Hi everyone!

I'm currently on my first period after being on the pill for 15 years. The last 5 years I have taken it constantly with no break due to painful and heavy periods so I'm not expecting this journey to be a quick or easy one!

Hubby is 34 and I am 30, ttc our first and hoping to share the journey with some of you lovely ladies here so please feel free to join!

@lilacflower12 thats what I feel like now. What should I do until I can start properly TTC in about 2/3 weeks 😂😂 I'm gonna enjoy normal coffee and alcohol I think!

Honestly I feel so bad for you and @Purpleflowers21 but it will be so worth it when you have little babies!! Especially if they are then at the weddings.

Purpleflowers21 · 03/10/2020 10:23

AMS19 it won’t let me tag you. I’m obv gutted about the wedding but the thought of possibly having a baby there makes it exciting again! X

lilacflower12 · 03/10/2020 13:19

@Purpleflowers21 should be the 30th which is actually my partners birthday, so I’m either going to be super happy or super sad, haha!
@AMS19 yes it will be lovely, I’ve already been looking on Pinterest at cute flower girl/page boy outfits Grin

Vicki1990 · 03/10/2020 21:17

I'm not hopeful for any holidays next year either so figured we may as well ttc now!

Sorry to hear about your wedding but it would be lovely to have your child there! Wishing you lots of baby dust and to all the ladies here!

I think I am about to finish af, my app says I'm due to ovulate on the 17th (obviously this is my first proper cycle after coming off the pill so I don't expect it to be accurate) but when do I start to use my opks?

OP posts:
adogisforlife91 · 04/10/2020 08:53

@Vicki1990 I would start using them once a day from day 10. That way you learn to recognise what it looks like as they get stronger and stronger. Once the line starts to appear then test twice a day and when it gets really strong 3 times to catch the peak! After a few cycles you'll know when it's likely to come, e.g. I'm usually CD15 or 16 so I start testing around day 13 to save my sanity!!

I had my peak two days ago so just entering my first ever TWW!! Ahhh! Blush

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 09:05

@adogisforlife91 thats so exciting! Do you feel like you DTD enough / at the right times?

@Vicki1990 I'm also in my first cycle and even on CD 17 having totally negative OPKs and no BBT yet. So might take a little longer but defo worth starting from CD10 anyway

@lilacflower12 ha I've been looking at nurseries and started a nursaey board 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

adogisforlife91 · 04/10/2020 09:24

@ams19 we've managed 5 times in the last 8 days so I think so!! Might try tonight or tomorrow morning for luck too....
DP doesn't know what hit him, as I usually have a fairly low sex drive but it's like since we decided to do this something's changed in me Grin .... Funny how nature works eh?!

He's not complaining though Hmm

Purpleflowers21 · 04/10/2020 09:49

@adogisforlife91 I’m exactly the same Grin can’t get enough since stopping my pill and deciding to TTC

Vicki1990 · 04/10/2020 10:09

@adogisforlife91 oh how exciting! Will keep my fingers firmly crossed for you!

Thank you for the advice, I will start at cd10 not expecting to ovulate to be honest but would be good to see where I am!

I've been the same! I'm sure my pill lowered my sex drive, since I've been off it hubby doesn't know what's hit him Grin

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 10:14

I totally agree with you all!! Not only am I more horny but I actually enjoy the sex a lot more too!! We DTD last night without a condom. Whoops. I'm sure it will be fine though, the OPK i took was negative and no movement on BBT chart... I just need to wait another 2/3 weeks then can properly TTC without worrying about this holiday 😫

adogisforlife91 · 04/10/2020 10:17

@Vicki1990 you never know. I didn't either but ovulated pretty much bang on time the first month. I was on the mini pill not sure if that could make a difference?

Have you told anyone you are TTC? Part of the reason I want to join one of these threads is because we haven't told anyone in real life...so I can talk about it here instead!

Puffin85 · 04/10/2020 10:19

Hey!

Can I join too? Just stopped taking the mini pill a few days ago so waiting to see what happens, no bleeding or anything yet but I am feeling grumpy! Might take a while to adjust I guess? Did anyone else find stopping the pill affected their mood?

Nice to have a group of people who are just starting out too! 🙂

I'm 35 so quite old to be starting, but I'm generally healthy so cautiously optimistic atm. Because of my age (and maybe my obsessive nature haha) I'm going to start with the OPKs right away and might start temping too. Got vitamins, will be eating healthily, exercising etc. Haha hoping treating it like a project is going to help!

Good luck everyone, looking forward to seeing how you get on 🙂

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 10:29

@adogisforlife91 I have only told 1 or 2 people so really enjoy having a group to chat to on it all!

@Puffin85 thats great you are being proactive. I stopped the combined pill about 3 weeks ago so am just BBT charting but did do one OPK test yesterday. I might try doing a few now, although really on CD16. Once my first proper AF comes I'm going to start really TTC. At the moment I'm meant to be using protection...but it isnt going to plan 😂

I'm 32, not far off 33, so similar age

Vicki1990 · 04/10/2020 10:29

We haven't really told anyone! I've told a couple of friends that I've come off the pill but only because I was having the worst period of my life and needed to see if they had the same! I'd like to tell my mum and mother in law but equally is quite like it to be a surprise so I don't know whether to or not! Are you guys telling anyone?

I was on the combined pill but oh my god I was on a massive emotional rollercoaster for the first couple of weeks and over my period. I'd cry because I felt down then laughed at how stupid I was being haha! Anyone else the same?!

OP posts:
Puffin85 · 04/10/2020 16:56

@AMS19 did your OPK have a second line at all? I've done a couple and they have second lines, but not too dark. Given I've only just stopped the pill I'm assuming this is just the base level of LH I have floating around in my body. I feel like it might take a month or two to get to grips with how the lines look and what's low and what's high LH? I'm impatient for my first AF and for cycles to settle and I've barely even got going with the TTC process yet haha.

@Vicki1990 I've told my sister, but I don't think I will tell anyone else yet. I would like to mention it to my Mum as I know she'd be excited, but I also don't want her to feel sad if it doesn't work out for whatever reason...she's been hankering after a grandchild for about 10 years! Like you said it would be a nice surprise to tell her at 12 wks too 🙂

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 17:10

@Puffin85 literally not even a hint of a second line. Just did another one and it was the same. It is so weird because my nipples are absolutely killing me, and I've had cramps for the last 4 days. So if I'm not ovulating then I have no clue what the hell is going on

Planning to TTC this month for the first time, anyone else?
Puffin85 · 04/10/2020 17:27

@AMS19 Arghh how frustrating! Has your temping showed up anything at all? From the examples I've seen it looks like the LH drops down quickly again after ovulation for some people (because mine had lines I've obviously been googling it like crazy), but you'd think your temps would have showed something if you had ovulated already? Maybe keep testing and hopefully something will show up soon. I think it can be bit of a waiting game initially while your body adjusts to being off the pill

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 17:39

@Puffin85 no annoying temps have jumped around. They are really high as well, so maybe I still have some hormone left in my body?! Hoping the sore boots, which I have never ever had, and bloating means AF is about to arrive. Which would be amazing because then I can start my first proper cycle and start to TTC as the timing would work really well. It is weird how I dont have even a tiny bit of LH in my system. It is literally zero. Really really odd. .

lilacflower12 · 04/10/2020 17:44

@AMS19 these are what mine are looking like at the moment, very low but gradually getting lighter, Once I get to cd 10/11 I think I’ll test twice a day to see when I start to peak.

@Puffin85 I’ve just come off the mini pill too, I started OPK’s and folic acid straight away, I think it’s good to see what your base level is and go from there! Fingers crossed your body gets back to normal soon, I felt a bit crappy the first few days after coming off, but once my withdrawal bleed stopped I felt better Smile

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 18:32

@lilacflower12 oh yours are much better than mine! Mine doesn't even have a hint of a second line....🤦‍♀️ I'm hoping it means AF is coming as I'm already on CD16 since the withdrawal bleed.

Puffin85 · 04/10/2020 18:42

@AMS19 I wonder if it's because lilac and I have both come off the mini pill and you were on the combined? Maybe the mini pill doesn't stop you producing LH and the combined does? Hopefully yours will kick in soon. I'd keep testing anyway to see if it does?

@lilacflower12 These are mine. I'm not sure if the femometer app is the way forward for me. I can't see much difference between the ones it's saying are low LH and high LH. I might go oldschool like the example I attached.

lilacflower12 · 04/10/2020 18:53

@AMS19 I was just about to say, I think it’s because the mini pill doesn’t stop you ovulating like the combination pill does!

@Puffin85 yeah I use both that one and the Premom one, if I can’t tell when my peak is on the app I might start keeping them! I think high is supposed to be nearly as dark as the control and then peak is darker, anything lighter than that and you aren’t ovulating

AMS19 · 04/10/2020 19:41

@Puffin85 @lilacflower12 yes I reckon you right. Hopefully won't take too long for my body to start doing what it is meant to! After 7 years of being on it and not ovulating I'm not holding out much hope. Really wish I had come off the pill earlier and used condoms for a while...

ErrolFinn · 06/10/2020 14:18

Hello,
Can I join you all? We have decided this month to NTNP only for the fact I know I will become obsessive if I start properly tracking my cycles. If we haven't got a BFP in 3 months I might start using OPKs.
I started taking the seven seas preconception vitamins a couple of months ago and found it really lengthened my cycle. Has anyone else found this? I don't know whether to keep taking them or not.

I am 27 and my DH is 29.

KJS20 · 06/10/2020 14:36

Hello, would also love to join - me and my husband are both 33 and have just decided to take the plunge and start trying! Folic acid in the post and ready to see what happens :) very strange not knowing how long it will take / if we’ll be lucky enough to get a bfp (think that’s the right acronym!). Will be great to chat to others going through the same journey.
