Ladies, random one, do any of you know how long you'd need to be working in a job for before getting maternity pay? I am so fed up of my current job and have applied for some but curious to know...

Minster2012 · 30/10/2020 22:53

@Franklydear it was good actually. Not exactly testing on the brain (just what i needed tbh) but good.

@Kirky658 I think it depends on the company, my husband seems to think it's 6 months (running our company you'd think he would know but no would be the answer to that) but I would say a year.

Sausage1990 · 30/10/2020 23:25

@minster2012 @vil10 unfortunately for me I'm having my pork dinner tomorrow instead because the cramps and bleeding has been pretty rough this evening. It did come to a head about half 9 when I thought I was going to be sick or faint or both and then I passed alot of clots (sorry tmi) and it all settled. Hopefully that's good news. So with one thing or another my appetite is off so OH just brought me fruit bread toast & tea 👍🏻

@Franklydear why are men so stupid sometimes?! Like what in earth would posses them to eat gone off food?! I don't know any women who would do that even with peer pressure. Bonkers! 🙄

@minster2012 oh my mam watched Rebecca the other day and said it was good. She also recommend a The Trial of the Chigaco 7... Apparently its really good. It has Eddie Redmayne in it so I'll probably watch it simply for that as i have always liked him 😍 you can see my plans for my weekend in lockdown are sorted.

@lucyrp how are you getting on in our lovely Wales wide lockdown?? Hope you're having in there and not going to crazy stuck indoors because of the shocking weather ☔

Minster2012 · 30/10/2020 23:44

@Sausage1990 fingers crossed that's the worst of it over for you then🤞🏻pork can wait - I shall note down the trial of the Chicago 7 too thank you, always looking for more things to watch...especially now 😬🙄with not many places to go

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 00:10

@Sausage1990 yess I'm hanging in on here! I was trying to get out walking more this week but the weather is gross so thag hasn't happened. Got the weekend off with OH and well probs do nothing again 🤣 how about you ? Hope you're doing okay 💓

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 06:20

@Sausage1990 glad it’s getting better, and you have your yummy meal for today ready
They haven’t reach manhood, that I made clear to both of them yesterday
Noting all the nice things to watch @Minster2012
@lucyrp hang in there, for the crappy weather I got too many sweets and cakes, yesterday ds made us watch captain underpants hackaween episode, I’ll be a lot on here today with that quality tv...
It looks like we are also heading for a lockdown, the papers seem to know more than the ministers..., I am a bit worried as we never closed the first time around and even if shielding was available, that was bad too

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 06:42

@Franklydear I had a bit of a mad moment last night and went to buy loads of sweets as I just couldn't stop thinking about them 😂 was even in my pjs and my mouth was watering thinking about it. Tried to bribe my best friend to go and get some and drop them off but she wasn't having any of it so I'm the end I had to get dressed and go. 🤣

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 06:54

Well @lucyrp this weekend, sweets are essential, I’ve been adding them to my online weekly shop, I will now start to do it with Xmas bits.... I can’t be bother to go into shops, the couple of times I had to go in, forgot my lunch, it was step in, grab a sandwich, scan it out, go, 35 seconds max

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 07:10

Hmm, if the lockdown is announced I’ll need to knock on my next door neighbour every so often, she confided a few weeks ago how low and in a dark place she got in the last one....
Just rambling, dh woke me up when he went to work and I can’t get back to sleep, as you were...

Kirky658 · 31/10/2020 07:10

@minster2012 thanks hun. I was looking on the gov.uk website but it really is confusing! Looks like if I've worked there for 6 months before baby is born I'd be entitled to it... I have actually been offered an interview for a job next week but I'm scared to go now as we are TTC!

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 07:11

@Kirky658 go, as far as you start before your pregnant, you’ll be fine, I thought it was 6 months before you went on maternity leave

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 07:26

@Franklydear definitely, I need to go food shopping today 😴

Vil10 · 31/10/2020 08:26

@Sausage1990 I hope you start to feeling better soon, and I'm glad your OH is taking care of you!

Cannot believe I'm reading on sky news that there might be another lockdown, it's bullshit I'm sorry, they exaggerate the stats to scare monger, and I am sorry in advance if this may offend anyone but I think the whole thing is a load of shit!! Saturday morning rant over!

What's everyone got planned for today?x

dippyegg32 · 31/10/2020 09:00

Morning everyone. 5dpo for me and zero symptoms. Nada. Anyone else testing on Friday?

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 09:10

@Vil10 omg I'm so with you. So fed up of it all. They keep saying it's going to be around for years so they can't keep shutting us inside. We've just come to the end of week 1 in welsh lockdown and the list of jobs we can do at work has already been completed. Stuff we shouldn't even be doing such as filling and sanding walls and painting. I'm a cafe assistant not a decorator. We've done all the maintenance we can on the building and now we might have to come to work for another 5 weeks to sit around doing nothing all day. It's a joke 😴

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 09:10

@Vil10 I am very worried, but I am vulnerable and winters are never easy for me, I work in the postal system , so we’ll be open and still going on public transport, I don’t want to shield again so I don’t know how to feel, I hope you ladies will hold my hand cos I’ll need it in the next few weeks

For today is a diet of sweets, cake and Halloween movies, I am trying to get ds to watch the Adams family🤪🤦🏼‍♀️

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 09:11

@lucyrp that’s also terrible with your work

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 09:14

@Franklydear it's so annoying, and the thing is I work in the most vulnerable sector of the business. The other 90% will be fine but we work in travel and tourism/hospitality and the need for that at the moment is minimal. So who knows they might even close us 🤷🏼‍♀️ and then il be jobless

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 09:19

@lucyrp it is so worrying for so many people, lots of my friends are waiting to hear about redundancies and others are self employed, so they really need to work, luckily we won’t close in any circumstances, but I worry the last two winters were pretty bad and had quite a bit of time off, this won’t make it any better.

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 09:22

I don’t know what the answer is, Spain is in a similar situation and Gov also making a pig sty of it, they are having very similar debates in sm

Vil10 · 31/10/2020 09:24

@lucyrp oh god that's a joke!! They can't keep doing this every few months for the next couple of years!! I can imagine work not being that fun at the minute for you, it's not fair!! I was on furlough from 23rd March to the beginning of September and it was awful!! I can't cope with that again!

@Franklydear oh I completely understand people who are vulnerable or the elderly being wary of it and not knowing what to do! Hand hold here for you! Oooo that day sounds lovely!!x

lucyrp · 31/10/2020 09:27

@Franklydear my job is much more secure than it was this time last year but still not thag secure in the grand scheme of things but then again no ones really is is it ...

@Vil10 I was "furloughed" from the 23rd too until 31st July but throughout that time I was getting paid full pay by the company and I still had to go in to work to try and make myself busy so the big bosses can justify paying us. My mental health is actually the best its been for a good few years but by god its hard keeping your head above the water when this is happening 😬

Vil10 · 31/10/2020 09:29

So my OH is usually so chilled and laid back and when I'm panicking about TTC he's always the one telling me to calm down, having a brew this morning and he goes "I think we're going to have to have help to have a baby aren't we, I thought we'd be pregnant by now, and I just think if we aren't by now we won't be when we get to the year mark" 😭 I've explained to him that so many people take a long time and there's nothing wrong with them, his best friends took 9 month to conceive his second goddaughter, I reminded him of that and he was like yeah I suppose, but this is the first time really he's showed any worry or anything, I don't want him to feel the emotion I do every month!!

Franklydear · 31/10/2020 09:36

@Vil10 oh no, I would panic a lot more every month if dh didn’t roll his eyes at me on the tww, and bought chocolate and wine when af shows...

Mrsbear1122 · 31/10/2020 09:37

@Kirky658 on gov.uk, it says you need to have worked 26week continuing into the qualifying week (15th week before week of due date) so that means you will only be eligible for SMP if you got pregnant after starting the job (26+15=41weeks). You'll get maternity leave but will not get SMP, but can apply for maternity allowance. Hope that makes sense!
