Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

@SeeSawSeen congratulations! Thank you for sharing, I wish you a happy healthy pregnancy Thanks and yes, I don't believe just cause we're 40+ we are out 😊

Marvellouslymadmum · 16/04/2021 19:57

@sabtom hmm that's a tough one as it's still lower the fp but if it goes up next few days that should mean it was cd18 I'd guess

@SeeSawSeen aww congratulations, that's great to hear! I hope your pregnancy goes well, gives us all hope 😊

sabtom · 16/04/2021 20:18

@Marvellouslymadmum I would agree, however, that meant I've ovulated 3 days after the peak and 4 days later than Ava predicted? This is gunna be a funny cycle I think 😤

Marvellouslymadmum · 16/04/2021 20:33

@sabtom it's definitely going to be a confused one!

Honey2 · 16/04/2021 22:14

Hi all,

I hope you don’t mind me joining this thread... I am also TTC at 40 (41 next month)

I have 3 kids already, conceived at 29, 33 and 35. This is a much hoped for final baby to complete our family.

After 3 months of trying we managed to concieve naturally but I sadly MC last month at 7weeks. I stopped bleeding about 3 weeks ago but I don’t think I’ve ovulated yet... had all the signs about 2 weeks after MC (fertile cm, high cervix, high opk) but never got the temp shift, now my temp has gone down again... I’m guess my body tried to ovulate but didn’t?? Now I don’t know what to expect, my period? or will my body try again to ovulate??

Really keeping my fingers crossed for you all xx

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 17/04/2021 06:24

@SeeSawSeen and @BabyMoonPie congratulations on your BFPs! Smile

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 17/04/2021 06:28

Hi @Honey2

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Apparently you are more fertile in the months after a miscarriage. I don't measure my temperature etc so can't really advise about that, but hope it doesn't take you too long to conceive again.

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/04/2021 10:11

@Honey2 hi and welcome, sorry to hear about your mc, it can take quite some time for your cycles to return to normal afterwards as your hormones are all over the place, I'm on a ttc after mc thread and though mine have returned pretty quick each time I know some who have taken months. As @Littlemiss40andfabulous said though you can be more fertile just after so I'd just dtd when you can and wait to see what happens, your cycles will regulate and temps get to where they need to when your body decides xx

Honey2 · 17/04/2021 21:38

@Littlemiss40andfabulous @Marvellouslymadmum

Thanks for replying, it’s so difficult not to be impatient! I’ve always fallen pregnant very quickly with my other children - and my 3rd was conceived after 2 miscarriages but still feel the first month after my period returned. I think it’s just getting my head around the reality of TTC at 40!

Marvellouslymadmum · 17/04/2021 22:21

@Honey2 I literally fell pregnant with my two children that are now teens straight away, no issues at all but this has been a whole other ball game now at 42. I still don't know if it's him, me or both but it's certainly not happening for us!

Honey2 · 18/04/2021 07:43

@@Marvellouslymadmum sorry to hear that - how long have you been trying? Are you trying naturally? Are you using any supplements?

I’m feeling this morning like my ‘period’ could be on its way which I’m positive about as at least then I may be able to have a normal cycle.. every month is precious at this age!! We’ve decided we are only going to try for another 3 months now and if it doesn’t happen I think we’ll have to accept our family of 5 is how it’s meant to be.

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/04/2021 12:33

@Honey2 we have been ttc for 3 years 2 mc 2cp we are both on a whole list of every suppliment going for fertility, using conception lube, fertilily cup, eating healthily, seed cycling, exercising, he's given up smoking, we don't drink, extra protein, full fat milk for me, fresh pineapple slices in fw, pomegranate juice, keeping my feet warm (prob an old wives tale but worth a try!) using opk and bbt, rhr erm and I think that's about it 😂
Not entitled to much help on the nhs as we both have teenagers but none together which is what we would really love.

Honestly I would give it more than three months, even at any age there's only a certain percent that will conceive in the first year, and slightly more in the second so 6 months especially at an older age is no time at all.

Honey2 · 18/04/2021 16:30

@Marvellouslymadmum Wow that’s an impressive list! What’s seed cycling and rhr erm??
I turn 41 at the beginning of May and I’m my head I’ve decided if I don’t get pregnant in time to give birth before I turn 42 then it’s time to call it a day. I know there are loads of mums still go in to have babies well into their 40’s and I completely understand your situation is very different to mine. I just really feel we need to draw the line somewhere. Plus my husband is 6 years older than me too. The fact I got pregnant before this latest MC on the 3rd month gives me some hope it’s possible. But if it doesn’t happen I think I will take it as fate. (Although I am sure I will totally gutted) in a way I wish we’d have tried again sooner ( our youngest turns 5 next week) but before now wasn’t the right time.

I’m taking 800mg folic acid and Ubiquinol supplements, plus no alcohol or caffeine. What does the pineapple do?? If I do get a BFP then I’ll also start low dose aspirin and herprin, due to having a late loss at 20weeks from a blood clotting issue.

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/04/2021 19:20

@Honey2 literally at the point of trying anything lol seed cycling is a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds and a tablespoon of flax seeds every day up until ovulation, then a tablespoon of sesame seeds and a tablespoon of sunflower seeds every day after. Supposed to help balance the hormones. Rhr is resting heart rate, you can track it like bbt and it's supposed to help track things. I just turned 42 a few weeks ago and I just don't feel too old to have another, my partner is also younger than me so that helps. The pineapple is a natural source of bromelain which helps with the womb lining and stops your foof from being too acidic so it doesn't kill off all his swimmers 😂 I take folic acid and ubiquinol, along with all the rest! A loss at 20 weeks must've been so hard for you 😔 I was upset enough with mine both around 8 weeks!
I also wish we could've started sooner but we've only been together for 5.5 years and the first miscarriage was 1.5 years into our relationship so wasn't really an option!

Honey2 · 18/04/2021 19:48

@Marvellouslymadmum it’s great to chat and her your story... keep me posted with how you are getting on. Smile

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/04/2021 20:37

@Honey2 will do! I'm always around posting things lol

soontobeamama · 18/04/2021 21:00

@Marvellouslymadmum
The seed cycling sounds interesting - I have been taking all the supplements, along with pineapple and pomegranate juice following your suggestions, so I might give it a try. I've bought Pre-Seed fertility lubricant to try this cycle as well. Like you said, I'm willing to try anything! xx

@Honey2 I'm so sorry for your losses, in particular at 20 weeks, that must have been horrendous. All my losses have been under 10 weeks and they were bad enough, so a much later loss must have been heartbreaking for you. Give it time - 3 months is no time at all to be trying to get pregnant. I've had 3 losses and although I'm now 43, my test results all came back really positive and I'm reassured that I can actually get pregnant, I just need a good fertilised egg to actually stay pregnant xx

Marvellouslymadmum · 18/04/2021 21:04

@soontobeamama I don't know if it's having a good effect or not but can't be doing any harm 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've got the Tesco conception gel which is same as pre-seed but Tesco version and was reduced to clear so I bought it all 😂

soontobeamama · 19/04/2021 11:33

😂

sabtom · 23/04/2021 08:32

Morning all! How are we doing?

Well unfortunately for me AF arrived yesterday but it was a funny cycle, I had no idea when I actually ovulated cause both apps I use had conflicting dates 🤔 (see attached pics) So onto a new cycle again 😤 still waiting to hear back from the GP to see if they will do anymore tests again and try something different before I spend loads on IVF! In the meantime will keep going to Acupunture (only had 2 sessions so far) 🤞🏻

Thanks

Marvellouslymadmum · 23/04/2021 08:46

Hi @sabtom sorry af arrived, I'd definitely say you ovulated cd19/20 as there's a dip on both charts at cd18 which can indicate the peak just before ov. That doesn't give you a very long Lp though, what is it usually?

I'm cd14 today still on flashy smileys but had a slight dip in temp yesterday so expecting my peak tomorrow. My Lp changed each month and when I tried to tell the doc she just dismissed it and said that can happen as we age but I don't think that's right!

sabtom · 23/04/2021 09:26

@Marvellouslymadmum yeah, according to the temps, I would say I ovulated around CD19/20 even though I had a peak OPK at CD15. My LP phase started at being around 11days but after a few months and lots of supplements I think it could be about 12/13 days now. Because I'm never sure when I actually ovulate I don't really know what my LP length is 🤔

Fingers crossed you get your peak 🤞🏻keep us posted 😊

Honey2 · 23/04/2021 14:50

@sabtom sorry it wasn’t your month this time...
I also agree the temps do look like ovulation occurred around 19th, but interesting that your had EWCM quite a while before. What is the MON recording on the fertility friend app?

@Marvellouslymadmum fingers crossed for you this month. I agree from what I’ve read LP doesn’t change with age, but as long as it’s greater than 11 days then the egg can still implant ok?

As for me my Af started on Tuesday - not surprising as I didn’t think I ovulated this month. In a way I’m pleased as at least now hopefully I can have a normal cycle following my miscarriage last month. Feels like an age to wait until ovulation now though! I usually ov around cd13/14 although when I got preg in Feb it was cd10 according to my app - so who knows!

Baby dust to all xxx

sabtom · 23/04/2021 15:16

@Honey2 sorry, still not down with all the acronyms 😊 what is MON?

Fingers crossed and baby dust for you too xx

Marvellouslymadmum · 23/04/2021 17:36

@sabtom some months it's just so confusing!

@Honey2 my Lp really ranges it starts at 9 days and goes up to 17 but the last two months have been 14/15 days so I'm hoping it's settling back down again! Sorry af arrived for you but at least you know what's happening!
