Absolutely no way I'm pregnant, but...

DH had the snip about 9 years ago.

I am 36.

Very regular periods.

I am 10 days late.

5 days ago I thought I was starting because I had brown discharge. That carried on a couple of days and has now stopped.

I've had soft cramps for about a week but nothing starts.

I know it's completely ridiculous of me to think pregnancy but it's very much like my pregnancies!

I also usually have sore boobs before my period but not got that.

I feel ridiculous spending money on a test when my husband is sterile of 9 yrs.

I had exactly the same this month, the only pregnancy symptom I was missing was the sore boobs. I even had nausea.

thankfully aunt flow eventually turned up 10 days late Hmm

I do see a very faint line on that test - I would absolutely insist your DH/P goes to the GP for a sperm test before you have sex again. Just in case it was positive and a very early MC.

Ihatemyjob22 · 30/06/2022 12:08

I'm currently in the same boat. I'll take a test later because I'm guaranteed to come on straight after. This happens about 3 times a year to me and I keep some pound shop tests for this exact reason.

I agree - that test has a line, you were late for your period and it sounds like it may have been heavier than usual?

Its very possible this was an early miscarriage.

@WhenISnappedAndFarted Did your poor mum have to have a DNA test done on her son to prove she hadnt cheated??

Yes but she had cheated in the past so I don't blame him

safclass · 30/06/2022 13:22

Do a test just to make sure. Set your mind at rest.
Did your husband have several follow up tests to ensure vasectomy was successful?
I watched a DNA test show where the man had not followed up a yr later, but he was father of the child. Their whole situation it was about 1% chance of being his , but it was !

Fuckitydoodah · 30/06/2022 13:37

Happy for you that no difficult decision to be made. Have you had covid lately? That seems to be mucking up women's menstrual cycles.

EverydayIsPJday · 30/06/2022 13:40

Pleased you got the result you wanted op. I would echo others and get a test done by DH so you know it wasn't a chemical though. Best of luck

LividLaVidaLoca · 30/06/2022 16:10

He really needs a sperm test. That was a line, and if it’s happened once it could happen again.

Also, without harping on (because I know you’d rather believe it was all done with) it’s possible to still be pregnant after a bleed, or to have an incomplete early mc.

I’d do another FRER in a day or two to check the line has gone fully.

KneeQuestion · 30/06/2022 16:46

Your husband should get a sperm test.

Good news OP! Amazed so many people were so certain that was a positive 😵‍💫

It's just as possible the 'period with a vengeance' and cramping equates to a miscarriage as many of us have experienced. You can still have a positive pregnant test after a miscarriage.

Maireas · 30/06/2022 17:31

@1000Pieces - your points are very valid, and I do worry about some women who are obviously struggling and clinging to hope. I keep seeing these posts asking for "line eyes". I think there is a temptation nowadays to test very early, and it must contribute to disappointment.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 30/06/2022 17:32

I agree with the others that say your DH needs to do another sperm test. It is perfectly possible that you were pregnant and the line was faint because you were due to miscarry. This is compounded by the fact you say your period arrived with a vengeance.

best be safe than sorry.

I think in general on these boards there is huge misunderstanding around pregnancy tests. They're not designed so that if you wait an hour, take them to pieces, take a photograph of it, invert the colours, boost the contrast, and look with one eye shut, you can sort of see a line there.

They are designed to be straightforward tests that detect the presence of the pregnancy hormone at a level that would be expected in a woman who's due on her period, and indicate it in an obvious, clear, visual way.

Every positive pregnancy test I've ever had has been instant and unmistakable, except for one I took 3 days before my period (and the one I took 24 hours ater that WAS instant and unmistakable).

There is going to be some sort of line there in some way, because that's the part of the test that includes whatever it is that detects the hormone and dyes it pink/blue if the hormone is present.

There are all these women going around convinced they've had "chemical pregnancies" or "early miscarriages" when all they've had is a late/missed period and an evaporation line.

It's cruel to keep telling people this if they want to be pregnant (and also if they don't!)

Hear hear

curliegirlie · 01/07/2022 22:06

BUT in many of these cases, the very reason they can see those lines is that it IS a chemical pregnancy that ends up not progressing and is a by-product of the ability to test so early. The first pic is a 10 or 11dpo test that I took whilst TTC my second, the second and third were a surprise second line from this March. In both cases I got my period a few days after those tests. No doubting those lines though.

Wouldloveanother · 01/07/2022 23:00

I heard that @curliegirlie - that strong ‘evaps’ are positive tests which just dissolve into a chemical pregnancy. How are you getting along this month?

curliegirlie · 02/07/2022 09:46

Well exactly. I think with pink dye tests in particular there are very very very rarely evaps. If you stare at a test long enough you may be able to just about spot the indent for where the line should be (but that wouldn't be caught on camera). So if you spot a pink line that is followed by a negative test or period, chances are you were briefly pregnant.

Blue tests though appear to be a law unto themselves and tend to often get evaps as the tests dry.

Testing early is great, but you just need to accept that if you do that you're more likely to hit upon the early pregnancies that don't progress. That doesn't mean the tests were wrong though.

Yeah, I'm ok. It's now been 4 cycles since the MC (I'm now properly on the TTC bandwagon again) and I still feel slight bitter about after 2 long TTC journeys (16 month and 12 months) I then somehow managed to get pregnant after being a bit lax taking the pill for a few weeks, but now that didn't work out, no idea whether it will again (we're giving ourselves until the end of the year, so there's a fair chance it won't happen in that time).

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/07/2022 01:12

FRERs are honestly shit now and have been for at least a year. You can see the line before you dip them and negatives now look like faint positives. I really don't trust them. They used to be very reliable but are now pretty useless.
