Is this ovulation test positive? (Pic)

Hi ladies,

this is my first month ttc. I got some cheap ovulation tests, and was wondering if it’s positive? I took it because I noticed today I had ewcm and I’m usually quite dry otherwise. Also high libido etc.

i have used ovulation tests before but that was to avoid fertile days, so usually the test line for me is quite faint. But not sure if this is strong enough to count as ovulation?

Unfortunately my period came :(

Hopefully next month will bring you your BFP, I’ll have my fingers crossed for both of us 🤞
were you on anything before your first month trying? The pill really messed me up but still trying to remain positive (easier said than done)

Peachyplumm · 05/01/2023 23:16

@DBBW thanks :( I’m so gutted. No I was just using condoms, but I do get irregular periods so I tend to track my BBT to see what’s going on. I was so hopeful when I actually caught ovulation. It’s so confusing when you do everything right but it still doesn’t happen.. how? I actually was pregnant early March 2022 and wasn’t even trying. So it’s a bit more upsetting that I actually tried this time and nothing happened :/

Completely understand where you are coming from, every month my period arrives and it’s just disappointing.
This is the first month I managed to get a positive ovulation test and previously just assumed I kept missing it.
The body is a weird thing, especially when you weren’t trying before although it’s your first month so I’m sure it will happen for you! Irregular periods also don’t help the situation (I’m having the same issue).
I read somewhere that there’s between a 15% and 25% chance of conceiving each month which makes me think the odds are against me as I wouldn’t say that’s very high. Trying to conceive for the time first but also not really telling people so it’s nice to be able to come on here and just chat/rant when needed!
Hopefully next month at least one of us will have better news :)
thanks for letting me hop on your thread x

Peachyplumm · 06/01/2023 00:47

@DBBW thanks for the reassurance, it really does help to talk to others about it! I’ve been trying to avoid talking to friends and family too bc I just want to tell them when I’m positive. My partner is supportive but it’s not the same as talking to someone else going through it! My fingers are staying crossed for you! Feel free to keep updating here, it’s good to see your journey x

@Peachyplumm been a little while so I thought I’d update you. AF arrived as I thought it would :( but my doctor has agreed to send me for blood tests to check if I’m ovulating and also my OH for a seman analysis. Quite pleased as I didn’t think doctors did any testing until your trying for a year and it’s been 6/7 months for myself. How is everything with you? :)

Peachyplumm · 21/01/2023 13:32

@DBBW hi thanks for the update! I thought I was ovulating because I’ve had strong opk’s the last 3-4 days but I’m starting to think it’s my pcos. I have a very mild version of it, to the point my doctor was ambivalent with diagnosing me, because all I have are irregular periods and some cysts (which are right on the cusp of how they would diagnose it).. but I guess it must be that. Apparently pcos can show higher LH throughout. Kind of gutted because I’m not sure when I will ovulate :/

im glad to hear that you and your partner are getting checked out without having to wait! Hopefully you get some (positive) answers. Are you in the U.K.? I wonder if my doctor can check for ovulation too

OP posts:
DBBW · 21/01/2023 14:36

@Peachyplumm i also had some positive ones when I clearly can’t have been ovulating so made me questions the tests I thought were positive before…
I would recommend going to your doctor, I am based in U.K. and first time seeing this doctor and was really impressed as I thought they’d just palm me off. I’m having blood tests day 6 of my cycle and day 22 so fingers crossed for positive results.
perhaps you could go to your doctors for similar tests?

Peachyplumm · 24/01/2023 22:57

@DBBW That sounds good, what cycle day are you on? Are the blood tests soon?
I’ve been taking internet cheapie opk’s and been getting random results. They got quite dark last week and then suddenly were very faint. I figured that was a failed ovulation.

Then today I got a darker internet cheapie again but this time with some slight cramps and sore nipples, so I very randomly took a test with my clear blue digital ovulation one and I got a flashing smiley face! this is the first flashing smiley I’ve had with it, I actually thought it was broken as I only had the blank circle response before which means no ovulation what so ever.
im gonna keep testing with digital every day till I hopefully get my peak static smiley. Some girls have said it’s taken 10 days or so to get there. Will update as I go. Have you used the digital one before?

Cycle day 10 for me now, what about you? Had my first blood test yesterday and the next one is on cycle day 22.
maybe that’s where we have been going wrong as I’ve heard the cheap ones aren’t as good so I did purchase clear blue but I’m yet to use as I’m not sure when to start using it from, any ideas? My periods range from 27 days to 38!
ooo exciting! I’ve also read that so keep testing and I’m sure you’ll get the static smiley face soon. I’m just worried I’ll do them and it will constantly be blank for me xx

Peachyplumm · 25/01/2023 14:54

@DBBW oooh that’s good, not long now before you get results. You should bd this month anyway as you might ovulate soon! I heard every other day is good but it’s a bit hard with my partner as I think he’s getting stage fright worrying he won’t be able to step up on ovulation day 😂

you should defo start testing with digital now cos the first reading is always blank, it uses that first one to get a baseline for your levels. So you’ll only get a true reading second time and onwards :)

I get what you mean there, it’s a lot of pressure and I don’t want to make it a massive deal so that it becomes stressful if that makes sense.
oh I didn’t realise that! I’ll have to start testing although I guess there is a chance I may have already ovulated as I have irregular cycles. Perhaps I should start fresh next month from day 8 of my cycle to cover myself and continue using the cheap ones from eBay for this month!
Not entirely sure when I get results from the doctors or if they’ll wait until I’ve had my second blood test but I’ll keep you updated :) x

DBBW · 26/01/2023 22:40

@Peachyplumm sorry I forgot to mention you in my reply! X

Peachyplumm · 28/01/2023 15:35

@DBBW I’ve been getting flashing smileys on my digital ovulation for about 4 days now, so I started to think it’s just broken or like maybe my body is just not gonna ovulate. But this morning I got the static smiley (which means peak ovulation!), I confirmed it with an internet cheapie where the test line looks just as strong. Last month I only used the internet cheapie so it’s nice to have proper confirmation with the digital this time, as it calculates two hormones not just LH.

me and my partner bd last night too without really knowing, so it’s good timing! We’ll see 2 weeks from now then I guess 😂

one thing I noticed is I have absolutely 0 signs that I’m ovulating. No ewcm, no cramps, nothing. Just shows why I’ve prob missed it in the past!

Now I’ve seen your tests I’m going to use it from next month day 8 of my cycle onwards as think I’ve left it too late now!
with the clear blue test do you do it with your first urine of the day?
Im glad you finally got your smiley face and hopefully next month I’ll have the same luck!
do you know if your meant to BD the day you get a positive and a few days after? That part on the internet always confuses me!
I always try not to make so much pressure of it because if I say daily during ovulation it’s like I’m just using him for it if that makes sense 🤦‍♀️
Oh really? I try and go by ewcm so I could also be missing it I guess too! What day have you ovulated on? Xx

Peachyplumm · 29/01/2023 23:14

@DBBW ideally you would BD a day before the static smiley, and then on the day if you can. Sperm can take a bit to go up there, so that’s why doing it a day before gives better chance of them waiting for the egg and not missing it. :) if you do it a few days before it can also be ok since sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days
:)

and yep I did it with my FMU xx

Twoinapod · 30/01/2023 06:23

@DBBW With ovulation tests you’re not supposed to use FMU, they work better if done between 10am and 8pm with at least a 3 hour hold. IT’s pregnancy tests that are recommended to use FMU. Also use them at the same time every day for accuracy.

Actually the clearblue you are supposed to use FMU. And I used it for normal ones too and I got my peak and fell pregnant so that is bs

Emmamoo89 · 30/01/2023 09:54

:)*

Twoinapod · 30/01/2023 11:34

@Emmamoo89 not sure why it would be bs? 2 minutes on Google will tell you they advise not to use FMU. It’s actually better to test in the afternoon. I’m glad you got pregnant but it’s not bs to give people the correct advice to help them.

DBBW · 30/01/2023 18:23

@Emmamoo89 @Twoinapod hey both,
thanks for your advice!
i took a quick look at the instructions for the clear blue ovulation test and for this one it states FMU but my internet cheapies from eBay state the afternoon holding for four hours so perhaps the clear blue one is in the morning because it tests two different levels (can’t remember what!)?
maybe I should do both tests each day to try cover myself :) x

DBBW · 30/01/2023 20:47

@Peachyplumm decided to use my clear blue ovulation test as I’m usually quite late ovulating from just paying attention to my body. Yesterday and this morning, it was just an empty image but this evening I got my first flashing smiley face so I’m guessing I need to get at it soon and hopefully the static will come but partner works away! Maybe I’ll be able to tomorrow, fingers crossed 🤞 😅x

Peachyplumm · 30/01/2023 21:12

@DBBW omgggg yesss! You’re in your fertile window, gotta get bd’ing! Haha. And yeah that sounds right, the first reading will have just been getting a baseline. So exciting! I’m almost 3dpo, not many symptoms aside from some cramping but obviously still very early X
