@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know, she was very supportive and I'm so glad we can get it done quickly. I'm due to visit my family end of next week so am hoping we get the results before then so we can process whatever it is together but we'll get them whenever they're ready and there's nothing we can do about it. It's going to be impossible not to think about it but I will try to xx

Slk3558 · 11/08/2021 20:40

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 glad you’re getting your appetite back . My scan was good today baby looking good but was in awkward position so she could get the nuchal measurement, said something about a QUAD test? I just ok I’ll have the bloods done in a few weeks.

@choccrumpet it’s Non stop anxiety, but please don’t worry I’m sure the chances are so low and you’re young as well, I’ve heard a lot of stories about the combined saying high risk and then the NIPT came back negative.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 11/08/2021 21:29

@Slk3558 that's great your scan was good! Must have been lovely to have another peak

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I meant to say she couldn’t get the nuchal measurement.. so said I can have some blood tests in few weeks if I want to for the chances of the Down syndrome. It was so nice to see it moving and lifting it’s arm. It’s really an amazing miracle ..especially for us who have had miscarriages to see it growing into a human is so indescribable. Roll on 20 week scan lol.

@choccrumpet all the best for the NIPT and I’m sure results will be good.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 08:04

@Slk3558 it's lovely to see them wriggling around isn't it! And yes, I think there's an added layer of fear, and then huge relief at scans, when you can actually see it growing and moving. Did you tell them no to screening? Seems strange they wouldn't have you back for measurements for nuchal in a few days - you could always ask for it if you'd like to see little one again. Break up the wait between now and 20 weeks at least!

choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 09:58

@Slk3558 I'm glad your scan went well! Frustrating about the nuchal measurement but agree you could try to reschedule if you want to know.

This morning went okay, I saw my results so it was 1 in 150, so less than a 1% chance but still a chance. All 3 results weren't ideal. nuchal 1.43MoM
bhcg 1.60MoM
Papp-a 0.39MoM

Need to research what they mean but the midwife was reassuring so am trying to stay positive.

choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 10:28

Just been reading about other people's results and it looks like mine are just off and not by much compared to others. So hopefully that's a positive.

@Slk3558 it is magical seeing the baby move around, ours was too, it helps make it more real I think 🤗

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 10:40

@choccrumpet those don't look bad to me at all! Your nuchal is tiny, so that looks really good. My Papp A was 0.48 mom, which apparently means we might need to take some baby aspirin from now until 30 weeks - I'm waiting to hear whether I do or not. Midwife said consultant will tell you if you do.

But that means you have a 0.67% chance of Downs, so 99.33% chance all is fine.

choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 10:49

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know, it's the little chance that I can't get over and want to know more about. My partner is more analytical and positive about it than I am but I'm coming around to it 😓 my consultant told me to take baby aspirin (150mg) from 12 weeks anyways so I have been. I feel a lot better about it today, didn't sleep well and it'll keep playing on my mind but it already is what it is, it's just the wait to find out that's not nice.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 10:54

@choccrumpet I get it, my partner was the same as yours. Because if you just look at the odds it's really good. But I'm like you and want a yes or a no - more certainty. Your nuchal is very small though. Mine was 2.2.

That's great you're on the baby aspirin already. I hope they tell me soon because I have to start it before 16 weeks and I'm fast approaching that already

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 11:03

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 sounds very similar. The worry really doesn't stop 😓 the nhs don't allow to find out gender during NIPT so we'll be waiting until the 20 week scan. I wonder if it's their way of differentiating between the private NIPT and value for money type of thing.

If you're comfortable you could start it now and stop it if they ask you to, it won't hurt to take it but obviously do only if you're comfortable. Or you could try calling and see what they say?

Slk3558 · 12/08/2021 12:02

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think the nuchal can only be seen up to end of 13 weeks and am 13+2 maybe that’s why they never asked me back for re scan, they’re obviously very stretched. The scanner wasn’t happy with me because I didn’t have a full bladder but I felt like I was bursting so assumed it was full 😂 I think the baby was pressing on it or something.

@choccrumpet agree with @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 those odds are so low I’m sure everything’s going to be just fine. Stay positive and enjoy connecting with the baby.

Just to add @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’ve been taking 150mg asprin a day since before ovulation and my consultant agreed it’s of good benefit in pregnancy and really can’t harm at doses of 150mg or less.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 12:12

@choccrumpet and @Slk3558 thanks I might just start a low dose of the aspirin I think - the midwifes aren't very responsive!

@Slk3558 that might be it then! My nhs scan was at 13+6 so that's why I got the nipt to be safe, as they said it should be done between 11-13 weeks for accuracy. Don't know why they didn't book us in at actual 12 weeks then if that's the case 🤷‍♀️😂

Hi op my results came back 1 in 80 chance also with high hgc and low papa a but all was fine, it can mean the placenta maybe isn't working as well as it is should near the end so I had to have lots of scans to make sure she was growing well, she stopped growing at 34 weeks so had a csection early, I had a cvs from their recommendation so I knew either way.

choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 12:31

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 @Slk3558 I've heard of a few women having issues getting appointments on time now so must be busy in those areas or lack of organisation. So far mine have been okay thankfully, already have the appointments for all my scans i think.

@Slk3558 thank you I feel a lot better knowing the actual results and putting them into context.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my midwife hasn't been the best at texting but when I called recently she picked up almost immediately which I was surprised about so maybe try that if you haven't already?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 13:56

@fingerscrossed27 ah that's lovely it all worked out with your little one

@choccrumpet I don't have a phone number for mine, just an email address that goes through to the main mailbox - they aim to reply in 72 hours I think 🤷‍♀️ Think your trust has definitely been better than mine and @Slk3558. Was hugely busy at my scan so maybe they're just swamped

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 14:22

@fingerscrossed27 that's reassuring to hear, glad that everything worked out okay!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I know your notes are online but are there no numbers there? My blue folder has pages of phone numbers for various things and the midwife pointed out a number to speak to her or her team about the NIPT results today which is different to my own midwifes contact details. Seems strange, it's an odd thing to go through, not really knowing what you should or shouldn't be contacting them about. Hopefully you'll hear soon enough, I imagine it's frustrating!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 15:26

@choccrumpet oh I have written notes now too, picked up at my scan. They've given a number visit for EPU and said only use it in emergencies. Then an email address inbox which any midwife can pick up / and that's it

choccrumpet · 12/08/2021 16:20

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 hmm that's not very useful is it. Hopefully someone answers your email soon then!

Marvellouslymadmum · 12/08/2021 23:02

@choccrumpet I do hope you're right!

I believe they date babies dependant on their size which never quite makes sense to me as they're all born different sizes 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think the excitement comes more once the baby is moving properly - that's definitely a big thing! Then even more when they're born along with the - oh god I've no clue what I'm doing and I'm in charge of a human!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 ive started writing things down but hoping to remember to add more as I think of things! Congratulations lovely boys are great fun to dress up in cute little outfits!

@Slk3558 glad to know you're doing well apart from the sickness! I'm good thanks plodding along here

@choccrumpet if it helps at all I know what it's like to have a child with a difference, my son is autistic and has adhd. It can be challenging but so rewarding - he found out he passed all his GCSEs today with the equivalent of b's and c's which is a good achievement with the adhd! I've always felt that children with Down's syndrome are just the most loving and have such a beautiful soul - only seeing the kind and wonderful in everything and every one. Only you know what is right for you, and if having the test helps then do what you need to

So happy hearing all the scan news!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/08/2021 23:07

@Marvellouslymadmum oh wow that's brilliant, you must be very proud of those results!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm so pleased for him! It's hard because he's very clever but struggles so much to get it down onto paper! And this time with lockdowns has been really hard for him too. He's got the results he needed to start his college course in September and will do well in that as it's what he really enjoys!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/08/2021 08:21

@Marvellouslymadmum what college course is he doing? That's lovely, it's been a really really tough year or two for teenagers especially

OP posts:
choccrumpet · 13/08/2021 08:56

@Marvellouslymadmum those are amazing results, he's done so well! And thank you ❤️ I hope he enjoys his course, he must be excited to start so soon!

Marvellouslymadmum · 13/08/2021 10:23

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 it has been such a touch time, my daughter is due to take her exams next year yet she's missed so much too! He starting a course in animation and illustration, drawing and computers are the only things he generally manages to concentrate on so hopefully he'll get on well with it! He's looking forward to just doing something he's chosen for a change.
