I think one of my problems could be low progesterone hence the 'ovulation' bleeding. Does anyone know what they can actually do for that?

whambam89 · 03/11/2020 09:14

@SS123456 no because I didn't actually mention us TTC. Just mentioned that I had a few symptoms of an underactive thyroid and a family history of it and the GP said they would do full bloods just to check for anything else like anaemia as well.

@kirinm I think they can prescribe progesterone but I'm not 100% sure

SS123456 · 03/11/2020 12:13

@whambam89 ah I see! I'm not sure that they would do any fertility checks on the blood in that case. I would imagine 'full bloods' only tests for limited things related to the isolated conditions your symptoms match

SS123456 · 03/11/2020 12:16

@kirinm I am convinced low progesterone is my issue too and the reason for my mc. I've looked a bit into it and gps appear very very reluctant to prescribe it though for some reason. I asked my gp about it the other day during a telephone appointment and she dismissed it. She did agree to the CD21 progesterone test though reluctantly (likely to shut me up 😂)

Yeah when I was seen in the recurrent miscarriage clinic, they never offered me progesterone. I read on here lots of stories about people being given it though.

MrsB2019x · 03/11/2020 12:25

Wonder why they seem so reluctant to give it out..? 🤷🏻‍♀️

"never offered" should have read, I wasn't ever.

whambam89 · 03/11/2020 12:47

You'd think in the long run that prescribing progesterone would be a lot cheaper for the NHS than going back and forth with fertility issues / miscarriages.

After 6 attempts to get blood the phlebotomist gave up.. I now look like I've been in a fight 😂 There's a nurse at work who's really good at getting blood so going to ask her and if not I've got to go back tomorrow!

kirinm · 03/11/2020 13:15

I have a feeling research has changed re progesterone supplements. I think it was routinely given out a few years ago but not so anymore. I assume that is because it was either detrimental or wasn't making any difference. Not sure though.

kirinm · 03/11/2020 13:17

I've just googled and apparently it was because there was little difference in outcomes between those who were bleeding going on to miscarry or having a successful pregnancy.

SS123456 · 03/11/2020 19:45

Thanks @kirinm that's interesting to know

SS123456 · 03/11/2020 19:46

Oh no @whambam89 🙈. Was it because they could get a good vein or because you were scared?

SS123456 · 03/11/2020 19:46

Couldn't*

MrsB2019x · 03/11/2020 20:30

Oh no @whambam89! ☹️ Hope you get on better tomorrow!

OP posts:
whambam89 · 03/11/2020 20:54

@SS123456 @MrsB2019x because my veins are terrible! I'm not actually scared of needles, my body just reacts really badly to them for some reason (I have been known to faint 😂), I've got much better in the last couple of years thankfully.. I am now battered and bruised but thankfully no fainting and the nurse at work managed to get some blood on the 2nd attempt so I don't have to go tomorrow!

whambam89 · 03/11/2020 20:55

Mrs B how are you doing? I feel like 7dpo is official symptom spotting territory!

MrsB2019x · 03/11/2020 22:21

Brilliant news @whambam89! My veins buried themselves when I was pregnant with the ectopic and it took a doctor 5/6 goes to get it out, even tried going in through my feet 🤢 I’m doing ok thanks, I have never known a 2WW to drag on like this one has though. I don’t feel much different than usual so have already convinced myself I’m out 😂 how are you doing?

SS123456 · 04/11/2020 07:01

@whambam89 so glad you managed to get it done in the end! Let us know what the results are when you get them 🤞🏻

SS123456 · 04/11/2020 07:01

@MrsB2019x through your foot?! 🤢

whambam89 · 04/11/2020 07:56

@MrsB2019x never heard of them being taken through your foot! I've had to have mine done in some random places over the years as well. Not feeling any different here either really, boobs a bit less sore but they tend to do that then get more sore closer to AF as well. Temp had a slight dip yesterday but is back up today, only 7dpo today though so I think it's normal to do that? Not feeling very hopeful either!

MrsB2019x · 04/11/2020 08:11

@SS123456 @whambam89 Yeah, both feet 🤢 and it didn’t work!

Do you remember when we were positive and optimistic whambam? 😂🙄

I lost one at 5 weeks and 9 weeks about 5 years ago....then this little one.
Wasn't necessarily looking for answers but some support going forward and a closer eye on us.
But it's a crazy amount of time to wait...
So I think we will just carry on regardless.
I'm excited to start the tww and even excited for crazy symptom spotting!
