Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

How is everyone this Friday? @October1979 @Marvellouslymadmum @Littlemiss40andfabulous @wanderlove

I’m now 4DPO and have 2 FRERs sat in my Amazon basket already lol 🙈

Was wondering, where abouts in the UK is everyone?? (If you are happy to say!) You chat away online and I always think it’s funny one if you could be just down the rd... I’m from Somerset 😊

wanderlove · 07/05/2021 21:36

I am in the North East. I know Somerset tho as my best friend lives in Taunton and we come to see her regularly.
I got my static smiley yesterday and dtd this morning (making me late for work!) and my dp has just told me he is too tired tonight!! Hopefully he'll be in the mood tomorrow.

October1979 · 07/05/2021 21:42

@Honey2 I'm from Glasgow. DH just back and I'm in the middle of fw got flashy faces for the last 2 days. Will be a busy weekend for us xx

@Honey2 I'm good,,12dpo temp dropped a bit today 36.72 but rhr up and bfn so all confusing lol think I'm out by the bfn though as I expected anyway! I'm in East Sussex right down on the south coast

wanderlove · 07/05/2021 22:05

@Marvellouslymadmum my sister lives in Sussex and it's lovely!!

wanderlove · 07/05/2021 22:06

@Marvellouslymadmum it's so hard testing each month isn't it. I think each month not to get my hopes up but can't help it.

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/05/2021 22:09

@wanderlove does she? It's a lovely area, I've lived in Kent most of my life but moved here almost 5 years ago now. I don't normally test but has a pelvic examination today so thought I best test just to make sure first

Honey2 · 07/05/2021 23:02

Wow we are covering all corners of the UK! @Marvellouslymadmum I’ll keep my fingers crossed it’s not over yet for you! I assume you tested with an early test?

Marvellouslymadmum · 07/05/2021 23:15

@Honey2 just a strip test but at 12dpo something should show anyway, I didn't think I was in with much of a chance this month anyway

wanderlove · 08/05/2021 13:35

My other half has tidied up and thrown out the plastic test but of the opk kit. I've told him how expensive it was and that he needs to fish it out the bin!! I'd admittedly left the strips in the garden and he thought it was used and to throw away!!

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 08/05/2021 14:14

Thanks @Honey2

@Catconfusion I'm so sorry to hear your news. I was really hoping this wouldn't happen this month.

I'm living in South Wales - so we're very spread out!

We're ticking over here, surprisingly finding it quite easy to dtd every other day. First time trying this rather than peeing on sticks and focusing when ovulating and it is definitely less intense and thought consuming.

It's pouring with rain here so a day indoors here. Hope your weekends are going ok.

Rejoiningperson · 08/05/2021 14:19

Just to say best of luck peoples!

I had my second at age 42, and it’s been absolutely fantastic, so don’t give up hope. Ignore anyone being rude about older mothers, they wouldn’t think twice if it were a man. I’m able to give so much more to my child now I’m older, I”m a much better parent.

Catconfusion · 08/05/2021 14:30

Thanks @Littlemiss40andfabulous it’s such a shock as the tests looked so good until they weren’t. I’ve still not started bleeding which is frustrating. My head is all over the place trying to figure out why this has happened again: is it bad egg quality? Still recovering from my c section? My long cycles, Do I need more progesterone? Is it my weight or my diet? Am I not on the right supplements? Do I now have a thyroid issue? Can I only carry boys? It’s enough to drive anyone crazy!

Do you know what, the dtd every other day sounds good. Certainly sounds less stressful. My fertile time is over three weeks so it might be a marathon but maybe it’s the way forward. It would be a little tough for me as my cycles are so irregular I wouldn’t know when to do a hpt. I guess I could check my temp if I think I’ve ovulated to see if it’s raised. Are you adding in an extra one if you think you’re ovulating? It might be better for our relationship as well. We tend to only dtd when I think I’m ovulating due to having a toddler. It’s a bit sad really. I hope it works for you! Xx

Catconfusion · 08/05/2021 14:34

Thanks @Rejoiningperson I’m so glad it’s worked well for you. People in real life are sometimes really shocked we want another baby after having our son at 40. We’re both nearly 42 and really want ds to have a sibling. We met late in life so have done everything as quickly as we can. It feels so unfair to think we might not be able to have the family we want just because we’re older. Hopefully our luck will change. We’ve been ttc since Christmas and have had two miscarriages. It always gives me hope to hear success stories. Xx

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 08/05/2021 14:40

@Catconfusion no not really- figuring every other day covers all bases and I need time away from thinking about ovulation. Interestingly DH is far more motivated with this method and he's been instigating and it's felt just more about having fun together again. I don't know if it'll work but I recommend it to reduce relationship stress!

October1979 · 08/05/2021 14:49

I'm so so sorry @Catconfusion it's so cruel what our bodies put us through. I think egg quality lets us down at this stage. Try to stay positive you are conceiving. You are dtd at the right times. Let's just hope the next one will stick and it's just a matter of time. Hopefully your gp can shed some light on everything. Stay strong ❤️ xxx

@Rejoiningperson thank you so much for sharing. I’m 42 and met my partner late so it’s nice to know nature can still make things work!

@Catconfusion I think it’s most likely to simply be a question of waiting for the right egg. If all your tests are okay I think you can drive yourself nuts analysing these MCs. Though I totally understand why: should we take this supplement? Aspirin? Progesterone? It’s a permanent head spin!!

@Honey2 I’m in Windsor :-)

Geriatric1234 · 08/05/2021 16:13

Incidentally I’m 10dpo with zero symptoms but refusing to test until I know AF late. I can’t cope with a chemical. AF due in 8 days (yup - v long LP) so my 2WW is more of a 3WW!!

Honey2 · 08/05/2021 17:02

@Littlemiss40andfabulous I love South Wales - some beautiful beaches 😊

@Marvellouslymadmum do you think you will test again today?

@Catconfusion I think it’s totally understandable that you would like a sibling for your son... people can be so judgement can’t they ☹️ When I fell pregnant in February I was really worried about what everyone (family friends work) was going to say. I even thought I might just say it wasn’t planned. Stupid really!

Marvellouslymadmum · 08/05/2021 22:47

@wanderlove oops! Did he go get it out the bin? Lol

@Rejoiningperson aww that's lovely thank you for sharing

@Catconfusion a doctor told me that m/c and c/p are your body's way of saying there was something not quite right with this one, weather it's chromosomal abnormality or what we don't know but it's just your body knowing this one wouldn't make it I know it's not much comfort but It helped me deal with it a little better. Plus they also say it's a positive that you can get pregnant too

@Honey2 no af is just starting, new it was on the way and we'd probably missed out this month so not too disappointed just want to get on with the next cycle

Geriatric1234 · 10/05/2021 07:32

Morning all! Happy Monday!

I’m having a little reset in preparation for next cycle. Currently 12 dpo, AF due on 6 days and I have zero symptoms of anything at all (!) plus had v high fever following vaccination so think it’s unlikely to be a BFP this month and am focussing on next cycle.

Can I check in re:supplements with you all? I know it feels like this Q is coming up endlessly and I’m so sorry to ask again but I’m ADD so I really struggle with organising multiple sources. I’m taking:

Naturelo pre-natal (has the good folate)
800mg D3
50mg B6
Vit C
200 mg ubiquinol

Should I add in DHEA?

I haven’t been tested for progesterone as I’m so symptomatic of it being a decent level apparently. And following TVS where ovulation was visible they feel there’s no need to test - that seem right or shall I pay privately?

Thanks for the check-in Team Over 40! Xxx

sabtom · 10/05/2021 10:42

Morning @Geriatric1234. Well, I'm on a cocktail of vitamins and supplements -

Omega 3-6-9: 3600mg, label says take 3 but I only take 2.

Ubiqinol 200mg + 250mg Omega-3: I used to take 3 tablets a day (600mg) but I've recently cut that down to 2 a day (400mg) expensive stuff!

Vitamin E 1000iu: 1 a day

Vitamin C 1000mg: 1 a day

Vitamin B-complex: 1 a day

Vitamin D 2000iu: 1 a day

Folic acid 5mg: 1 a day (on prescription cause I'm diabetic)

Pregnacare: 1 a day

Ferrous Fumarate 210mg (iron): 1 every other day

Also doing Acupuncture 2/3 a month. Only had 4 sessions so far.

OH is only on the wellman conception, but trying to get him to cut down on alcohol and coffee is a nightmare! And he says he's quitting the cigarettes but I know he's hiding his sneaky smokes! 😡 I've been on these supplements for quite a few months now, and nothing, so maybe I'm wasting my money, but I daren't stop just incase they are helping 🤷🏻‍♀️

sabtom · 10/05/2021 10:46

Not sure what DPO I am, neither app has detected ovulation or me yet. Had a peak on CD15/16, but no clear rise in temp yet. Any opinions?

I’m 10DPO and did a test strip which was negative. I don’t know why I bothered lol. AF due in a few days.

I’m in south London and turned 40 this year and been trying since September last year. No children.
