So superstitious this month (lighthearted)

I had a miscarriage the cycle before last, and we took a cycle off trying last month to give ourselves a break. I'll be ovulating in the next couple of days and I've been seeing magpies EVERYWHERE.

Now, there's that old rhyme "one for sorrow, two for joy. Three for a girl and four for a boy.....", so I've suddenly become very committed to finding the second magpie of I spy one all on its own. As if somehow it means this cycle a baby might stick! Hmm

I'm not normally a superstitious person AT ALL. Is this happening to anyone else? Help me get through the TWW with your tales of conception superstition!

I could have literally wrote that myself! I've always counted magpies and never thought too much into it. After 2 miscarriages, I seem to be blaming my misfortune on all of those line magpies!

VeryBerry22 · 26/09/2021 23:51

Last week I was in the supermarket, I realised I only had one pad left at home, so I picked up a new pack of Bodyform... got as far as the fruit aisle and thought I was jinxing things so took it out of my basket!!

SuperstitiousMagpie · 27/09/2021 16:12

I'm so glad it's not just me! I just saw NINE all together! I think that means female triplets right?! 😂

Can't comment on the superstitious aspect, but I'm in the same boat as you. Miscarried July (2nd this year, 1st was April), and I'm ovulating sometime this week 🤞🏻good luck to you this time round!!

Here for the strange superstitious obsessions!

Just recovering after a miscarriage myself, and have convinced myself that December will be our lucky month as it'll mean a Sept birthday, and between me, my husband and DD we have April, June and Nov birthdays. Got it in my head that we need Sept for a full set of 30 day months! Blush

SuperstitiousMagpie · 29/09/2021 19:26

My partners birthday is September, mine is April and if I got pregnant this month I'd be due in June so I like your logic! 😂😂

@SuperstitiousMagpie YES that would be perfect! Crossing fingers for you!

SuperstitiousMagpie · 02/10/2021 21:16

Saw two magpies today AND my boobs are achy and covered in blue veins. I'll get a bloody tattoo of a magpie if I get my bfp this month!

@SuperstitiousMagpie Eeeek!! 🤞🏻 when are you testing? I think I'm roughly 2/3DPO

SuperstitiousMagpie · 03/10/2021 02:00

@ell17 I'm going away on Thursday which would be 9dpo - might try a frer before I go if boobs are still sore. How about you?

Ell17 · 03/10/2021 11:06

@SuperstitiousMagpie Maybe this coming weekend. Although CD22 is Fri and I usually started spotting then (short cycles). So might not have to test 🤷🏻‍♀️ good luck!! X

SuperstitiousMagpie · 03/10/2021 11:49

@Ell17 good luck to you too! I'll let you know 😊

I caved and tested this morning, vvvvvvvvvfl on a frer! My fiancé has decided he won't believe it until it comes up on a digital so I'll wait for Thursday for that. Maybe all those magpies and the thousand rainbows I saw over the weekend were something after all!

A little bit different but when I was in early pregnancy with ds I saw three magpies and I was like oh three for a girl and then another hopped out from behind a tree meaning four for a boy and it was so I like to think there's a meaning behind it, hope you get your joy op x

Ell17 · 05/10/2021 16:05

@SuperstitiousMagpie Oh!!!! How faint are we talking? Did you take a pic? So that's 7DPO today. I'm really hoping this is it for you 🙏🏻 ♥️

Shortmamashortcycles · 05/10/2021 17:33

@SuperstitiousMagpie, OMG yes please share a photo! Will you do another FRER tomorrow morning? 🤞🤞 for you!

Ell17 · 05/10/2021 19:23

@Shortmamashortcycles out if interest, how short are you cycles? Mine are like 25 days, but I can start spotting from CD22 😳

Shortmamashortcycles · 05/10/2021 19:32

Yup, mine are 24-26 and spotting from 22. If it helps, didn't stop me getting pregnant either time - first time was DD, second time was sadly a missed miscarriage, but can't blame that on my short cycles - my body was totally committed to that pregnancy!

Is your cycle worrying you? Happy to talk it through if so!

Ell17 · 05/10/2021 21:32

@Shortmamashortcycles sorry about your miscarriage Thanks It's good to hear a positive ending though with short cycles.
I think I would be more worried, but I had a progesterone test in Feb which was fine and I've also had two miscarriages this year, both with confirmation that my progesterone was high, so that's actually positive. I have a DS, we took 3 months to fall with him. This time round we've been TTC for over a year. I can't wrap my head around it, apart from being older 🤷🏻‍♀️

SuperstitiousMagpie · 05/10/2021 22:00

@Ell17 @Shortmamashortcycles my phone is broken so can’t take photos 🙄 my pal has come to visit and she can see it too! I’ve got two more frers and a clearblue early digital so I hopefully we’ll have a better idea tomorrow/Thursday! 🤞🤞🤞

OP posts:
Shortmamashortcycles · 05/10/2021 22:23

@Ell17, it took me 10 cycles to fall with DD, only 2 for the MC. Bodies are weird! I also had progesterone checked and same as you, everything was fine.

If it is bugging you, the only things I'd suggest are checking your thyroid levels (ideally TSH should be around 2) and maybe trying vitex/Agnus Castus (herbal supplement). In my case, my luteal phase is only 10-11 days and it was regularly 11-12 when my thyroid got sorted and was on vitex. But that could have been a fluke!

Going through two miscarriages is awful, I'm so sorry. I really hope you see lots of magpies and get your rainbow baby soon. 🌈

Shortmamashortcycles · 05/10/2021 22:23

@SuperstitiousMagpie, so exciting, 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Ell17 · 05/10/2021 22:30

@SuperstitiousMagpie Yay! Glad you have a friend there who can confirm what you're seeing! Can't wait to hear 😍

@Shortmamashortcycles Thank you for those tips. I've had thyroid test in the past, all fine. I've also taken Angus Cactus in the past and didn't see much effect. I'm currently taking folic acid, Vit b12 and omega 3,6 and 9. I have read up on baby aspirin helping post mc. What are your thoughts? My friend who is pregnant got put on it because of previous low birth weight and I've seen other take it once pregnant to help with blood flow

Shortmamashortcycles · 06/10/2021 07:53

@Ell17, I've got no idea about baby aspirin, sorry! Is it taken as a blood thinner? Is there some sort of test you could do to check e.g. blood pressure that might indicate if it's helpful?

It's so frustrating how little evidence there is around this - and after two mc's I'd be looking for answers too. What a rubbish year!
