@theblueflowers fantastic news!! Really happy for you 💕💕

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 17:04

@theblueflowers That's amazing congratulations! I'm so pleased for you :)

My baby is still there with a heartbeat but I'm not happy with the measurements and feel like I'm looking at a slow failure here. I'll have to book yet another private scan next week if I can to test my theory.

I hate the way sonographers lie to you, like, I'm here because I'm worried, telling me it all looks great when I can clearly see that it's too small is really not helpful. I just want the truth.

At the private scan I was 6+2 but they measured me at 6+0 (though I don't see how they worked that out at CRL was 3.6).

This time I'm 7+1 so five days later and she put me at 6+4 with a CRL of 7.1 which isn't even on the little scale in terms of length. It's down as <1%.

So, yes, it will likely all be over soon. No idea why she didn't just say that to me. Imagine if I had no idea about what all of these numbers mean and I went off reassured only to lose the baby in a week or two. Just crazy.

Indianna2006 · 13/12/2022 17:21

@TheBirdintheCave sorry it didn’t give you much reassurance.

altho I would say you can think you are a certain way along and obv they all implant diff points. So a few days different to measurements from what you think is normal.

so you went for the other scan 5 days ago?? CRL from 3.6 to 7.1mm seems quite a big of growth to me and they dated you 4 days further along which adds up to about the 5 days since you went.
It’s never an exact science as they’re very small at that stage. And machines are different. And each sonographer might get a slightly different measurement as well.

I wouldn’t say it is all over as yet.

Is it you’re worried about thinking you’re 7+1 and only measuring 6+4? Because I have always been told 5 days behind or ahead is normal an nothing to worry about. As sometimes later babies do catch up. Over 5 days is perhaps something to be concerned of.

or is it more the CRL measurements?

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 17:32

@Indianna2006 A bit of everything really. It just doesn't seem like good news to be so far behind from my dates when I know I pinpointed O to within a day or two :/

I was hoping I'd be able to think about Christmas a bit more now but it's just made everything worse :( I've told my parents to go to my brothers instead as I will be zero fun.

bunnykins123 · 13/12/2022 17:36

@TheBirdintheCave I'm sorry you haven't had the reassurance you were looking for. Just so I understand, the babe is only measuring 2 days ahead of the last scan which was 5 days ago?

Indianna2006 · 13/12/2022 17:40

@TheBirdintheCave yeh I totally understand. The CRL measurement for 6 weeks does seem a bit off at 3.6mm. As I was 5.74mm at 6 weeks and 1 day. But it has double in size in 5 days regardless which I think perhaps is a god sign. I mean my measurement from 6 weeks 1 days stayed at that as that was my failed pregnancy.

I know the not being exact to your dates is worrying. But I don’t think anyone is ever exact to there dates when the scan measurements are taken.
I think they say give the 5 day discrepancy either way

  1. for fact that people can’t always pinpoint ovulation. They know ish perhaps. Within a day or so. But one day makes a diff.
  2. Sonographer will measure diff. Usually they take 3 measurements and take the middle one.
  3. People where they implant can be totally diff. Some embryos implant 6dpo. And some 11 dpo. Now that’s 5 days diff. So another lady could have ovulated on exact same day as you. As measure 5 days ahead or behind due to that exact reason. It can only start to grow once it implants.

I know you prob know all this and won’t stop you worrying. It’s normal and natural to find worst case scenario. But also helps for someone to point out reasons why they say 5 days either side can be normal.

you hoped to be 7+1. And are measuring 6 +4. Which is 4 days difference. So within that normal threshold. It has almost doubled in size since you last went. It still has a heart beat. Try take the positives.

I know it’s hard though. I don’t think it means it’s all over yet. And I would be honest as well if I thought it did. We can look WAY WAY into it too much.

I went an my dates were 2 weeks out so I KNEW that cannot ever be right. But yours could still be totally normal. Understand if you do wanna get another scan. But try wait at least another week I think. You can drive yourself mad sometimes 😞😞

Indianna2006 · 13/12/2022 17:41

@bunnykins123 I read it as it’s measuring 4 days ahead and scan was 5 days ago but perhaps I can’t read 🙈🙈

MrsCristianoX · 13/12/2022 18:16

@TheBirdintheCave I know shockingly little about this and have delved into Google. But I'd agree with @Indianna2006 if baby has doubled in size that's a positive sign..I have everything crossed for you lovely and I'm sorry you are feeling so stressed 😥 xx

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 18:16

@bunnykins123 Measuring four days bigger than the scan I had five days ago BUT I don't know how accurate the measurements of the first scan were as she only took the one. The NHS lady did three or four and took the average I guess.

Not sure if that makes things better or worse. Probably worse :(

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 18:24

@MrsCristianoX It's just the worst feeling :(

I don't know whether to have another scan next week to confirm my worries and when I see that it has barely grown at all at least I'll be prepared for what's to come over Christmas :(

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 18:56

And even worse still I just realised that the first scan was six days ago 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ At this point I just wish someone could tell me which day I'm going to miscarry.

bunnykins123 · 13/12/2022 19:16

@TheBirdintheCave ok I think I understand now. I think take the positives that there is a heart beat and growth! Like @Indianna2006 says, dates / measurements can be off so I wouldn't worry too much. You may have actually ovulated later than you thought!

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 19:54

@bunnykins123 I doubt it based on when I got my first positive.

bunnykins123 · 13/12/2022 20:33

@TheBirdintheCave What DPO did you get a positive vs the day you ovulated? I think the earliest I've seen someone get a positive online is about 8dpo with most being around 10/11dpo. I know it's stressful, I really do but my DD measured 11+2 at her 12+1 scan. To this day I still don't know how it happened 🤷‍♀️ she's fit, healthy and full of beans!

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 20:43

Ovulated on CD21 and got a positive on CD31 (10dpo)

bunnykins123 · 13/12/2022 21:06

@TheBirdintheCave I had a quick look online and 7mm doesn't look far off for your dates at all? Did the sonographer say anything or was it something that you already knew about (I feel like anyone who has had a miscarriage before knows so much more than the experts expect us to know!) I would have thought at a private scan, they would have said if they had any concerns?

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 21:17

@bunnykins123 This one was at the EPU (they brought forward my eight week scan to this week when I told them I'd had more bleeding over the weekend. I really wish they hadn't now :( )

The sonographer said everything looked good and she didn't have any concerns. This is all me comparing the two scans and freaking out about the dates.

bunnykins123 · 13/12/2022 21:26

@TheBirdintheCave oh I seeee! I think sometimes you have to trust the people who do this day in, day out even though you are educated from google etc. If the sonographer said they had no concerns then I would try and trust that. Your probably super aware at the moment due to the spotting so anything outside of perfect will seem like a problem. Looking online myself, it seems like the mm range varies so much at your stage in pregnancy so I would probably take it all with a pinch of salt for now. 7mm is absolutely teeny tiny - think about it, that's like the size of your finger nail and a probe is having to find that teeny tiny bean from the outside. There is no wonder there is so much variation! I know it's easier said than done but try and take a deep breath and focus on the positives: baby, heartbeat, no more spotting. Those are all things you should try and focus on 💕

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 21:35

@bunnykins123 You're right, I know, it's just so hard to calm down. I'm a little more settled at the moment.

I'm sorry I panic so much :(

calimc83 · 13/12/2022 22:22

@TheBirdintheCave hey lovely, I'm so sorry you didn't get the reassurance you wanted today. I think definitely take on board what @bunnykins123 is saying, she makes a lot of sense. I remember hearing that private scans are not as accurate as NHS ones. I guess you don't know how experienced the sonographer is or how old their machines are either. Baby is so tiny at this stage...so much room for discrepancies in size. I would try and just focus on what your sonographer said today. You've got growth and a heartbeat which is great news 🥰 pregnancy after loss is soooo tough, I completely understand. Did they say if they would rescan you next week at all? @theblueflowers so glad u got positive news today! 😘 xx

TheBirdintheCave · 13/12/2022 23:18

@calimc83 No suggestion of a rescan, she just gave me a printed paper and told me to give it to the midwife at my booking in appointment and that they'd arrange a scan in six weeks time. We'll see if I make it to that appointment.

One of my biggest concerns is the Cyclogest. I run out in eight days and have no idea how to get more. I forgot to ask whilst I was there as I was so depressed 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

FfayeN · 14/12/2022 04:08

Just checking in super quick.

@mummatara I'm so sorry they didn't do anything you couldn't have done yourself but your tests are absolutely lighter than a few days previous. I hope AF is on her way soon.

@TheBirdintheCave it does all sound positive, growth, no bleeding and some good scans. Try and have a little hope along the way, it's hard, so hard, but you will need that tiny bit of positivity to get you through if all goes well next week.

@theblueflowers you have no idea how relived I am to hear all is going well. It's such wonderful news 🥰🥰🥰

I have tried to pinpoint ovulation, however with OPKs few and far between and a hotel
room that's way more warm than at home I have no idea where I am in that sense. This means I will have to have my biopsy in January. So be it 🤷🏼‍♀️ xxx

bunnykins123 · 14/12/2022 19:20

@TheBirdintheCave how are you feeling today? 💕

@FfayeN enjoy your trip away! We actually conceived DD whilst in the states. My chart was all over place and I thought there was no possible way I could be pregnant!

MrsCristianoX · 14/12/2022 20:14

@bunnykins123 oh you beat me to it was gonna check in with @TheBirdintheCave hope you're ok lovely xx
