Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

@Nyxxie @Dreamingof3 yes I had a pack of 50 too.... don't think they'll last as long as I anticipated given I've used 10 already 😬

@WingingIt09

Welcome *@Bear486*. We have a list to try and help us keep track of when everyone is starting to TTC, since some of us are starting now and others waiting till later in the year. You are welcome to be added to it if you like? Just helps us know what stage everyone is at as the group is getting big :)

@Sunshine0987 absolutely! Is it your first baby? We also have our ages on there if you want to share that too?

Is there any disadvantage to not waiting until you have a natural period after coming off the pill? The only one I can think of is that it’s harder to date the pregnancy, but my friends’ experiences have been that even friends who were very sure of their dates were overruled by their dating scan anyway.

Not that I’m aware of, one of my friends got pregnant before first period after coming off implanon, all fine.
HippeePrincess · 24/01/2022 09:52

Hi @BlueberryMacaron , my disadvantage was that I didn’t get a natural period for over 3 months and so I thought I was pregnant, weekly for over 2 months I was obsessing over tests and it not arriving.

OCM19 · 25/01/2022 08:19

Ok, I have definitely got the POAS addiction! I’ve been using some old clear blue digital ovulation tests and today I got a flashing smiley which means high fertility before the peak.

@BlueberryMacaron I didn’t with my first and I haven’t had my natural period yet and still tracking my cycles. I don’t know if any disadvantage other than not knowing your cycles as well.

WingingIt09 · 25/01/2022 10:30

That's exciting @OCM19.

I didn't POAS yesterday, but gave continued tracking my BBT and it dipped yesterday and came up a bit but stayed lower than usual today so maybe AF might finally be on her way and I can start tracking a proper cycle?! Will see what happens tomorrow...

I decided to go for it and downloaded two books, I've just logged out of work and now going to start reading!

I purchased - it starts with the egg, 2nd edition and the impatient women's guide to getting pregnant.

I am actually looking forward to reading them to coincide with getting myself ready for ttc ☺️

Summerbreeze111 · 25/01/2022 16:58

P.s I'm worried about ordering the ovulation tests as I can imagine becoming obsessive.

When I was younger I used to irrationally get paranoid every single month that I was pregnant (despite using contraception) and I would become obsessed with symptom spotting, my periods used to be super delayed because of it and it would feed into my worry that I was pregnant. I think I was stressing and causing the period delay. I realise I am making myself sound a bit crazy here, anxiety for you, but I'm worried if I go down the POAS route I will end up delaying ovulation by concentrating and worrying about it!

I said to my partner, May will arrive and I will probably skip a period because I've been thinking about it for so long and preparing, my body will play tricks on me 🤣🤣

NarnieJoy · 25/01/2022 17:56

@Summerbreeze111 I totally feel that, I get so worried about when my period will arrive and obsessing over whether it was day 28 or 30 what does it all mean?! And whether that means if I’m ovulating right… sometimes tracking cycles can make you feel crazy.

I looked at nursery furniture online today 🙃 it’s all so cute. But I think we’ve decided if we are ever blessed to have a baby we’d keep it a surprise what we were having! What are others thinking? I think it would put less pressure on me to find a name as well because hubs is obsessed with two syllable first names and one syllable middle 🤦‍♀️

WingingIt09 · 25/01/2022 18:24

@Summerbreeze111 I completely understand that. It's easy to r obsessed!

I may have rather optimistically bought Christmas maternity jumper in the sale today when out shopping 🙊 it was a bargain and based off previous track record of 3 pregnancies conceived first month trying and one surprise pregnancy I should be pregnant by Christmas since we're starting in May... hoping I've not jinxed myself though 🙈

OP posts:
BlueberryMacaron · 25/01/2022 18:36

@Summerbreeze111 I haven’t bought any tests or books yet. I’ve said that for the first couple of months I’ll just take it easy and see what happens but I’ll find out when I get there. I can see me getting a bit obsessive!

@NarnieJoy I’ve always liked the idea of having a surprise as well. I’m a bit funny with name syllables as well! I’ve said that the middle name can’t be two syllables because I don’t want to have all two syllable names 😂 but it could be one or five so hopefully not too hard.

OCM19 · 25/01/2022 20:42

@Summerbreeze111 I completely get it, it’s hard to know when to stop isn’t it.

@NarnieJoy we didn’t find out with our DS, it’s such a lovely surprise after labour, although I knew it was a boy, just had a feeling!

HippeePrincess · 25/01/2022 21:13

DP wants us to find out the sex, I had a surprise with no1 but I was pretty sure I knew, and I thought it knew with no2 as well and didn’t want to get that idea in my head and be wrong so found out. I don’t really have a preference so happy to find out again as that’s what DP wants.

I have been having a bit of a declutter and selling, plus boxed up some of the lesser used things from our kitchen- feeling more motivated to work towards our move that I had been.

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 25/01/2022 21:46

I had always had reliable periods summer and then I started TTC and for the first two months they went haywire, typical! It worked 4th go though so did settle down quickly.

I am going to go with what DH wants I think about finding out. I would quite like to do at birth this time as didn't last time but don't feel strongly on it either way.

Jennifer89 · 25/01/2022 21:47

@NarnieJoy. I am leaning towards gender being a surprise and would be lovely surprise either way. We have spare room painted gender neutral green already which helps and would just need to get gender neutral clothes. Tbh helps me spend less on cutesy boy/girl outfits as I would probably then get carried away. Grin

WingingIt09 · 25/01/2022 22:18

I would quite like a surprise. We found out with DD1 and DD2 but as it's our last I would quite like to experience a surprise too. DH wants to find out though.

OP posts:
Sunshine0987 · 25/01/2022 22:47

@NarnieJoy I want it to be a surprise but I think DH wants to find out. He's said that he's happy to find out and keep it a surprise from me but I know I'd get too frustrated with him knowing before me! So I'm still working on him to agree for us both not to find out!

OCM19 · 26/01/2022 09:06

Morning ladies, I’ve got a bit of a dilemma that I feel only this group will be able to help me with!

I’m going on a hen do in 2 months (end of march) and one of the activities is a Segway! I know segways aren’t recommended for pregnant women, but I know I’m being incredibly optimistic to think I may be pregnant by then! It’s about £30 but if I was pregnant nobody would know at that time but of a giveaway if I just dipped out! I know the chances are possibly low, just forward planning!

BlueberryMacaron · 26/01/2022 09:33

@OCM19 tricky one! I didn’t know that segways aren’t suitable for pregnant women so probably not as big a giveaway as not drinking/using a hot tub/going on a rollercoaster or something which everyone know pregnant people shouldn’t do. Is it the kind of thing where you could just decline the Segway now and say it doesn’t take your fancy, or would that be frowned upon in your group? If you’re anything like me you could probably blame your coordination! When would you need to commit by?

HippeePrincess · 26/01/2022 09:52

@OCM19 I would think it’s in case you fall and is more relevant for if you have a bump, even if you got pregnant right away you’d still be less than 8 weeks? Highly unlikely riding a Segway would do anything to harm your pregnancy at that stage even if you fell surely? If I was likely to do one of these activities (I’m not) I’d definitely still do it up to about 12 weeks.

Amber17 · 26/01/2022 09:58

@OCM19 Surely it means its unsafe with a bump? There's an article [[https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/pregnancy-week-by-week/expert-answers/fall-during-pregnancy/faq-20119023] here] on what to do if you fall over whilst pregnant - it seems to say that its only 2nd trimester on that's really an issue.
