So first month using opk.. what days does everyone start testing after their AF? Just conscious I don't want to waste them and do you test day and night? Or if its not positive in the day do you take that as a no? Thanks in advance 😁

Hi 🙂, this was my first month testing and I began on day 9 (5 days prior to my anticipated ovulation at day 14 and a 28 day cycle), I actually didn't peak till day 16 so I'm so pleased I used them!
If I get a BFN this month I think I'll begin next month at day 12.

glow92 · 25/01/2021 21:29

Forgot to say, I tested once a day for the first few days, then early morning and late afternoon from day 13 this month. Peak was day 16 morning.

Toastedsesame · 25/01/2021 21:36

I start testing on day 12, because I have longer cycles (33 days) so I know I usually ovulate day 18/19. I test once a day at about 6pm until I start getting decent lines and then test twice a day 6pm and 9pm. Once I see an almost positive I test loads because I tend to have a quick peak and I have missed it before!

TTCPLEASE · 25/01/2021 21:44

Thanks im theoretically due to ovulate on sun 31st (based on apps) I have a 28 day cycle. Currently on CD8 so I lf i start testing on Thursday fri? And just DTD anyway? I think the strips I got are a bit crap they hardly even go pink on the control line just a faint line xx

Hi @TTCPLEASE, I normally start testing between CD10 and CD12 and I have a 30 day cycle (give or take day). With the packs of opks I've received there's a table with the instructions telling you which day to start testing, it generally seems to be about 18 days before period is due (e.g. if your cycle length is normally 28 days then start testing on day 10).
I think starting early on your first cycle using them is a good idea and then once you get more confident about when you get your peak you can start testing closer to when you're expecting to get it.
I only need to test once a day to catch my peak but while you're figuring yours out it might be worth testing twice a day once your test line starts getting darker to make sure you catch yours.

Meg87 · 25/01/2021 21:50

I've found that if you leave the strip dunked in your pee until you can just see it spread up to the test area and then remove it immediately the control line gets a bit stronger. Previously I was just dunking it for the 5 seconds or however long it instructed (before the pee had spread up to the test area) but similar to you the control line was really faint.

TTCPLEASE · 25/01/2021 22:25

@Meg87 yeah I've been dunking for 5 seconds I did one tonight just to see and left for the time it takes to go completely soaked and I got a line??? Only stopped AF on Saturday surely it can't be right?? Nothing I can do about it DH is working away until fri 🙈🙈

OP posts:
glow92 · 25/01/2021 22:31

@Meg87 @TTCPLEASE agree with the dunking haha I'd say about 20 seconds maybe?
I also found that despite it saying 3-5mins on the box that mine weren't fully developing till 5mins++
I leave mine while I go for a quick shower.

glow92 · 25/01/2021 22:34

A faint line will nearly always come up... keep testing over the coming days and hopefully see it get darker and find your peak 🙂.

TTCPLEASE · 25/01/2021 22:36

Would you say this means I'm ovulating?? Never had even a hint of a line before so confused as I'm only CD8 🙈🙈

Are you using the cheap dip sticks? If so follow the table in the pack on when to start.

Do track them in an app like femometer or something as it's much easier to refer back to if needed.

Test 2-3 times per day once the test line is starting to get a bit stronger. Don't use your first morning wee - normally your mid morning one is best for testing.

TTCPLEASE · 25/01/2021 22:45

@Juno231 thanks ive just put it in my premom app (only just figured out how to use it) 🙈 and it says 0.4 low.. im glad because the hubby is away anyway so id be fuming if it was high. Ill just test again when he's home on Friday because ill be disappointed if I get a peak before then lol x

Randomly came across this in active threads and it brought me back. I discovered I was ovulating way before the pee stick things said to start testing. Was at the point of seeing a doctor to say I didn't appear to be ovulating at all and then found a thread with physical symptoms (mucus colour and so on) and realised it was about day 4-5 after my period.
Threw away the sticks, started having sex much much earlier and got pregnant soon after. DD is 10 now and is a preteen hormonal delight...
So my point is I guess not to take these things as gospel. Good luck!

glow92 · 25/01/2021 22:52

@TTCPLEASE I use Premom also, I really like it!
I'll drop a pick from my readings last week.
I was really low right up until the day prior.

So confused the ratios are up and down.. says today is high when there is a squint of a line but the one I took on CD8 was 0.4 low whereas I think thats more noticeable line

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams oh really, I've just started today feeling a bit "gooey"... never experienced it with being on pill for 9 years.. but ov tests coming up trumps maybe they're crap coz it was only 8.99 for 30 dipsticks who knows hubby is back tomorrow so I'll just get cracking from Friday flow app says my peak day is Sunday but who knows xx

TTCPLEASE · 27/01/2021 10:55

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams sorry it is me on last comment above 🙈🙈 forgot to change username

@TTCPLEASE sorry I can't offer much help 😞
The strips I have are the easy@home ones which are by the same brand as the app I think.

glow92 · 27/01/2021 10:58

I think the lines you are looking at the control lines, it's a second line closer to the 'pee' side of the strip you're looking for.

Heyha · 27/01/2021 11:01

Yeah there's something wrong there @TTCPLEASE my advice would be to use the 'take photo automatically' option then you have to make sure you slide the lines on the screen (it will pick up the control line but will suggest all sorts of things for the test line if the actual test line isn't clear to it).
When you've got peak you won't be mistaking it, the test line will be dark and the control line will be less dark, you'll get a bit of colour in the test line most days but the peak is really bright and clear

Heyha · 27/01/2021 11:03

Something wrong with the pics I mean, not with you! The top test on your app photo looks good (and looks about right for 0.4 ratio, that's what mine look like). I'll try to take a screen shot of mine for you later

Meg87 · 27/01/2021 13:02

Hi @TTCPLEASE, I agree that it looks like there's something wrong with the pictures. In the image you attached the tests are all misaligned, so I think Premom is having difficulty figuring out where the test line is and where the control line is.
When I update my pics of the test strips it asks me to resize/fit it to a template, where the black 'MARK' line and test and control lines have to be in a certain location (so the app knows which line is which).

TTCPLEASE · 27/01/2021 14:37

Help! So I came off AF on Saturday (CD5) im on CD10 now and just wiped after having a wee and its brown and a bit stringy sorry TMI.. oh I hope im not coming on again its only been 4 days fgs surely not normal 😭😭😭

OP posts:
Juno231 · 27/01/2021 16:31

Agreed with previous posters OP - you have been taking photos of the control line and not the test line.

How long are your cycles normally?

Hopingformydb · 27/01/2021 16:50

@Juno231 usually 28 days so I don't know why at Cd10 I'm getting brown spotting again 😭😭😭
