Preconception vitamins and delays to cycle

Hi All,
I've just started taking Pregnacare pre conception vitamins and noticed my period has not yet appears (I'm not pregnant as we haven't started trying yet). I normally have a relatively short cycle (23 days) but always been pretty consistent, I'm now at 27 with no signs of it appearing.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I come off them if they're impacting my cycle? I'm an older mum (39, 40 in July) and worried this is something more sinister than an impact of the vitamins.

There have been a number of women claim it can delay your period. I'm not sure how tbh, it's essentially a multivitamin and most it comes out through your pee.

Sounds like coincidences to me. My period came a week early before I TTC. Now had I been trying the cycle before I would've arbitrarily attributed causative factor, when in reality who knows.

Anyway can't say these vitamins affected mine. It's inconvenient of course that your period is late, but it will come.

I used the same pre conception vitamins and they delayed my period by a week. Not sure how they made that happen but I have never been late with my period, once I stopped taking them my cycle went back to normal. ☺️

Thank you @AppleCrumble96 - how long did it take for your normal cycle to return? I’ve found a whole other thread on this with a lot of women in the same situation. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/conception/4886487-pregnacare-conception-terrified-ive-messed-up-cycle

Logically of course it doesn’t make sense @Outliers, but there are too many women experiencing this for it to be a coincidence. I took them before my pregnancy with my first and was fine … but clearly something has changed.

I know this must seem really dramatic but I'm genuinely really worried and looking for either reassurance or any useful stories! I'm 36 and it took o...

@Beccaden
Simultaneously there are several women who take it with no issue.

Women experience irregular cycles all the time. However when TTC, they have a heightened awareness that makes them seek the cause. There is a post almost daily on this forum like that.

It's comparable to period symptoms, most women don't notice them. But when TTC they notice signs they often mistake for early pregnancy.

I appreciate your point, but I'm not convinced that it's simply not a coincidence.

AppleCrumble96 · 01/12/2023 10:34

@Beccaden from what I remember I stopped taking them once my period was a week late, I think it took a few days then my period came. The following month my cycle was back to normal at every 28 days and it’s been the same since.

I appreciate what other people have posted about it possibly being a coincidence, I just found it strange that my period has only ever been a day late before, never as long as a week! I wasn’t even TTC at the time I was taking them before hand so wasn’t heavily focused on it. Either way I am put off using it now just cause I don’t want to mess it up when I have always been regular, other vitamins I have been fine with. ☺️

Hey, I have been thinking the same thing!
Took them before conceiving 1st child and did not impact cycle and happened quickly.
Started taking them again to try for no 2 and period has been late, I have tried and stopped taking them on 2 separate occasions and same thing happened!
I think I might stop them all together, I'm confused whether it's impacting ovulation dates.
Not very helpful but your not alone!
