First Response early preg test

Bizarre - I have been feeling very pregnant for the last 2 weeks (exactly the same symptoms as with DS 2.5 yrs ago) and have done 4 early preg tests - all negative, and I feel like I'm going mad - am I imagining these symptoms! AF due on Tuesday. Anyone had any experience of these preg tests? Are they rubbish and a waste of money?

Hi there. Even with early pg tests it can be difficult to get a +ve result before AF is due, if there is just not enough hormone around. I don't know what brand you're using, but when I tested for this pg I got one that was a real swizz - I bought one 'early' and one standard one and when I looked at the small print I noticed they had exactly the same sensitivity!!! (Am abroad though so you probably won't encounter this brand). Used the 'early' one one day after the earliest day I'd have expected AF (IYSWIM - my cycle varied by a few days) and got a faint-to-mid lne, the other one three days later and got a stronger one. Even after AF's due it can sometimes take several weeks to get a BFP - no personal experience of this but have heard plenty of anecdotal evidence. I'd wait until Weds and test again. Good luck!

berolina · 21/11/2004 20:16

dohhh, sorry, stupid me, you've put the brand in the subject line. It wasn't 1st Response (or at least not sold under that name) that I used.

bigbanana · 21/11/2004 20:39

Thanks! I just need to chill out and be patient (not my strong point) these two weeks have gone so slowly. To be honest it would be a miracle if I was preg - conception would have happened 3 days before ovulation I think...but there's no getting away from the very real 'symptoms' - metal mouth, tingling, funny tummy, nausea waves most days...! Keep things crossed for me!

fastasleep · 22/11/2004 11:17

bigbanana... I have those symptoms too which is just...ugh daft! Because there should (but who knows) be 10 days before my next AF... I tried first response just now too and got 1 little pink line, of course! Maybe it's my subconcious trying to tell me I'm preggers because my friend just found out that she is...lol...

I feel like I'm going mad too! Was just feeding my son his porridge this morning and had a huge wave of sickness, it was the last straw so I rushed out to Superdrug...ugh..whhhyyy! Lol

Good luck though, keep testing at 2/3 day intervals ...

bigbanana · 22/11/2004 12:08

Fastasleep - thank god it's not just me - the waiting is awful isn't it?! I have bought 4 First response tests and all negative over the last few days - I can't believe it!! I am going to be so embarressed if I'm not preg - and I will really start wondering about myself!

I think because I had such preg symptoms so soon (2 days after unprotected sex) I was convinced there must be loads of the hormone in my system and would therefore show up early!

AF due tomorrow - don't know when to do next test - almost scared to do one now incase it is neg again!! When are you next doing one?

OP posts:
fastasleep · 22/11/2004 13:35

I'm waiting till the first of next month lol... cos I'm the same - pregnancy symptoms almost straight away... AF is due 2/3rd of Dec! If you're due AF tomorrow why not try tomorrow morning with your first..erm..pee of the day? Lol

Good luck again! x

bigbanana · 22/11/2004 13:39

OK - so I have really lost it now - just gone to chemist to buy a pack of digital preg tests - there can be no doubt then eh?! I will lay money on the fact that I will do a test today! Infact - see you in a minute, I'm off to do one now - I've definately lost my marbles. I'm normally such a sane, rational, head on shoulders girl...well, I was before I had a child anyway. I'm doing really strange things (apart from obsessing about preg tests!!) like putting things in completely the wrong places and forgetting the right word for things...scary!

OP posts:
fastasleep · 22/11/2004 14:41

Oh bigbanana! You made me laugh... I don't like digital tests but hey they do the job lol....

Just, don't peer at the lines afterwards because they can be funny and show 2 instead of the usual 1 - go by display only!

Hurry back and give us the result! Can be negative even weeks after your period is due sometimes by the way, so don't lose hope or go on a drinking binge for a litte while yet

bigbanana · 22/11/2004 14:53

FAS,

Doh! Negative!

You'll be pleased to know that I didn't waste yet another preg test (keeping the 3 digi tests for tomorrow onwards) but used an old preg test I had in cupboard for 2.5 years - as I thought got nothing to lose with it as it's prob out of date anyway!

OK - really need to try and focus on something else until tomorrow. If it comes up negative tomorrow I'll be gutted! I know I'm obsessing, but really and truly can't help myself - it's such a big thing isn't it?!

I surely won't have to wait another 2 weeks to get a positive result will I? I'll be locked up - in a padded cell - in a straight jacket. I NEED TO KNOW NOW!!!!!! Sorry. Feel better now!

OP posts:
fastasleep · 22/11/2004 15:01

I need to know too!...And when it says negative in like...ugh 8 daaays time then I'll be on a mission ...poor hubby...

Just keep testing, try cleaning lots or... do something crafty and messy with your DS...If you find something magic to take your mind off it tell me! Lol...

I'm so silly... you'll be all pregnant and I'll just look foolish! As per usual

bigbanana · 22/11/2004 15:36

NO! Have faith!! I just think that as we know what the symptoms are - surely it's impossible to be experiencing them in the mind for day after day - that would just be exhausting wouldn't it?!

Am using I'm a Celebrity on ITV2 to take my mind off it for a bit! (classy bird me!), as DS is in nursery today - joy - gives me a break from the pain of potty training! Eugh!

Keep me posted though - I'll support you through the next 8 days of obsessing!!

OP posts:
fastasleep · 23/11/2004 08:25

I still feel sick and a bit dizzy, and my boobs are yucky... but I think I probably have a bug or something... a very long lasting bug lol.. ok I admit it I'm just crazy!

I hope today goes well with the testing

bigbanana · 23/11/2004 14:41

Hi, Still negative! Can't believe it - still feel very preg though and no sign of AF yet...

OP posts:
morningpaper · 23/11/2004 15:06

lol everyone

Last month I had ALL the symptoms - very sore breasts, nausea ... and AF turned up right on time. And I spent TWENTY QUID on those damn plastic sticks which just said "NO NO NO YOU CRAZY OBSESSED FOOL"....

fastasleep · 23/11/2004 15:10

Aww sorry bigbanana, but still no AF, so that's good still sending good luck vibes and I'll gather some baby dust from my pregnant friend for us tomorrow lol rubs her belly!!

morningpaper... I'm sure those little sticks will be saying those exact words to me on the 1st of Dec!!

bigbanana · 23/11/2004 16:01

I can't believe my obessing has already cost me £37 - that is immoral - I am so ashamed! Particularly as we are so overdrawn at the moment! Ooops - there's no stopping a woman possessed with those goddamn sticks is there. Cannot tell you how hard it is not to do another test tonight - will barely hold out for tomorrow morning. Yikes.

OP posts:
fastasleep · 23/11/2004 17:19

Giggles we are so daft. At least we know we're not on or own in this though!!

fastasleep · 23/11/2004 17:20

Hmph the one time i want it to show as giggles it shows as bold...silly thing.

bigbanana · 24/11/2004 11:28

Still no AF and preg test still negative!
I have now run out of Preg tests and am running out of patience too! I think I'll just wait and see if AF happens over next few days (unusual to be late) and if not, buy another test and do it on Satruday. Humph.

OP posts:
fastasleep · 24/11/2004 14:11

Aww bigbanana! Still no AF is good... I got sick when going past the fish in asda today etc etc! But I'm sure it's just sympathetic..

good luck vibes and baby dust stolen from my friend coming your way

bigbanana · 24/11/2004 17:47

I don't feel sick any more I don't think.... and just done another poxy test - still negative. And there was me promising myself I wouldn't do another test til Saturday (who was I trying to kid!)
How are you fastasleep?

OP posts:
Pook · 24/11/2004 18:04

How late is your AF now bigbanana?
I'm 2 days over (guestimate of a 30 day cycle. Did first response test on Sunday with BFN. I've also been feeling queasy, generally pregnant as I did with DD (no massive sickness, just a light headedness). But since the test says no - amjust waiting for AF now. Have decided if no period by Friday, I'll test again then. Fingers crossed everyone.

Uwila · 24/11/2004 18:06

I used first response (and a couple of other varieties) with the pregnancy and it was about a week after my period was due before I got a positive, even though the test box said I could test as early as 3 days before it was due.

I know a few days seems like an eternity. But there may not be enough hormone in your urine yet.

bigbanana · 24/11/2004 19:43

Good luck Pook!

I have a horrible feeling AF is making an appearance - I do actually feel sick again - very strange as I never get anything other than mild tummy ache with AF. I am so shocked by my symptoms over last two weeks if I'm not preg -

OP posts:
pooka · 24/11/2004 20:16

Well here's hoping for all who are still waiting to test. And for all who are trying for a December positive test too.
Time for the reverse psychology - i am not pregnant i am not pregnant iam not pregnant. And repeat.....
