Anyone had any success? What was it like and how long did it take you?

Currently 46 and 8 weeks tomorrow. My last baby was born when I was 44 and I assumed he was my miracle pre menopause baby so we didn't use any birth control after having him and were very surprised when I discovered I was pregnant a few weeks ago. So basically took us 2 years to conceive although weren't trying. I'm still very cautious as I know the miscarriage rates are very high at this age but still I know it happens to some people so there's always hope.

Congratulations @Daisypod

That's an inspiring story! I hope it all turns out well

It certainly happens.

My grandmother had her last child at 44.
One of my aunts had a baby at 46, another at 47. No intervention, naturally conceived.

One of my friends is about to have her fourth child at 45. Again, conceived naturally, no issues.

urgen · 28/09/2022 21:20

Have you had a child before?

wibblyhedgehog · 29/09/2022 10:28

I'm not there yet, but I have a friend who accidentally conceived when she was 48.

Her two teenage daughters were soooooo embarrassed 😂

SwordToFlamethrower · 29/09/2022 19:50

I'm 45 years old and 36 weeks pregnant with an IVF conceived child.

I used a clinic in Istanbul and needed 6 rounds.

Gruelling, but worth it!

cptartapp · 29/09/2022 19:50

My friend had her second set of twins at 47. Her first set were 17!

Zelda93 · 29/09/2022 20:00

wibblyhedgehog · 30/09/2022 17:44

Wow were those natural conceptions?

Hey, just wanted to say thank you to you posters, these stories of older births are giving me hope.

I've got a DS who's 5, via IVF - our little miracle, sadly after 4 pregnancies ended in miscarriage.

But now, at 44, I'm really considering trying again. We've got a frozen embryo left to use, and with my history I know my chances are still slim, but something in me just needs to try.

But I've been really worried about 'my age'. Not just from the increased risk pov, but from the judgey comments/looks I might get giving birth at 45. (And then I've spiralled into the maths of it all, that awful rabbit hole!)

So honestly, thank you for sharing about other older mums and your own journeys on here, because it makes me feel I'm not alone x

@Mamadino that frozen embryo will be the age you did the fresh round

  1. Had been trying for 2 years. Told my husband our journey was over and it was too late. Had a little cry. Was pregnant the following month.

All the woman in my family bat
My mother had children in their forties so I knew genetics was on my side but it was a high risk pregnancy due to my age.

Mamadino · 01/10/2022 07:42

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun I'm hoping that the little frostie is a good one🙏As you say, that part of the hard work is at least done, but with my history of MMC it'd definitely be fingers & toes crossed for the rest x

And @wibblyhedgehog are you actively TTC? Reading your history it isn't dissimilar to mine, so do you have eggs/embryos to use, or will you TTC naturally? x

Mamadino · 01/10/2022 07:45

@pktechgirl are they looking after you a little more? X

wibblyhedgehog · 01/10/2022 07:47

@Mamadino

I have never had IVF so no other options for me unfortunately.

@wibblyhedgehog there are so many positive cases on here of natural TTC success, I've got everything crossed for you xxx

(sorry, I had misread another post as being yours, blame my early morning brain 🙄)

Kernowrose · 16/11/2022 18:45

I've just found out I'm pregnant and I'll be 45 in January. We had DD in 2019 (after 3 years of TTC) and have been trying for another ever since. We didn't have any medical intervention, we just tried to be as healthy as possible. I'm not sure if it's coincidental, but I started a Vegan diet and NMN supplements 3 months ago.

Phrenologistsfinger · 16/11/2022 18:51

My maternal grandma had her third child at 46, but I can’t carry a successful pregnancy at 37-40. Everyone’s different!

thejadefish · 16/11/2022 19:43

I fell pregnant naturally at 44, delivered at 45. We tried for about 3 years but DH often tired from working long hours meant we didn't try every month necessarily. Pregnancy was straightforward/no problems at all. I had been taking supplements but stopped taking them/gave up hope about 4 months before falling pregnant so I think it was just luck rather than anything I did unfortunately, good luck to all those trying!

Oh, I was worried about my age but my midwife didn't bat an eyelid when I raised the issue with her, she said it's normal now and her ladies were mostly over 35, and one was 50 expecting her first!

Bluelightbaby · 16/11/2022 19:48

In my job I go to births and pregnancy related jobs. I go to a wide range of ages but definitely a lot of older mums - I recently chatted to a midwife saying I was trying (I’m 42) and she didn’t think anything of it and said a huge proportion of mums in this area are well over 35

Bluelightbaby · 16/11/2022 19:49

To add that my grandmother in early 1900s had her last baby aged 48 and my own grandmother had my mum at 42 !

Mamadino · 28/12/2022 11:41

Thanks for all your stories & thoughts on it all. It's good to hear other viewpoints, and also tales of similar pregnancy ages. It makes me feel less 'alone' in my head with all my hundreds of thoughts, and also like I'd be far from alone as an older mama too x
Hope you've all had good Christmases :)
