How long did it take to conceive your second baby?

I know this gets asked a lot so sorry. I got pregnant first cycle with our DS and naively assumed it might be the same for our second pregnancy but AF arrived this morning and I feel gutted. I also feel like it’s going to take ages this second time round, don’t know why, I’m just thinking really negatively about it and I want another child so much! How long did it take you to conceive your second in comparison to your first?

About 14 months.

TheHumanSatsuma · 25/10/2021 10:03

First was around 10 months

pancakesonsunday · 25/10/2021 10:06

First was 7 months, second was 1 month.

My friend was the direct opposite though- first cycle for her first and 9 months for her second.

TokyoSushi · 25/10/2021 10:07

About 10 minutes, but I was 4 months with our first, I know lots of people who were the other way around, hope it happens for you soon.

Pyewackect · 25/10/2021 10:09

No idea . She wasn’t planned. I didn’t even realise I was pregnant until I couldn’t keep my breakfast down.

WingingItEveryDay7 · 25/10/2021 10:10

First was 10 months and currently pregnant with second which took about 10 months again.

It's so hard each month waiting to see if you've conceived so understand how disappointed you must be. Don't lose hope though, it will happen when the time is right! Sending lots of sticky bean love your way x

Chanel05 · 25/10/2021 10:10

It took 8 months to conceive my first pregnancy (mmc) and another 8 months to conceive my daughter. Although it was the same amount of time, it is coincidental. One pregnancy has no bearing on how long it takes to conceive another.

For reference, my dh and I had fertility tests and they told us our fertility was excellent, couldn't be better so it really is luck!

I'm ttc #2 and just assuming it'll take a while.

Give yourself a break! I know it's frustrating but as I'm sure you know, it really is normal to take up to 12 months to conceive so don't give yourself any more unnecessary pressure because it actually prevents you from conceiving.

LoathesomeLinsey · 25/10/2021 10:11

First was 3 months, second was a happy accident.

SunshineCake1 · 25/10/2021 10:11

We were very lucky. DC1 was first month. DC2 was second month. Then a miscarriage then then next was immediately. I hope it happens for you all very soon.

LoathesomeLinsey · 25/10/2021 10:12

Oh, but dh swears dc1 was one month and the happy accident wasn't really an accident, so when people say "it only took us...", they may be misremembering.

Have you been trying long?

MiddleParking · 25/10/2021 10:14

Two months (first took 15 months).

Chelyanne · 25/10/2021 10:19

All of the ones we planned were conceived within a couple of months, some were unplanned. Our problems have been holding on to them, many chemicals and miscarriages between live births.

ImJustMum · 25/10/2021 10:25

I was pregnant with DS a week from coming off the pill. i had no problem getting pregnant 5/6 years later when trying for another but i miscarried 8 months in a row. We stopped because i couldn't take it any more. 9months later, one time with no contraception and we have DD

Benjispruce4 · 25/10/2021 10:28

One night.Blush. First was 2 months.

Badoukas · 25/10/2021 10:33

7 months.

User310 · 25/10/2021 10:35

First was very quick, second was 9 months. Doesn’t sound along time but i tho i the thing is, when you’re ready to start trying, you’re ready for a baby so waiting another 9 months to conceive just feels like ages!

fallhappy1 · 25/10/2021 11:08

We weren't trying and DS2 was the result of a failed pull out method. Ds1 was 8 months old when I found out I was pregnant. We were over the moon though! It did take me a full year to conceive ds1.

CoodleMoodle · 25/10/2021 11:59

First was 14 months, second was 12 months. I've got PCOS and DH has a slightly low count, so we were extremely lucky both times.

Mybobowler · 25/10/2021 12:09

First was a one night accident Blush and the second (two years later) took four or five months and a lot of active trying (OPKs etc).

I was 28 and 31 with no medical or other issues, if that's relevant. There's no predicting these things!

20viona · 25/10/2021 12:43

I'm also curious about this as it only took 6 weeks to conceive my daughter and have just started TTC #2.

Franca123 · 25/10/2021 12:47

First was about 3yrs with ivf. Second about 1 month! We weren't even trying. I thought I had flu. My partner couldn't talk for about an hour after I showed him the pee stick.

Cherryana · 25/10/2021 12:47

Number one - a couple of weeks
Number two - six weeks but I felt pregnant almost straight away - before a pregnancy test picked it up.

DramaAlpaca · 25/10/2021 12:49

Literally one try. It took eleven months for the first. It was four months for my third.

Moonshine160 · 25/10/2021 12:55

Thanks everyone, there’s so much variation!
I’m only on our second cycle so I shouldn’t be getting so worked up about it yet but I really thought this last month was the one so I felt really disappointed this morning. It only took us one cycle to conceive our DS (I was 27) and I have also previously fallen pregnant on the pill when I was much younger (19) so naively I thought I was really fertile and it would just happen straight away again! I am 30 now. I think I need to try and relax a bit.

1st cycle at age 26. Mmc. Then took another 7 cycles at age 27.

Now ttc no 2…on cycle 6 which I think is gonna be a big fat no! I’m now 31.

It’s very disheartening. 💗 just have to keep going @Moonshine160 but it’s hard work to keep positive sometimes.
