After a chilled garden soiree, it's time to shake things up and head to the cocktail club. Let's get into the spirit(s) - it's a whiskey business TTC so if you're feeling pretty fly grab a Mai Tai and have yourself some Sex on the Beach. Fingers crossed we get some BFP's and keep the Bloody Mary's away. Let the celebrations be-Gin!! Time flys when your having Rum!

Welcome to the 11th (!) post pill party thread for women who have recently come off the pill. Where we can all come and discuss the highs and lows of TTC.

@WhirlingD I'm so sorry to hear that, sending lots of virtual hugs x

WhirlingD · 21/06/2021 11:05

@Kay00 @Juno231 thank you so much. trying not to think about it until I get the AMH but I think I'd be ok with donor eggs. I have a doctors appt for Wednesday. I've been too much of a wimp to call up and see if the results are in already. I think I'll do that today because I'm in the office on Wednesday and I think I'd rather people didn't see me upset. I sort of just feel a bit numb at the moment. Kicking myself for not freezing my eggs 2 years ago when I was getting divorced and all seemed to be functioning normally. How fucking unlucky that it all goes downhill in 2 years. Probably all hidden by the pill.

CaptainGT · 21/06/2021 17:03

Another BFN today. Still waiting on AF.

Have been keeping things fairly light and casual in approach to everything, guessing ovulation and trying to train the app with some data on cycle length.

I am going to start using ovulation sticks... some advice please ladies, do you have to use them everyday?!? or just in the likely window of your cycle, in which case how early do I start using them? right after period?

Sunshinedaisybuttermellow · 21/06/2021 18:46

@WhirlingD oh no, I'm so sorry. Hopefully it's just a dodgy result, but if not at least you can start thinking about what options you would consider.

Does the new job have decent maternity package @Juno231? How long will you need to be there before eligible @juno232 and @missc07?

@Kat668 ugh self isolation is awful, sorry its come at such a rubbish time too! Is your husband isolating too or just you? Hopefully your signs are positive though!

@CaptainGT I'm a newbie so not the best to advise on opks. I was doing 1 a day from around cd7, then more frequent when my cm looks fertile. I haven't done any this cycle yet though because I've ran out and not got any being delivered till Wednesday morning.

Currently cd10, femometer says I will ovulate in 3 days based on last cycle. TMI but how do you tell between cm and 'leftovers' from DTD? Can't tell if ewcm or just leftovers 🙈. I'm thinking watery cm because that's more frequent than the ewcm type stuff. So far we have been dtd every other day since AF ended so hopefully well covered if I do ovulate soon.

MissC07 · 21/06/2021 19:28

@Juno231 I hope the negotiations went well!

@WhirlingD I'm so sorry you're going through a tough time.

@CaptainGT I don't start using them until about CD12 and only do it once a day. But way back when I first started I was dehydrating myself and doing it 3 of 3 times a day 🙈

@Sunshinedaisybuttermellow mat pay at my new place is 6 months full pay! I have to have been there 6 months before being entitled to it. Which is fine by me. I'm sort of at peace now with the fact we'll be waiting another year (if I'm lucky enough to conceive naturally)

Kat668 · 21/06/2021 19:31

@Sunshinedaisybuttermellow luckily he doesn't have to so he's been able to go to work :) sounds like you've got good coverage! Honestly I can never tell the difference between EWCM and leftovers 😂

My pain has now moved round to front right abdomen. It's now consistent which is really annoying. At least before it was only when I went to the loo! Though this is maybe getting my hopes up too much that it's implantation as feels quite similar to period pains? I forgot to mention earlier I've also had a nasal cold and I heard stories of other people getting colds around implantation. Argh gotta stop getting my hopes up.

Juno231 · 22/06/2021 09:14

@CaptainGT buy whichever ones you want to use and they tell you in the instructions when to start testing. It's based on the length of your cycle to try and start a few days before your FW just in case you ovulate early that cycle. Personally I start using them around CD9-10.

@Sunshinedaisybuttermellow gah not a clue - but that shows how keen I am to leave. My current place pays for 26 weeks but I'm seriously willing to forego that. It helps that my new offer is a decent uplift though! I ignore watery CM if I've been DTD as I assume that's leftovers. EWCM is still easy to spot though I think!

@MissC07 so is the policy saying you have to have been there for a year by the time you get to the qualifying week?

Lovebug06 · 22/06/2021 10:12

Hi all,

Sorry I keep disapearing.

At my stage of cycle 19 I know that I will probably end up needing IVF.
I gather this by others around the same as me being offered it.

However there is no funding for IVF in my area.
So I have been worrying about this a lot the last few days. Because if that's what i need, then what hope do I have?

Not meaning to be negative, i had a good weekend, its just playing on my mind and bothering me a lot, because I will not get IVF, I've been told this as well.

I will read and update x

Juno231 · 22/06/2021 10:23

@Lovebug06 is private not an option for you I take it? I see ladies on here even putting it on 0% credit cards and spreading the cost over 1-2 years. Likewise places like Copenhagen and Prague are much much cheaper with excellent IVF facilities. Reprofit in particular is meant to be good/popular. Where it would cost £5-6k in the UK for a cycle it's 2.5k there. Flights tend to be dirt cheap and so is the airbnb.

MissC07 · 22/06/2021 13:00

@Juno231 It says if you've been employed more than 6 months by the time of your 15th week before expected due date you're entitled to full mat pay (took a while to get my brain around it!)

Hello ladies, I had my HyCoSy this morning, here is a write up of my experience:

I was encouraged to empty my bladder before I went in, and the nurse made me comfortable before my consultant explained my previously high AMH result to me (64 pmol/L). She said it was unusually high and indicated that I had A LOT of eggs in there. She suspected at this stage that I have not actually been ovulating at all Sad. My other results (Prolactin, FSH, LT, Testosterone etc) were normal, so she said they indicated that I didn't have PCOS.

The started with the ultrasound scan of my ovaries. And straight away she found my left ovary was enlarged and poly cystic (13 follicles), my right ovary was borderline (10 follicles). She re-confirmed that she thinks this + my high AMH levels + my wonky/long cycles means I have probably not been ovulating.

Then I needed another wee (full bladder was getting in the way). Speculum went in (uncomfortable, but none more so than a Smear). The catheter I didn't feel, but the expanding of the balloon was pretty painful, like sever period cramps. Once in though it got a little easier to manage and the consultant and nurse did lots to make me feel calm. She injected the foam and we all watched the shoot up my fallopian tubes. They are both open and no blockages to be seen.

As soon as it was over I went for my third wee Grin which raised a few eyebrows lol. And the consultant came back in to chat. She said that I have PCOS and has given me some leaflets. She said she will happily prescribe me Metformin, and I need to think about whether its right for me. And she said in our follow up consultation she will offer me Clomid.

The other good news is that my OH's SA was all good. He has been sent the results (which we will look at together over lunch) but she said to be 'in broad terms, there is nothing to worry about there' - yey!

Juno231 · 22/06/2021 15:05

@MissC07 doesn't that mean you can get pregnant as soon as you join? It basically says you have to have worked 26 weeks by the time you're 25 weeks pregnant?

@kay00 I'm so glad your tubes are not blocked and that they are getting the ball rolling on clomid. And yay for good SA!!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 22/06/2021 15:20

@kay00 this is so helpful, thank you. Can you remind me if this is private or NHS?

Kat668 · 22/06/2021 18:29

@Kay00 so glad your appointment went well and they are moving forward 😀

CaptainGT · 22/06/2021 20:34

thanks for all the recommenations on when to start using the ovulation strips I think for this first go I'll aim early. better order some more!

@Kay00 glad SA came back okay and that the appointment was informative and that you have some next steps to follow.

Kay00 · 22/06/2021 21:24

@thedaydreambelievers it's private but I believe it would be exactly the same if I had been referred through the NHS. But I'm happy to have gone private as I got things moving more quickly, and the HyCoSy only costs £380 (SA was £105 and initial consultation was £180).

Moocher90 · 22/06/2021 21:36

@Kay00 glad to hear the appointment was informative and also your partners SA came back all good.

WhirlingD · 22/06/2021 22:36

Thanks for the write up @Kay00. Really helpful. Was there an explanation for your temperature increases if you hadn't been ovulating?

I'm still awaiting my AMH. I have another call with the doctor tomorrow. In the meantime I've been making myself busy researching IVF and calling clinics. I do love a bit of research. I feel better now that I'm doing something. I will book a private consultation once I get my AMH result.

Flat temps for me and tons of EWCM. CD50. Now half way towards the length of cycle 1 post-pill :( Also had the most positive OPK to date. Unfortunately I think these are all symptoms of perimenopause. But then again if you Google something for long enough you will convince yourself of almost anything.

Ploughing on ahead with DTD. it's not over till it's over.

Kay00 · 22/06/2021 23:15

@whirlingD no, I didn't ask but wish I had, as I'm really unsure whether I have been ovulating. Certainly my temp increases indicate that I have but my AMH levels suggest I haven't 🤷‍♀️

Well done for doing some research, I keep a book for all the research I do into my many projects (TTC being one of them lol) and I feel very accomplished when I make some progress 😊

Definitely keep at it, it only takes one egg and one sperm xx fingers crossed you ovulate soon! Xx

Juno231 · 23/06/2021 10:20

@kay00 I'd guess you were ovulating the last couple of times but most of your ovulatory charts prior to that had super low temp rises no? So could have been annovulatory as well potentially.

@WhirlingD and absolutely carry on DTD - plenty of ladies still manage to conceive even when they are in perimenopause (which we don't know if you are in yet - fx)

If I ever have a girl I might suggest egg freezing age 25 just in case lol - I've seen too many horror stories on MN now!

Kay00 · 23/06/2021 15:56

@juno231, that's true, I have had a lot of charts with super low 'post ov' temps, so I can totally see how they would have been annovulatory, and I have often wondered that myself.

In the 12 months since I came of the pill I think I have possibly only ovulated 4 or 5 times based on significant temp increases (i'm quite sad about that really), but two of those have been in the last two cycles (so... an improvement?). I really think the Conceive Plus tablets are helping... but I need to decide whether to try the Metformin or not. Urgh, I can't decide!

WhirlingD · 23/06/2021 22:12

Well the results confirm premature ovarian failure. The AMH of 0.36 was tough to hear, even though I had prepared myself. I didn't cry when the Dr told me but I did cry when my private medical insurance told me they didn't cover it as it was a "normal body process". Nice.

I'm fortunate in that I have savings and a supportive partner. He has been my rock this past week. So it could be worse.

I need to deal with the medical side of things (hormone replacement) and the fertility side of things. @Kay00 is a woman after my own heart and so I now have an electronic notebook for both things, and am reading scientific papers and identifying leading experts. I've bought some DHEA because, well, I can't make it any worse!! Going for an IVF consultation at create. I may only have about 3 eggs left but might try some natural IVF before I give up and go to donor eggs.

@Juno231 am kicking myself for not egg freezing. And for not coming off the pill earlier. And for not leaving my useless ex husband earlier. But hey ho, can't live life with regrets!

So if you don't mind, I'll keep lurking. I like you ladies very much and I'm not hanging in the towel just yet! I might just have another period! Or even ovulate. Xxx

Moocher90 · 23/06/2021 22:29

@WhirlingD sorry about your news life is so cruel at times :( I’m so glad you have taken positives from it and sound like you have a plan of action which is great x I really hope the remaining eggs you have are successful and you get a BFP in the near future xx it’s also great to hear that your partner is very supportive.

I think all of us on here are kicking ourselves who are over 30 about not freezing our eggs. I know I wish I had. I’m nearly a year TTC and wasn’t ovulating every cycle. Got overactive thyroid and hashimotos which I need to get under control but feels like a lifetime away before it will happen for me

lawandgin · 23/06/2021 22:45

@WhirlingD so sorry to read your news. There's a really active ABC/Create Facebook page you might want to join. Xx

Tillybabs · 23/06/2021 23:50

@WhirlingD I'm so sorry to hear your news.

I hope your remaining eggs are good ones and you get your bfp one day.

@Kay00 glad to see your hycosy went well. That's great news especially the high amh and no blockages. Mine is on Sunday and slightly nervous.

At least I know what to expect as you've given so much detail so thanks.
