First Fertility Clinic Appointment Tomorrow

dogmam · 04/01/2021 18:07

Me and my partner have our first appointment with our fertility clinic tomorrow!

We went to the GP after a year of TTC and after 21 day bloods and partners SA, we were referred straight away to the fertility clinic. GP tests were in October/November so it's moved along quite quickly so far.

Feeling slightly nervous but also excited to hopefully get some help! My partners SA showed low motility and morphology so I assume that will be discussed..
What else should i expect from this first appointment? Is there anything I should be asking?

Thanks in advance! I'll update this after the appointment tomorrow as I know there are a few others on here who are in a similar position and might find it useful.

Yeah because I’m on a ton of meds I’m holding off ttc this month @paintfairy. It’s annoying.

Apparently if I schedule my hycosy for the first few days of April I should be ok to try next month (as long as my doc says the antibiotic I’m about to start is ok to take whilst ttc)

That’s exciting! @Kitekat81 it’s a long drive but as you say, whichever one is best you’ll be happy to go to despite the drive. Do they publish their stats for mild or no drugs IVF?

Speaking to two clinics sounds like a good plan.

I would not be waiting to get in touch with Create myself if it wasn’t for the fact I’m waiting for the gynaecologist referral to see if I can have clomid or similar.

Oh god thats such a sad thought that 2021 is out. Am I right in thinking you are all trying for your first?

@paintfairy I had 28 in total too, 20 one side and 8 the other. No idea why I've had a longer period this cycle, CD9 today and it's stopped finally.

@kitkat81 ah that's an exciting step for you! Sounds like a good plan comparing the two.

@dogmam yep. Would be my first....

thislittlebird · 19/03/2021 15:04

I think the 28 was aimed at me @dogmam...maybe? If so, our matching follicles would presumably get the same protocol too.

Yeah, first for us too. Sigh.

I've been absent for weeks! Work has been stupidly busy and exhausting!
Seems so many of you have now had appointments and started the ball rolling with things!!
There are so many encouraging and positive stories here which is fantastic!!! I'm so pleased for all of you and keep my fingers crossed for more positive news to come!

As for me, things are delayed.
I received my confirmation of booking and have been waiting for my initial appointment. I was sent the standard questionnaires through which we completed and sent back along with all of our combined test results which have been carried out by the GP.
A couple of days before the appointment I received an acknowledgment email regarding the returned forms and confirmation of my appointment, which wasn't on the date I had originally received confirmation for.
My appointment was cancelled and rescheduled without any notification. I've since spoken to the hospital who cant explain why I wasn't informed, and also cant change the date of the apppintment. So currently, I'm in limbo. I need to change the new appointment as it is on a day which is impossible for me to attend due to work commitments. The next available appointment I can change to is the last week of May!!!!
I've asked the hospital directly to change the appointment for me but they cannot arrange or rearrange appointments as it can only be done with a booking code.
So, still waiting basically!

dogmam · 21/03/2021 20:54

@thislittlebird oh yeah sorry that was meant for you! It will be good at least to compare notes if we go down the same route.

@flutterby8 hi! Ahh what a nightmare! What are you going to do then? Wait until May or see if you can re-arrange the work stuff? Hopefully you're able to make it work so you don't have to wait another few month.

@Flutterby8 omg that's so annoying, are u on the nhs?

PurpleUnicorn01 · 21/03/2021 21:49

How are you all?

Flutterby8 · 21/03/2021 22:59

@PurpleUnicorn01 @dogmam It's really frustrating. A 3 months wait and they cancel and rearrange without mentioning anything.
I need to discuss with my boss next week when she is back to see what I can do. The week they have rebooked the appointment for we are super short staffed so I'm hoping she will allow me to go early for it, even if I have to go back in afterwards to make up the time or something.
If she can't then I'll have to arrange for the end of May.
To be fair, she is very supportive so I'm hoping it will be fine.
And yes, this is a NHS appointment. I was feeling very positive about the appointment and now this has happened I already feel the communication is lacking.
Will just have to wait and see what happens next I guess.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 22/03/2021 10:32

@Flutterby8 im sorry to hear that, hopefully u can go. Sometimes if you liase with the secretary of the Dr you are with they can give you a cancellation slot x

Juno231 · 22/03/2021 10:51

@Flutterby8 ah that's typical isn't it! Surely it's just a phone appointment though so perhaps you would just need to step aside and conference OH in on the call? My meeting only took 13 min so definitely not something worth changing your whole work day for in my case. I feel for you as my first appointment got rescheduled less than an hour before it happened...

@PurpleUnicorn01 how are you? I'm CD9 now so just bored waiting for FW to start! Think we'll start it tomorrow in case I ovulate early like I did last month.

So one of my friends who is going through these tests alongside me had her hycosy done 2 weeks ago and already has her follow up scheduled in for tomorrow! Makes me feel better that I pushed to get mine moved from July to this month... We're in the same CCG as well and my doc was from her hospital so you'd think the waiting times shouldn't differ such a crazy amount.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 22/03/2021 11:28

I'm good thank you, just awaiting my scan and his repeat SA, had to chase it which is frustrating but hopefully they schedule it in soon.

At what point do you need a hycosy?

I hopefully all is going well for you

Juno231 · 22/03/2021 11:30

@PurpleUnicorn01 they usually set up a hycosy/hsg after the first fertility appointment. Not everyone has them though I imagine?

PurpleUnicorn01 · 22/03/2021 11:37

That's okay then as they just said i need a pelvic scan thats all.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 22/03/2021 17:02

Hi Guys, I wasn't sure if you are all aware but u can have your tests done privately anywhere as there are 3 month waits with nhs at the moment. If you contact the secretary of your consultant they will scan them on to your file for you when you have your results.

thislittlebird · 22/03/2021 21:40

I’m going to book a hycosy soon. I don’t want to pay for it but I can’t wait months, might as well get it down and show the consultant.

@PurpleUnicorn01 they’ll scan them onto the file? That’s interesting. Maybe I should call them and ask to put my results so far on.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 22/03/2021 21:51

Yes that's what the secretary of my Dr said, she said email them over and that way they are ready for the second appointment.

Kay00 · 22/03/2021 22:53

Hi ladies :-) I'm thinking of paying for private fertility appointment and tests etc. as I am keen to get the ball rolling. I have been off the pill since beginning of June 2020, I ovulated 5 times then stopped ovulating (last ovulation on 1st Dec). Im 35, 36 in July and worried time is slipping away. I will chat with my GP one last time but if I'm not referred then I'll pay to go private. My question is (if you know) if I pay to go privately does that exclude me from accessing ivf on NHS if that is needed? Is it worth trying to get the NHS referral whilst paying for private assessments in the meantime?

PurpleUnicorn01 · 23/03/2021 08:13

As far as i know if you've had private ivf then you can't have the nhs ivf. But you can have private tests as that's what i am doing. I hope that helps.

paintfairy · 23/03/2021 08:40

@Kay00 you need to check the rules for your CCG as they all differ.
The GP cannot refuse to refer you though if you fit the criteria. So you need to badger them.

Juno231 · 23/03/2021 09:31

@kay00 @PurpleUnicorn01 it will say in your local CCG policy. My one states that I can do two rounds of IVF privately before I forfeit the NHS one.

PurpleUnicorn01 · 23/03/2021 09:33

That's useful to know, I think Birmingham are stricter. Sometimes they are only offering 1 round on the nhs.

Juno231 · 23/03/2021 10:15

@PurpleUnicorn01 yeah it's only one round on the NHS here too. Well, one round of egg retrieval and then one FET - not sure how that counts.

Got my follow up on Thursday ladies so will update you then. Anyone else got anything happening soon?

PurpleUnicorn01 · 23/03/2021 10:21

@Juno231 what's your next appointment for? I have a pelvic scan next week then my second appointment in a couple weeks to discuss results and treatment options.

Juno231 · 23/03/2021 11:28

@PurpleUnicorn01 results and treatment options. I've just got anxiety as they booked it in for July so I'm worried they'll fob me off somehow. Ultimately I just want to know what the results are so I know what steps to take next as I don't want to wait until the 2 year mark just to apply for funding and then go onto a long waiting list after that. I'll ask if we'd be good candidates for private IUI and I'd want to know what my AMH and TSH is etc.

What are you hoping/thinking your appointment will result in treatment wise?
