Pregnacare Conception - terrified I've messed up cycle 😢

I know this must seem really dramatic but I'm genuinely really worried and looking for either reassurance or any useful stories!

I'm 36 and it took over 2 years to get my periods back after giving birth to my first child (still BF but almost fully weaned now). I'm on cycle 4 TTC no. 2 and switched from My Expert Midwife to Pregnacare Conception because I thought the ingredients looked better.

I've absolutely terrified myself now doing a bit of research on these supplements. There are so, so many stories of women with textbook cycles all their lives suddenly having them completely messed up by Pregnacare, ovulating later or not at all etc. I'm 99% sure I'll stop taking them tomorrow but in the meantime: what are other people's thoughts? It took me 3 years to get pregnant the first time around and I'm desperate for another baby. Reading these reviews has really scared me as obviously my cycles had only just started again. I'm due in a few days with a cycle between 26-28 days so I guess we'll see...

It's just an expensive multivitamin that's all. I wouldn't worry about it and save yourself money switching to a generic instead.

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean a generic preconception vitamin? It's really hard to know which ones to trust. I'd feel more able to relax about it all but with the years TTC first time around, my age and how long it took to finally get my cycle back, this has really thrown me. I know you can technically just take folic acid and vit d but can't help worrying these aren't enough. I guess it's a need to feel like I'm doing all I can!

I have always had regular 28 day cycles and I started using pregnacare when TTC. I used it for two months before stopping as my cycles became more like 35-37 days. I was also using the CB digital ovulation kit but never identified peak fertility. I switched to conceive plus fertility supplements and also took their ovulation support vitamins. Not sure what these would have done to my cycle but I ended up ovulating not long after my period and conceived that month.

Wow I did not know this! I've been taking it and been ovulating late giving me a short luteal phase but stopped talking them a few months ago and ovulated around day 13/14 the last two cycles before I got pregnant (currently 6 weeks)!

I switched to just taking 5mg folic acid and vitamin D plus coq10 but don't think I took it long enough for it to work (meant to make your eggs healthier as I've had multiple miscarriages)

I took pregnacare back in September, I realised halfway through my pack, my period hadn’t come on, got all excited for nothing, stopped taking them and 2 weeks late my period arrived, it’s really messed my cycles up, mine were 28 days, now I have no clue, currently waiting for my week late period and have no idea when to expect it, I’m fuming and so frustrated 😔.
does anyone have any advice on how long it should take to get your period back to normal?

Beccaden · 30/11/2023 13:37

Hi @LizzieeLou - I have literally just posted this as seems exactly the same has happened to me (I hadn’t seen this post before I put mine up). Has yours come back again now?

I wonder if this is whats been lengthening my cycles. I haven’t been taking pregnacare but a cocktail of other recommended multivitamins. I might pack it in and see if it makes a difference. I’ve been having 40+ cycles after usually always having 29-31 days.

LoreleiG · 30/11/2023 16:57

Weird, I never had a problem and took it for years as I just stayed on it for a multivitamin after having my babies.

LizzieeLou · 30/11/2023 20:30

Nope, my previous one was over 2 and a half weeks late and this one is over 3 weeks late and nothing so far, it’s very frustrating, someone said to me it took them 2 and a half months for her cycle to get back, so fingers crossed 🤞 x

Messed up my cycle too

Ketryne · 31/08/2024 14:48

I can't help on the multivitamin front, but if your cycles are a little off and you're not certain when you're ovulating, I really recommend basal body temperature measuring. I used Natural Cycles as I'd been using it as contraception/period tracking before trying to conceive anyway. Gave me a really accurate idea of when I was ovulating. Especially as I often seemed to miss the peak LH surge with ovulation tests.

Admittedly I've always fallen pregnant easily (staying pregnant has been my difficulty), but was so helpful to know what was going on. I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant with my second (hopefully) successful pregnancy and I ovulated 4 days later than usual this time. If I'd just been tracking dates we'd have 100% stopped 'trying' for the month and missed the boat.
