Hi

I have been trying for over a year and have had my first consultation with the fertility clinic last week. AF was due Thursday and hasn’t showed up and I haven’t had my usual pre af spotting. I am terrified to test I don’t know why I think I don’t want to be disappointed. Has anyone else felt like this. I was think of waiting until I’m a week late would this cause any harm if it were to be a bfp how quickly should you get in touch with your doctor if I were to be pregnant what is the first steps?

Test! You're late so test! You probably don't need to contact your GP - most areas are self referral to the midwife. If you are pregnant look at the NHS website for foods to avoid. I hope its a positive test

BabyMoonPie · 19/10/2020 10:23

And whether you test or not makes no difference to if you're pregnant or not! The waiting is the hard bit but you are several days late so it's reasonable to put yourself out of your misery

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/10/2020 10:29

Test!

Do you know when you ovulated?

Waiting4another · 19/10/2020 10:29

As long as you avoid alcohol, smoking and the foods that you should not be having in pregnancy, and as long as you are taking folic acid (and iron), you should be fine not testing and not finding out until you are ready to.
It is reasonable to not want to be disappointed, especially if you have been trying for a while, stress can cause AF to be late too...
Fingers crossed for you though, good luck!

Yes I ovulated on the 30th September going by the clearblue digital ov test. I don’t smoke and drink maybe once or twice a year lol. I have checked up on the foods just Incase. I’m 34 so time is ticking, we are both scared I think but really want it. Hearing of chemical pregnancies makes me want to make sure if it is there it’s stuck. I have never tested before as I’ve always been worried to test before af is due and I usually have the spotting as a tell tale sign. I think I will wait until a week late and then test.

I hope this is it for you.

Waiting4another · 19/10/2020 11:09

If you are not taking folic acid, do start now, it is important for development very early on x

Waiting4another · 19/10/2020 11:11

Totally normal to be scared by the way and you are a very patient human if you have been trying for a year without testing - go you!

Timetotry123 · 19/10/2020 11:14

I have been taking that for over a year now anyway as I had a deficiency in it. I take vitamin c,d, B6 folic acid and zinc. At the first app last week they said they think my partners sperm count was low (12mil) but would need to do another test. I think it would be a little miracle if I was. I’ve never been late I’m just very anxious to test because if I am I’m worried something will go wrong. But I guess that’s normal wether I test or not. Sorry I just needed somewhere to blurt out my feelings lol

Lol I’m just bad at disappointment, I have tests in my drawer just waiting for the day I would get by af’s due date but now I’m in this situation I’m freaking out.

I’ve always been getting cramping like af is about to arrive and my boobs are sore which is all normal before af for me.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/10/2020 11:20

Hi @Timetotry123 I can understand your test anxiety. As long as you follow the food/drink advice for pregnancy, they only really need you to book in about week 6 (2 weeks after missed AF) as that gives time to arrange the week 9 midwife appt

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/10/2020 11:21

Also cramping and sore boobs are also normal for the first trimester- I'm 8 weeks and 5-7 weeks my symptoms were cramping, sore (esp nips) big boobs and burpiness

Timetotry123 · 19/10/2020 11:30

Congratulations!! And thanks for the advice. My nipples are sore and itchy. It’s very strange for the last 13 months or so every month I’ve managed to convince myself I had symptoms but this month I don’t feel like I’ve had any other than what I have mentioned and as I said these are normal to me but not having the spotting is very strange and that’s what made me think when the nurse said on Wednesday phone tomorrow when your period arrives to book in for bloods I was like ooo I’ve not had spotting. I think because I knew I had that appointment I haven’t been as eagle eyed.

You are so restrained!! Go pee on a stick😂

Haggled · 19/10/2020 11:41

Take a test (and please update us!) Flowers

HotPatootiebootie · 19/10/2020 11:55

Itchy and sore nipples were mine and my sisters first sign of pregnancy every time. And between us that was six pregnancies! For us it's more reliable sign of a positive than a test!

effieceff · 19/10/2020 11:59

I’m about 5/6 days late (different apps saying different things) so far 4 negatives...? any ideas!!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 19/10/2020 12:07

Unfortunately @effieceff sometimes they are just late! I think that's why the OP is so nervous to test - she doesnt want to find it's just a wacky cycle and be disappointed

Timetotry123 · 19/10/2020 12:13

Yes that is what scares me!
Oooo good to hear that was your symptoms too. I’m never late and usually like clockwork but anything could through them out I suppose. Oh 5/6 days late and bfn eeek this is what’s stopping me I think I’m enjoying living in hope but that’s not very grown up of me lol I’ll test Thursday at 1 week late and I will update because I’ve been reading these types of post for months and you never find out the outcome :)

effieceff · 19/10/2020 12:16

It is rubbish isn’t it ☹️ hoping to get some better results this weekend coming, if not then I guess i’m just very late

Timetotry123 · 19/10/2020 12:23

Finger crossed it’s good news for you :)

Thank you 🙏🏼

grandmasterstitch · 19/10/2020 14:26

I was the same OP. 18 months and I didn't test unless I was late. The disappointment was too much otherwise. I would test if I was you at this point but I understand why you don't want to. As long as you don't have a negative you could be pregnant but getting the negative takes all the hope away. I really really hope this is it for you!

LisaLx · 19/10/2020 14:31

I personally would test but only because I hate waiting. Good luck for Thursday xx
