Hi @Plm28

Good advice from @SaraVB - just a few things to add - switch to decaf tea and coffee if you can. Also I would suggest taking vitamin D3 as well as folic acid. I've been TTC for a while so under observation from a fertility clinic, and these are the two vitamins the specialist suggested. You may have seen earlier discussions about pre-conception vitamins, some of us take them and some of us don't. I took pregnecare for a year or so, but I don't anymore since I read about the possibility of delaying ovulation, as I already have longer cycles. It might be worth your partner taking supplements though. My DH takes Proceive for men and there has been an improvement in the shape of his sperm since taking them. As @SaraVB said - there is no such thing as tmi here!!

When using clearblue digital OPKs do you test more than once a day? In the instructions it says you can test more after you have flashing smiley. If I just test in the morning, could I potentially miss the lh surge? I do have some super cheap tests, so I'm thinking I will use those twice a day and maybe use the clearblue to double check if I think I get a positive. Also those using the digital ones do you always test with fmu? I read lh surge doesn't happen until later in the day. I'm so confused 🤔

ALew15 · 02/07/2020 10:56

When I've been using the CB OPKs I always use FMU. When I had a day or two of flashing smilies I then tested about 6pm also. I got my static smiley on an afternoon test on the 8th day (CD14) hope this helps x

ALew15 · 02/07/2020 10:56

Sorry @Bam27 that was for you. Forgot to tag xx

SaraVB · 02/07/2020 11:12

@Plm28 I think everyone starts off with the same idea and it seems to quickly be replaced by a lot of planning and testing!

Sorry not sure about the app.. I wasn't using contraception for quite a long time when I started TTC (most of the ones with hormones in them cause migraines for me).

Bam27 · 02/07/2020 11:22

@ALew15 thank you! That's really helpful! Think I will do the same. Hopefully I don't use too many tests😊

Poppyismyfavourite · 02/07/2020 13:27

@Daffodil21Thanks for letting me whinge, sorry for being so pathetic! I feel much better today :) and truly grateful again!

@Plm28 I found BBT (basal body temperature) tracking very helpful - i did it for a couple of months and it was really interesting to see it vary throughout my cycle. And when I actually got pregnant it suddenly stayed very high which was interesting too, and now it is still high which I'm finding quite reassuring!

Poppyismyfavourite · 02/07/2020 13:29

@Plm28 also I'm a nerd and I just like measuring things :)

acaciabluebell · 02/07/2020 15:48

Hi girls! Phew I feel like I've had such a rollercoaster journey these past few weeks - quite a stressful start to my first month of TTC!

I started using the OPKs from CD10, predicted ovulation date was CD13. By CD15, all the tests were stark negative and I had absolutely zero discharge (like a desert down there lol!) so I thought I wasn't ovulating this month, gave up testing + DTD for a couple days.

I came back on CD18 and saw that there was an actual (faint) second line on the OPK, and I suddenly had the tiniest bit of EWCM! Lol. The next morning the test was still negative, but I started to feel left sided cramps. In the afternoon of CD19 I finally got a positive OPK! (I think!)

The following day CD20, I had really really severe
stabbing pains on my left hip area. Unfortunately DTD that day was soooo painful. It was genuinely so horrible, like my cervix was getting stabbed. Have any of you girls that get ovulation pain experienced this before? OPK went back to negative that day.

So that was my experience... Am I right in thinking that CD20 was ovulation day? The day after the peak OPK? Also am I supposed to keep testing or can I stop now?

I hope that I'm finally 1dpo and can just chill now lol. I can't believe I ovulated so late! My period would have been due in about 5-6 days. I could have avoided so much stress by just being patient 😂 Sorry for the really long post btw!

acaciabluebell · 02/07/2020 15:51

Oh and this is what the Premom app said. Honestly, this OPK business is so stressful, but I'm relieved that I seem to have ovulated. Not sure if I want to continue with the opks though if I'm honest!

Hi Ladies!!
I’ve followed this thread every day (and from the first thread too) but never jumped in. Feel like it’s my time, I hope you don’t mind as j would love to be involved instead of just logging in to read every night (saddo!!😂)
Recently decided to start TTC, probably last month! Although this is my second cycle as we missed the first! I’ve been off the pill for one withdrawal bleed and 2 periods now, so hopefully all good to go....

On CD13 and Flo is predicting my ovulation to be tomorrow, no sign of any Near positive OPKs and no EWCM yet so assuming that it’s wrong, as this is the first time I’ve ever tracked anything, I’ve no ideas how long my cycles are, I just know my period is every month.. so I’ll have a better idea after this cycle I suppose! We’re trying to DTD every night but sometimes it’s once ever 2/3 as in apparently putting him under to much pressure... eek.

Xox

ALew15 · 02/07/2020 16:56

@acaciabluebell so glad you got a Peak! I don't know about ovulation pains as I've never experienced them myself. Fingers crossed that AF doesn't show for you! I think you can stop testing now as you are in the TWW?

Hi @JTB123 welcome to the thread!
I would say keep going with the OPKs as you can see from @acaciabluebell post above that a Peak can come from nowhere! I think DTD every other day is more than enough in the lead up!

SVC11 · 02/07/2020 17:03

Hey @acaciabluebell yay looked like you got your peak and hopefully ovulated on cd20. Are you just coming off the pill, sorry if you have explained already, as it can make your cycles a but haywire to start. with. Good news though I am on ovulation day today too. Had really awful period like pains most of today but I know they'll go away tonight so woo good luck to us!

acaciabluebell · 02/07/2020 17:06

Hi @JTB123 and welcome to the thread! I'm also very new to this experience and had a very similar experience as you can see from my (superlong) post above... I was expecting to ovulate on CD13 but had stark negative (not even a second line) OPKs until CD18, when there was a slightly less faint second line. The day after that I suddenly got a positive OPK out of nowhere. If you look at the screenshot I posted of the app, it went from "low" to 'peak" all of a sudden.

I think maybe for some people their LH increases gradually whereas others have a sudden surge. Keep testing - you could definitely ovulate later than you expect 😊

acaciabluebell · 02/07/2020 17:08

@SVC11 ovulation pains are such a double edged sword aren't they! On one hand, they hurt, but on the other hand, it's nice knowing that your body is doing what it's supposed to! Good luck to all of us xxx

Daffodil21 · 02/07/2020 17:11

Hi @JTB123 don't worry I refresh this thread way too often 😂 it's nice to 'meet' you.

I use Flo as well. I think because it's your first month tracking it will just assume you have an 28 day cycle and ovulate around CD14 until you start using it for a while. Mine soon learned I do not have a 28 day cycle!

@acaciabluebell we all there is no such thing as relaxing from 1dpo!! But glad you've got positive OPKs.

Had a night off the 'on day' last night. At CD30 with no CB smiley I hardly think it will make any difference! Just could not be arsed quite frankly, so I was naughty and had a couple of glasses of wine instead. I was never really in with a shot this month so just waiting for AF whenever that may be and onto the next, and twentieth month. What a depressing milestone!!!!!

JTB123 · 02/07/2020 17:15

@acaciabluebell thank you I sure will! When do you gals think is the best time to test? Some forums I’ve read best in the morning then some say best in the evening?! Any advice? atm I’ve been doing it in the morning and like you said my lines are basically non existent!

@Daffodil21 bless you I’ve read all your history, must be really hard but you WILL get there! 20th time lucky! 🤞🏻💕

I’m just so impatient it’s ridiculous!

ALew15 · 02/07/2020 17:16

I just cracked and bought some FRER online. I haven't used these before, normally get the cheapy ones from B&M but they haven't been giving me the answer I want 😂 I will hold off testing until they arrive and possibly test Sunday or Monday. Fuuuuck I'm scared

Daffodil21 · 02/07/2020 17:23

@ALew15 when is AF due?? I'm excited it's nearly time for some testing on this thread! I always get a little excited if I see someone has posted in the morning in case it's a BFP!

@JTB123 oh no, you must think I'm a crazy person haha (I think I am a little now!). Thank you, I hope so, and for you too. I would recommend 'the impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant' by Jean Twenge. It's very funny but also helpful!

Wow it feels like years ago since I read that! Oh wait, it pretty much was...🙈🙈

OP posts:
JTB123 · 02/07/2020 17:32

@ALew15 that’s so exciting, I love the threads of people going through a rough time and then getting a BFP, so I cannot wait to hear if you do!

@Daffodil21 hahah great recommendation I’ll have a look! How funny I’ve read these for weeks and I feel like I know you all 😂😂😂

ALew15 · 02/07/2020 17:50

@Daffodil21 Apps are predicting Monday-Wednesday for AF but it turns up whenever it bloody wants. I feel like the TWW has gone quite quickly this month but I'm starting to obsess now. Think it's because I've been at home bored all day, need to occupy myself tomorrow.

Bam27 · 02/07/2020 18:57

Just been catching up and reading all the comments from today
@acaciabluebell are they one-step tests? I had some arrive yesterday. I only started using them today so can't offer you any advice but my test this morning was very negative, there was barely a second line and I should be ovulating soon as been having ewcm @JTB123 welcome to the thread! We never dtd every night unless I think I'm ovulating. We only do it every 2-3 days and then more when ovulating. Hopefully that's enough because I can't manage any more and neither can OH 😂

JTB123 · 02/07/2020 19:11

@Bam27 I’m also using the one step OPKs and feel like I’m going through them so quickly 😂 I think I’m going to start doing one in the evening instead now! And as for DTD you’re so right I’m getting so bored, we never had sex this often before and I preferred that 👀🤣 I think I will keep trying to get him to do it every day until I know when my O day is! Then after after that every other to every 3. 🤞🏻 X

Bam27 · 02/07/2020 19:32

@JTB123 I've only just started using OPKs. I've got the clearblue digital ones as well, and using the one step alongside. Think because I haven't used them before I want to be able to compare the results of both 😂 like I don't trust it. Also the one step are cheap enough that I don't mind using them twice a day and hopefully I won't use up too many CB ones that way. I know what you mean about dtd and i think it becomes more of a chore because both of you know the reason your doing it is for a baby on not necessarily because you actually want to do it at that exact moment, which I find makes it much harder to get in the mood.
