Period but possible positive test?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to conceive for 1.5 years. Got pregnant in September but sadly had a miscarriage at 9 weeks.
When I got pregnant that time, I had what looked like a normal period, but 10 days later I found out I was pregnant.

Fast forward to now. I tested 2 days before my period was due and it came back negative. My period arrived when expected, and all was normal except that it was slightly more liquid/flowy than usual. Today it’s the end of my period (5 days) and I thought I’d do a pregnancy test just in case, and I can see a faint line.

Has anyone experienced this? Could it be an evaporation line? Or a chemical pregnancy?

Many thanks in advance :)

I have a couple of friends who have had normal periods through their pregnancies. Its uncommon but not unheard of.

Do you have another test you could do in a couple of days? Maybe change brand too that way you would know for sure.

I have everything crossed for you xx

Thanks for replying! Smile

I've done another test tonight. I used a Clear Blue 6 days early test and it was negative so I guess I'm out? So confused!

@ChispaSara
This is very similar to me. I had a period 10 days ago. Started doing my clear blue ovulation test at CD9. They came back.with a peak which is very early for me. I had a bit of cramping & blood when i wiped. Did another Ovulation test this morning clear blue different brand again a peak. I thought i would do a pregnancy test and both came back positive. Very confused.

stairgates · 08/03/2021 10:03

How clear are the lines on the pregnancy tests? I've noticed that here are so many false positives showing up on the very sensitive modern tests, like literally every month and on any day. I think they are causing alot of distress to people.

Fizzybelts · 08/03/2021 10:11

First response. Very very very clear positives, clear blues line is fainter but still there. Yes ive seen peoples lines on here before. I never take tests, this is the first time.

ChispaSara · 08/03/2021 10:54

The pictures are of the test I took just before my original post. It was a boots strip test one. That night I did a Clear Blue 6 days one and it was negative.

Yesterday morning I used a OneStep pregnancy test which came back negative (though there was maybe a very very faint line which I thought was an evap line).

This morning I used a Clear Blue digital ovulation test which showed peak fertility straight away. Very odd for me and has only happened before when I was pregnant.

I'm very confused indeed!

@Fizzybelts that sounds like a positive! Have you contacted your doctor? I'm calling mine today

Fizzybelts · 08/03/2021 12:53

@ChispaSara
Im worried that maybe they are false positives. However ive used 2different brands and both show positive.
Im waiting for a call back from the DR. Im also going to get some more tests too.
Yours look positive too. Yes my peak ovulation straight away was very strange for me too?

Fizzybelts · 08/03/2021 14:36

I went & got another test from tesco, shows positive too. Im having bloods this afternoon. Have you phoned DR?

ChispaSara · 08/03/2021 16:05

I have. They told me to wait a couple of days and test again at home. Said they won't do a blood test :(

I've done another OneStep test just now and I see a faint line...

Period but possible positive test?

Thats annoying that they won't do a blood test for you yet. Ive now had 3 positive tests, 2 this morning & 1 this afternoon. Still having dull aches, spotting is reducing. Ive had my bloods done so i guess will see what they say. I guess they could be false positives.
Its still positive so thats good. Have you got more tests you can do over next couple of days?

ChispaSara · 08/03/2021 17:11

I'll be getting a First Response test tomorrow to use on Wednesday... I really don't want to get my hopes up, but can't really help it.

Let me know how you get on with your blood test results! I have everything crossed for you! ❤️

Fizzybelts · 08/03/2021 17:51

Good idea? Fingers crossed for you. I know its really hard not to get your hopes up isnt it. X

BabyBee93 · 08/03/2021 18:00

In a very similar situation myself OP so watching with interest. My period came on time but only lasted one day and I had a positive OneStep last night. This morning it was negative. Puzzled Confused

Fizzybelts · 09/03/2021 08:48

@ChispaSara
Hey how are you doing? My blood test came back at 107. DRS and myself are very confused. They want me to have it repeated tomorrow afternoon to see what its doing.

@BabyBee93 hey, how are you doing? Our bodies are so strange arent they!

ChispaSara · 09/03/2021 08:57

@Fizzybelts ooooh!!! How are you feeling?

I'm still in limbo. I've done another OneStep test this morning. There is still a faint line, but I also read that a few people get false positives with these?

Period but possible positive test?
OP posts:
ChispaSara · 09/03/2021 08:58

@BabyBee93 how confusing! Perhaps repeat a test today/tomorrow?

@ChispaSara
Morning, i feel ok i think. Ive had no blood when wiping sincr last night so i guess thats good. I did 3 more pregnancy tests this morning, like a crazy women. Digital says 1-2 weeks which is odd! The other 2 were positive, maybe slightly lighter line than yesterday but not sure if that means anything.
Definitely still a line on yours! Have you got any other brands to try?

ChispaSara · 09/03/2021 13:03

@Fizzybelts it can be such an emotional rollercoaster, can't it?
I'm not sure if a lighter line means anything.. which brand was it?
As for the week predictor, I'm not sure how reliable that is. hCG levels can vary a lot from woman to woman at the same stage of gestation...

I'll do a First Response test tomorrow and see what it says. I'm afraid of being disappointed...

With my last pregnancy, i tested positive then bled for 3 days, i had quite a few mc previously but did continue to test expecting the line to fade away. But it didn't, it got stronger and stronger.

I then had a blood test which was 18, and a 2 days later 60, 2 days again and it was higher but not doubled. Had a scan and it was just a sac. A week later and there was a wee little heartbeat racing away!

So it can happen and fx it will happen for you x

Fizzybelts · 09/03/2021 13:45

@ChispaSara
It can indeed. I just keep telling myself im not pregnant as that way i dont get my hopes up. I used a first response & a tesco cheapy. Yes i have read that the week predictor isnt always accurate.
Scared about the repeat blood test tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for you, i completely know what you mean about fear of disappointment. I cant remember, did you miss your AF?
@cookielove
Thanks for you response. Its hard isnt it, not sure what to make to my tests being a bit fainter than yesterday.
Thats amazing news about your pregnancy. My HCG is 107 so i guess will just see what happens tomorrow.

ChispaSara · 09/03/2021 17:25

@Fizzybelts I had a period... this happened the last time I was pregnant too. Makes everything more confusing 😅

PeterPipersPepper · 09/03/2021 17:33

Hi @ChispaSara I really hope this is good news for you this month but I’m sorry to say I had this last year and it was a chemical pregnancy. I had faint lines like you on the OneStep tests for nearly a week after I had finished a bleed/period - and I was having morning sickness - but the hospital confirmed with a scan and bloods that it must have been a very early miscarriage.

I hope that’s not the case for you but I did want to share my experience as I posted a similar thread at the time as I was so convinced it must be a pregnancy if I was having positive tests.

All the best to you.

Fizzybelts · 09/03/2021 18:08

@ChispaSara

I thought you did. Its strange isnt, mine arrived on time & i dont think it felt any different to normal periods. How long did yours last? Ahhhh so you had this the last pregnancy too.
