@chloedancer897 what tests did they do going private? I am thinking of using my medical insurance to get some done but not sure if it’s a bit soon. Was the process quick? xxx

chloedancer897 · 15/06/2020 15:00

@MichT4 I got bloods, swabs and a scan done. He timed it so I was about CD6-7 when I saw him and he could see the start of an egg coming on scan and my bloods confirmed that I was ovulating. My husband had semen analysis. I had the hysterosalpingogram which was clear too and he scanned me a further 2 times at different times during my cycle. He then put me on the list for IVF (he actually told a little fib and told them i had been trying for longer so I didn't wait as long to be seen- the benefits of private eh?) if you have the money, I recommend it. I had went to my GP before that and she was very dismissive. Said I already have 2 children and was under 40 so I'd be bottom list of priorities for fertility treatment.

chloedancer897 · 15/06/2020 15:00

@MichT4 sorry, I was seen within a week and all tests were done within 4 weeks so I had all my answers in a month

MichT4 · 15/06/2020 15:01

By the way, so I don’t sound mad for worrying so much when it’s only been 3 cycles since MC, it’s because in my 20’s I was diagnosed with PCOS. I managed to reverse it as I did a lot of work on it and found out it was stress related (so should be more careful) and subsequent scans and bloods said it was gone. My cycle came back so I assumed I’m all good to go but now I wonder if it’s creeped back somehow xx

VP91x · 15/06/2020 15:02

Wow @chloedancer897 that's a quick turnaround and lots of tests for the £280! Did you just search a clinic? Xx

@chloedancer897 thanks Hun, that sounds great. Will bear that in mind if I keep getting so anxious xxx

chloedancer897 · 15/06/2020 15:17

@VP91x I actually work in a hospital so I knew the consultant but that didn't make a difference with price. I don't know him that well! Lol honestly , you're just paying to get your foot in the door. The rest of the tests he billed the NHS for and I didn't have to wait. It was such a relief to know we were both fit and healthy and that neither of us had problems per say (other than the fact that his sperm seems disgusted by the thought of my egg!) I'm so glad I did it. It not much more than the money we all spend on OPKs, thermometers and grapefruit juice 😂

VP91x · 15/06/2020 15:20

@chloedancer897 yeah absolutely worth that peace of mind or getting the answers!! No idea thats how it worked. Definitely something for the future if it took longer! Xx

@MichT4 @VP91x it gets you a step closer to some answers and the benefit of going privately is that you don't have to wait for a year of trying. There's no reason why you have to, it's just that fertility services within the NHS are so stretched. You might get pregnant in the meantime but there's no harm in some scans and blood tests. The hysterosalpingogram is one that many spills said helped them to get pregnant as it clears any blockages in your tubes. It worked for 2 of my friends!

Eli2020 · 15/06/2020 15:44

@chloedancer897 this is really giving me hope! £280 for all these tests and peace of mind is so worth it! I think the fact that I don't know if I can get pregnant (i mean I got pregnant in March but lost it shortly after) is giving so much anxiety that I don't know if all this stress is not impacting me 🙁 I've always had quite severe anxiety unfortunately :( i have private insurance but I doubt it will cover anything. What was the name of the initial tests/appointment/foot in the door thing so that I can start looking for options near me?

chloedancer897 · 15/06/2020 15:50

@Eli2020 just google fertility specialist near me and see what comes up. The guy I picked is a consultant obstetrician in the hospital I work in so I knew he was reputable and trustworthy. They're usually all consultants. You pay for the initial consultation which is the biggest fee and he did charge me separately for the swabs and blood tests but it was just £30. If it gives you peace of mind or some answers I say go for it!

Hi everyone, I'm ttc after my missed miscarriage in April. AF came over the weekend so no luck yet. Has anyone had longer or heavier periods since their mc? I'm into my 2nd cycle since and mine are a day longer and more heavy than I've had for years. Not sure what's going on.

VP91x · 15/06/2020 16:16

@Lynz2020 welcome! 👋
Sorry you have had a loss recently, I'm definitely heavier on day 2/3 of my period now post-MC. Unless you are getting clots or anything I don't think it is anything to worry about. Are you tracking or anything this cycle? Xx

@Eli2020 Cycle 3 post mc and cycle 2 TTC - although we weren't super diligent last month. I'm going to slowly gear up. Date tracking/temp/keeping an eye out for EWCM to time the deed, plus eat right, exercise, grapefruit juice this month. And, of course, the FA that I just never stopped taking.

With the MC pregnancy I was using OPKs so I might invest if next month or the month after don't take. I was strict about only doing one a day but its so tempting! Smart to let go where you can, if it feels right for you not to buy more right now. You always can later. Forever trying not to drive myself crazy with ttc, but probably a lost cause!

We had to be stop-start last time because of work travel and risk of Zika so at least I don't have to worry about that right now...

I say be pushy with your doc. A lot of it is guidelines rather than rules and luck of the draw based on which GP you see on the day. Good luck! X

Banbi · 15/06/2020 16:21

Hi @Lynz2020 - welcome! Sorry for your loss. I had a MMC end of March. AF arrived today. I've had two periods since. Not heavier necessarily, but definitely at least 2-3 days longer so far. Let you know how I get on this month.

Lynz2020 · 15/06/2020 16:24

Vp91x its crazy how its changed because of the mmc. I get small clumps but I've always had that so dont think it's anything left over. I Used to get a sore chest a few days before too so I knew when to expect AF but now I dont, so it's a good job that i track myself. I've had the ovulation app and the test strips to keep ontop of what's going on.

mrsssk · 15/06/2020 16:37

@dbtj that's good to know. The
OPK today is still firmly on zero according to Femometer and Glow apps though but will still dtd just in case.

@micht4 that's good to know but I really do hope it takes sooner than 2 cycles to come back. That feels like forever at the moment!
Definitely need to try and relax about the whole thing for a bit, I'm sure this stress I'm putting on myself is not helping at all

VP91x · 15/06/2020 17:01

@Lynz2020 it really makes you realise how much actually happens in early pregnancy and how it affects us long term, but I think with time it will re-settle. You never know really! Xx

Hi ladies think I'm out this cycle had some spotting this morning and then again just now 😭 which always happens before af. I'm just so fed up with it all now I think I'm going to take a break from ttc cause the disappointment every cycle is killing me. I just don't know what more I can do I feel like I throw everything into with no positive outcome!

VP91x · 15/06/2020 17:59

@HE88 gosh, I'm so sorry AF might be coming again. Did you test at all yet just to be completely sure? Xx

elliew818 · 15/06/2020 18:06

@Eli2020 it was hard and unfortunately not the first time for me, we lost our first back in June 2017 at 12 weeks as well. I think every MC hits you but was worse for me the first time because there are so many unknowns, so desperately wanting to be a parent and worrying your body is failing you. I can only say that I understand what you're going through. It will happen for you I'm sure, i fell pregnant with DS in January 2018 and now have a crazy toddler running around. It's just a matter of time and you'll be getting your BFP!

HopeForRainbowbaby · 15/06/2020 18:06

@HE88 which dpo are you? And have you done any tests? I'm sorry it looks like Aunt Flo has arrived. Still hoping it is implantation bleeding😘

HE88 · 15/06/2020 18:10

@VP91x and @hopeforrainbowbaby I did a test yesterday morning bfn told myself I wouldn't test but I did 🤦‍♀️. Would there even be a point in phoning the gp for advice. Xx

HE88 · 15/06/2020 18:11

@hopeforrainbowbaby I'm 11dpo xx

elliew818 · 15/06/2020 18:15

@Renna there's is nothing wrong with you I'm sure. It's very unlikely there is an underlying issue - that's why most tests have to happen after 3 MCs. It's a right kick in the teeth but sometimes it is just bad luck. I've had bad luck twice now...my consultant actually told me lightening struck twice in my case as I had two very different and rare foetal abnormalities in the pregnancies I lost.
Sorry I'm not trying to make it sound like it's about me - just trying to say sometimes it's really just shit luck and I know if I get a BFP that I'll be petrified it will happen again but I have hope that things will work out in the end for all of us. It makes me feel better sometimes to think that only the strong people are tested in life because we can handle it, and you'll make an even better mum because of that strength.
