It’s that time again, the 5th post-pill thread of ladies who are experiencing the highs and lows (mainly the lows…) of coming off the pill and TTC! Here you’ll find stories of delayed ovulation, crazy long follicular phases, crazy short follicular phases, light AFs, short luteal phases, long luteal phases, confusing temp charts and blindingly white OPKs, to name a few. Join us, won’t you? We're a lovely bunch and we'd love to help you make sense of post-pill life if we can!

Moocher90 · 18/12/2020 10:37

Morning all, GP rang and was not the most sympathetic however I persisted and he said he would refer me to the thyroid doctor. My TSH is currently 3.89 but I am getting some hypo symptoms and I’m aware the tsh level presently is not good for TTC plus I’m having I’m having the most strangest cycles since coming off contraception. Also mentioned I need to go and have another blood test as one on my liver results have come back slightly abnormal. Not really sure about why my liver is playing up as I rarely drink. Hopefully on the next blood result it is back to normal. I’m ringing the surgery now to see if the results can be put on the nhs app so I can see them for myself.

Moocher90 · 18/12/2020 10:53

@Juno231 sorry to hear BFN but still not out until AF arrives.

I’m going to enjoy Xmas then jump on a health regime. May have to stop gluten and dairy :( to bring down the tsh levels! I already take a supplement of iodine and selenium as part of my daily pills.

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 11:08

Eurgh! Just had my consultation with the doctor completely fobbed off she basically said they wont do anything until its been 12 months and only the fertility clinic will treat thyroid issues that were outside of the ideal for TTC! They won’t even recheck the levels until its been a year! FFS

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 11:08

And i got the whole ‘RELAX AND IT WILL LIKELY HAPPEN NATURALLY’ 🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼

AMS19 · 18/12/2020 12:43

@ChinChilly sorry to hear this. I find GPs so hit and miss, even within the same surgery. Have you looked into private options? Hopefullt all the self fixes will do the job for you though. Got everything crossed for you xx

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 13:22

@AMS19 I didn’t expect anything more from them tbh, all those she did say there is evidence about thyroid levels been over 2.5 effecting TTC she also said your body takes a while after the pill! I’ve just gotta sit out until May time! I don’t think we could afford private the house has sucked the life out of our savings

abi555 · 18/12/2020 14:56

@LauraT94 fingers crossed for you! Let us know how your scan goes
@ChinChilly that's annoying , I hate the 'relax and it will happen'... as much as it may be true, how on earth are you supposed to switch your brain off when it's something you really want! I'm such a stress head when I want something badly and obsess easily, so that would be the worst advice for me!
@Juno231 that chart is looking ace! I admit I'm not that familiar with them being fairly new to this, but from the ones I've looked at that looks great - everything crossed for you and there's defo still time until AF arrives!
@Kay00 awwww, love that comment from your OH! Mine would be the same - just keeps telling me to stop stressing and be happy haha

I'm finding it so enlightening discovering my body again since stopping the pill. When I stopped in October I developed really REALLY bad hairloss - literally shed loads of it coming off every morning, starting panicking I was going bald - turns out I think it's a stopping-pill thing after some research and seems to have settled down thank god now. But it's weird how it affects your body in ways I never knew.
Went on it for acne originally and the whole reason I didn't stop it earlier was because i was petrified of my acne coming back (and got married in August and wanted good skin).... in a massive turn of irony my skin has never been clearer since stopping the pill which I presume is become my hormones are doing nothing right now while I wait for AF to resume - but if I'd have known that I'd have stopped it yonks ago! Never ever thought I'd be excited at the thought of acne again ahahaha...

abi555 · 18/12/2020 14:59

Also (just because there is no where else I can tell this story!) tried to reach my cervix the other day to see if I could gauge position and softness etc.... word to the wise girls, cut your nails first hahha! Had a feel about, then noticed bleeding and got SUPER excited that AF had finally arrived after 2 months of waiting... turned out had just traumatized my cervix with my nails hah! May stick to just temping and OPK's from now on!!

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 15:58

@abi555 I know, that response is so annoying. I’ve just gotta wait it out until may time now, I kinda wish I hadn’t asked about my thyroid, ignorance is bliss 😂😂.

Hilarious about the cervix scratching...I don’t check mine I’ve got no idea what I’m feeling for 😂

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 15:59

@Moocher90 wasn’t you thyroid previously 8 point something? If so it has come down significantly

TheDaydreamBelievers · 18/12/2020 18:06

@Moocher90 my liver was abnormal on one test. They said it could happen with any infection in the body anywhere, even one so minor I hadn't noticed. My levels were fine at the next check!

Moocher90 · 18/12/2020 19:16

@ChinChilly yes I done the finger prick test with let’s get checked and that’s the result that came back but my venous blood test with nhs came back lower. I have read that tsh can fluctuate with stress etc also when you do the test. In the new year I will be going gluten free to see if it brings it down further

@TheDaydreamBelievers yes I’m sure when I have my next blood test all will be well again.

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 20:05

@Moocher90 I didn’t know stress could effect it, that would make sense for me at the moment, its all abit hectic for me at the moment! I’m hoping to clean up my diet in the new year, I’m definitely going to cut down on gluten and see if I can eventually cut it out

Juno231 · 18/12/2020 20:15

@ChinChilly that's exactly what my gp was like!! She basically admitted over 2.5 isn't great for TTC but blank refused any referrals and said it'll be for the fertility clinic to sort. So crazy though as surely if this helps you get pregnant then it's cheaper than putting us through the fertility clinic rigmarole?

@Moocher90 I'm glad your go was slightly better and that you managed to get a bit of traction - hopefully this will be good for you 🤞

@abi555 lol re the cervix! I had so much hair loss this past year. I think it's finally calming down and instead I've got lots of baby hair standing up all over my head making it look crazy and spindly.

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 20:27

@Juno231 my doctor basically admitted it too!! She even said we won’t treat it in primary care but the fertility clinic probably would! My exact thoughts surely its best to sort the problem now then let it drag on for another 5-6 months! She won’t even retest my thyroid until I hit the 12 month mark! Her advice was take folic acid and relax 🙄

KGH5121 · 18/12/2020 20:31

@Nellieee I also suffered with triple and quadruple headed spots on my chin for a while after stopping the mini pill (exactly like when I was teenager)! It seems to have calmed down a little now thankfully, though still getting some on my hairline!

@ChinChilly that really sucks about the doctors! Sadly the only thing that has brought my levels down is medication. Some doctors I have seen during thyroid check ups has ended up in a battle, trying to push for an increase in meds.

Got excited a few days ago on my 30th birthday as I finally had a dark line on an OPK (not quite positive) and EWCM but sadly it went back to faint and no temp shift, got so frustrated and went back to testing once a day. BUT I've started to get dark lines again and even more EWCM so I've got my fingers crossed for a positive OPK finally!

ChinChilly · 18/12/2020 20:39

@KGH5121 my GP is refusing to do anything at the moment, let alone medication! Were your levels pretty high?

Luna57 · 18/12/2020 20:42

@Nellieee if AF stays away I’ll maybe test Christmas Eve at 14dpo. I say that now but I’ve a few FRER so I might have no control over testing in the next couple days lol. After 8 days the pains and cramps have stopped- our bodies go through some hammering does anyone even know what goes on in our bodies lol.

@LauraT94 hope your scan goes well. For some reassurance my SIL had significant bleeding through most of her pregnancy and she now has a healthy, happy 4 month old.

@abi555 I must of came off my pill around the same time as you. I didn’t notice hair lose but I did notice now much my boobs have shrunk. Totally took for granted my DDs be lucky to fill a C now. Another thing I noticed was no sign of IBS- I used to get it quite badly after certain foods or alcohol and now my stomach is fine after everything. There’s a lot of connection with the pill and crohns.

MissC07 · 18/12/2020 21:25

@Luna57 Totally agree with you re the IBS! I used to have horrendous stomach problems but ever since I've come off the pill in mid November I've not had a single flare up. Although now I've gone the other way and am constipated Confused
Feeling a bit weird today as this is usually my pill free week where I'd have my withdrawal bleed, but no AF yet. I feel like a ticking time bomb!

abi555 · 19/12/2020 09:35

@Luna57 and @MissC07 ooooh, I really hope the same happens for me! Have terrible IBS normally, and come to think of it have been a bit better recently - I'm going to keep track now as hadn't even considered that the two could be linked!

abi555 · 19/12/2020 09:38

Has anyone that is waiting for AF after stopping the pill had a random bit of spotting that you think is going to turn into a period (enough to need a light tampon) that then disappears within about 6 hours and now no signs of AF again?
I'm confused as had this yesterday and now nothing - definitely no AF in sight. Got so excited and happy yesterday morning seeing it as well so its a bit of a bummer. Is it just my body trying and failing to have a period? Trying to see the positives that at least something happened....

ChinChilly · 19/12/2020 09:56

@abi555 I had brown discharge on and off before my AF arrived!

I hope these seven seas tablets aren’t playing with my cycles I would of normally had atleast a high reading by now 🤔

Juno231 · 19/12/2020 09:59

@abi555 hoping that's implantation spotting for you!

@ChinChilly your CD15 reading looks good, wouldn't be surprised if that turns into a peak tomorrow? Def test more times today!

Nellieee · 19/12/2020 10:02

@abi555 I spotted for five days before AF came. I put it down as spotting as like you, barely needed a tampon. Was usually in the morning. Hopefully she's on her way. And lolz at cutting your nails for cervix checking. I can never seem to reach mine.

@Juno231 any updates today?

@Moocher90 @ChinChilly sorry to hear your drs appointments weren't great. As others say, it seems to be so hit and miss depending on areas. Any signs of ovulation @ChinChilly?
