@BritInNZ yeah I hear you and I often think intuition is right on these things….although not when you’re deciding late night that your cervix is so small something microscopic can’t make it through! Although I totally get the crazy diagnoses I think I had 100+ conditions in the 18 months we waited for a diagnosis. Although that wasn’t one I got to so I’m impressed 😂 x

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 13:59

Hi ladies, firstly, sorry I've been so silent. I was in a very bad place the last couple of weeks as we are nearing the 18 month TTC mark with still no hint of a BFP and also frustrated I'm not getting much help from the NHS.

The postman's just been and I now have a letter from the clinic! A whole pack of forms to fill which looks so daunting, but we finally have an appointment for 9th of June!

@Carla2601 I have you to thank for the suggestion of contacting PALS and also ringing up the clinic multiple times last week. Hope you are doing well and less worried now xx

@FlyOnTheWall89 sorry you won't be able to start this cycle, but it's probably all for the best. We may have similar timelines, it all depends on how long it would take for the funding to come through. Have you been told about prescription charges? As I have been advised to apply for a PPC as my CCG doesn't cover the prescriptions anymore. Hope it's not too costly!

@BritInNZ good luck with Letrozole. Glad to hear you don't have any side effects. Hope it helps in someway. Crete sounds lovely!

@Indianna2006 hope you're doing well lovely and all recovered from the surgery. You can do this xx

FlyOnTheWall89 · 25/05/2022 14:15

So sorry you've had a hard few weeks @Tinkerbell098 . It is draining. Really fab news that you have had your letter through - thank goodness after so long. Any idea what protocol you will do? I think all is covered but we are fully anticipating multiple cycles and we only have 1 covered so we are ready for some costs to rack up. We have a 7th June appt so very similar.

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 15:00

@FlyOnTheWall89 I would be on the long protocol as it is quite standard. But more detail would be given at the first appointment I assume. Can't believe it's finally happening!

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 15:00

@FlyOnTheWall89 sorry meant to ask, how long did it take for them to sort out your funding? Was it quite quick after the first appointment?

FlyOnTheWall89 · 25/05/2022 15:03

What CD is your appointment @Tinkerbell098 ? Have you been told if they have a busy clinic rn? My clinic said summer is the quietest period for them. x

FlyOnTheWall89 · 25/05/2022 15:04

We got our funding back in March and it was super quick - like 10 days ish, maybe 2 weeks. I totally wasn't expecting it and it was all really new and all went so fast and I don't think we were ready for it mentally. Hoping yours is quick for you x

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 15:06

@FlyOnTheWall89 It would be CD25 for me, so quite late to start anything this cycle, which I'm OK with. I hope I can start in July, but not sure what needs to be done between 1st appointment and treatment starting (funding to come through, scans, blood tests etc?) so not sure when I'd actually start.

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 15:09

@FlyOnTheWall89 sorry missed your question - no I haven't been told about the busy periods for the clinic, but I can see that summer could be less busy due to holidays. Hope our funding will also get sorted quickly. Was it 10 days after the first appointment that you had the funding come through? That would be great.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 25/05/2022 15:12

@Tinkerbell098 we have to have had an STI test within 3 months of starting I think. Everything else is done - I had to have rubella bloods as my GP hadn't already done those. Long protocol starts on CD21 from my understanding. Is this literally your first fertility clinic app or your nurse appointment? Sorry hard to keep track - you may have already said x

Tinkerbell098 · 25/05/2022 16:05

@FlyOnTheWall89 it's alright, there's so much going on here, it is hard to keep track. This is literally the first time I'm having an appointment with the clinic. All I've got so far today through the post is a bunch of forms to fill (consent forms, patient history forms, ID forms, etc) with a date for a phone appointment (doesn't say if it's doctor or nurse). No instructions as to if I'm meant to post these back/email, but I assume I'd be told what to do with them at the first appointment. I'm hoping I can start next cycle, but all depends on what I'd have to do beforehand. Yes as I understand treatment usually begins one week before AF is due, so CD21 sounds right. So the earliest would be beginning of July for me, which would be my CD21.

FlyOnTheWall89 · 25/05/2022 17:11

@Tinkerbell098 arh okay. So my first phone appointment was with a gynaecologist. He went over all our data and made a suggestion to apply for funding. Then he booked me a phone appointment with another doctor who is my lead for the IVF. She explained the protocol and all the drugs as well as the risks. Then she said to book a nurse appointment when we know we are ready to start. In the meantime, I had to do rubella bloods and have my HSG. All the forms for consent, embryo storage etc etc just have to be done before the nurse appointment. At the nurse appointment I think I'll learn how to inject and I'll get the prescription for all the medication. Maybe you might squeeze all the appointments in before next cycle, depends on the clinic I have think. X

Carla2601 · 25/05/2022 17:24

@Tinkerbell098 welcome back we’ve missed you! That’s great news about your appointment and my NHS followed same pattern as @FlyOnTheWall89 if that’s useful. Hopefully the wait is almost over. Re prescriptions that’s rubbish but look into Asda apparently they do them at cost (wish I’d known that). I didn’t investigate as was too late for me but read it on another thread. And you’re most welcome just sorry you also had a bad experience it’s so draining and makes it all even worse

Tinkerbell098 · 26/05/2022 16:21

Thanks @FlyOnTheWall89 and @Carla2601. I'll see what happens at the appointment in two weeks time. The consultant who referred me may have already applied for the funding, hence all the paperwork to complete. I could be wrong! Just glad there is some progress though.

@Carla2601 it's good to be back :) regarding prescriptions, I can still get them on a normal prescription charge rather than buying them at retail price, so that's something! But yes, if I do have to go private, I would be looking into ASDA as this is what I've heard too.

I've been offered this great opportunity to join an amazing company and I've had to turn it down due to all this going on. Just have to prioritise TTC/IVF at the minute, so it's a little S* that my life has to be on hold for an indefinite time. I'm sure you all know what I mean. Hope the wait isn't that long and I'll come out of it in one piece. Already feel like I'm falling apart. Love to you all xx

Carla2601 · 26/05/2022 19:04

@Tinkerbell098 ah that is so frustrating I’m sorry! Hopefully it’ll be successful and speedy and then you’ll be focused on something other than work (although I love love love working so I can imagine how crappy that is). Congrats and well done for being offered it though!

Indianna2006 · 27/05/2022 09:47

@BritInNZ Re the small cervix opening, I’ve never heard of that actually being a thing?! Is it a thing. I imagine google tells us so but can’t imagine it’s very common at all. I’m sure you’re hole is sufficient 🤣🤣

have you tried having a feel? I know that’s maybe a bit much but hey 🤣 needs must. Like can you reach your cervix and locate it or not? If you feel it like mid luteal phase an then around ovulation it should feel quite diff. And you can kind of feel the hole near ovulation a little.

i did used to struggle to find mine pre DD. Easier since I gave birth obv. maybe try give it a find.

my temps are still high post ovulation. Annoying as I don’t know exactly when I ovulated. I could be as far as 13dpo today and possibly take a test…

but then I think DONT be stupid you’re period will turn up over the weekend! 🤦🏻‍♀️

BritInNZ · 28/05/2022 21:18

@Indianna2006 it is actually a thing! It's called vaginal stenosis, who would have even thought 😂 it said you might only find you have it if you struggle with infertility or have a HSG and they struggle to get the catheter in - which is what happened in my case. But also says doctors can inspect your cervix and tell you if you have it, and I've had that many inspections I'm sure somebody would have picked it up by now 😂

I've tried to have a feel in the past when I was ordering a menstrual cup but I have a really high cervix and can't reach it. So will just go with the fact the doctors haven't said anything 😂 if I get the chance I might ask but I think it was one of those usual rabbit hole days when you're looking for any explanation you can find.

Any sign of AF yet? Fingers crossed it doesn't arrive!

I am away for the weekend and I have made the decision not to drink while doing letrozole (seems counter intuitive to do things that might prevent us getting pregnant when it's last resort for us). WELL I had SOOOO many friends asking why I wasn't drinking and if I was pregnant, it was the worst. Just kept saying 'no I'm on medication' as these are friends who have no idea what we've been going through. Wish they'd just shut up and not ask, because even if I was early days pregnant I obviously wouldn't tell them! That's my rant for the weekend haha

Hi everyone, hope you don’t mind a newbie joining! I’ve tried to read through all the posts so thought I’d introduce myself.

I’m 33, my OH is 36 and we’ve been TTC #2 for a year - just at the end of cycle 12 with another BFN.

Had some NHS bloods done which showed high cholesterol and borderline TSH so making some lifestyle changes and trying to decide when we pay to go to a private clinic. Trying to stay positive that it’ll still happen but losing hope more and more.

NatW2021 · 28/05/2022 23:16

Hey Ladies!

I have been keeping an eye on the thread whilst away, hope everyone is doing ok. I am having a lovely holiday its been so lovely to chill by the pool and drink cocktails, we still have 3 more days so enjoying every last second.

I haven't been massively tracking no bbt and i did a quick opk day before expected ovulation so i think i am about 9dpo, last night when i got back from dinner/ drinks i went the loo and had some spotting, i was having some cramps all day. Trying not to symptom spot but in the back of my mind im thinking us this implantation as i never spot! Time will tell but ill be majorly disappointed if AF.shows on Friday

Scrambledeggz · 28/05/2022 23:51

Hello please may I join?

im 32, DH 36. TTC first baby for over 18 months and BFN every month! Had all tests we could (incl. HyCoSy and hysteroscopy) and all normal including DHs SA.

Everyone I know seems to be falling pregnant and it’s stressing me out. I’m finding I’m having more bad days than good now in terms of my mood with it all so we’ve decided to do IVF privately.

Would love to have some people to chat to in similar circumstances!

Carla2601 · 29/05/2022 07:57

@NatW2021 so glad you’re having a lovely time and that’s exciting….keep us posted and have a wonderful last few days!

welcome @Netflixnchilli and @Scrambledeggz sorry you’re here but it’s the loveliest supportive thread so you’ve found a good one! @Scrambledeggz we went straight to private IVF and I’m in the early stages of my first pregnancy (only 10 weeks so not getting carried away) but if I can help with any questions about it all I’d be happy to (we started end of March so it’s fresh enough in my mind!)

FlyOnTheWall89 · 29/05/2022 08:47

Sounds exciting @NatW2021 - bodies playing tricks on us can be so heartbreaking. Hope it's not the case. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Welcome @Scrambledeggz - have they given you a diagnosis of unexplained? Are you UK based?

Welcome @Netflixnchilli - ABC are a popular choice as they offered quite reasonable packages in terms of IVF.

Xx

Hoping43 · 29/05/2022 09:11

Hi @Netflixnchilli welcome to the thread. Did you have any problems conceiving your first? I’m in a similar position, been TTC our third for 14 months now. I’ve been down the NHS route and the care we’ve had has been great. we are currently unexplained so trying until 18 months before beginning to look at IVF (that’s their advice, they said up to 2 years can be normal) x

Netflixnchilli · 29/05/2022 10:41

Thanks @Carla2601 and @FlyOnTheWall89 - I’ve just signed up for their webinar on June 9th, hadn’t heard of them before!

@Hoping43 - no problem at all with DD1, conceived on cycle 3 but it was first cycle of us actively trying so this has felt like a very long journey so far. I think we’ll leave it a couple more month and I’ll try to lose a bit more weight etc and then go private - worried about leaving it much longer as who knows who long that will take before we’re (hopefully) successful. How about you with your first and second?

NatW2021 · 29/05/2022 17:28

@FlyOnTheWall89 @Carla2601 - Thanks for the positivity - its probably nothing but the closest thing to a glimmer of hope in 12 months!
