CM after coming off pill? TTC #1

Wondering if anyone is having or has had the same experience as myself?

I quit taking the pill on the 18th/19th of August, having been on it for 8 years with one break of 2 months (actively preventing conception by other means) where my cycle went back to completely normal (28 days I think)

Now I'm off again, ttc our first and I may be thinking far too much into this but I've produced very little cm, like none atall! I thought I'd be ovulating yesterday and I'm now having fainter lines on OPK's but no cm atall.

Has anyone else had this after coming off the pill? I know I've just come off of it and I am not expecting to become pregnant straight away!

Very similar situation to me - I'm TTC number 1 - I came off the pill on 3rd August (after being on it for 13 years), had my withdrawal bleed as normal 2 days later and have had much less CM generally as I did when I was on the pill.

That being said, I did have egg white CM (sorry, TMI) around my fertile week, according to the Ovia app, but it appeared a couple of days after I felt what I thought was ovulation pain when it's supposed to appear a couple of days before you ovulate. So really, no idea what happened!

I'm now on CD30 with very little CM and waiting for my AF to appear!

NoCallerID · 03/09/2020 16:47

Are you checking internally?

When I came off the pill I hardly had any cm. I started taking evening primrose oil capsules (and agnus Castus to regulate cycles) and it really helped.

HeyDW96 · 03/09/2020 17:52

@RBCoxie I've had some twinges, mainly left sided pain and what feels like electric signals being sent through my boobs a few times a day (weird!) my face has broken out like a friggin margherita pizza aswell! The joys 😠

But no cm atall, and I definitely had ewcm on the pill! So hard not to notice everything now 🤦🏼‍♀️

@RBCoxie I have checked internally a few times, don't really know what I'm feeling but it's soft and spongey and some milky like discharge but nothing else 🤨

Sorry I meant to tag @NoCallerID in this also, new to Mumsnet and I can't see an option to edit or delete once posted!

@HeyDW96 - I've had similar symptoms too, apart from the electrical signal, that must have felt weird! But definitely twinges and I have completely broken out on my face too - not enjoying that one bit. I also had EWCM while I was on the pill, I feel like I had it a lot more then - just had it for one evening this time! Apart from that, I've had the milky CM you described too but hardly anything compared to what I'm used to!

Maybe it's just what happens while your cycle gets back to normal? Wish there was a way of definitely knowing what's going on, but keep telling myself to be patient as it's only cycle 1!

HeyDW96 · 03/09/2020 19:42

@RBCoxie I'm just so used to the pill and my body being on it that I'm weirded out by what my hormones are doing now I think!

It's hard to be patient, we spend so long not wanting to fall pregnant and when we make the decision that we do we don't want to wait for a second 🤦🏼‍♀️

Maybe optimistic but I am hoping I'm pregnant by Christmas!

RBCoxie · 03/09/2020 19:56

@HeyDW96 honestly I feel exactly the same! I spent 13 years on the pill, came off it for a month a few years ago and got an ovarian cyst which needed removing so the docs advised me to go back on the pill as we weren't TTC. So I've spent pretty much the last 13 years having my AF like clockwork, knowing exactly what was going on and now I'm like...sorry...what is this?! 😂

I've become the most impatient person ever!! We said we would start properly TTC after my first proper AF (even though we weren't particularly careful throughout the month!) and I've just started getting proper cramps this afternoon so now I'm checking every hour 😂 what has happened to me?!?! 😂

Yeah I'd love for that too, Christmas would be so lovely, but very aware I don't want to add even more pressure than I already feel! Can't help but get excited about the possibility though..!

HeyDW96 · 03/09/2020 21:20

@RBCoxie the struggle is real, gone from chilled out not even thinking about my fertility to now thinking about it every day!

Fingers crossed for Christmas surprises!

@NoCallerID oh so I had a feel (sorry) it's bloody high up, either that or I have incredibly short arms 😂

OP posts:
NoCallerID · 04/09/2020 15:46

@HeyDW96 ARMS 😱😅 you don't need to feel your cervix to check cm. Finger up the vag, little swirl around and then check. 😂

HeyDW96 · 04/09/2020 15:56

@NoCallerID I meant fingers, however if an entire arm did fit up there atleast the birth of future child would not be a problem 😂😂

OP posts:
RBCoxie · 04/09/2020 16:43

Arms!! This did make me laugh 😂

My AF arrived this morning - yaaaay! Never thought I'd be so happy to see my period! Officially in my first cycle of TTC (obviously once AF stops!). Excited!

HeyDW96 · 04/09/2020 17:34

It's been a long day with a boisterous puppy 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 please keep in touch as it sounds like we're kinda at the same stage/in the same situation!

OP posts:
RBCoxie · 04/09/2020 18:39

Aw cute!! Can imagine it's tiring though - my OH is desperate for a puppy..he thinks the best time to get one is when I'm on maternity leave 😑 Yes, exactly what I'll want...a newborn and a puppy!! 😂

Yes please keep in touch too! It's great to be able to chat to someone who's in a similar situation - especially when very few friends or family even know we're TTC!! x

HeyDW96 · 04/09/2020 19:03

@RBCoxie oh god no! Ours is five months and I'm hoping she's much better trained if we have a baby 🤣

I've told some friends and my mum, my partners mum isn't a granny yet and i can't wait to be able to tell her we're having a baby (hopefully soon) 🤞🏼

OP posts:
RBCoxie · 04/09/2020 20:03

@HeyDW96 😂 at least you're doing one at a time! Even best case scenario, you'd have another 9 months to go, so fingers crossed! Think I'm going to have to put my foot down on the puppy & newborn! haha!

Ah nice!! That's so exciting - it's so difficult not to get too excited about it and think about how you'd tell them etc. My parents aren't grandparents yet, so really excited to be able to tell them, as you say, hopefully soon! I feel like this month is going to go by really slowly until we can start to test..!!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 04/09/2020 23:57

The pill can leave your cycles really messed up (I've had one cycle lasting 141 days and am on another on day 31 with no ovulation). Give it a few months to get back in the swing of things. Also you can ovulate without necessarily getting EWCM

HeyDW96 · 06/09/2020 06:47

So I have loads of EWCM this morning (at work very early 💤) and a lot of twinges and pinching down there so I'm hoping this is me ovulating 🤞🏼

OP posts:
RBCoxie · 06/09/2020 16:02

Great news!! And this would be around the normal time for ovulation if you came off the pill mid-August too, right? Ah so excited for you!

HopingForTheBest24 · 06/09/2020 16:22

Hi OP

Sounds like you’ve now had some EWCM but just my story if others come across this thread.

I came off the pill Feb this year after being on it for 13 years. Didn’t have any real CM to note until middle of March when I had this (TMI ALERT) massive glob which I imagine was some sort of mucous plug. I was on Cerazette which is a progesterone only pill which does thicken CM so i presume that’s why it ‘came out’ after stopping. I had a period a couple weeks after. Wasn’t sure if it was a withdrawal bleed or not but 4 weeks later another period and they’ve been regular ever since.

So I think everyone’s different. I know some people it can take years to get their hormones back on track but I’m not sure it necessarily correlates to how long you’ve been on it as I was on for 13 years. May also depend on the type of pill.

As my pill stopped basically all CM I have noticed it much more since stopping and can tell when I’m OV based on CM and it matches to my cycle app.

Good luck! X

HeyDW96 · 06/09/2020 19:01

@RBCoxie I'm just going to get some ovulation sticks I think, then I'll have a better idea of what the hell is going on but I'm taking the EWCM as a positive! God I've turned into a crazy mucus obsessed lady! I used to roll my eyes at things like this I swear 🤣

@HopingForTheBest24 are you ttc aswell? I think my cycle comes back quickly from what I can remember but to be honest I've never paid too much attention until now!

OP posts:
HopingForTheBest24 · 06/09/2020 19:24

@HeyDW96 not officially trying but not preventing. Both happy to have a baby. DTD day before ov this month so we will see 🤞🏼 🙏🏼 I’ve been regular since March

RBCoxie · 06/09/2020 19:28

@HeyDW96 yeah I would say it's a definite positive! I'm using the Ovia app at the mo to track my cycle - I've found it really easy and it seemed to be reasonably accurate when I compared ovulation symptoms and AF predictions. I think if we don't get a BFP in the next couple of months then I'll try the ovulation sticks - would be great to know how you get on with them because I'm worried about reading them wrong and then missing the fertile window! haha.

Hahaha I completely agree, in the past I've been like 'oh when the time comes I'll be super chilled and what will be, will be' - ohhhh how wrong I was!

HeyDW96 · 06/09/2020 19:29

@HopingForTheBest24 good luck! I've gone from 'will see what happens' to I WANT A BABY NOW! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

OP posts:
HopingForTheBest24 · 06/09/2020 19:39

@HeyDW96 yep I’m a bit like that also hoping and waiting but then get negative and think what’s the chances of conceiving on month 1 and only Bd once around ov. Who knows! Noticing symptoms I probably get every cycle at this time too driving me in nuts and I already know I’ll feel sad and disheartened if AF shows. Another week of waiting for me now tho !
