Implantation symptoms

Hi all, I know this board is inundated with similar posts but I’m going a little mad here and could really do with advice. My partner and I have been trying for a year and I don’t want to get my hopes up unnecessarily! (Also apologies for if TMI below)

Late Christmas Eve I got a sharp pain in my left side. I was pretty sure that was my period started so went to check. I had some very light pink on the loo roll. Used a tampon before bed then thought nothing of it. The next morning there was barely anything on the tampon and the for the last couple of days I’ve barely had any blood. If so, it’s just been light pink again and infrequently. I’ve had some mild cramping. My boobs are still quite tender which usually goes when my period starts.

Last night I used a one step cheapie. Nothing.
This morning I used a frer and after a couple of minutes got a very faint pink line. So faint it’s really hard to get a photo of it.

However I’m still spotting and every time I go to the loo I’m terrified my period is going to start.

Could the pain and spotting have been implantation bleeding?
Is a pink line, however faint, a bfp?

Any advice so welcome!

I honestly thought I had implantation bleeding last month, really got my hopes up and spotted for days. Then AF appeared, FIVE days early Sad

However I hadn’t got any kind of faint line, but only had my internet cheapies, wasn’t convinced enough at any point to bust open the FRER.

So I’m wishing you luck! It could be IB but sometimes our bodies just aren’t behaving as we expect them to- I have never had my period come early in my life before. What a rollercoaster this is!

AnaS86 · 27/12/2020 10:50

Thanks for replying, you’re right. It is such a rollercoaster!
My period was due today or tomorrow so hoping I’m close enough to that for the line to mean something...

Fingers crossed OP!

Elouera · 28/12/2020 11:09

How did you go OP? Any update today?

AnaS86 · 28/12/2020 11:40

Cramping increased yesterday afternoon/evening. Did another test before bed which was positive. However a fair amount of bleeding this morning so pretty sure it was a chemical pregnancy. Thanks for checking in. Fingers crossed for next month.

So a week on, after bleeding/spotting now for about 10 days (since what I think was initially implantation bleeding on Christmas Eve), I have tested again with a digital and it’s positive. This is all so confusing.

How much blood have you had Ana? I would recommend getting to your GP so they can do two blood tests 48 hours apart to compare the numbers.

I had bleeding before and after positive pregnancy tests and unfortunately I was ectopic. I don’t want to panic you as you may be fine but it would be good to do bloods to rule out anything sinister like this and would give you a better idea of where you stand.

Hopefully this is it! X

AnaS86 · 02/01/2021 10:17

That’s been my worry..
it’s never been heavy - always present when I wipe and for a few days it was enough to reach a pad. Only had a couple of clots on Monday.

I’ve called 111 as haven’t been feeling too great the last couple of days and a little lightheaded this morning. A clinician is going to give me a ring.

OP posts:
AnaS86 · 02/01/2021 10:18

Sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy @Chica1990 x

OP posts:
Chica1990 · 02/01/2021 12:07

Ok at least it hasn’t been too much and you are right to ring if you feel unwell, make sure you tell them about that pain. Keep an eye out for pressure in your bum/rectum pain and shoulder tip pain, if you feel those you need to get to a&e or phone an ambulance.

Let us know how it goes but I have my fingers crossed for a good outcome 🤞🏻

ChristmasJumpers · 02/01/2021 21:11

@AnaS86 did you have any clotting at all? I've had a few days of VERY light bleeding now (AF was due today but I've been spotting/bleeding since Wednesday). Yesterday I thought AF was coming on properly as the blood was dark red instead of pink/brown but I've had such a small amount of blood it nothing like MY usual AF. I usually have heavy periods so I'm really confused. I've had tiny clots since yesterday and hardly any blood at all but any I've had has been dark red.

AnaS86 · 02/01/2021 22:07

@ChristmasJumpers I had a couple of small clots on Monday with a bit more blood which is partly why it was a suspected chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage however that was pretty much it clot wise. I think the bleeding is finally stopping, after 10 days. It has been quite red but nowhere near my usual flow.

I spoke to a clinician on the phone earlier who sounded relatively positive as I haven’t had heavy bleeding at any point, few clots, I’m getting positive tests and increased pregnancy symptoms (my boobs are getting more sore and felt a little nauseous today and yesterday). She said she’s seen a lot of women with bleeding at various stages of pregnancy, including like mine.

It’s still very early tho (5 weeks Monday) and I don’t want to get too hopeful yet. Will wait a week and then test again I think. I’ll keep you posted.

How are you getting on today @AnaS86 ?

AnaS86 · 04/01/2021 09:32

Morning, thanks for checking in @Chica1990 :) Quite bad nausea actually. Really hope this isn’t just a bug. Still got sore boobs.

The plan is still to test again next weekend but wondering if I’ll hold out that long...

It is really irresponsible of whoever you spoke to to just say everything is fine. Bleeding with positive tests afterwards should be checked out. I would try and contact your local EPU and / or your GP. I wouldn't recommend leaving it until the weekend.

Like @Chica1990 I had an ectopic that started with bleeding and then positive tests. It's really important to rule that out. Conversely, I also had very heavy bleeding with my DD at about 5w and then every week until I was 17w so it could be absolutely nothing. But I wouldn't leave things yet.

AnaS86 · 04/01/2021 10:36

Ok, thanks for the advice.

To be honest the advice I’ve received so far from my own GP and from 111 has been a little inconsistent. It’s all quite confusing. I think the point of waiting another week to test was to see once and for all whether I am still pregnant and to let any residual hormone work it’s way out (if it was a CP) and also that they likely wouldn’t scan before 6 weeks in any event. The clinician at the weekend also doesn’t think I’m a risk for ectopic pregnancy due to lack of pain (in abdomen, shoulder etc)

I’ll get in touch with my GP and let you know how I get on.

OP posts:
kirinm · 04/01/2021 10:42

@AnaS86 I am pretty sure @Chica1990 had the same advice but with my ectopic, I had no pain either. It really is better to be safe than sorry and if you can refer directly to the EPU I would do. Some GPs are on the ball, others aren't. Even some EPUs are crap tbh.

AnaS86 · 05/01/2021 11:36

I’ve finally been referred to the EPU. Will let you know what happens. Still spotting today, 13 days on.

Great news. Sorry to sound so negative and pushy but having gone through it, it's always something I want people to check. Fingers crossed it's just spotting and nothing more sinister.
AnaS86 · 05/01/2021 13:09

Not at all! Just grateful to you and others for the advice :) fingers crossed....

Chica1990 · 05/01/2021 13:35

Like kimrin said to me during mine, shoulder pain is when you are rupturing and you shouldn’t wait to get to that point anyway. So I’m really glad you’re being seen!

I also only had some period like cramps during mine which was actually dulling down as time went by..

Are you still having positive pregnancy tests?

AnaS86 · 05/01/2021 15:10

I got a really strong positive this morning.

The EPU called and I’m going for a scan and bloods tmw. Wish me luck :)

LuluF91 · 05/01/2021 15:57

Oh good luck! I am going this EXACT situation and would be nice to see how things turn out for you. I had some slightly more clinical advice and not going to be referred for a scan until 8 weeks he says.

kirinm · 06/01/2021 09:20

Good luck today! I hope you get some positive news. What time is your appointment?
