@choccrumpet I'd go private over the EGU / EPU - I was very grateful to have had the scans but I was there for almost 4 hours each time 😬. Not feasible for work. For £70 I'd rather be in and out in 20 mins 😂 I would have cancelled the second appointment and done it private, but they don't let you once you're in.

I honestly think no probs with booking and going as often as you want if it brings you comfort. Especially if you are wanting extra reassurance with uterus shape etc. If anything is flagged up, you can always them call GP and explain there's an issue you need EPU for for a 2nd opinion.

But I do think it's strange sometimes the people they choose to monitor and the people they don't - wonder how they pick it?

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think we'll definitely consider some private scanning especially if nobody reaches out to me until much later. It is crazy that the first scan is at 12 weeks. And the 4 hour wait!! That's insane.

No idea! I honestly thought I'd be one to get monitored more closely, that's probably my lack of knowledge/understanding assuming that and it's probably not as critical as others with other conditions. But good to understand this a bit better now. Thanks for your advice 🤗

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/06/2021 15:54

@choccrumpet no I would have thought you'd be monitored more too! I've no idea how they set their criteria, it's strange.

Yes four hours 🙀 I'd get my appointment, block an hour or two out of my diary, and end up sitting there panicking for the last couple hours as I was taking basically a day off work!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'll see what happens when I actually do the referral. I don't know if they check my history at some point. My GP mentioned that they might ask me to see a consultant in the second trimester but it's not for definite, I think they'll monitor how my uterus is handling the pregnancy.

Omg I'd feel the same!! You might as well bring your laptop with you and work from there...

Marvellouslymadmum · 16/06/2021 22:52

Well I feel like the old lady of the group here 😂 I'll just hobble off on my walking stick and sit in the armchair in the corner lol

choccrumpet · 17/06/2021 07:20

@Marvellouslymadmum haha no don't, I may be a certain age but at heart I'm a lot older 🤣 I'll take your armchair in the corner if you don't want it lol

Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 08:53

@Marvellouslymadmum @choccrumpet as will I 😂

How is your tww going @Marvellouslymadmum ?

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/06/2021 10:15

😂 thanks ladies, though got to say so not looking forward to being called a 'geriatric mother' if I ever get a sticky bfp! It's going ok, I'm 7/8dpo now symptom spotting of course even though I'm trying not to lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/06/2021 10:39

@Marvellouslymadmum you wouldn't be a geriatric, so many women are having babies later now as their first planned one! I see it all the time in London with colleagues and neighbours etc. I saw this yesterday and thought it was lovely. I think I want more than one so I thought it was really reassuring

@Marvellouslymadmum @choccrumpet @Slk3558 I do think lockdown has made us all old 😭😂 By habit I just like a Netflix and dinner on the sofa now as my go to, no dinners and drinks out, fun experiences, amazing trips etc 🙈

OP posts:
Marvellouslymadmum · 17/06/2021 10:53

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh I totally agree, I don't feel too old to have a baby and loads of people do but you're classed as a geriatric mother over the age of 35 or something ridiculous as far as the medical experts are concerned lol

choccrumpet · 17/06/2021 11:12

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that thread is lovely, it helps normalise that having babies later is okay and can be fine to.

For me the 👵🏻 started way before lockdown lol, lockdown has helped me indulge in it! I had my going out partying and dancing days in uni and a few years after I'd much rather have dinner and drinks and be home at a nice time. It has probably gotten worse in lockdown, but I'd much rather do something chilled out than go out or stay up late. My partner still likes to drink and go out so it can get a bit annoying for both of us 🤣

@Marvellouslymadmum you've done well so far, when is your period due?

Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 11:35

Agree it’s perfectly normal!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 how do you feel today

Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 11:36

You’re only as old as you feel!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/06/2021 11:48

@Marvellouslymadmum I mean I wouldn't turn down the extra monitoring, but I reckon there must be so many women in their 40s in London giving birth, they can't keep the criteria of 40 as a geriatric unless they get more consultants 😂
What symptoms are you feeling? You mentioned them earlier?

@choccrumpet I love it! I'm the opposite, I feel like a child still, even tho I'm approaching my late 30s

@Slk3558 how're you? How're you feeling? I'm good thanks, still feeling really well

Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 12:07

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m fine .. still recovering from that killer 2-3 digital yesterday 😂 just a bit worried because I got an early BFP 8dpo thought I’d be on 3+ By 21 dpo but I guess the body moves at it’s own pace.

Still got sore nipples worse when I’m sleeping and developed a funny taste in my mouth and seem to have gone off tea 😞

Apart from that I feel fine.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/06/2021 12:36

@Slk3558 this was on Babycentre re: the accuracy of CB weeks test. I really wouldn't worry!!

Good pregnancy test, but users must be aware of the accuracy limits of the weeks estimator
There seems to be some confusion about what the results of this test mean. I'll try to clear things up. The 3 levels do in fact measure 3 different levels of HCG, but there's a huge range of sensitivity for each level. If your blood level is 250 and the test only shows 1-2 weeks, it doesn't mean the test is defective. What it does mean its that Clearblue's instructions are not really as clear as they should be.

The manufacturer has to file its test results with the FDA and that's public information. Check out the chart on page 6: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/reviews/K112870.pdf

The Pregnant 3+ weeks threshold is 2600 mIU/ml. However if you look at their data, only 21 of 90 tests they did with exactly 2513 mIU/ml of HCG tested positive. The other 69 were false negatives. You aren't guaranteed to get a "3+ weeks" result until after your level is at least 4000. Clinical guidelines at that gestation are 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml, however, so basically this test can't tell you anything other than "you're pregnant" at 3 weeks past conception.

Please realize that this means that many many 4-week conceptuses (when your doctor would say you are 6 weeks along) are going to test as "2-3 weeks", and that is absolutely not a reason to panic. If you get one negative test, that does not mean a negative result. You have to do several tests, possibly even from different boxes, to be sure.

In summary:

If you get "Not pregnant", you may still have an HCG level below 17. Try another test today, and then again in 2 days.

If you get 1-2 weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely between 10 and 500. It is most likely to be between 10 and 180.
1-2 weeks can turn positive anywhere above 10 ml/IU, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 17. Clinical guidelines are 5 - 50 mIU/ml

If you get 2-3 weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely between 120 and 4000. It is most likely to be between 180 and 2900.
2-3 weeks can turn positive anywhere above 120, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 500. Clinical guidelines are 5 - 426 mIU/ml

If you get 3+ weeks, that means that your HCG level is almost definitely above 2100. It is most likely to be above 2900.
3+ weeks can turn positive anywhere above 2100, but it doesn't reach 99% accuracy until 4000. Clinical guidelines are 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml

The error bars on this test are wide enough that I would consider the weeks results to be entertainment only. You should absolutely not use this test to try to determine what your HCG level is. If your specific HCG level is important, go get a blood test done.

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 17/06/2021 12:49

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that is so interesting! And that they even use the word "entertainment", I think that says it all!!

I think I acted a bit older as a child so it seems to have stuck with me 🤣

@Slk3558 I agree with @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 , don't worry yourself over this, it doesn't mean a lot. There's so much room for error you just can't rely on it otherwise it'll drive you crazy.

I keep waking up early needing to use the toilet for #2 😫 it's SO annoying. I'm so moody today especially at work, keep getting irritated by everything 😭

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/06/2021 12:58

@choccrumpet well I have a changing Lp which apparently isn't a thing and the doctor didn't understand it but it's somewhere between 9-17 days so anywhere from tomorrow if I'm 8dpo (7 or 8) up to another ten days if I'm 7dpo roughly lol

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 not much just been feeling sick in the morning and the bloating has gone which it usually doesn't too

@Slk3558 the weird taste and going off things is a huge pregnancy symptom so try not to worry

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/06/2021 13:08

@Marvellouslymadmum that's tricky, do you just temp until temp drops, or test after your shorter one? That's odd the bloating has gone away too, but I bet it feels good not to have it!

@choccrumpet oh no that doesn't sound fun with the upset stomach

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 17/06/2021 13:22

@Marvellouslymadmum that is tricky, I wonder why it can vary so much. At least you have an idea that it's another 10 days at the most.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it's annoying, I've been struggling to sleep so it's just a nuisance.

Is it normal to be quite out of breath around 5 weeks? Some simple tasks around the house or even standing and talking are making me work harder to catch my breath

Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 13:26

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that was interesting and has definitely put me at ease. I am trying not to worry. I think they’re awful and won’t buy anymore . Much prefer frer lol. That suspense of the flashing timer waiting for the weeks to appear - it’s horrific.

If pregnancy nausea doesn’t make us feel sick the anxiety most definitely will 😂

@choccrumpet my bowel movements are all over the place as well, one day constipated the next twice in one day!

I’ve been waking up for number 1 around 3 in the morning and then lying there awake for an hour googling all things early pregnancy / frer/ dpo symptoms etc . 🙈 I need my phone confiscating.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 17/06/2021 13:40

@choccrumpet I don't know sorry, that might be one for @Marvellouslymadmum as she knows a lot of stuff! At a guess I'd say could it be you need more iron with the increased blood flow? I'm on iron tablets anyway because GP said she wanted me to have enhanced iron above 'normal range' for ttc and pregnancy.

@Slk3558 I know I read that a while back when thinking of trying for a 3+ - decided not to buy anymore 🙈😂

OP posts:
Slk3558 · 17/06/2021 13:45

@choccrumpet I would say it’s normal .. I don’t have much energy atm feeling quite drained. I’m on 17mg Iron . I feel like I constantly need to sit down - that could just be laziness though. 😂

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/06/2021 13:54

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I temp everyday, forever lol

@choccrumpet yes that's normal too, it goes though so don't worry you won't be hugging and puffing the whole 9 months! Could be a good idea to get iron levels checked though I always need to
