Aunt Flo 4 days late but negative test?

Mikamee · 27/11/2020 17:33

I'm so confused, my period is usually like clockwork but this month it's currently 4 days late. Anyone else experienced this and it's turned out they were pregnant after all?

I wanted to reply to your post yesterday but waited to do my PT this morning to see if I'm PG..but I'm not! I got a second BFN and I'm 4 days late. So I'm in that boat with you!
I have a 26 day cycle like clock work so I put my money on pregnancy when I'm late! I'm 43 in a couple of weeks time so I'm now worried it's menopause! I've got a 14yo DD but within the last 18 months I've had 1 failed IVF, 1 MMC and 1 MC.
My lower back and hips are killing me and my boobs are so sore. I've been feeling a little off the last couple of weeks so was surprised at the BFN. In saying that, my previous BFP's came after being 6 days late and onwards but the positives came up in seconds and were dark. I would've thought because there are only 2 days before I'm 6 days late, it would at least show a faint line?
I used that CB 6 days early test so surely it shouldn't be stark white if I am PG? I'm thinking that this is a long cycle...hoping it's not menopause.
Are you testing today again?

hopingforhappiness92 · 28/11/2020 17:13

I'm 2 days late for my period too and had 3 negative tests. I've been reading a lot of posts about BFNs but no AF and the majority of the time it's just a late period. That doesn't stop me from driving myself crazy though!

Going by other threads it seems to be quite rare that people go on to have a BFP when they're in this situation.

That's not to say there's no hope you could be the exception, just to try and keep sane give it a week and see what happens. That's what I'm going to do at least.

Good luck to you ! X

Foundmyfeet · 28/11/2020 17:46

@hopingforhappiness92 - I've been reading the same posts as you too! I'm leaning towards this being a long cycle rather than resulting in a BFP now. I just hope it's not too long a cycle! I'm going to test next Friday if AF hasn't made her appearance as that will make me 10 days over.

The last time my cycle went out of kilter was when my grandmother passed away over 2 years ago but rather than a delayed or missed period, I had 2 within 7 days of each other! Hmm

@Foundmyfeet

Bless you, lots of things can affect cycle length including stress! But at the same time it's perfectly normal for you to have a cycle that's longer than others every now and then. It's just a massive pain in the bum when ttc because we psyc ourselves up so much! Normally we probably wouldn't even notice 😂

I've been taking pregnacare supplements so I'm wondering if that's had an effect on my cycle length as I've seen from others that can happen. I'm doing my best to just forget about it for now because it's too much hard work testing all the time for it to only be negative.

Foundmyfeet · 28/11/2020 20:32

@hopingforhappiness92 the stress thing is very true. I had massive anxiety over the summer but have found my feet again (hence the name of my handle Wink), and now I'm in a good place and practicing peace and harmony, so it's a bit of a surprise to me that my period is late! Who knows why? All I know is that I'm not pregnant...again! Lol!
It is disheartening to keep taking tests showing BFN's all the time.
Let's make a pact together not to test until late next week to save our sanity! Whaddya reckon?

hopingforhappiness92 · 28/11/2020 21:32

Sounds like a plan! No more testing.. in some ways I feel a bit relieved, just dropping all that expectation and worry.

What will be will be and in the meantime I'm gonna chill the f out 😅

Foundmyfeet · 28/11/2020 22:29

@hopingforhappiness92 - do you mind me asking how long you've been ttc? I've been trying for almost 3 years. I've put so much pressure on myself but decided to just put it in the hands of God/the universe now. Can't keep beating myself up about it every month.

hopingforhappiness92 · 28/11/2020 23:01

Well it's a bit of a long story really but 3 years ago we started trying and I fell pregnant the first try. I sadly had a miscarriage around 7 weeks and after that I didn't feel ready to start trying again for probably 5/6 months. I figured at the time as I'd fallen pregnant the first month we didn't have anything to worry about when it came to our fertility.

We started trying again after that but my mum had cancer and she was starting to get really sick by this point- she had a terrible time of it and no doubt the stress of it all impacted on my fertility or I least I assumed it was at the time as we weren't falling pregnant.

When she died we stopped trying altogether again as I just couldn't face it on top of the grief. So we had another break from trying but even when we weren't trying I'd started bleeding in between periods- and in the end I was convincing myself I had all sorts wrong with me even though I'd gone for checks and they couldn't find anything wrong. Anyway I ended up going on the pill for 6 months and thankfully since I've come off I haven't been bleeding in between anymore.

I've spoken to the doctors about it but because we haven't had 12 consecutive months ttc we aren't eligible for any checks or treatment yet. So now since I've come off the pill it's been 3 cycles- moving on to cycle 4 once AF decides to show up.

Sorry that was really long 🙄 haha but I just can't believe that 3 years on from that first pregnancy I still don't have a baby and it's been the only BFP I've ever had. I dunno what to do other than keep trying until docs agree to look into it more.

Foundmyfeet · 29/11/2020 19:11

@hopingforhappiness92 ah I'm sorry to hear that you've miscarried also. It's so heartbreaking and then to lose your mum..you have my deepest sympathies. Life certainly likes to throw some curveballs.
It's easy to start imagining all sorts is wrong with our bodies when it doesn't do what we want it to! And it's easy to get stressed and obsessed about it which can hinder the natural process. That's why I've handed it over and not stressing about it. What will be will be. And I know it's easy for me to say as I have a 14yo DD but she is not my husband's biological child and I would love for us to have a child together.

Aunt Flo greeted me this morning on waking up! Just wish she came when she should've so I could've saved myself a tenner on the pregnancy test!

How are you today?

hopingforhappiness92 · 29/11/2020 19:31

Yes life certainly keeps you guessing doesn't it.

Sorry to hear you started your AF. Onwards and upwards though!

I think I had a tiny bit of spotting today so I'm pretty sure AF is on its way, I thought the same too about wasting £10 on a FRER 😅.

Have you spoken to the doctors yet?

Em39ma · 29/11/2020 20:00

I’m with you too. 3 days late only getting BFN. Got sore boobs, slight cramping. No sign of AF at all.
Will wait another few days and test again.

Foundmyfeet · 29/11/2020 22:25

@hopingforhappiness92 - I've spoken with the doctors many times about my fertility. DH and I have been checked out and all is good. I've got good egg reserves for my age also so I'm thinking there has to be one good one in amongst them! I'm 43 next month so have been feeling the pressure a bit.
We had a round of IVF on the NHS because DH doesn't have any biological children and we'd been TTC for a year (I lied and told them 2 years otherwise the referral would not have been made plus I had to have it all done before turning 42 as per their regulations). I had a low dose of meds because I was high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome but still produced 5 eggs, of which 3 fertilised but 2 were good quality. So the 2 were implanted, however it wasn't a success.
3 months later I fell pregnant naturally and had an MMC. Totally broke my heart when they couldn't find the heartbeat and the process of miscarrying was a huge, painful trauma.
Then I fell pregnant at the beginning of lockdown, but I knew it didn't feel right. True enough I started spotting 2 weeks later and miscarried naturally at home. Nowhere near as traumatic as the MMC but saddened me nonetheless.
Spoke to my GP and asked if I could be referred to the miscarriage clinic but was denied one must have 3 MC's before being referred! I explained that I don't have time on my side and I don't want to have to go through another MC just for a referral. I want to know if there is something going on that I can fix with a tablet/vegetable/fruit/vitamin/extra glass of water/whatever!

@Em39ma - welcome aboard the boat! Is this your first time ttc?

hopingforhappiness92 · 29/11/2020 22:36

@Foundmyfeet wow you've had quite the rollercoaster journey then, I'm so sorry for your miscarriages😢

How did you find IVF? I'm 28 so I know I still have time, I'd just really like to have my first by the time I'm 30. I wanted to have a big family as my own is so small but now because of how long it's taking I'd be happy to just have one child.

@Mikamee hey welcome! Our bodies are so annoying aren't they nothing is ever black and white there's always maybes and possibles and it just makes it more stressful. How long have you been trying?

X

hopingforhappiness92 · 29/11/2020 22:38

@Foundmyfeet
Also I've read that baby aspirin and progesterone can be given to help prevent early miscarriage but I'm not sure if a gp can prescribe that or if you'd have to see a specialist- could be worth asking your gp anyway?

hopingforhappiness92 · 29/11/2020 22:40

Oh sorry I tagged the wrong person! @Em39ma !

@Mikamee any update?

Foundmyfeet · 29/11/2020 23:12

@hopingforhappiness92 - yes it's been a journey to say the least! And still trying to reach my destination!
I wanted a big family too so unless I'm going to have a multiple pregnancy, it's not going to happen now but you've got lots of time to squeeze them out! Lol!
I was almost 29 when I had my DD; like you I wanted to have a baby before I turned 30. In fact, I wanted one AT 30 but obviously destiny had other plans! 1 year out was not so bad Grin

For me, IVF was ok. I had heard that a lot of women struggle with the injections and also the emotions of it all but I was ok. Maybe because I had a lower dose than normal? When I was taking the progesterone pessaries, I felt a little bloated and moody but that was all. It sounded like I'd gotten off lightly by comparison.
Because of your age and that you've been ttc for less than 12 months, you probably won't be referred yet, but it's worth researching anyway because boroughs/areas have their own set of rules when it comes to funding for IVF. If you get a head start on that at least, you can then plan your next moves if you need to.
And I suppose asking the GP if you can have blood tests to check your thyroid function/iron levels/vitamin D can't hurt. He/she shouldn't deny you regardless of the length of time you've been ttc.
I've also heard about baby aspirin and I don't know if it's a coincidence but the 2 times I fell pregnant I had been taking it during the month before! However, I stopped taking them when I got my BFP so I'm thinking to continue taking them when I get my next BFP and hopefully that will sustain a healthy pregnancy. I'd spoken with my GP about it and she said that there was no medical evidence to suggest that it works but I've read it so many times from different sources where it has worked! I'm going to give it a go from tomorrow. X

SusanaDayana · 29/11/2020 23:35

Hi ladies

I am currently 3 days late, and have been testing since Friday everyday with BFN. I am honestly not surprised as with my pregnancies I only got a positive once I was over a week late. I think it is more common than people think. I hope this gives you some hope.

I have had two miscarriages at 7 weeks and two full term pregnancies. My last pregnancy I tested when I was one day late and got a BFN and then after 8 days I decided to try again with a digital clearblue one and got a BFP... here he is 9 months later (I have a 9 month old and a five year old). So now here I am again, about three days late but no sign of AF and three Negative tests. I have used the cheap Superdrug ones to First Response. I am addicted to these tests. I have decided to wait until Tuesday morning.

TMI one thing that makes me think I am pregnant is that I don't have the smell I normally get when AF is coming... not sure if any of you experience this.

My cycles have not been completely regular yet, because I have only had 4 cycles since my son was born that I have tracked but the last two are 30 and 28 days so I think I am back to my very regular cycle of 29/28 days.

I'll post any updates.

Em39ma · 30/11/2020 06:02

No not my first time try ttc. I have a 13 month old daughter. I’m 42 in January and would really love another. I’ve had 2 miscarriages too, one which was eptopic and I managed to pass it through the tube myself and another at 10 weeks in June this year.
I normally fall without trying, my first miscarriage I was on the pill.
So finding it harder this time, we started trying straight away.

hopingforhappiness92 · 30/11/2020 07:12

@SusanaDayana hey thanks for that! I had some spotting yesterday which I normally get before AF so I'm guessing she's on her way 🙄.
And I know what you mean about the smell haha it's not like it smells bad just different 🤣

@Foundmyfeet with baby aspirin I don't think it does any harm to take it so it's worth a shot? I hope for you you get a nice little Christmas BFP. That would be super cute and also means a September baby so they get to be the oldest in the school year rather than the youngest.. or do I over think these things haha?!

@Em39ma any sign of AF yet? When are you going to test?

Em39ma · 30/11/2020 08:26

I tested on Saturday was negative, if nothing turns up before I will test again on Wednesday. I normally have very high hcg. My HG normally kicks in straight away and doesn’t stop until there out.

SusanaDayana · 30/11/2020 09:00

@Em39ma I need to have your patience. I did a retest this morning. I need to wait until Wednesday now. Fingers crossed for you.

@hopingforhappiness92 I'm sorry to hear about your spotting. There is always next cycle if this is AF.

I am not sure if this is just my body still adjusting after pregnancy and starting a new workout and diet made me irregular this month. I will have to wait and see on Wednesday if AF doesn't come and I test with my last FRER test. We DTD only once on the 15th (the first day of my fertile window in my app) so it is possible I ovulated after the 19th which makes me still very early and maybe why my tests are not showing positive like my other pregnancies. The wait is killing me.

Em39ma · 30/11/2020 11:34

I’m not patient, hate seeing the negative results and peeing money away.
We are in the process of selling our house and trying to find a bigger one.

SusanaDayana · 30/11/2020 12:01

@Em39ma
I am the worst when it comes to throwing money away on these tests. I am going to bite my lip and wait until Wednesday. My app for my cycles tells me my average would mean I am due on the 3rd (this Thursday) but that would mean I have a long cycle of 33 days.

We just sold our flat and moved into a rental flat until we can find the perfect house. It is not easy these days, where we live is very competitive and expensive. I am located in Edinburgh. I have started full time University this year and have a lot on my plate. I need to know about this pregnancy because

  1. My partner doesn't know I might be and I need to break this to him if I am. (we have been using the pull out method) I won't mention it unless it's certain. No need to add on the stress of wondering as he just started a new career and has enough to deal with.
  1. I am currently doing EMS (electronic muscle stimulation) workouts that maybe dangerous when pregnant. My next session is on Friday, which I will have a clear answer by then, if tests are still negative I know I am not.

Where are you located?

Em39ma · 30/11/2020 13:25

@susanadayana We are in Basingstoke in Hampshire. Very expensive here in the middle of the commuter belt.
We are in with my parents because of lockdown (dads disabled ) made it easier because staying apart would become complicated if mum needed my help. At the moment our house is expensive storage. We have found the house we wanted, just need ours to sell.

SusanaDayana · 30/11/2020 13:29

@Em39ma Sounds like you also have a lot on your plate. I hope your house sells fast. Keep us posted on the Wednesday test.

:) babydust to all of us
