@Chellooo avoid it like the plague, from now on, get all your facts from mumsnet :D if you haven't yet, read the impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant. Some interesting stats on conceiving as an older woman. I took a lot of comfort from it.

@LotzW oh well, looks like youll be making new friends then :) yes it does make a difference: you shouldnt drink or wee for a couple of hours at least before taking your sample. I have a little routine: get my lunch, do my toileting, then put my dog in her crate. When she wakes up I take my sample then.
CD9 and CD10 are a bit early to start testing generally but if youre just starting then it makes sense. Hopefully ypou wont have to do them for too long

I’m in Cycle 19 of ttc #3. This is my second month having a short break from ttc as travelling abroad in October. AF is due 20th February and I’ll be back on it, and would be due 23rd November if we were to conceive in the next cycle

Fallulah · 06/02/2023 18:47

@natgee When I came off the pill (nearly 2 years ago 🙄) I used the Clearblue digital sticks to track ovulation and realised that I get EWCM at the same time I got the smiley face to show a peak. I’ve not used them for ages now as they’re so expensive.

I have had two day 21 blood tests - one had to be done on day 22 because the hospital doesn’t work Sundays and one I had done on day 19 and got my period about three days later so I obviously didn’t get that one at the right time either! I phoned to find out the results of these blood tests and was bluntly told ‘you don’t ovulate’ which I don’t think is true - I just didn’t get the test on the right day. Got a Drs appointment next week to talk about this. Had day 3 blood test and ultrasound about a year ago and they were normal.

Sounds like we need to give it another go tomorrow then!

NatGee · 06/02/2023 19:09

@Mummyme87 good luck and baby dust !

@Fallulah ugh isnt that just annoying, I wish GPs would stop calling it a day 21 test. Your bloods need to be done when your progesterone is at its peak which is usually mid way through your luteal phase. It won't be on day 21 for every woman. When I went for mine I was armed with that information. When I told the GP she just said "ah, yes". Would have wasted my time. Might be worth giving it another go? If you elect for a fertility referral, they will base themselves on your current results. Glad to know all your other tests were normal, its a relief right? Will this be your first? MaY I ask your age?

@NatGee I was always concerned my age would be the thing standing against us but when we went to the GP she told us about some things in partner's medical history that she says will most likely be our biggest hurdle. He was very premature at birth and that led to complications in early childhood and while we is fit and well as an adult the chances of those early complications affecting his fertility are really high (in her words if he has viable sperm it would be highly unexpected). He knew he was very premature but not about the other stuff. She was very kind but matter of fact in her delivery and that was appreciated and while we're both hoping for the best we both just want answers so that we can start to work with what we've got!

NatGee · 06/02/2023 19:25

@NervousNoo of course, sounds like your gp is a very compassionate person which you dont always get. When is the SA this month? Are you doing it privately? We paid £150 for one and got the results the next day. if via the NHS make sure you get the full report so you can look at the numbers yourself. Wish you lots of luck, our bodies are very individual, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Hi all, can I join?
Month 2 of TTC #3, first not planned and second took 10 months of trying, I told myself I wouldn't get fixated on TTC again this time but failing already! CD 11 today.
Hoping this is a lucky month for us all 🤞

NervousNoo · 06/02/2023 19:33

@NatGee NHS for now, we may go privately in the future but that will depend on what info we do or don't get this time round. Thanks for the tip, will definitely ask!

Popsicales · 06/02/2023 19:43

Hi everyone. Hope it’s ok for me to join?

TTC number 3. First two are 4 and 5 and were conceived within 2 cycles but I was a lot thinner 🙈

I had my coil out on 28th Jan and happened to ovulate that day (confirmed with OPKs). However, I’ve been withdrawal bleeding ever since so don’t think there’s much chance of anything sticking!

hoping I get a normal period soon but doing OPKs everyday in the mean time!

Maxime34 · 06/02/2023 20:36

@NatGee its so hard for it not to turn into a routine after a while isn't it. 5 times sounds like more than enough if you're hitting the right timing so I wouldn't worry about that. I'm CD8 so slowly approaching my fertile window so I'll be breaking out the LH tests soon, woopie!

Mummymidwife33 · 06/02/2023 20:48

Hi all! Im 38, DH is 41 and we're ttc #3 for us both but #1 together. I have DD14 and DS10 so this will be a big change!

I'm currently CD15 1DPO on our 1st cycle. DH had his vasectomy reversed just coming up 4 weeks ago so I'm not too hopeful that there is even any sperm about but we can only try! The dr doing the surgery saw sperm on the analyser on both sides and said we have a good chance.

I track using OPKs and I think I'm quite familiar with my cycle. Last time I did BBT and cervical position etc and conceived 1st try but I'm not starting with that just yet. We DTD fri/sat/sun and will see if we have the energy tonight!

In my head I've told myself this is likely to take at least 6 months so hopefully I won't be too disappointed when it doesn't happen first try (I'm very obviously lying to myself but we do what we have to to get through lol!)

Im quite worried about being 11 years older than when I last tried and keep googling early menopause! I am almost 10 stone lighter than last time though am hoping that works in my favour.

Vitamins wise I'm taking high dose folic acid and vitamin d (prescribed) and pregnacare.

I had similar from my GP surgeries, I just went up and asked for a printed copy. Game me much more detail than the receptionists did. Good luck!

Fallulah · 06/02/2023 21:48

@NatGee I’m 42 now. I’ve read the guidance for my area and I am too old, too overweight (although the more I read the less I think this makes as much difference as they tell you it does) and my partner already has a grown up daughter so we have no hope of any fertility help as far as I can work out.

I feel quite angry about it all as I had one ovary removed when I was in my teens (large cyst) and then had surgery on the other ovary in my 30s (same type of cyst). At that time I asked if I could freeze some eggs in case the ovary was lost/damaged but was told it wasn’t worth it. I explained this to the practice nurse in April 2021 when I’d been off the pill a year and she organised the day 3 test and ultrasound and told me to come back in September if I wasn’t pregnant. When I went back in Sept the GP said the nurse had ordered the wrong tests and sent me for the day 21. There just seem to be so many delays and waits and time isn’t on my side. Clearly the ovary is working but it’s just another barrier.

NatGee · 06/02/2023 22:55

@Fallulah i am sorry to hear, that youve been sent round the houses a little. Any chance you can go private? You might be listened to a bit more and actually given what you ask. @Betsy21 good shout i do the same
@NamelessNinja hello! Difficult not to zero in on the goal right? Hopefully cycle #2 will be your lucky one baby dust to you

@NatGee I’m on cycle 25 (ish, lost count now) of ttc but been using opk for about the last 12 cycles now. However, I have been using the cheapies and only used the clear blue advanced with smilies for first time last cycle. So, I’m not sure how accurate the cheapies have been with me and if I usually have such a short luteal phase.

How are you finding the wait to your fertile window? I’m CD 8 and just want to get on with it!

AL1424 · 07/02/2023 06:51

Hi all hope okay to join this thread? I’m 31, TTC 1, cycle #1 - haven’t really been “not trying” since coming off the pill in March last year, however have just been diagnosed with cystic ovaries (not the syndrome just to make me even more confused!). Using CB OPK’s this cycle and tracking it a lot more closely - fingers crossed this is the month.

How is everyone getting on? I am becoming totally obsessed with anything and everything TTC!!! x

Mummyme87 · 07/02/2023 06:56

@Fallulah my GP said she can refer to NHS fertility clinic, she said they may be able to help a bit, I’m 36, overweight and have two kids already, but the waits are long and I think they will tel me to lose weight before anything else. So we are going to be on private. I’ve had a scan done already and some bloods, so will collate all those results, hoping GP surgery will print them out and take them to private clinic so maybe won’t need everything repeated

Superstorefan123 · 07/02/2023 07:13

@AL1424 cystic ovaries for me too! Such a confusing diagnosis as half of the doctors I’ve seen have said it’s not a problem (as not full PCOS!!) and the other half say it is!

Best of luck with proper TTC!

AL1424 · 07/02/2023 07:20

@Superstorefan123 thank you! Also love your username (assuming it’s the show superstore and not just a shop haha) 😂 it’s so confusing isn’t it!! I had a awful doctor who was so unhelpful and sent me for the wrong tests and I had to switch eventually. I’ve got two more hormone blood tests to take prior to and on my next period but I’m hoping that doesn’t arrive 🤣

have you taken any vitamins etc? I’ve just bought b6 as it’s good for regulating hormonal activity apparently x

Superstorefan123 · 07/02/2023 08:46

@AL1424 definitely the show! It got me through many boring hours of lockdown!

Ive been taking pregnacare preconception, omega 3 fish oil and optibac. Pregnacare has done wonders for regulating my cycle - I was having cycles between 25-45 days but now they are between 29-31 so super regular. Optibac was recommended by my consultant as apparently it makes a nice environment for sperm

AL1424 · 07/02/2023 09:06

@Superstorefan123 its so good - that and schitts creek!

Oh amazing, my cycle has been all over the place - one cycle was 55 days! But the last few have been 39,40 and 34 so hoping it’s beginning to regulate 🤞🏼 I’m currently taking folic acid, vit D, vit b12 & b6 - I’ll take a look at pregnacare next as that sounds promising!! I got my static smiley this morning on CB so pleased / relieved I am actually ovulating as I was worrying! X

LotzW · 08/02/2023 07:11

Morning.
How is everyone?
I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating - ewcm and just feels like I am, but test this morning shows 0.08 which suggests not. I'm trying to convince myself that those tests are pants 🤣

Mummyme87 · 08/02/2023 07:20

@LotzW i get Ewcm for about 5 days prior to ovulation. But also the LH tests detect the surge leading up to ovulation, could be negative by the time you actually ovulate

I’m counting down the days to AF so I can start the next cycle!

Superstorefan123 · 08/02/2023 08:05

@LotzW in the past I’ve had up to 11 days of EWCM - might just be the start and tests will follow in a few days (I’ve also convinced myself many months I ‘feel’ like I’m ovulating but always end up being wrong 😂)
