Good morning everyone. Im new to this group. Read through the thread and you all seem so lovely and knowledgeable!

I have an almost 2 year old and we are ready to start trying for number 2. I am currently CD2 and my cycle varies between 25-28days normally. We really want to TTC this month but I've just weighed myself and my BMI is 30.2

I was lucky that first time around with my son we weren't actively trying but weren't avoiding either and it happened quite quickly but I'm nearly 34 and my BMI is much higher than it was first time round. Im not expecting it to be a quick process.

However my question is whether I should try and wait and lose some weight or go for it anyway and try to lose whatever weight I can before it happens? We'd really love 2 close in age. If I got pregnant this month, would that be bad with my weight? I read that with a BMI over 30 you should take higher dose of folic acid available on prescription. I've been taking pregnacare conception tablets for the past few weeks so I've been getting folic acid, just not the higher dose.

Do any of you ladies have advice please?

CookieMonster3001 · 18/01/2021 12:19

Morning ladies, hope you are all well and had a good weekend.

4DPO here. No symptoms, which is to be expected because I wouldnt even be pregnant yet! I have had some cramping since ovulation and today I have been getting some jabbing pains in my boobs but thats about it. BBT temps seem to be on the low side. Normally it would have shot up to 36.6/36.7 by now but its lingering around at 36.5. Still eating my pineapple even though its going brown but I don't want to chuck it lol, only got one more day of it left!

@sunflowersaremyfav93 thank you my lovely! I am already counting down the days until I can test, but really gonna try and hold off for as long as possible. I am feeling really nervous in this TWW. Scared I am going to get a negative, but also scared I am going to get a positive. 2 weeks! Gosh that has come round quick!! Fingers crossed for you!!

@mackjm20 how are you getting on? I wouldnt worry too much about the fluctuations in your chart, mine tend to go up and down all the time, I dont think you will be able to detect a pattern that shows a BFN or a BFP until it comes close to AF and your BBT either stays the same or goes up (mine did when got BFP) or it plummets (when you get a BFN and AF is on its way). Not too sure about the OPKs though as I have always stopped after ovulation! The month I fell, I also wasnt sure if I did have implantation bleeding or not, but at 9DPO I got creamy CM which was really yellowy coloured, and I think this might have been implantation. 2 days after I got my BFP. I think I have come down with a bit of a cold as well, cant stop sneezing and feel generally meh! How long do you have now before you test?

@potterurotter how are you getting on? I also took folic acid as soon as I stopped the pill (about a year and a half ago) and I have also started taking vit D tablets.

@clouless glad you are doing well, hope the tummy pains ease off!

@melissa112 Welcome to the group!! I dont have any specific advice for your situation I am afraid, however I think if it was me, I would start TTC straight away as you never really know how long it will take, alongside actively trying to lose some weight. There are quite a few people in this group who are trying to lose some lbs while also trying to concieve. I am one of them!! In regards to the folic acid, I am not too sure, but it might be worth taking the higher dose if you feel it will help? Hopefully it cant do any harm.

Potterurotter · 18/01/2021 13:53

Hi @CookieMonster3001 I am good thanks, is this your first time ttc? I will get some vitamin d Thankyou Smile hoping for a period soon so I can have a baseline for knowing about my ovulation, it’s been years since I had one as was on the implant. I got the strips yesterday which was negative as to be expected but wanted to give it a go anyways! Also getting the fertility lubricant thing delivered today that has really good reviews so fingers crossed!

mackjm20 · 18/01/2021 13:55

@melissa112 welcome:) I think the advice is to have a healthy bmi!l however me personally my bmi is just 30 now (currently dieting whilst ttc). I have been taking a regular dose of folic acid and assume if I need a higher one they will tell me once I’ve conceived :) this is our 5th cycle so me personally I’m glad we started whilst I’m losing weight as it has made me more focused to do so and also it has shown me it doesn’t always happen straight away anyway :) I think in an ideal scenario perfect would be to do it first but I know a lot of people in here have been trying to reduce the bmi whilst ttc rightly or wrongly :)

@CookieMonster3001bless you sounds like you are where I was with the pineapple haha! Hope you are feeling less crampy etc soon :) 4dpo eek exciting! How do you feel? 9dpo for me today no noticeable symptoms at all. I also feel like af is on her way I’m going to test tomorrow but am not thinking it will be positive:) I’m okay though gives me 3 weeks until my next ovulation to hammer the weight loss again :) I’ve had no cm at all even though I check everytime I pee haha! Xx

CookieMonster3001 · 18/01/2021 14:33

@Potterurotter yep this is cycle 4 trying for my first. I got pregnant in Dec but unfortunately miscarried at 6 weeks so this is my first cycle post mc! Keeping my fingers crossed.
Looking for your baseline is defo the best thing you can do. I tracked my ovulation through opks and bbt for about 3 months before we properly started trying which really helped me pinpoint ovulatio accurately. Of course after the mc thats now all gone out the window but never mind lol. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

@mackjm20 9dpo is still early!! Im alkost certain 9dpo is the day I implanted and its the most common day for implantation. Fingers crossed for you lovely! Hope we both get out bfp this month!

Potterurotter · 18/01/2021 14:53

I’m so sorry @CookieMonster3001 Flowers my fingers and toes are crossed for you xx

mackjm20 · 18/01/2021 22:01

@CookieMonster3001 thank you lovely fingers crossed :) roll on tomorrow morning lol! Will be so good to just know either way :) xxx

mackjm20 · 19/01/2021 05:53

Morning all :) 10dpo BFN. After the initial disappointment and wave of sadness I feel so relieved the tww is over it honestly is the most hideous time! Just wish the BFN was 1dpo not after 10 days of obsessing haha! Atleast my mind can focus on work again now :) Anyway realised this gives me until the 7th of Feb to lose as many lbs as poss before another 2 weeks of pineapple, fluffy socks and green smoothies haha! On the plus side going to keep up dry jan and just keep getting myself as healthy as possible going into cycle 6 :) may even get some pre-seed as I’m sure someone mentioned that was really good and at this stage I’m quite literally trying everything you girls are suggesting :) if someone told me to eat a cactus or that hand stand sex causes the best results I would probably do it haha- or in the case of the handstand try lol! thanks for being the most amazing support network :) xx

CookieMonster3001 · 19/01/2021 10:50

@Potterurotter thank you!

@mackjm20 oh no so sorry to hear about your BFN! When is AF due? you may still have some time? I know what you mean though about the TWW being over, honestly its torture! We have our period, wait two weeks for ovulation then we ovulate and we wait two weeks for a positive, honestly TTC is such pain in the arse sometimes! All worth it though when we see that BFP!

My temps have gone up again today which is good! Bit of a slow rise this month, but prob cus of the mc tbh! I don't really wanna get too excited, but having similar symptoms to when I fell pregnant last time. I keep getting shooting pains in my boobs, I have been cramping pretty much every single day since ovulation and my CM has not dried up. Its been very wet with a combination of creamy CM down there (sorry TMI!). The cramping is usual for me, but I don't really tend to get breast pain in between ovulation and period apart from my last cycle. I know I wont have even implanted yet, but TWW does crazy things to ones mind!

Found a cool website that tells you exactly what happens in your body during the TWW. 5DPO today and it says that the blastocyst will now be in the uterus free floating. At the end of today, its protective coating will start to dissolve ready for it to implant. The endometrial lining continues to thicken and will start making crypts ready for implantation.

I love sciency stuff! Such a nerd!

On another note, has anyone been watching surgeons cut on Netflix? The first episode was about fetal medicine and was honestly so incredible what science can do these days!!

mackjm20 · 19/01/2021 11:25

@CookieMonster3001 thank you :) it’s such a repetitive cycle isn’t it! Ah I am keeping everything crossed for you lovely really really hope it happens this month for you :) that all sounds really positive :) my mind feels so free today that’s the only bonus lol! :) I haven’t seen it but will give it a watch at the weekend :) xxx

mackjm20 · 20/01/2021 07:45

Morning girls bbt and heart rate has dropped simultaneously this morning and I can tell AF is coming a couple of days early by my skin and generally how I feel I know it’s coming today :) just thought it was worth noting that HRT is defo another good one to watch and if you have a Fitbit it’s so easy to track :) feels good that next month it’ll have a baseline for hrt/ bbt and opks that I can mark against :) on to cycle 6 and 3 weeks of getting that bmi closer to healthy :) Happy Wednesday xx

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 20/01/2021 15:21

Hey ladies

Ah I'm sorry @mackjm20 like you said though you will be well equipped for next month! And you still never know, you're not out until AF arrives I say!

@CookieMonster3001 How are you? Those symptoms sound like a good sign. Fingers and toes crossed for you!

So update from me - we have decided to put the house on the market now, the plan was to wait a bit longer but I've seen some lovely new builds... the plan was always to move pre baby to move closer to my parents but after we had a call with our mortgage broker and it all actually happening I'm starting to think are we crazy for starting TTC and putting the house on all in one go?

On the one hand I'm thinking I might not fall for a while, with the uterus issue I am at much higher risk of MC so why wait?

On the other hand I'm thinking am I loading ok loads of stress?

So my thinking is where I was like super on it with TTC we're going to NTNP more than hardcore TTC... I say this now but may feel differently when I get I Feb's ovulation.

What would you do?

OP posts:
CookieMonster3001 · 20/01/2021 15:32

@mackjm20 oh no lovely! but you are right, you defo know what you are looking for, and if it helps... I had been tracking OPKS temps DTD at the right time and still it took 3 months to conceive. Now that you know what you are looking out for, you can know that you are doing everything you possibly can each month! Keeping my fingers crossed you get your BFP soon!

@sunflowersaremyfav93 I am good thanks, trying not to think too much about it but defo easier said than done. I am noticing very similar symptoms to last cycle, but I don't want to get ahead of myself and end up disappointed. Last night I had the worst restless legs that I haven't had in ages (I used to get them a lot), so that's a new one. I have been having a lot of insomnia recently and generally struggling to get to sleep. Still getting stabbing pains here and there, its been on my left side today, back is aching, feel like I am getting a cold and my nipples keep having stabbing pains too. Only 6DPO so still a while before I can test. I am already thinking I wanna test at 9DPO lol.

Personally I would just go with the flow. You may find that you are so overwhelmed with the move, that you may not put so much pressure on yourself to TTC and it happens naturally! So many people say that when they take the focus away from it, it just seems to happen. I think only you will know if its too much stress for you, but I would give it a go in the first instance and see how you feel. You can always hold back or cool off TTC if it is too much all in one go, but if you can manage it, I would do both! Like you said, you may not fall straight away

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 20/01/2021 17:17

@CookieMonster3001 Sounds very promising but you're totally right, can't get excited. It's absolutely awful not being able to sleep, have you tried any herbal teas or pillow mist? I find the sleepy tea from Sainsburys helps me.. not sure if it's psychological though.

You're right and knowing what I'm like, I get on with things, I can handle it all. I just let myself get over worried about money that's the main thing for me. It's not anything else about moving. I keep thinking will we be ok and and my OH thinks I'm crazy worrying about money. Does anybody know if on Mat leave we pay student loan and tax? My firms policy is 3 months full pay and 40% for the remaining 9 months. I was trying to work out if that would be 40% inc tax and loan.

This sounds like a stream of my thoughts, I have nobody else to chat to about it. I don't want to tell any of my friends about our plans and I don't want to talk to my mum or MIL about our plans either it's hard sometimes because I am such a sharer.

OP posts:
CookieMonster3001 · 20/01/2021 18:31

@sunflowersaremyfav93 i have a lavender spray I use which is good.

Im not too sure about the tax tbh but its a good point as I would need to think about that too! You have always got us to talk to, thats why I love this group so much. I cant really talk to anyone irl either as my parents and in laws dont know nor do any of my friends.

mackjm20 · 20/01/2021 18:54

@CookieMonster3001 thanks so much :) AF just arrived 4 days early I just knew it was coming but like you said glad I know what I’m looking for next cycle :) desperate for wine and choc butttt keeping my mind focused on the weight loss :) keeping everything crossed for your bfp :)

@sunflowersaremyfav93 thank you :) that wicked witch af just arrived but im all good and prepped for cycle 6 :) ah that’s exciting about the house :) I would say go with the flow as it can take a while anyway and even if not you would hopefully be all moved before baby arrives :) with the ntnp having tried it myself I think the amount we know about ttc makes it almost impossible tbh. I’m not sure about the tax but always here for a chat :) Totally get your concern maybe ask your mortgage adviser to go through your outgoing and sense check your budget for you :) that’s what I do for my clients :) I feel exactly the same about only really wanting to share here it’s such an amazing group xx

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 20/01/2021 19:08

@CookieMonster3001 This group really is the best!!

@mackjm20 Ah she arrived! I really thought you'd end up with a surprise. You're spot on though, I know when I ovulate and I always get ovulation pains so I'll be like let's DTD!! Tbh I save pretty much most of my disposable income anyway even more so since COVID the mortgage adviser was going through stamp duty, sols fees and estate agents fees and it just felt all like in my face you know? Are you a mortgage adviser?

Hey guys, just checking in.

Sorry to see your update @mackjm20 😔 hopefully next cycle is the one. We'll done for staying strong regarding weightloss.

@CookieMonster3001 Fingers crossed for you for a few days time 🤞.

@sunflowersaremyfav93 That's exciting news about moving 😊. Have you got a specific plot/new build in mind already?

Curiosity101 · 20/01/2021 19:15

I'm 6+2 today and feeling utterly miserable. A combination of pregnancy hormones, seriously bad morning sickness (I'm on medication for it) and also I'm constantly spotting. I just don't feel like I can cope with this 😔.

I had a scan yesterday to check on the baby and the baby seems fine. It also has a good strong heartbeat. I just wish I didn't feel like death 😔.

princesscallie · 20/01/2021 19:18

Can i join this thread please? We have decided to try for our 3rd baby. My girls are 7 and 5 so it's been a while. Any tips or advice would be appreciated?

Kayeyeem · 20/01/2021 19:28

@princesscallie I'm also hoping to join this thread and we're also trying for our 3rd. I have 2 boys who are 5 and 2 🙂

Ah fab! How are you feeling? How long have you been trying?

mackjm20 · 20/01/2021 19:58

@Curiosity101 thank you :) oh no bless you so sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. Fab news that the scan went well but hope you are feeling much better soon :)

@princesscallie @Kayeyeem welcome x

@sunflowersaremyfav93 yea she came early I wasn’t due on until Saturday slightly concerned as my app is telling my my luteal phase was too short at 11 days I’m hoping that next month my cycle goes back to its normal length as now I’m googling how to extend luteal phase. Seems like vitamin c and oranges are now added to this weeks shopping list lol! Oh bless you it can be a little intense but it sounds like you are doing all the right things savings wise :) I am yea :) xx

Kayeyeem · 20/01/2021 20:07

@princesscallie This is our 1st month trying. AF is currently 2 days late and I have some symptoms but there's no point testing just yet as I have a history of tests not working for me until at least 2 weeks late 😣 The wait is excruciating though!
How about you?

@mackjm20 Thank you 😊
