BBT still above coverline after bleed. Help?

Evening all.

I am looking for some advice and opinions please. This is my first month tracking bbt but it hasn’t dropped before AF when I expected it to.

CD19 - Ovulation according to clear blue monitor
12DPO - very very faint line. Brown spotting.
13DPO - another faint line. Heavy dark red bleeding. Assumed AF or chemical pregnancy loss.
14DPO - brown spotting, no red.
15DPO - light brown spotting. Faint line, looks darker than before but still stupidly faint.

I’m really confused and unsure as to what could be happening.

Any help would be appreciated.

The drs just said to go to A&E if I experience any pain but other than that they didn’t have much to say about it. She actually said I know more than she does... sigh. Anyway, I don’t have any symptoms. Maybe mild cramps if I think about it but very mild.

Thanks

Kirsty xx

@AnxiousAnnie86 I guess I’ll see over the next few weeks but I’ve become anxious that it’s not going to confirm ovulation given it never dropped back to where it was last month xx

@kcf90 I've started temping this month and it's stressing me out a lot too. I've only got a half chart as ovulation isn't for about 5/6 days yet but my temps in follicular phase seem sooo high compared to how they're supposed to be!

Praying that it will rise and show ovulation xxx

@TTCgee sorry I didn’t get an email notification about your reply!

I do my temps in Fahrenheit rather than Celsius, it’s then easier to compare to others. What is your temp in farenheit? What time are you temping at on a morning? It does seem more frustrating than I ever imagined.

Mine is still up there and I wish I could understand why!!

Hi op I've had a quick skim through--my first question would be about how are you taking your temp? Orally or vaginally? I've tracked since October and it can be really really sensitive to small changes.
Is your sleep ok? Are you testing literally as soon as you wake? Not getting out of bed etc. If it's orally then mouth breathing when you sleep can affect it, along with alcohol the night before or if you've had a virus.
Try not to read too much into the first month, it's most useful when you've had a few months under your belt and you can start to look for patterns. Femometer app is pretty useful at telling you how good your tracking is too x

kcf90 · 24/05/2020 17:48

Hi @Sammyclaire22

Many thanks for taking the time to read through my story :)

I am taking my temp orally at the same time every morning, I set my alarm to wake me up. I don’t drink or anything but appreciate there are factors that could effect it whilst I am asleep.

I’ve attached my chart as at today. Had a sudden Lh surge this afternoon but no EWCM yet (although we BD this morning and I used a soft cup after for 6 hours so the Cm could have been mixed in without me noticing). I’ve been taking 2 EPO tablets a day but haven’t noticed much different to Cm yet. This is the first time using OpKs as I have been using a clear blue fertility monitor the last 6 months. Does the surge suggest I’m about to ovulate? Xx

From your opks yes, I'd say somewhere in the next day or two so get on it! No pun intended lol
If your bbt doesn't show a sustained rise in the next 3 - 4 days then maybe try using it vaginally to see if that makes a difference to your temps? Good luck this month x

kcf90 · 26/05/2020 08:08

Hey everyone.

So apparently I ovulated yesterday based on opks, although my clear blue monitor is suggesting I’m ovulating today so who knows what to believe.

I really wish I’d never started charting bbt as this has been the most stressful month by far. I was so happy to see the rise last month to confirm ovulation and now I’m just a mess.

Using the opks added a whole new level to it as I didn’t realise my LH had a rapid onset. My clear blue machine gave me high results for over 10days before a peak. The opks were low right up until 5pm on Sunday, I peaked at 9pm and then back down again yesterday.

This is the most confusing journey. I am really confused and fed up xx

Hi @kcf90
I started tracking my BBT for the last month as well and feel I am in the same boat as you!
Currently on CD30 and my temp hasnt dropped yet although my cycles can be irregular. OPK's are coming back negative as well but did get a few positives earlier in my cycle.
I doubt I've conceived this month but the charting malarky is frustrating!!!

Sammyclaire22 · 26/05/2020 13:42

Big hugs kcf90- the first month tracking can be really stressful. Both ovulation tests might be right- as far as I know they pick up a lh surge after which ovulation can occur up to 48 hours after. And I'm sure they are probably different sensitivities.

If it's stressing you out then drop the bbt- if you are getting clear opks then it probably won't add much info and the whole process is stressful enough as it is!

kcf90 · 26/05/2020 18:58

Hi @Flutterby8. How are your temps looking? What kind of cycle length do you usually have? Mine are between 29 and 34 days.

@sammyclaire22 thank you so much, I could do with a hug! I started the bbt as I wanted to be sure I was ovulating and progesterone increasing. I was so pleased last month but now I am just worried. I’m hoping it will rise more tomorrow but what if it doesn’t? Does that mean I’ve not ovulated?

OP posts:
Flutterby8 · 26/05/2020 20:09

@kcf90 my cycles are irregular and can vary between 28 days and 36 days. Some months I'll be bang on 28 days like clock work then randomly a 34 day stint will pop up. No idea why.
Today is day 30. I have very sore boobs, the odd cramp and i feel a bit tired, all of which would be normal PMS symptoms (maybe minus the severe boob pain).
I've attached my chart, hoping someone may say it looks normal!

BBT still above coverline after bleed. Help?
Sammyclaire22 · 26/05/2020 20:26

@kfv90 it might rise, or it might take a day or so. Mine were always a few days to go up so don't stress. And just remember it's supposed to help you, if this month is a dud month then ignore it- you've had opks and if you have dtd then it's most likely you've ovulated and temping or not won't change that fact. Ironically the one month I took a break from tracking each day (it was affecting my sleep- I was waking up early worrying about temping before my LG woke!) I conceived so I don't have a chart to compare lol. Sending lots of hugs!

Sammyclaire22 · 26/05/2020 20:27

@flutterby8 it looks OK to me- ideally I think my app prefers temps to be slightly more consistent but it shows a biphasic pattern. I think it's supposed to be 16 days after the rise indicates a high chance of pregnancy but I'm not sure how irregular cycles fit into that x

Flutterby8 · 26/05/2020 20:37

Thanks for replying @Sammyclaire22!
I have no idea how irregular cycles fit into these trends to be fair. Somewhere I read about elevated temps for 14-16DPO was a good sign, but then as I don't know my cycle length, I dont know how late I am 🤦🏼‍♀️
If I was on a normal 28 day cycle I'd be 2 days late now.
Its so difficult to know what it normal, abnormal, good or bad when it comes to tracking!!

Sammyclaire22 · 26/05/2020 20:47

Is your cycle normally long before you ovulate? If so then I'd say the 14-16dpo would work. But if you have a long luteal phase normally or if you don't know when you normally ovulate then maybe ignore it, or if you are late, test? I guess bbt will help clarify it for you if this is your first month temping, but I would wait until you have a few months before looking for trends.

I'm a serial poas though so always test if I'm in doubt as I would rather know bad news now rather than waiting. I'm still testing everyday and I'm almost 5 weeks incase I have another chemical!

Flutterby8 · 26/05/2020 20:59

@Sammyclaire22 I'll be honest, this is my first month tracking BBT and using OPK's so I don't actually know when I ovulated previously.
I used to track my periods on my calendar but that was it. Having been off the pill for 2 years I figured I should start tracking everything better so I can work things out a bit.
I think I will give it til the weekend then do a test. I got so caught up before with symptom spotting and testing then being disappointed.

Sammyclaire22 · 26/05/2020 21:40

Ahh yeh will prob take a few months to be able to work out what's going on then. I found out I ovulated earlier than I thought--often about cd10 so think I was missing it some months.
You def have more will power than me! I regularly got caught up thinking I am pregnant and used poas as a reality check so I could forget about it for another day. The tww is so hard x

Sunshinelove8 · 27/05/2020 08:08

Hi KCF90 , I’ve seen this before on another forum I used to be on. The woman had this for months - where she’d ovulate but stay above the cover line afterwards. We were trying to help her figure out what was happening . She went to her gp but no joy. We still don’t know why her body did this but she fell pregnant in month three of this pattern so it wasn’t affecting her fertility. We could see on bbt where she was ovulating every month as there would be a slight drop then rise but it would never drop down below the cover line afterwards until the next ovulation when it might drop briefly (sometimes it stayed high and dropped a little above the cover line) She was good at bbt and slept well , didn’t drink and woke up at the same time each day so there wasn’t a question on her technique for bbt
We thought originally she could be one of the rare cases where hcg cannot be detected even though you are in fact pregnant, her scan showed this wasn’t the case though .
Similarly to you she was getting positive opks etc too .
She didn’t really push her GP to refer her and just put up with it and then fell pregnant! She’s having her baby in a couple of months so all is good
There must be a name/reason for it she didn’t push to find out but I wanted to reassure you that it seems to make no difference to fertility . Just keep trying when you see ovulation and try not not to get stressed . Personally , I’m so nosy and want info on everything so would probably want to know what causes this etc but I’m not sure anyone will know ! I went to a top fertility clinic and the consultant said I hadn’t ovulated but my bbt chart said I had and I fell pregnant that month so I kinda think we know more than experts on some of this stuff and they don’t always really get the bbt charts ! X

kcf90 · 27/05/2020 08:46

@Flutterby8 your cycles sound like mine but my dr said they wouldn’t class them as irregular as I have 1 every month and the cycle length, although varies, is within the normal range. So don’t worry about that too much. Your chart does show a biphasic pattern so that’s good.

I had read about 18 high temps meaning pregnancy but given the month I had, I would say nothing is normal for anyone. Mine only dropped below my last coverline once or twice in the recent days!

@Sammyclaire22 A massive congratulations to you! That’s amazing news! Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

My bbt rose up again slightly today so I’m feeling a little better! I’m 2dpo according to my app. I really hope this is the month. I turn 30 next week and it would be amazing to see that little line. It’s just such a rollercoaster of hope, disappointment and confusing.

@sunshinelove8 hey!! Thank you so much for having a read through and letting me know about this ladies situation. It definitely sounds very similar to my experience. I dropped slightly right before ovulation and now it’s crept back up. It was just so hard at the beginning of the cycle as I wanted to believe I was pregnant but not getting positive hcg tests, I wanted to be one of those rare cases. But I had to stop thinking like that and concentrate on the next cycle. I’m now back in the 2ww. My dr was no use either and told me that I knew more than she did. I just have to wait for a referral before I can get any real understanding, for now it’s all about research and asking around. It’s good to hear that someone had a similar chart and was able to conceive. Thank you :)

Here is my chart today xx

Thanks @flutterby8, it's been a long road and still a way to go to be sure all is OK but just conceiving is a big hurdle crossed.

I've just had another look at your chart and noticed it keeps the previous month on there and bases your cover line on all your results. I used the femometer app and it changed it based on that month only, on your cd1- predicted ovulation. Just wondered if trying a different view might help? I can see if I can find one of my old charts to demo x
Plus with femometer there is the option of overlaying your chart on other charts from women so it's easier to see if it's following certain patterns x

Sammyclaire22 · 27/05/2020 09:12

This was my chart from a random month. If it used my average post ov temps too I think my line might look odd x

@kcf90 my cycles are weird to say the least! I spoke to my GP about it a while ago as early menopause runs in the family etc. I had blood tests and they were normal. Still not happy a few months later, I went back and I was sent for more bloods (not progesterone) and an ultrasound to rule out PCOS. Again, all normal, only thing they found was my uterus sits pointing backwards. But apparently this is fine.
Now CD31 and my temp is still up. Holding off testing as this could be a 'normal' cycle for me 🤷🏼‍♀️
Part of me wishes I didnt start charting!

Flutterby8 · 27/05/2020 09:20

@Sammyclaire22 thanks for looking at my chart again! I've been using Fertility Friend and really liked the layout and all the info it gave you. However, I didnt realise alot of it was just a free trial so the info side of it has now stopped, unless I pay, which I dint want to do!
I do have the Femometer app as I used it briefly to record my OPK's but didnt use it for anything else because initially I had 3 apps onnthe go to see what I liked best 😂
Would it be worth moving all my data into it and seeing what it shows going forward?

Flutterby8 · 27/05/2020 10:09

Managed to hit post before I meant to there! And realised my fat thumbs have made terrible spelling errors 🙈
Either way, I put just the temp and OPK data into Femometer just now just to have a look to see....
I think I will continue to use this going forward for a while!

Sammyclaire22 · 27/05/2020 11:10

Ahh see that looks more normal to me... But that might just be because I'm used to the view lol.
I used the free femometer version for a few months then upgraded to the prime when it was on offer. It also carries on into a pregnancy app which I didn't realise so that's good. I use a load of diff apps too! I still have ovia and clue but I've not used them as much the last few months, it's overload otherwise!
