Cyclogest 200mg

Hi,

My GP has prescribed me 200mg once a day for fertility following 3 miscarriages. We are only TTC at the moment, no BFP as yet but I am sure that the majority of posts I have seen either here or on Facebook suggest that women should take 200mg twice a day?

Anyone know?

I was prescribed 200mg x 2 daily from 7dpo, up to 400mg x2 on positive test for recurrent mc. I'd double check that you're on the right prescription.

RachaelRed · 01/09/2020 14:44

Thank you VenusStarr - I'll leave my GP a message again. I thought 200mg was wrong

I was also on 200mg twice a day, from 3dpo.

Check with your doctor.

Boc86 · 01/09/2020 16:21

From what I’ve read (I need to be prescribed it) it’s 200 twice a day from 3dpo to your period if you’re not pregnant or 12 weeks if you are

RachaelRed · 03/09/2020 08:42

@VenusStarr Can you tell me what time of the day you inserted the pessaries? My GP has prescribed 200mg twice a day now, but unsure whether to insert them one after the other or spaced out? Really grateful for advice!

@Boc86 Sorry I just saw your message, thank you - I have been prescribed 200 twice a day now, but don't know when to insert them?!

OP posts:
VenusStarr · 03/09/2020 08:48

@RachaelRed I do them morning and evening - 12 hours between doses. I use the back door - no mess, whereas I heard using vaginally can be messy when the wax comes out. I lie down for half an hour after the dose.

You'll need the 400mg dose if you are pregnant - so still 2 doses 12 hours apart. Good luck 🤞

buggleton · 03/09/2020 08:49

I insert mine morning and evening. You can put them in vagina or anus. I alternate.

RachaelRed · 03/09/2020 08:51

Thank you all so so much

Hi all,

I'm wondering if any of you had side effects from the pessaries. I started using them on Saturday (3dpo) and have an unusual amount of discharge and some dull pains in my abdomen, not dissimilar from my period aches - but I am not due on for another week.

Resisting the temptation to do an early pregnancy test as I personally think they are the devil after my last 3 m/cs!

The only side effects I've had was feeling really emotional. I've actually got a BFP the first month of using them! Whether it sticks or not I don't know. I've got brown spotting and the lines quite faint at 13dpo.

RachaelRed · 12/09/2020 09:51

@bloomety I hope it sticks for you x

Hi I've had early 3MC this year, first in Jan. Have been off forum sulking for a few months, but back today.
Got my bfp this week and started 400mg cyclogest morning and evening. They melt quite quickly and a LOT of white stuff pours out if you're stood up, looks like discharge but its greasy.
I do my morning one as soon as I wake up and try lie down for as long as possible, then the night one I do after the last wee of the night and then it's got the whole night to soak in. Still get it coming out in the morning, didnt realise how much til I caught a pot to poas this morning and there was loads in there.
Good luck!

RachaelRed · 12/09/2020 12:11

@pinkism congratulations on your BFP! Yes that sounds the same as me. I don’t think I’m pregnant unfortunately. Hopefully next month.
Good luck to you too!

@RachaelRed thanks, this bit is so hard, can't get my hopes up but one half of my head is thinking about maternity leave and telling everyone. Fingers crossed you are in the club very soon x

lenny12345 · 12/09/2020 14:16

Hi,

I'm currently taking 400mg 2 times a day. They advised once but I know this wouldn't be enough due to previous misscarriages. X

RachaelRed · 13/09/2020 21:17

Hi @lenny12345 thank you for responding :) I have my fingers and toes crossed it works for you.
I’m pretty certain that I’m not pregnant, af is due in 4 days (with other pregnancies I was feeling sore boobs etc by now). Does anyone know if Cyclogest will delay by period? I wonder if I should stop taking it to allow my period to happen naturally? My GP doesn’t know much :( so frustrating

bloomety · 14/09/2020 19:57

Hi @RachaelRed. My consultant said to stop taking it 2 weeks after ovulation to allow for period to come.

bloomety · 14/09/2020 19:59

Also I'm on 2 x 400mg a day. That was from 3dpo

bloomety · 14/09/2020 19:59

Did you ask your GP to refer you to a recurrent miscarriage consultant? They'd know more.

RachaelRed · 14/09/2020 21:44

Yeah I’ve stopped taking today - hopefully my period will come in next few days still :) I have my appointment next week with recurrent miscarriages consultant. I’m quite nervous and don’t really know what to expect. Preparing myself to be fobbed off. @bloomety have you been to see one?

OP posts:
bloomety · 14/09/2020 21:46

Yes i saw one. She ran lots of tests and that's how she discovered I had low progesterone and prescribed it from 3DPO. They can test to see if you have clotting problems and prescribe aspirin. Your consultant maybe decide you need to double your progesterone.

Do you take your BBT? That helped when she said I hadn't ovulated and I showed her my chart. She could see I had and so much just have had low progesterone.

RachaelRed · 15/09/2020 08:21

I do the old wee on a stick for ovulation. Perhaps that isn’t the best way? I was surprised when my GP said I’d not ovulated as the wee on the stick indicated that I had. I must be similar to you, ovulating but low progesterone?
X

The OPK tests just show that there is an LH surge. They don't confirm that you will ovulate just that the LH surge has taken place that triggers ovulation. When you take your temperate every morning, if you've ovulated then your temperature will rise by about 0.3 degrees. That and a scan is the only way to confirm it.

Here's one of my charts so you can see the rise in the second half of my cycle. I use the app Fertility Friend.
