Hi, I'm 12 weeks post partum. Had a period roughly 6 weeks ago and nothing since. Had tests in the house so took them and there are clear lines on both. Is this likely to be a new pregnancy or residual hormones?

If it's clear lines I can't imagine it's residual after 12 weeks. I would assume you're pregnant again.

saywhatwhatnow · 28/12/2020 14:38

I would imagine you are pregnant again if you've had a period since, congratulations if so!

october18 · 28/12/2020 14:49

I bled post partum for almost 10 weeks so wondered if that might have had something to do with it.

Have you had unprotected sex? You are really fertile after birth! I would take a digital and then contact your doctor who can confirm with bloods if needs be

Curiosity101 · 28/12/2020 15:59

@october18 I'm not sure how you could have bled post partum for 10 weeks and had a period roughly 6 weeks ago?

If you bled for 10 weeks were you checked out for possible retained placenta? That's the only other thing I can think of that would give a false positive pregnancy test.

october18 · 28/12/2020 16:25

@Mooey89

Condoms used...ironically booked in for a coil fitting next week.

@Curiosity101

I had a definite period at around 6 weeks. 5 days long, cramps, proper bleeding etc. After it finished it went back to what my lochia had been like. I mentioned it to my GP at my 8 week post partum check up and she said to get in touch if it hadn't settled again in another few weeks which it then did.

Faint...but definitely there

They look very positive! I'd give your GP a ring tomorrow but to me you are pregnant

saywhatwhatnow · 28/12/2020 16:36

I wouldn't say they are faint, i'd definitely say you are pregnant. Congratulations!

Curiosity101 · 28/12/2020 16:37

@october18 If you feel well in yourself and are happy that your bleeding did completely stop then I would assume you're pregnant rather than retained placenta or anything like that. It was just the only other thing I could think of that might give a false positive.

I guess one other thing you could do is retest with a FRER in a few days time? If it's noticeably darker than your last test then that'd confirm an increase in HCG and would also point to a new pregnancy.

Alternatively, with it being so soon after your last birth I'm sure a call to your GP and/or local midwife unit wouldn't be unreasonable to see what they advise.

Good luck!

cushioncovers · 28/12/2020 16:48

Ive worked in an antenatal clinic and met patients who have become pregnant as early as 6 weeks after having a baby. Looks like a positive test to me op.

october18 · 28/12/2020 16:52

I just nipped out and bought more tests, couldn't get frer. Clear blue and completely negative. Heads in a spin...hadn't planned on any more. Wouldn't be the worst thing but a lot to take in. Faulty tests maybe?

Look I definitely think you should seek advice from a gp but I had a line on an frer very much like the one on your photo and AF started shortly thereafter. I thought at the time it was a chemical but have since wondered if it was a dodgy test - I did find some poor reviews saying similar on amazon and on mumsnet in fact. Obviously I think being 10 weeks pp definitely warrants further investigation - don't just write it off as a dodgy test - but just sharing a recent experience.

october18 · 28/12/2020 17:12

I've ordered more frer, they'll come tomorrow. Will ring my doctor as well. Thanks for all of your advice, thought I was going to explode earlier.

How soon after having your baby did you have sex? Condoms can split and you're super fertile in the first few weeks post partum

october18 · 28/12/2020 18:18

@StylishMummy
can't remember exactly but wasn't until after my period at six weeks. I'd guess maybe 5 weeks ago.

OP posts:
StylishMummy · 28/12/2020 18:26

One week after your period is coming up to the fertile window in a normal cycle so if the condom broke you could easily be pregnant

october18 · 28/12/2020 18:29

Those dates would add up but would have expected the line to be much darker at this stage then. Will try and get in touch with my gp tomorrow but that's an absolute nightmare in itself at the moment with covid. Need to know either way before I get my coil. Should I ask for a blood test to be sure?

OP posts:
october18 · 28/12/2020 18:31

Zero of my usual pregnancy symptoms but I've had a lot of back ache for the last week or so.

OP posts:
MsChatterbox · 28/12/2020 19:13

I would ask for one considering you are due for a coil to be fitted. I hope whatever the result you end up at peace with it!

Wishingforarainbow7 · 28/12/2020 21:49

Can I ask did you get your frers from amazon? I ask because I had a miscarriage 5 weeks ago, two weeks after I tested negative and then last week I thought I felt pregnant, I bought 2 frers from amazon and they both came back positive, I then bought loads of different ones from supermarket etc including clear blue and they were all negative and my period arrived on Xmas eve. So im assuming the frers were faulty, was very odd. I then read on amazon reviews that some frers bought from there were giving false positives! Heres the pic of my frer.

@Wishingforarainbow7

Yep...amazon. Can't sleep a wink for worrying about it 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Wishingforarainbow7

Really similar to mine! Could two in a pack both be faulty though??

OP posts:
Wishingforarainbow7 · 28/12/2020 21:53

The two in the pack were both positive for me and all others were totally negative! And I took alot because I was so confused x
