When to dtd

claireday03 · 20/03/2022 12:18

Sorry to be a pain. I generally ovulate on day 18 of my cycle. When is the best time to dtd to conceive? My partner and I have been trying for a while and I'm wondering if we are doing something wrong. Thanks

Every other day or every day if you can for 3/4 days before and after to cover all bases?

DizzySquirrel90 · 20/03/2022 12:25

How are you tracking ovulation? The cycle we conceived, we dtd everyday during ovulation week and my ovulation was on CD18

To add. My ovulation was within the same 18 or so hours of my LH peak, it's not always 24-48 hours after

claireday03 · 20/03/2022 13:02

DizzySquirel90 thanks for you response. What days are you calling your fertile window if you ovulate on day 18? I do track my cycles on the Flo app and I feel like it's out on when I ovulate as it says I ovulate on day 16 but last month was 18. Thanks for the help

@claireday03 maybe try an alternative app or use OPK's to get an indication of ovulation in your cycle, are your periods regular? I have just started using this app called OvTracker going to see how I get on with this and also go off my CM rather than using OPK's which I did last cycle. I think it's a timings thing for us as I always thought I ovulated earlier than what I do but it appears not.

Good luck to you 🤞

@allthingssparkly many thanks and I will give that app a go. Last cycle ovulated on day 18 but not sure if I dtd at the right time.

Your welcome @claireday03 I'm going to dtd every other day on the run upto ovulation, that's what someone advised on here too 🙂

BiscuitLover3678 · 20/03/2022 14:52

I have loads of apps to try and correlate them (flow, flow, ovia, Fitbit). But tbh main thing is to DTD every 2 days including after peak. Easier said than done I know.

Graceybaby · 20/03/2022 14:57

I read somewhere that DTD everyday wasn't advised due to the sperm not having enough time to 'rejuvenate' anyone else heard this? I find it was very hard to keep up with DTD every night anyway, if it happens it happens but I don't like to force it, it will only effect the relationship if no one is no longer enjoying it! Xxx

claireday03 · 20/03/2022 15:35

Totally agree dtd is too much and takes the romance out of it and it becomes a chore! We don't know that. Can I ask what days of your cycle do you start dtd every other day?

My good friend is a ob/gyn. She said (admittedly after a few drinks) if only couples would do less testing and have more sex she would have less customers!

Why are you rationing sex?, just enjoy yourselves at least every other day during at least the middle part of your cycle, and forget early pregnancy tests too, if your period is at least 2 days late then test.

We are used to controlling our lives these days but this is something that has unknowns, the companies marketing test strips are playing on fears and insecurities.

The one thing my friend did day (again a little worse for wear) was think about position when ttc, semen is a liquid and will slip out easily (not reliable contraception kids!) but bare in mindGrin

I don't want to downplay your anguish but try to relax

BiscuitLover3678 · 20/03/2022 15:45

Have you read Sperm meets Egg plan? Says on there when to start.

claireday03 · 20/03/2022 16:17

@gogohm. Thanks for your advice really appreciate it. I'm not rationing anything it's just that I have a very tiring job and my days are long and it can be tough sometimes to go at it every day but you are right I need to relax and see.

How long have you been trying for @claireday03 ? Before my daughter and pregnancy before that I ovulated between cd18-22 and would always start dtd on cd10

allthingssparkly · 20/03/2022 17:37

Absolutely agree with everyday that's too much and reduces quality of sperm, it takes the fun out of sex doing it everyday well at least I think so anyway.

Every other day around the time your most fertile should be fine 🙂

I felt like it was on my mind so much last cycle it was all I thought about and I know it's easier said than done but try and not think about it too much, it will happen when you least expect 🤍

DizzySquirrel90 · 20/03/2022 17:51

I used Femometer and fertility friend.

For my 'fertile window' was the 14th to the 20th

DizzySquirrel90 · 20/03/2022 17:54

Also agree with @allthingssparkly, CM is a much better indicator imo. When it's egg white, get on it!

JaninaDuszejko · 20/03/2022 17:58

At least every second day all through your cycle. Throw away the stuff that tells you when you're ovulating.

allthingssparkly · 20/03/2022 17:58

@DizzySquirrel90 Literally monitoring mine like a hawk now that I will be approaching my FW this coming week 🤭🤭

claireday03 · 20/03/2022 18:17

Thank you all. Such solid advice and I will take on board everything. Fingers crossed.

Trying for about 8 months. I've head checks and I'm all fine so we will have to be patient. I'm 36 so that concerns me too.
OP posts:
claireday03 · 20/03/2022 18:34

@Chanel05 been trying for about 8 months. Checks are all good but I'm 36 so it's looking like it just isn't going to happen.

If you know you definitely ovulate on CD18. I'd baby dance CD16 CD17 CD18 and for good measure CD19, but your likely to fall pregnant the 3 days before. I ovulate on the day of my peak opk but I am 36 and apparently as you get older you tend to do that. I'm currently 12 weeks and 4 days pregnant.

claireday03 · 21/03/2022 08:47

@Jayjane79 congratulations. That's such good advice and I hope you have a smooth and joyful pregnancy

Thank you hunny, I fell pregnant in November as well but unfortunately that ended in an early MC but I was pregnant again by the January. I'm 36 and my partner 39 we did both take every vitamin going to help so try some vitamins as well. Really important for both of you if you take nothing else just take the max level of Vit C,D and folic acid. Do you do opk's ? If not try them and just use the cheapest don't bother wiry this expensive ones they cant tell you anymore than the cheapest.

claireday03 · 21/03/2022 09:52

@Jayjane79 I'm sorry for your early loss but what a blessing now. Yes, I take pre conception vitamins and evening primrose oil tablets as that helps with CM apparently. I don't have much from what I've observed. Did you? My partner is 40 so close to your partners age. Yes, I do OPK tests (cheap from Amazon) and last month detected day 18 peak so hoping it'll be the same this month (just for continuity) but that's doubtful and everything changes like the wind!!!
