Hi all,
I have had two miscarriages since May 2020. The test results can back with elevated autoimmune markers and homozygous MTHFR mutation. I am prescribed Plaquenil 400 mg a day. I have read this drug is terratogenic and increases the risk for congenital birth defects. I also read here some clinics in UK prescribe plaquenil for people in my condition. I want to continue to try to have a baby but I am also afraid. If you have used this drug during your pregnancy could you please share your experiences. Kind regards,

For what condition are you prescribed this drug? Is it to prevent miscarriage? I was under the impression that it’s unethical to prescribe a teterogenic drug to a sexually active woman who isn’t on contraception. Sometimes you even have to be on two forms of contraception and sign an agreement saying that you understand why.

thank you for your message. I am having an arthritis flair rheumatology doctor prescribed the plaquenil, that he thinks it has no risk and I can continue to ttc but I come across with this recent study scholar.harvard.edu/rdesai/publications/hydroxychloroquine-early-pregnancy-and-risk-birth-defects
also in this forum I have read in this forum many woman are put on plaquenil after having miscarriages. I am really worried this most recent study shows almost twofold increase in the risk of congential abnormalities. I am very confused.

I've been prescribed this for recurrent losses as I have a very overactive immune system that attacks my pregnancies. I am on it alongside prednisolone and intralipids. There is a thread I'll link with a few of us who are on similar protocols. I've had 5 losses and am early on in my 6th pregnancy after ivf.

@VenusStarr thank you very much and all my best wishes for your pregnancy
