Any buddies trying SMEP for the first time this cycle?

Hello all!

I am 26, and trying for my first baby. I'm currently on CD4 of Cycle 3. After two cycles of only DTD a few times in fertile window and no result, DH and I are going to give the Sperm Meets Egg Plan a go this cycle.

For those who don't know, the plan goes like this:

-> From CD 8 DTD every other day until a positive OPK.

-> Start testing with OPKs daily from CD 10 (but I will be using earlier as O'd on CD11 last month!)

-> From positive OPK DTD on the day of the + OPK and two days after, then miss a day and DTD again the next day.

We will also be using pre-seed for the first time this month.

Is there anybody else who is doing SMEP this month? Or anybody who has tried it before successfully or unsuccessfully?

After the disappointment of AF arriving early, I'm excited to start a new cycle.

@cherrychatter I had actually told DH yesterday when I got my really faint FRER that I thought it was a positive. This morning I ran into the bedroom and made him look at the digi XD

I think he is in a bit of a state of shock. It's our first baby and he is taking a bit of time computing the fact that he is going to become a dad. He's happy though!

@VP91x I’m feeling a bit off today, down and really off my food. Everything I’ve eaten the last two days tastes off and it’s just frustrating. I think the TWW is getting to me at this point..

cherrychatter · 14/05/2020 17:16

@HopeWish I can only imagine he's in a bit of shock! It's a massive deal but of course he's thrilled too. Lots of excitement to come.

@gingerglitter4ever you're half way! You can do it 💪🏼 strange your tastebuds are off though!

@VP91x not too bad today. I keep getting a slight twinge/dull feeling in my stomach but I honestly just think it's whatever I've eaten!! Xx

VP91x · 14/05/2020 17:27

@gingerglitter4ever ahh you have about 7 days until you test dont you? You're almost there! I'm sorry you're feeling down today though 😔😔

Like @cherrychatter said strange that you've gone off your food. Have you had any other possible symptoms? Try and watch something to cheer you up tonight like a good film maybe? Xxx

gingerglitter4ever · 14/05/2020 17:42

Thanks @cherrychatter and @VP91x 💕
I have sore bbs (since about 3DPO and progressing), bbs looking more veiny today, this stupid food thing, increased cm (like the feeling you get when you have period spotting, like leaking, but it’s cm) and I’ve had a bit of headache yesterday and today 🤷🏼‍♀️
Any thoughts?

Seafrontsky · 14/05/2020 17:56

Oooh @gingerglitter4ever sounds quite promising!
Headache, off food, veiny bbs....

VP91x · 14/05/2020 18:00

@gingerglitter4ever that does sound promising for sure!! Xx

gingerglitter4ever · 14/05/2020 18:14

Okay ladies I need some advice haha
I just double checked FF and this cycle for some weird reason it’s calculating my cycle days at a total of 30?? And on average they’ve been pretty consistent at 27 since I took out my IUD.. if I look at CD only, I should be due AF in two days... but FF is saying next Tuesday. What?! Should I test this weekend then? I’m so confused 🧐

gingerglitter4ever · 14/05/2020 18:15

@VP91x and @Seafrontsky awesome, crossing my fingers!

VP91x · 14/05/2020 18:19

@gingerglitter4ever I would say test when you think AF should be due from your calculations? Even if it is a couple of days early a FRER should pick it up hopefully xx

GiraffeInScarf · 14/05/2020 19:49

Evening ladies 😊

Thank you again for all the good wishes, can’t tell you how much it means to share the journey with you and there will be more BFP’s to come I’m sure 😊

@serialplanner don’t give up yet, I know it’s easier to feel prepared for bad news, not knowing is so emotionally draining. Not long to go now, and I’m hoping for you 🤞🏻🙂

@SmileyT I think it’s worth a test tomorrow if there’s potential for wine 😬 I’m rooting for you too, you’re right on my level with the charts and stuff 😂

@Slug123 it was cycle 4 for us. Which is nothing compared to so many, but naturally to us it’s felt like forever. We weren’t hopeful about our chances from the start but still found it guttingly disappointing each month, we fully expected to go for tests after 6 months (I’m 36) and need help. We just stuck to giving each month our best, it’s all you can do after all. Hang in there, lucky months do happen x

@cherrychatter the sticks were definitely worth hanging on to! With your BBT chart, a one day small dip can actually be a good thing! Generally staying about 0.2 above cover line is ideal but there’s so much that can vary it, even if it’s been a colder night. Look more for overall patterns and trends and ignore the occasional ‘odd’ one, tho I know it’s hard when the first thing you want to do each day is know what the new reading means!

@gingerglitter4ever Do you know how many DPO you are? (I’ve lost track of everyone, sorry) I’d go more by that if you’re certain of o date, I’d be waiting until next Wednesday for my AF to be late (and have gone totally crazy too, you’re doing amazing!)

Hi @Littlebee1990 and @Slippingcareer 😊 SMEP is definitely worth the effort if you’re wanting to give it your best shot. Hard work but no matter what your cycle you know you’ve covered the most important days. Good luck 😊

gingerglitter4ever · 14/05/2020 19:58

@GiraffeInScarf I’m currently 12DPO/ CD25 with an strong average of a 27 day cycle. So I go by my average then AF is due in 2 days.. but maybe I’ll try to hold my urge to POAS until Sunday haha
So confusing

cherrychatter · 14/05/2020 22:41

Thanks @GiraffeInScarf will keep an eye on it, whilst trying not to keep too much of an eye on it!!

Hopefulmummie · 14/05/2020 23:15

Haven't been on this all day so alot to catch up on but congratulations to all the BFP (big fat positive)

So I got another rise in temp this morning and femometer has changed my ovulation day to cd16 when it was cd14 so I don't know what is going on??

SmileyT · 15/05/2020 05:32

Morning Ladies, forgot to update on here yesterday but I finally got my first ever BFN, followed by a tumble down the stairs 🙈 so I'm out for this month. Good luck to those still testing over the next week 🙌🏾 xx

Seafrontsky · 15/05/2020 07:25

What day are you on now @Hopefulmummie? Femometer sounds confusing if it changes days for ovulation and AF around? Presumably it bases it on something?

Ah that's a shame @SmileyT, but there's still time if you're not due AF yet? Also...fall down the stairs?! Are you ok?! Sounds painful!

cherrychatter · 15/05/2020 07:39

@SmileyT hope you've not hurt yourself from the fall! Sorry to hear you got a BFN but there's still time. X

Littlebee1990 · 15/05/2020 07:45

Trying SMEP for first time, CD16 and still not had a positive OPK.. anyone had similar?

Hopefulmummie · 15/05/2020 08:12

@Seafrontsky I am cd21 and another temp rise this morning. That's 3 days in a row

cherrychatter · 15/05/2020 09:17

Hi @Littlebee1990 I got my +OPK on CD16 this time but other months it's been CD18 or CD24 so there's still time. There's also the potential your test has missed it. Are you testing once a day?

Littlebee1990 · 15/05/2020 09:28

@cherrychatter yeah using the CB one and they’re like £18 for 10.. can’t be doing that more than once a day 😂 if not luck this month I’ll get some cheapies and do twice a day I think! Thank you for the help x

Seafrontsky · 15/05/2020 09:52

@Hopefulmummie maybe because your temp didn't start to rise till CD18 that's why it thinks ovulation CD16? How long are your cycles? My acupuncturist did some work on my luteal phase because my temp wasnt rising quick enough and didn't give enough time for implantation. Think you need 14 days high temps but some other ladies on here might know for sure. Hopefully it was just a BBT blip and it will be fine?

@SmileyT at least there's ALL the wine to look forward to!

cherrychatter · 15/05/2020 09:54

@Littlebee1990 I know the feeling. I use the clearblue fertility monitor and the tests are ridiculously expensive. It only lets you test once a day anyway but I use an IC late afternoon as a back up. There's still time for your O to appear! X

SmileyT · 15/05/2020 16:46

@Seafrontsky @cherrychatter yeah I'm all good, a tad bruised and a banging headache but don't think I got concussion so small mercies 🙏 I know there is a chance but tbh I tested this morning at 13dpo and still BFN so I'm having ALL the wine and the squashies I couldn't finish last night after the pizza 😋. I expect AF on Sunday so I'm having a weekend off thinking about it as think that's best for my mental health, then start again on Monday xx

@Hopefulmummie I thought that femometer might move your ovulation date based on your chart and as you had your LH peak on 14th and 15th( if my memory is good), 16th makes more sense to me xx

cherrychatter · 15/05/2020 17:05

I understand @SmileyT , I'd feel the exact same way. Enjoy the wine, sweets and all the things you want over the weekend!! Glad you're not too battered, an indulgent weekend is required 😉 x
