@thislittlebird i didn’t realise it was ohss straight away as I was worrying about the EC. It felt like shooting pains in my tummy on both sides. And I was getting shooting in my back. It hurt when I moved and when I sat down. My DH had to dress me because I couldn’t move or bend. I assumed ohss only develops after EC but it’s actually the trigger that starts it.

I walked into the clinic and everyone was looking at me like I was a wuss. After the EC the doctor said my ovaries were really enlarged and he advised freeze all. The nurse came back in and said ‘no wonder you were in pain’. It was at that point that I realised it was probably mild ohss.

Will you be phoning to ask what the appointment is for? I would have to ask haha.

XjustagirlX · 10/08/2021 15:23

@MIW01 congrats. Is that your first injection? How did you find it?

Also I’ve had my day 5 call. Out of 15 fertilised I have got 8 very good quality embryos. There is one more that is a blastocyst and they are waiting until tomorrow to see if it improves as it was borderline freezeable quality.

Most of the others turned into blastocysts but were only grade 3 average so they don’t freeze them.

thislittlebird · 10/08/2021 17:21

@MIW01 I’ve said this already elsewhere but we’ll done on the first injection!

@XjustagirlXx interesting, it’s really one of my biggest concerns because the video about the risks makes it sound really scary but doesn’t really say enough about how to identify it. How do they make them get back to normal size?

Day 5...so they’re all fully cooked now? 8 have gone in the freezer?

Following yesterday’s mystery appointment I got a letter today saying my funding had been approved! I nearly cried on the train when I read it. I’d written off getting nhs help, it had been such a nightmare and no one had contacted us since the referral in June. How long did it take for you guys after the funding was approved? I’m worried it’ll be another 6 months.

MIW01 · 10/08/2021 18:36

Thanks @XjustagirlX I don't have any idmssues injecting myself as I already inject insulin to manage my diabetes it was more the "what goes in the fridge when" "how do I mix that up" and fiancée was brilliant and calm and figured it all out woth me Grin

I'm so pleased your funding has been approved @thislittlebird I am keeping everything crossed for you that you will get started soon.

thislittlebird · 10/08/2021 18:41

@MIW01 thanks! It might mean NHS can be our first (preferably only round). How long did it take for you from funding approval to starting?

A relief though. We've already budgeted for private and that money + NHS = three rounds. Hoping that does the trick for us. Less, ideally, but you know what I mean.

MIW01 · 10/08/2021 20:53

@thislittlebird we were very fortunate and only had to wait a couple of weeks, because of the demographic of our area (mostly retirees) the demand isn't as great, so everything moves fairly quickly! It almost makes up for the fiasco we had to go through previously with the other CCG 🙄

XjustagirlX · 10/08/2021 21:04

@thislittlebird the swelling for me will just got down on it’s own. If I had gone ahead with the fresh transfer then the hcg injection would have made the ohss worse.

Yes there are 8 good quality blastocysts in the freezer.

So happy about your funding. If I were you I would phone up to find out what the appointment is for. It could be your ivf consultation and you can be prepared with all your questions.

My funding was immediate but within two weeks I had my consultation to book me in for ivf. I could have started the cycle after my consultation (2 weeks later) but we waited to see minhas so i started 6 weeks after my consultation.

thislittlebird · 10/08/2021 21:26

@XjustagirlX that’s been one of my concerns with private. I’d rather have a freeze all and you have to pay for it when not nhs. Frustrating if you have to do it for medical reasons.

Such good news on your 8.

Yes, I will. Do you remember what appointment you had after the funding was approved?

We’re seeing them on the last day of August and my next cycle is the end of September....if I could start then I’d be over the moon but feels too optimistic.

thislittlebird · 10/08/2021 21:27

@MIW01 Guys is apparently very busy. Post lockdown failed ttcers finding their way there, I guess.

XjustagirlX · 11/08/2021 14:11

@thislittlebird the appointment was my first consultation to book me in for ivf. I chatted through my history and then the consultant went away and wrote up my protocol.

In my experience a month between consultation and cycle was completely doable. The only things that happened for me between them were
Book in for screening bloods
Sign all consent forms
Watch info videos online
Make sure my meds were arriving on time

Just make sure you book in ASAP and do your consents straight away because they might get held up with the nurses etc and it’s frustrating.

XjustagirlX · 11/08/2021 14:12

The extra embryo caught up and is a high quality one. So we have 9 to freeze.

MIW01 · 11/08/2021 15:18

Wonderful news @XjustagirlX

Done 2 Menopur injections and nothing to report so far Smile

thislittlebird · 11/08/2021 23:35

@XjustagirlX I really hope that’s what happens for us. I might call them still nearer to the appointment just to clarify what we’ll be doing. They sent me the funding letter but it has a form on page two and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to return it. They haven’t asked me to.

thislittlebird · 11/08/2021 23:36

Also great news on number 9! If I could get that many I’d be so happy. My old lady eggs are unlikely to be so vibrant I would imagine lol

Glad to hear you’re doing ok @MIW01

Annny27 · 20/08/2021 21:56

@xjustagirlx how are you feeling now after your OHSS?

Lozzlepop · 20/08/2021 22:15

Hey guys, how is everyone doing? Xx

MIW01 · 21/08/2021 10:46

Hello everyone, sorry I forgot to update yesterday I had my egg collection, they collected 6 eggs and 3 eggies have fertilised 🐣 assuming at least one survives, the embryo transfer is planned for next Wednesday (day 5). My question is if we do have more than 1 embryo, whether to have 2 put back in or 1?

XjustagirlX · 21/08/2021 11:10

@Annny27 i recovered after the EC after about 4 days. However I caught COVID I think at the clinic so I have been in isolation. This is the second time I have had it.

XjustagirlX · 21/08/2021 11:13

@MIW01 could you remind me of your age? I think the ideal would be to put one in and freeze the other but depending on age put two back in. It’s a hard choice. Maybe wait to see how many you have.

thislittlebird · 21/08/2021 11:34

@MIW01 yeah I agree with @XjustagirlX. See how they get on and then decide. How many nhs rounds do you get?

@XjustagirlX that’s bad luck. how are you now? I’m getting more anxious about OHSS as time passes. Plus I have nothing to occupy myself with right now. We’ve let ourselves spend a bit of the money saved on doing up our spare room and box room. Then we’ll get someone in to decorate the hallway/stairs/landing. We’ve been putting it off but the nhs round eases the financial burden slightly.

XjustagirlX · 21/08/2021 14:01

@MIW01 ye that’s a good point. What counts as a round in your CCG? If each transfer is a round then I would lean towards transferring two. But if the frozen one is still part of the first round then do them separately.

XjustagirlX · 21/08/2021 14:04

@thislittlebird I’m absolutely fine now. The ohss was just on the morning of the egg collection. I was given buserilin as my trigger which I think reduces the ohss risk. When you come to have your consultation they will probably consider the drugs to avoid ohss. But you can always ask as well for reassurance.

MIW01 · 21/08/2021 16:08

@XjustagirlX @thislittlebird I turn 36 next month but headed for early menopause with low AMH of 3.9. We get 2 rounds and an FET counts as 1 round. Also my fiancée is getting his varicocele repaired 22nd September and I thinknthat may make a difference so I'd prefer to not do FET if we need another round and use fresh eggs and sperm tbh

thislittlebird · 21/08/2021 20:28

@MIW01 harsh that they count FET as one round. Or do you mean at the point of FET it’s classed as a round done? Sounds like they’ll do another collection round for you from the message above but I might be misunderstanding.

The early menopause/AMH issue definitely has a bearing on the one or two decision. Hmmm. See what you get, they may even advise two if they’re middling quality. I assume they’ve indicated they’re all ok so far?

@XjustagirlX yeah I’ll definitely ask. Glad to hear you’re ok now.

I sprained my ankle this week 🙃. Glad it wasn’t nearer to ivf, I guess.

XjustagirlX · 21/08/2021 22:27

@MIW01 so if you have 2 embryos and you put one back in and put the other in the freezer, The first transfer is your first round and when you use the frozen embryo that is your second round? If that is correct I would be tempted to put two in on the first go. Have you checked your CCG rules? My CCG only let you put two in if you are 37 or over or you have had two failed ivf rounds.
