This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

@Avocuddles bless you, thanks so much - I've already ordered mine tho cos I snapped up the same deal as @MrsMGE! Thanks for the offer though (and loving the pun). We'll let you all know how it goes, you lucky things 😂😂

@BunnytheBlueWhale thank you for adding me on the other thread. I felt very cheeky joining this one when I saw how long the other one had been going, but you've all made me feel so welcome x

I am just on my way to work - a bit late in today as worked v late last night. Have spin class at 6pm, but DH and I have a Groupon voucher for a burger and milkshake (each lol) afterwards so I am going to enjoy that Smile

MrsMGE · 23/01/2020 11:15

Thanks for your wisdom ladies! @tortiecat and I shall duly report back next month 😂

I burnt over 2,500 calories yesterday and did 11,500 steps just through going out on my lunch break, walking to the train station (that's about a 20 min walk both ways) and a 15 min HIIT session. For an office job, I don't think that's a bad result?! It's actually not as hard as I thought to burn this amount. I've already burnt 1,300 today and it's my day off exercising. I'm chuffed 😀

What's everyone planning for this weekend? Xxx

MrsMGE · 23/01/2020 11:19

@tortiecat I had such a craving for a nice burger last week! DH and I made "naked burgers" at home, with some coleslaw and homemade chips and omg...I loved them! I think we'll venture out to one of the nice burger places at some point next month! I love a bit of beef every couple of weeks when I eat healthy, I nearly feel like my body is telling me it needs iron (I know it sounds stupid, but I really do!). Then this feeling goes away, it's so random 😂

BunnytheBlueWhale · 23/01/2020 11:22

No problem @tortiecat Milkshake and burger sounds lovely!

I had half healthy / half unhealthy breakfast of a banana and Frosties but only because I’m home today (I now work from home one day a week) and plan to go for a run at lunchtime so the sugar will probably help!

@MrsMGE Thats not bad! I always found it easy to get my steps in too as I walk from the car to the station then from station to work (and back) and try to have a walk at lunchtime if it’s not wet but I sometimes have to try to avoid the shops so I don’t spend!!

OP posts:
MrsMGE · 23/01/2020 11:25

@BunnytheBlueWhale I know the feeling, this week I've been walking around local parks and slightly outside the city centre, otherwise the shops are just too much to resist sometimes!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 24/01/2020 08:16

Morning ☀️

@MrsMGE I really am trying not to spend unnecessarily. I have always been one to treat myself but I think I’ve mentioned I’m trying not to buy lunch out everyday snd just generally not buy things just because it’s on offer or I think “oh I need that” because I’ve seen it on amazon. I’m getting better but I’m still buying things I want eg bought two pairs of boots in the last week or so. DH only saw one of them but still was like “I thought you weren’t spending” 🤔

Hope everyone else is ok. I’m pleased it’s Friday! Thinking I’m having Pizza Express 🍕 or a Byron burger 🍔 for lunch 😬

Afternoon all! Just messaging you all on my lunchbreak... working at home so it's homemade lentil curry with a little naan for lunch today :) Very jealous of your pizza / burger @BunnytheBlueWhale. Yesterday's Groupon burger was disappointing but the milkshake was wonderful.

It's a boring weekend for me @MrsMGE. I've got barre tomorrow morning (cue Miranda-Hart-esque co-ordination from me and judgey looks from everyone else!) and potentially yoga on Sunday but other than that it's just catching up with some work, doing some laundry and pottering around. How about you?

MrsMGE · 24/01/2020 13:36

Hey @tortiecat! I'm doing a 30 min Zumba Strenght workout this eve, found it on YT and apparently it's brill looking at the comments. They've changed the time for the zumba class at the gym again and it's rubbish, so I needed a replacement.

I've lost more weight! 0.5kg (1 pound) this week, it's not much considered how much I've been on the move, but I'm finally out of the plateau. I look and feel a lot better, so I'm cracking on.

Nothing exciting planned for this weekend, I'm seeing my friend in the morning tomorrow and DH is out in the eve, so I'm thinking what to do. Might have a nice bath and read a book... or watch some trashy TV, but that might encourage me to have snacks, so probably the former 😂 xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 24/01/2020 15:30

@tortiecat I had a Byron burger today and that was lovely! 🍔

Got these in M&S (not that today has been a healthy day)

Evening ladies, hope you all have a good / relaxing weekend ahead....

@BunnytheBlueWhale let me know what the oat bars are like, might be one to add to the shopping list. I'm jealous of your Byron burger, great choice!

@tortiecat what flavour milkshake did you go for? I like your 'Miranda-esque coordination' comment - I often associate myself with her as I have two left feet and am extremely clumsy though I'm probably about a foot shorter!

@MrsMGE well done with the weight loss. A relaxed weekend sounds good. What book do you have on the go at the moment?

I've been pretty unhealthy this week. I was down at a big trade fair in London on Tuesday and Wednesday and ate a lot of unhealthy food, though not drinking alcohol probably saved me a huge amount of calories vs my colleagues! I did get a lot of steps in whilst I was there but probably not enough to counteract a mc Donald's, huge curry, rocky road.....and the list goes on! Back in the office we had free Chinese food today and free biscuits yesterday and my willpower cracked at both. Tomorrow is a new day and I'm looking forward to planning some healthier meals and lunches for next week and hopefully regaining the resolve to turn down a snack!

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 07:15

Morning all! I couldn't sleep this morning so bounced out of bed and straight onto Mumsnet. Why don't I have this much-needed energy on weekdays?!

@MrsMGE congratulations on the weight loss and leaving behind the plateau! You have been doing loads of steps and exercise recently so good on you. I weighed myself just now - I have also lost a pound, maybe a direct result of wearing my breakfast instead of eating it?! Grin I might have a look on YouTube for a Zumba video tomorrow.

@BunnytheBlueWhale mmmm I love Byron burgers! how are you finding your yoga videos? I struggle with not doing yoga in a class, as I get bored and wander off.

@Avocuddles I had a chocolate milkshake - chocolate sauce blended with vanilla ice cream, topped with cream with a little brownie on top! So nice, and I think I savoured it a bit more as I've been eating a lot more mindfully recently (thanks to you all on here).
I think we are all at least a foot shorter than Miranda, however tall we are! I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but I find her hilarious and very endearing. That sounds an excellent week, food-wise... you have to have a few days off and enjoy yourself sometimes, especially in the early days of pregnancy, so I hope you enjoyed it! Who can resist a free Chinese?!

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 07:15

sorry @BunnytheBlueWhale posted too soon... I get bored and wander off usually, but is there a video you would recommend? x

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 07:58

@tortiecat I had a very odd problem yesterday, my eczema has randomly flared up at the back of my knee and it was so sore I couldn't do any exercise (gutted). Luckily I have a great ointment from my GP back from the time when I was pg and had an issue with eczema at the beginning. It seems to have disappeared now, so I'm trying this one this afternoon:

I had pancakes with Nutella last night as a treat meal! Think AF might be approaching, hence the chocolate craving. They were nice, but tbh I didn't find Nutella as nice as I used to before, a bit sickly and the meal made me feel heavy last night. Too many carbs. Anyway... I spoke too soon, I've lost another 0.5lb bringing my total loss this year to... 6lbs!!! 🎉🙌🥳 I am grinning like the Cheshire Cat here, did not expect this result this morning! Only weighed to see the post-pancakes damage and boom!

@tortiecat I love Miranda too, I catch myself dropping the quotes from the show into my conversations or using her tone of voice. I love it when people have never watched it and don't realise 😂 DH and I speak fluent, what I call, Miranda, though 😂 I shall welcome you every day on here with "What have you done today to make you feel proud?" 😀

Have a lovely weekend ladies!!! Be pleased to know that you've made me book a burger place for Valentines Day! Needed an excuse to eat a good burger and nothing screams love more than a piece of beef! DH agrees 😂 xxx

MissSparkles81 · 25/01/2020 08:09

Morning all ... so yesterday was a disaster day eating wise. I had a breakdown in work as really struggling with everything and just feeling so overwhelmed with getting back on top of my caseload. I had a half day anyway so came home and ate my way through a share bag of crisps and then mini eggs and then we had some crap news from the bfs solicitor about access arrangements for this weekend. We ended up going out for dinner too.

Actually scared to stand on the scales as its just generally been a rotten week food wise.

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 08:10

@Avocuddles Angela Duckworth, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perserverance (timely). A very interesting book from a professional and personal perspective. I went to a talk with Duckworth few years ago at a literary festival and she was mind blowing. I recommend.

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 08:15

@BunnytheBlueWhale I see you're a fan of DE now 😊 Saw your post on the other thread... I put my headphones in when someone around me is having an annoying conversation and pretend I'm doing some serious drafting (at times I am, actually). Works every time!

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 08:17

@SheFliesOnHerOwnWings How was the meeting yesterday? Have been thinking of you xx

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 08:51

@MissSparkles81 Hugs ❤️ Don't feel you need to be a little miss perfect and cope with everything. In reality, is there anything you can do to make your workload a bit easier to deal with? Either do a phased return, or let go of some other things you do outside work just to have some breathing space for a bit? Sleep more? Make sure you take a break and walk outdoors every day? I find little things help when everything seems to be overwhelming all of a sudden, as long as you stick to them every day. A pause to take stock and look after yourself is what will see you through and let you get back on top of things. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate all at once and no wonder you feel this way. I'm sorry to hear about your DP's situation, this must be very stressful. Do you think they might reach a sensible agreement at some point?

I wouldn't even weigh myself today if I were you. Just think today is a new day and do your best, whatever that is at the moment. Lots of small victories build a big one xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 09:05

@tortiecat Well to be honest.. I haven’t dont the yoga since Monday 🙈 on Monday I found it so dull and hard going and then on Tuesday I had an early seminar so didn’t do it and haven’t done it since... I might start again but not sure it’s for me

@MrsMGE Well I was in M&S buying snacks and saw the bars and thought I’d try them since the balls are so nice. I’m hoping I’m not disappointed! Earphones are avoid idea! I have the beats Bluetooth ones, which are invisible in my dark hair!

Morning all, Saturday is weigh in day and I've lost a pound. I'm happy with that as I didnt do much exercise and had a few bad moments this week. Saw my PT yesterday and we repeated a few things to see if I could beat my previous targets and I did so I am definitely getting fitter.

@tortiecat thank you for asking, that's very sweet of you. In all honesty it was rough. They moved it out of the maternity unit but only to the main hospital building so we still had to go to the same place which was so hard.

The consultant basically acknowledged some failings both towards the end of my pregnancy and when we were in hospital, in labour. We obv don't know if DD could have been saved but there were certainly missed opportunities to give her the best chance which was very hard to hear. I thought DH would be the angry vocal one but I ended up voicing my anger more, especially when he talked about future pregnancies and that they were grateful we'd decided to be cared for by them in the future. I told him I'd lost all faith in the hospital and didn't know if I wanted to go back there, that it was hard enough coming into the town and hospital, let alone going into the matenity unit. Anyway it was good to get some answers but we are pretty angry now, we may take it further and get some legal advice. We will wait for the hospital and HSIB investigations and see if they recommend any changes. We just don't want this to happen to anyone else.

DH and I are going to try to do some nice things today. We may go to the cinema later. After all the burger and pizza talk I might treat him to a Byron Burger or five guys, he loves that place.

I have my restorative yoga tomorrow afternoon. I'm a bit nervous after crying in a 'normal'yoga class at the gym in the week, I suspect this will be much more emotive but I'm going with one of my closest friends who knows the teacher and has given her the heads up about DD. It's a small class and I'll set up at the back in case I need to dive out. It's not normally my sort of thing but if it helps relax me I'll give it a go. X

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 13:37

@Shefliesonherownwings I hope you’re doing as ok as can be. Those meetings are tough and it must be especially tough if you feel you and your DD could have been better looked after. I think getting a burger and seeing a film is a lovely idea xx

Summary: loving my TomTom watch and excited to be running again!

I have found my TomTom watch! Well DH found it for me. It’s nearly new as I had a problem with it (maybe the strap broke? 🤔) and I took it back to John Lewis, who replaced it with a new one, and then I didn’t run much after that as I’d injured myself doing the half marathon 😬

So I just charged it and connected it to the app and I’m excited to use it!

I’m also really enjoying running again. I’ve only done a couple of short runs but I love it and want to do more. I’m going to aim for a half marathon this summer but won’t sign up in case I can’t do it (I could get injured or pregnant - hopefully the latter!) but it’ll still be something to aim for if I put it in the diary. My hamstring injury does play up occasionally so I’ll see how I get on with distances...

Also the thing with running is I can just go out for half an hour or whatever I can manage whereas going to them gym just takes more time as it’s nowhere near home so I have to add on about an hour for travel...

Not sure about the daily yoga. I gave up quickly...

February is going to be a tough month with my DD’s first birthday and anniversary. I can’t decide whether to throw myself into the yoga and exercise or just go easy on myself. I feel fine but I am getting upset easily.

Sorry for the ramble.

OP posts:
MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 16:35

@BunnytheBlueWhale Excellent news! Well done you. 😊 Why don't you go easy on yourself and just take it day by day? You don't have to decide now about next month. One day you may feel like running and that's awesome. Another day you may feel like staying in bed in your joggers as it's a tough day. There's nothing wrong with that. We're not on a bootcamp, we're doing what's needed to feel better ❤️

MissSparkles81 · 25/01/2020 16:54

Thank you @mrsmge ... his ex is so far removed from sensible that we can't even speak to her. Its all going through lawyers etc and we have submitted court papers etc.

I did stand on the scales this morning ... dont ask me why but it said I was back up 3lbs! I know thats physically impossible but still sucks.

We are having a chinese tonight then taking the wee man swimming tomorrow so that should burn off a few calories 🤪
