When does luteal phase end? Spotting?

Hi everyone, after 4 CPs in 6 months and a quieter day in work, I have been driving myself mad with Dr Google. I suspect I may have a luteal phase prob as I do tend to spot before my period (this month I spotted at 10 dpo with period starting - proper blood - sorry TMI - at 15 dpo).

Is this an indication of a LP defect or given that I only start bleeding properly at 15 dpo I'm OK?

Any guidance would be great! Thank you!

I don’t know- but am exactly the same. Have had 3 full term pregnancies though, if that gives you any reassurance? Is this a new thing or a long term thing?

RoseGoldLove · 03/07/2020 15:13

I was on the pill for a very long time (from 16 to about 27), I'm 31 now and since then I have had this spotting.

That is reassuring - I think I am clutching at straws hoping that this is an easy issue to be fixed. I've been quoted £3.5k by a fertility clinic for all the tests so been trying to find answers via Dr Google!

I just feel a bit lost to be honest.

I’ve been advised ( not by a dr) that but b6 is very good for lengthening Luteal phase.

RoseGoldLove · 03/07/2020 17:09

I've got it ordered and on the way :)

@RoseGoldLove hi op I’m in the same boat as you and have just started the b vitamins. Did they work for you??

RoseGoldLove · 14/11/2020 23:26

@mommybear05 Hello! I am glad to say that this did actually work for me and I got pregnant the month I posted this. I’m currently 19 weeks and have my 20 week scan next week! Whether it was the vitamins or not I’m not really sure but it’s definitely worth a try! Wishing you all the best xxx

Hi @RoseGoldLove

Your post gives me hope, as I'm in the same boat. I start spotting around 12dpo for 2-3 days and then the period appears. May I ask what brand of b6 vit you got and how often you took them ?

Mommybear05 · 15/11/2020 07:39

@RoseGoldLove thank you for posting back. Congratulations on your lovely news and I hope that all is well at your scan next week. Another positive success story with b vitamins. I’m reading lots of them and trying not to get hopes up too much but it does sound really promising for lots of women with similar symptoms as me.
@Pinksworthy90 hi I spot 8-10 days post ovulation and have a luteal phase of around 12 days. Mc at nine weeks in March. Since then nothing but this awful spotting and a cp last month. I’ve started h and b vitamin b 50mg, b12 500ug and a complex this month. Been on it about a week now.

RoseGoldLove · 15/11/2020 10:52

I got everything from Holland and Barrett and that month I tried (all one a day)

  • solgar ubiquinol (supposed to help egg quality)
  • Holland & Barrett Vitamin B6 100 Tablets 100mg
  • Pregnacare conception (him and her)

The ubiquinol is expensive but after what I’ve been through I think just wanted to try anything!

I hope this helps you all!!!

@Mommybear05 Sorry to hear about your MC. I had a MMC too in the month of May at 9-10 weeks, so I know how it feels. I have started to realize only recently that there might be a problem with my LP, as I tracked my ovulation last month. I ovulated around 17-18 dpo and spotting starting at 28th day might not be a good indication.

@RoseGoldLove Congratulations !! so pleased that it worked for you.

Thanks for both of your recommendations. I'm going to order Vit B6, and Co-Q10 and hope it makes some difference.

Mommybear05 · 16/11/2020 12:35

@Pinksworthy90 sorry to hear of your mc too. It’s horrible. Do U mean you ovulated cd 17-18? Spotting 10 days post ovulation? For me I’ve been spotting 8-10 days post ovulation each month. Luteal phase around 12-13 days. I’m currently 8 dpo. No spotting yet. Really hoping it helps that I’ve had the vitamins! I’ve got a gynaecologist appointment Wednesday but not holding too much hope. From what I’ve read many times they often say it’s not a problem but I would like to be pleasantly surprised. Also got a pelvic scan arranged for the new year

Pinksworthy90 · 16/11/2020 14:02

Sorry, I think I didn't use the abbreviations correctly. Yes, I meant I ovulated CD 17-18 (2nd -3rd Nov) and the spotting started on 13th this month, which makes it 10-11dpo. I'm still spotting expecting a full flow tomorrow or day after.

Fingers crossed the vitamins work for you this month. I agree with you that most GPs don't consider it as a problem.

How long have you been trying if I may ask ? We are trying since the start of this year, fell pg within 4 months, but that ended in MMC. I read how you are more fertile and how it happens quickly after a MC, but it seems to be taking ages for me.

Busybee93 · 16/11/2020 21:19

@RoseGoldLove I used to spot before my period when I took Pregnacare. First month off it and only on folic acid and no issues! I'm sure the various vitamins must have wreaked havoc with my body and it got confused.

Pinksworthy90 · 17/11/2020 11:28

@Busybee93 The pregnacare has apparently messed up the cycles of a lot of ppl as read in the reviews, including mine. So I stopped taking them and started supplements with folic acid only.

Mommybear05 · 21/11/2020 08:47

@Pinksworthy90 hey did you get your full flow this month?? I’ve been trying for a while. After my son was born we’ve used no contraception at all and he’s two next month. But I did breastfeed for 17 months and that can stop your cycles. And since my mc in March it’s been eight months.
This cycle I’m on cd 30 and 13dpo. No spotting yet! I think the vitamins are helping, even if I start bleeding in the next few days they’ve helped because before I would spot 7-9dpo and have a 10-12 day luteal phase.

Pinksworthy90 · 21/11/2020 13:14

@Mommybear05 Hi, Ohh that's a good news !! Hope yours will be another positive story. I finished my AF couple of days back. Although I have spotting initially, the flow will be heavy when it starts. Got my vitamins after AF so been taking them. I would have to see this cycle what effects they have on my spotting. How much mg of Vit B6 are you taking ? I'm taking 50 mg currently. Hope that helps me.

Mommybear05 · 21/11/2020 13:18

@Pinksworthy90 You’re gearing up to the next fertile window now then. Good luck. I’m on 100mg of the b6 it’s from Holland and barrett and I’m taking two 50mg tablet a day as it says on the side of the pack. Also taking b complex to help my system absorb the vitamin b.

Pinksworthy90 · 21/11/2020 13:27

@Mommybear05 Thank you. Ohh you have researched it really better then. Good luck to you too. Keep me posted about your status. I love seeing BFPs 😊

Mommybear05 · 21/11/2020 13:35

@Pinksworthy90 I’m feeling positive this month. The last two days I’ve had the nausea I recognise from being pg with my son. They say the b vitamins cause nausea but my nausea didn’t start when I first took them. But I’m trying not to think about it too much. And I want to wait until next weekend to test, until I’m a week late if I get that far. That’s how I did it with my son. And after my chemical last month if that’s going to happen again I’d rather not know.

Pinksworthy90 · 21/11/2020 14:31

@Mommybear05 Wow, the symptoms look promising 🤞 I know what you mean. Some months, I would be totally convinced I'm pregnant, but it's just the PMS symptoms. It's better to avoid testing until AF is missed. I do the same and save myself from becoming an obsessive lady.

Pinksworthy90 · 27/11/2020 07:44

Hey @Mommybear05, how are you getting on ? Did you test ? I'm still due to ovulate and not getting obsessed as of now.

Mommybear05 · 27/11/2020 08:07

@Pinksworthy90 yes I tested... bfp!!! I was not going to test until this weekend but I was feeling really poorly and having been pregnant before I knew the signs. So I had dh go and get a test! And it came up bfp! It’s still early days as I’m five weeks today.
So, to summarise, For people of the future and now, vitamin b 12, b6 and complex worked for me. I went from spotting at 8 days po and a 10-12 day luteal phase to no spotting at all and my bfp after taking these for less than one cycle! Definitely won’t work for everyone but I’ve seen many successes online with this and I can confirm it definitely works for some people! I wish I had tried this earlier! And there’s no harm as they are water soluble and will pee out any excess!! Good luck xxx

When does luteal phase end? Spotting?
RoseGoldLove · 27/11/2020 08:27

Oh congratulations @Mommybear05 such wonderful news! Wishing you the best of luck. I had my 20 week scan last week and all went ok thankfully! So happy for you!

Mommybear05 · 27/11/2020 09:12

@RoseGoldLove congratulations! So glad to hear that things went well for you. Did you find out the gender? It’s so nerve wracking as I too have suffered mc this year. I had a blighted ovum back in March so this time I’m so scared, but I’m feeling very sick, even at an earlier time that I felt sick with my son so I’m taking that as a good sign of progression. I’m hoping for a reassurance scan before Christmas x

RoseGoldLove · 27/11/2020 09:23

@Mommybear05 we’ve gone for a surprise as it’s our first baby and just think you don’t get many surprises in your life!

I’m still absolutely terrified every day but last week was a big relief. I paid for private blood tests to check my hcg levels around 4-5 weeks and then I got a private scan as soon as I was 6 weeks just for peace of mind. I then had some bleeding so ended up having another at 7 and at 9 on the NHS too. So it was a very bumpy road to start! Still don’t think I’ll relax until I have this baby in my arms.

All you can do is take it day by day!
