Hi has anyone taken pregnacare conception? Did it affect your period in any way? Just hoping to be reassured it will come back!

I only took them for around 3-4 weeks and stopped taking them and I’m now on cycle day 50! I’m 19 days late on my period and still getting negative BFN.

I have experienced some very light spotting about 2 weeks ago which was a very small amount like 2 dots of pale pink spotting.

Then about 5 days ago I had light brown spotting on and off for about 2 days- could this be instead of my period?

My heads all over the place with it now, just want AF to show so I know where I’m at! Has anyone experienced this before xxx

Ive gone back to just taking vitamin D and folic acid which I’ve been using for months no problem.

Thank you! My GP was lovely so feeling relieved I seem to have landed with a good one!

Thank you so much. Means a lot to share experiences with others and feel more normal. This thread has been the first time I've ever messaged on here and it's been so helpful.

It really is maddening that companies like this are allowed to sell vitamins with this side affect which clearly has affected so many of us. I've stoped taking any tablets and AF has finally arrived a week following on from this decision. Really hope for positive tests or AFs appear for you all soon too.

I've decided that for me I have a good diet (which contains good amounts of folic acid & vit C naturally) I'm out side regularly on dog walks with it coming into spring and being more sunny (for vit D) I'm going to try oh natural for a cycle just to give my body a break and reset back to my natural pattern before trying anything else.

I'll check in with what the Dr makes of this when I see them next week but I really don't want the uncertainty like this month again. Will share any relevant guidance back too.

Hope the blood test went ok today @Mushroo
Xxx

Mushroo · 20/02/2023 18:08

@Elen123 thank you - it was fine and the nurse was really nice.

It goes to show the effect if we both got AF around a week after stopping them.

I completely agree it’s mad that it’s allowed! I know it says on the box, but to quote Ross ‘they should put it in huge letters!!!’.

Im also now going to really look at my diet and up fruit and veg, which has to be good for me generally anyway.

sl7uk · 21/02/2023 11:43

@Elen123 This is the first time I've used Mumsnet too! Really glad your AF has finally come and I hope mine comes in a week or so, now I've realised it could be the Pregnacare vitamins (and if it is that, that is crazy. They shouldn't be allowed to be sold).

Is this your first time TTC? If it is, I'd love to hear how you're getting on. Wishing you all the best 🙏

My AF finally came today, about 3 weeks after finishing the proceive vitamins! This has been a worrying month to say the least! I've ordered a forth test and will be taking it on Thursday (cd 3) to see what my hormones are doing

So glad it arrived! It’s such a relief isn’t it :)

LizzeyBenett · 18/03/2023 22:45

Yes !! Now I can't 100% say it was pregnacare but it lines up with when I started taking it. I only had my first normal period this month after I'd say 8-9 months for. Start taking it , I stop taking it maybe 3 months ago. I can't fathom what they put in them that does this it's crazy

Elen123 · 25/03/2023 21:34

Hi all, My Dr has come back and said they feel i should be taking a folic supplement at least. Im feeling nervous because of how much pregnacare messed me up before. Has anyone whose had issues with pregnacare experienced any issues with just folic or can you recommend any specific just folic tablet that hasn't had an adverse affect? Had a normal cycle this month so was definitely pregnacare before but keen not to have another month where Im unclear what's happening with my body (unless for a good reason of course!)

I’ve been taking folic acid for months no problem at all. If anything, it shortened my cycle by a day or so.

Definitely take it :)

Elen123 · 27/03/2023 17:56

Thanks @Mushroo :) helps making me feel more confident in testing it out. 😍

SRdino · 23/04/2023 02:50

my period has always been regular in my life I am 39 now and never once has it delay.. will it ever come back? Now it has been three days delayed.. I though I was pregnant but no:(
what should I do now? Should I stop taking this? Will my period ever come back to normal?

Lollipop96 · 22/05/2023 08:47

I’m having the exact same issue! I’m 4 days late after taking pregnacare for the last few weeks.

I’ve been taking pregnancy tests every day with hope to see a positive test but they’re all negative.
After reading this thread it’s reassured me so much I’m not going insane!
I think I’m just going to find folic acid and alternative vitamins to take now. It’s so depleting after working hard to work out when TTC.

Anyone trying to convince should be taking folic acid and it won't effect anything. It's so important to take it and keep taking it once pregnant to prevent spina bifida

Rallyy · 09/07/2023 00:53

Hi guys, i have taken tgese for 2 month, with a cycle around 27-29 days. Now i am completely meesed up and late by 2 months. I stopped them 1month ago and still nothing. Took 10 pregnancy tests and hcg blood test, i am loosing my mind as ruined my cycles, have never had any issues and never missed a period.

glasshalffull0 · 09/07/2023 11:42

I'm on cycle 2 with Pregnacare conception and my cycle is usually 31 days (give or take a day) and my previous cycle was 37 days. I was convinced I was pregnant and was heartbroken that I wasn't. I'm currently on CD33 and still no AF. Considering stopping them and just taking folic acid instead

OMGTTC · 11/09/2023 06:51

I’m equal parts relieved to have found this thread and so furious with myself for taking these 😖 I had a regular 26-day cycle, came off hormonal contraception a few months ago to start tracking my cycle, and now it’s all gone to pot. I’m currently on day 28 and think I could end up being around a week late.

I tested yesterday morning, BFN. I was so convinced it would be a BFP even though it was our first cycle trying, because I had every symptom going - nausea, fatigue, etc.

I’ve ordered the Boots vitamin D and folic acid supplements and will swap to those instead while I wait for AF.

The thing that’s made me crossest is that Vitabiotics (Pregnacare’s company) have an article on their website saying there’s no known link between the vitamins and period delay, with a man as the image preview/thumbnail. I know that’s irrational, but hundreds of women if not more are saying this has happened to them, and yet they can’t find anything in the studies?

It’s so upsetting when you’re trying to do everything right by taking all the right vitamins and end up messing things up!

Hope all of you either found your lost AFs or got BFPs 💕

OMGTTC · 11/09/2023 08:30

Can I ask those of you who stopped taking Pregnacare, did your cycles mostly go back to normal fairly quickly? So gutted that I had a great regular cycle and I’ve buggered things up by taking something that’s supposed to help 😔

OMGTTC · 15/09/2023 08:07

I’m on CD32 now 😕 ordered some ovulation tests so I can figure out what an earth’s going on with my cycle once AF does show her face.

I think I did ovulate this month because I had a lot of EWM (sorry, TMI) and it was possibly around a week after I would have expected ovulation to be, so I’m hoping AF will
show up soon. At the time, I didn’t think much of it 🤷🏻‍♀️ so frustrating for our cycles to get out of whack just when we want to work out what’s going on!

How are the rest of you getting on? X

OMGTTC · 18/09/2023 08:20

AF turned up on CD33, so a full week late for me. Just posting in case it helps anyone else waiting for their period after taking Pregnacare.

I got an automated email from Holland and Barrett to review the tablets at the weekend as well. Wish I’d read those reviews before, this has happened to so many women!

Rallyy · 18/09/2023 14:09

It eventually came back after almost 3 months, when have already request from GP some pills to make it come back.

Just before I started the pills, it came.

OMGTTC · 18/09/2023 14:26

Wow, @Rallyy, that sounds really stressful for you. I’m really glad it came back and I hope it re-establishes its regularity too.

I wonder what proportion of women who take these find their cycles are disrupted? Just going by the star-ratings of Holland and Barrett’s reviews, almost the entire first page of reviews mentioned cycle delay/disruption, and then a couple of pages in, there were loads of 5-star reviews, which seemed strange.

Boots Vitamin D/folic acid seems to have been ok so far. Fingers crossed for a regular cycle this time.

MixedCouple · 18/09/2023 14:50

My BIL is an OBGYN and has said if you have a varied healthy diet and lifestyle you only need Folic Acid maybe Vit D snd Omega 3. But all he asks his patients is about Folic acid. That's it. Unless your Dr has done tests to say you are deficient.

I got desperate and took Pregnecare but now stopped.

As I am over 35 I take Ubiquional and Maca root for egg quality Vit D, Foliate and Omega 3 now.

birunthini · 28/09/2023 11:38

Hello - i have started taking this and experiencing the same. I know this post is a couple of years old but did your periods return? Or did you stop taking this supplement? Thank you

OMGTTC · 28/09/2023 12:30

Hi @birunthini yes, mine returned, I was a week late in the end. I’ve switched to Boots own brand folic acid + vitamin D tablets instead. Hope you’re ok, I know how stressful a missing or delayed period can be when you’re trying to track your cycle. Fingers crossed yours turns up soon so you know where you are.

birunthini · 28/09/2023 14:50

Thank you - i was panicking because I’m 12 days late with negative tests and suddenly it dawned on me that this was the one change I had made. I’ve stopped taking this. Going
back to D3, CoQ10, folic acid and DHA :) Fingers crossed my period returns soon!
