It’s that time again, the 5th post-pill thread of ladies who are experiencing the highs and lows (mainly the lows…) of coming off the pill and TTC! Here you’ll find stories of delayed ovulation, crazy long follicular phases, crazy short follicular phases, light AFs, short luteal phases, long luteal phases, confusing temp charts and blindingly white OPKs, to name a few. Join us, won’t you? We're a lovely bunch and we'd love to help you make sense of post-pill life if we can!

@ChinChilly well I’m in awe of your will power 😂 and you’ll most likely know for definite when you do test which is good and hopefully it’ll be such a strong bfp by then ☺️🤞🏻

@MintGreenLife that’s good! Hopefully it continues to be a really smooth pregnancy ☺️

crabette · 02/12/2020 18:55

So according to Natural Cycles, I’m confirmed 6DPO...

But, Fertility Friend hasn’t given me crosshairs.

I really think I might be on an anovulatory one this cycle - it’s been so so different to others, and I can’t pinpoint an ovulation really. Temp has been pretty low throughout notwithstanding the odd spike, and no positive LH. I did start pregnacare at last AF, which it does say on the box can change your cycle - maybe it has been that.

Anyway, I’m at CD24 today, and noticed some pinkish brown discharge on wipe - which I’d be more excited about if my temp wasn’t as low as 36.18.

I can’t decide if I’m willing AF to appear, or if I should be treating my body as if it hasn’t ovulated yet and it might still happen 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m on a Dolly Downer just now, as not good news about my grandmother unfortunately, but thanks all for the wishes! Hope you guys are all doing ok.

@TheDaydreamBelievers My heart is absolutely breaking for you.

@AMS19 - Willing your little bean to catch up and for the bleeding to stop!

@ChinChilly - I am CONVINCED you are BFP 😂 Don't know how you're doing the not testing, I am in awe!

And @Kay00 - Get DTD! 😂 Definitely looks like no ovulation yet, but imminent imminent!

Emmgrem · 02/12/2020 19:01

@Nellieee oooh we're the same! I came off the pill on 1st Nov too! Twins! 🎉

I got a normal withdrawal bleed 5 days later, no confirmed ovulation either with my temps but I had some weird ov signs really early after withdrawal bleed and then AF arrived early on CD18 which makes me the odd one out as everyone else seems to have had to wait ages for their first one! Still can't decide if it's a good or bad thing tbh!
Now CD8 of my first proper cycle and patiently waiting for some positive OPKs next week. Temps are all over the place though and really high which is a bit odd for the follicular phase.

Are you tracking temps on FF?

ChinChilly · 02/12/2020 19:03

@Cams50 I think that is another reason why I’m holding off on the testing, when I test I want it to show a clear result one way or the other

@crabette I don’t know where it has come from because I am normally SO impatient, sorry to hear its not good news for your grandmother, sending virtual hugs! ❤️

@MintGreenLife glad your having a smooth ride so far, hope it stays that way!

Nellieee · 02/12/2020 19:07

@MissC07 ahhh good effort! Defs need to ramp up DTD to at least every other day. My boyfriend is a bit oblivious and just thinks that now I'm off the pill, we'll get pregnant straight away 🙄

@Emmgrem oh fab. Here's to our periods starting soon! Don't often say that. How long were you on the pill from. I've been on and off for about 16 years with occasional breaks for a year or two in between. Which is quite scary when I think about it. They always came back normally in the break, but then again, I was TTC then so probs welcomed any delays back then.

Kay00 · 02/12/2020 19:25

@crabette sorry about your nan 😔 its possible the stress is delaying your ovulation as I read that can happen.

I am CD25 and haven't ovulated yet (although its hopefully imminent) and last cycle I didn't ovulate until CD35! So don't count yourself out yet!

Nellieee · 02/12/2020 19:26

@Emmgrem I have just reread your message 🤦🏽‍♀️ got so excited we were pill twins I didn't read properly and assumed you'd be waiting for AF!! Amazing it came back so quickly. Defs a good thing to know it's all ticking along properly.

Not doing temps (don't even know where to start with that and feel like I already know too much to obsess about)!! May do it though. Was thinking of taking Angus castus too (I can't be the only one who thought it was Angus cactus?! 🌵). Hopefully your temps and OPKs are headed the right direction.

LauraT94 · 02/12/2020 19:34

@crabette I reckon you still might ovulate with a temp that low! Hopefully your body makes its mind up soon. And I'm really sorry about your grandmother ❤️

I feel like I'm out of the running this cycle 😩😢 having AF cramps at 9dpo and my cervix feels low and hard. Mehhhhhh

MissC07 · 02/12/2020 20:27

@Nellieee join the club! My boyfriend is also oblivious (although really keen on having a child) and thinks I'm clearly already pregnant after a few DTD sessions.... I think they need to spend a few evenings on MN to see it's not that simple 🙃 I'm also not temping or OPK's yet, but I know I'll probably end up doing them after a few months! Good luck with waiting for AF, I'm already hating not knowing when it'll happen!! 😂

Kay00 · 02/12/2020 20:36

@laurat94 don't feel too despondent about having a low hard cervix at 9dpo... honestly your cervix can give no indication that your pregnant or not. Its true your cervix climes to a high position when pregnant but that doesn't happen for weeks.

Cramps at 9dpo could be the start of AF or could be something more exciting 🤞🤞

LauraT94 · 02/12/2020 21:57

@Kay00 thanks ❤️ I like the positive thinking! Just got to wait and see (is that the motto of TTC haha? Should be!)

Juno231 · 02/12/2020 22:26

@MintGreenLife omg I only just saw the dye stealer! I'm so pleased it's going well for you!

MintGreenLife · 03/12/2020 08:24

@Juno231 ☺️😘

Kay00 · 03/12/2020 08:38

Morning ladies. I have had my thyroid test results back... and I need your help @MintGreenLife @Juno231. I have attached a pic, but essentially my TSH level is 3.79, within normal but a bit on the high side for TTC? Am I right? Oh dear... what do I do next? (apart from a lot of Googling)!

Post Pill TTC - Party Hard with a Vengeance
MintGreenLife · 03/12/2020 08:51

Morning @Kay00 :) has everything else come back normal otherwise? I.e no raised antibodies? If so then you don't have thyroid disease, instead what you have is essentially subclinical hypothyroidism. My TSH when I initially had it tested a few months ago was 3.51, and then more recently 2.51. The ideal for TTC and pregnancy is under 2.5, and actually my local endocrinology department like it to be under 3.7 for pregnancy. Because mine wasn't above the range for pregnancy, I never felt like I could go back to the GP to see if something could be done about it, but as yours is (although the recommended levels may be different in your area?!) you may be able to approach the GP about it. It's possibly not even a big deal, but I did feel better for getting mine down and knowing I wasn't knocking on the upper range for a safe pregnancy. How do you feel? xx

Sperr · 03/12/2020 08:51

Hi everyone sorry been gone for a while- super busy at the new job!

@TheHotelCalifornia congratulations great start to the thread 💖💖💖

@AMS19 hope everything is going good with your little bean? Xxx

This month because I’m settling into my new job I’ve gone completely basic! No OPK or temping! I have still got my fit bit on so looking at my RHR every now and then. We’re DTD every other day. Hopefully for another 28 day cycle 😂. CD20 Here So not a lot to report! Hope everyone is well and starting to feel festive xxx

MintGreenLife · 03/12/2020 08:52

@Kay00 also happy to share with you what I did that I believe helped lower mine, although couldn't be sure, but surely isn't all a coincidence! x

Kay00 · 03/12/2020 09:08

@MintGreenLife That would be a really great thank you. Perhaps my obsession with dairy needs to come to an end Sad lol.

I have booked an appointment with my doctor to talk about it, because:

  1. I feel my TSH levels are on the high side and I don't want to risk pregnancy complications and miscarriage (my mum and sister both had Pre-Eclampsia too in pregnancy, so that worries me).
  2. I'm 35 and have been actively trying for 5 months (although off the pill closer to 7 months, so i might just say i have been trying for 6 months).
  3. Hypothyroidism might explain some of the very strange illness I had about 2 years ago that involved a lot of painful joints and tingling in my back, fingers, toes etc. My doctor and I discussed doing a thyroid test at the time but I was like ... nah! (I was seeing a lot of specialists at the time). Perhaps my levels were even higher back then??

@sperr hello my dear! How is the job going?

MintGreenLife · 03/12/2020 09:17

@Kay00 aww, well through my research I found the main thing that can cause TSH to be higher is gluten, even if you have the slightest sensitivity. So since I found my TSH was 3.5, as you know I cut out gluten and dairy, and I also took a daily selenium supplement as it's meant to help lower TSH.

I think your plan sounds very sensible and well worth getting the ball rolling with the fact you've almost been TTC for 6 months. Interesting that we had similar cycle issues too - late ovulation and short LP, as well as highish TSH. My mum had pre-eclampsia with me and had to be induced early, so I'll definitely be telling my midwife this! I want to discus my TSH too, but at the mo I've not even spoken to anyone as the system here is that you leave a voicemail and just wait for a referral letter, so I'm just waiting around at the mo!

LauraT94 · 03/12/2020 09:33

@Kay00 I know nothing about TSH levels but it sounds like @MintGreenLife is the lady with the all the helpful advice! Hopefully you find the answer to lowering it 🤞🏻

@Sperr ooh you quite often see people get BFPs the month they relax a bit on the monitoring etc 😜 good luck! Hope you're enjoying your new job.

So after feeling like AF was coming last night, my temps gone up again (highest this cycle) and my RHR has shot up too! Who knows what's going on 😂 10dpo today and I was clever and managed to avoid testing today!! Will try and avoid tomorrow too and do an FRER on Saturday if AF still hasn't arrived.

@MintGreenLife yes, that is very interesting! Very similar in many ways. I have been eating 3 x Brazil nuts a day for selenium but i'll look into taking a supplement if it could have a genuine benefit. And I start researching a gluten free diet.

I have a doctors appointment (virtual) booked for 2pm+ tomorrow, so i'll try to mention all my concerns, hopefully they will suggest another blood test?

MintGreenLife · 03/12/2020 09:41

@Kay00 I imagine they will most likely want to do their own blood test. Let us know how it goes! xx

Kay00 · 03/12/2020 11:44

Will do @MintGreenLife. Out of interest, how long were you on your reduced gluten diet before you saw your TSH level come down? And did you cut gluten out entirely?

On the plus side I had another temp rise today (to 36.4) and my OPKs are back to negative so i'm happy that I have ovulated on CD24 or 25. So i'm either 1 or 2 DPO Smile

Kay00 · 03/12/2020 11:46
