This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

I also meant to say well done to everyone who has lost weight or just kept up the healthy eating and exercise. @Avocuddles those donuts look amazing!

tortiecat · 12/01/2020 16:27

@MrsMGE I love that you have an actual tortie cat!! I am very jealous - DH and I are currently cat-less as we can't have one where we currently live. Yours sounds adorable. Maybe if I had a cat that I could exercise with that would incentivise me? I am not sure any cat of mine would trust me to hold a plank long enough to go underneath though Grin

@Shefliesonherownwings your cat is gorgeous - it is lovely when they choose to bestow some affection on you, isn't it? I hope both the cat cuddle and the hot water bottle are helping with your cramps, and that you're having a relaxing day.

Well done you on the garlic bread restraint (I would eat whole loaves if I could). Which type of tofu did you use for your dinner, and is there a brand that you would recommend? I haven't cooked with tofu previously but would like to try it, I googled and there appear to be many different types?!

DH has informed me that we are going out for dinner this evening and that he has picked somewhere to surprise me. I am trying not to get too excited - it could be KFC for all I know, I think he's a bit confused by a wife that eats fish and veg and declines cake!

BunnytheBlueWhale · 12/01/2020 18:43

Hope you all had a good weekend ladies

I have been visiting DH family in the midlands (just for the day) so my food for today has been a banana, a Greggs gingerbread man, roast beef dinner and a lemon tart for pud 😬

@LASandOtto I was happy with my 1 mile on Friday! I did a half marathon in 2017 so I can run a bit but haven’t run for ages. I also did about 10 mins cardio in the gym yesterday followed by yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️ Walking is really gold exercise

@MrsMGE Sounds like you had a nice day! I haven’t been to VS for ages. There was one of their body mists that I liked and bought a lot (maybe Love Potion? Purple and fruity / peachy!) but I went off it probably cause I used it too much. I keep one in my gym bag now. I do have a pink (brand Pink and colour pink) quite soft and cosy and I wear it for yoga

@SunStruck What do you cook in the slow cooker? I’ve got one but not sure what I could use it for other than soup and stew? Maybe bolognese and chilli

I used to like HIIT classes at the gym but these days I work it in by doing HIIT on the cross trainer. Rather than just being in the cross trainer for 20 mins or whatever. I go easy and then for 15 seconds every minute or every other minute I go as fast as I can and then use the remaining 15 seconds to rest. I just look at the clock and when the seconds are at 45 seconds that’s when I go hard for 15 seconds... if anyone is interested...

I’m exhausted. DH is driving home now. Hoping to be home before 9 so I can have a bath and wind down before bed

Hiya everyone I hope you all had a great weekend! I had my 1st weigh in yesterday and lost 3lbs so I am really chuffed with that.

I am hoping that I can continue sticking to the plan this week as I am back to work tomorrow. Just doing 4 hrs to start with and then building up over the next 3 weeks.

Apologies for being a bit quiet on the thread its just alot to take in going back to work. Will catch up with everyones posts after work tomorrow ❤

MrsMGE · 13/01/2020 09:38

Hi girls. Quick question, what advice (if any) have you been given re smear tests and TTC? I had my smear test this morning and the Practice Nurse didn't know whether it can affect early pregnancy but said "they wouldn't touch me in early pregnancy" and didn't know whether I can TTC now or wait for the results first (in case the result is abnormal) "but they don't normally recommend anything, just get on with life". Uhmmm.

I have enough common sense and, as you know, I have already decided no TTC this month, for all sorts of reasons, not only smear test-related. But of course, in particular, if my results are bad, it would be the worst possible time for TTC as pregnancy can increase the speed at which cancerous cells spread and I'm pretty sure treatment options are very limited while pregnant, so it's a no brainer in my mind.

The point is, I'm yet again astonished with the poor knowledge and advice (or lack thereof) of the NHS staff.

Curious to know what everyone else has been told? Xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 13/01/2020 10:38

Haven’t been told anything @MrsMGE but would probably try to avoid TTC in the 2WW and then proceed as normal! I must be due a smear anyway. How often are we supposed to have them? I think I was due one when I was pregnant and then haven’t rebooked

OP posts:
tortiecat · 13/01/2020 10:45

@BunnytheBlueWhale it's every three years at our age :)

@MrsMGE I wasn't told anything at all at my last appointment (I didn't even know that you couldn't have a smear if pregnant, this thread is very enlightening!) but did the nurse tell you how long are results are taking to come back at the moment? I last had one in August 2019 - they told me it could take up to ten weeks for results but I got my letter in just over a month I think, so you might be fine to TTC as you have planned if this is the case? Hope all is well x

BunnytheBlueWhale · 13/01/2020 11:00

Sorry @MrsMGE resized I mistyped I meant I would avoid a smear in the 2WW not avoid TTC 🙄

Thanks @tortiecat I must be due to go in

OP posts:
MrsMGE · 13/01/2020 11:32

@BunnytheBlueWhale Every 3 years. Mine was due now but if you missed yours because you were pg then you need to rebook it yourself within 6-12 months after the birth I believe. You won't have another letter.

@tortiecat Yes she told me a month which isn't an issue cause like I said we're definitely not TTC this month and probably not before March.

However I just read on CRUK website that if something was wrong (i.e. cervical cancer) and I got pg in the meantime the NHS would most likely recommend to terminate and get treatment. I know it's very, very unlikely but I'd rather had been told that and obviously it makes sense to wait for the results with TTC xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 13/01/2020 15:00

So these are my Hello Fresh meals for this week. Happy to share recipes if you’re interested but I must stress I am not selecting based on how “healthy” it is. My focus is on snacking less on sugary foods and also avoiding takeaways and fast food.

It wasn’t good news today I’m afraid. Scan showed a sac 4-5 weeks but no fetal pole or heartbeat. I’m really sure of my dates so looks like it’s just not developed. Am really sad but relived I at least know what is going on now. Thanks for all the messages of support. I'll be back in a couple of days on a mission to get healthy!

MrsMGE · 14/01/2020 10:18

Oh @Seahawk80 ❤️❤️❤️ I'm so sorry to hear this. You know we're all here for you. Sending you a huge virtual hug. We all get it and are always here if you need to talk. Take things at the pace that is right for you now xxx

It's my due date today and I'm feeling emotional, although coping better than expected. Off to a lovely spa this afternoon/eve xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 14/01/2020 10:46

I’m so sorry @Seahawk80 That is just rubbish 💐 Look after yourself xx

@MrsMGE I’m sorry you’re having a tough day too. It’s so hard to think of what could / should have been. I hope you enjoy your spa day. Are you off to Rudding Park? 😃

PS I treated myself to a hot chocolate this morning! ☕️ Has the miso dish last night for dinner. Was really good except I don’t like fish 😂

OP posts:
SunStruck · 14/01/2020 12:28

@bunnythebluewhale yeah precisely that, I'm cooking healthy stews/chili's and soup! 🤣 I have seen a few recipes for pulled chicken fajitas etc though, might try that one day!

@seahawk80 I'm so sorry 😔 look after yourself and take a little break from everything, you deserve it.

@MrsMGE I'm sorry, it's not easy! good you have the spa to pamper yourself with. Any nice treatments booked? ❤️

MrsMGE · 14/01/2020 14:13

Thanks @BunnytheBlueWhale @SunStruck.

Sadly Rudding Park is a bit too far away (maybe one day!), but Thermae Bath Spa will do 😊 I have a massage booked. Can't wait. Xxx

MrsMGE · 14/01/2020 14:44

Also @Shefliesonherownwings I was going to post earlier, your kitty is gorgeous 😍 Nothing beats a cat cuddle ❤️ Hope you're doing well xxx

tortiecat · 14/01/2020 19:12

@Seahawk80 So sorry to hear your news. Thinking of you - we are here for you xx

tortiecat · 14/01/2020 19:14

Thinking of you @MrsMGE on this tough day, hope you and DH are enjoying your spa! I think "go to Rudding Park" is the equivalent of "cancel the cheque" on this thread Grin I went to Thermae on a hen do once, it was lovely.

Avocuddles · 14/01/2020 20:07

@tortiecat 😂 😂 😂!

@MrsMGE hope you're having a fantastic time at the spa. Feeling envious as I tidy the house before the cleaner comes tomorrow (guessing I'm not the only one to do this?) whilst DH watches football. Living the dream!

Dinner tonight is turkey mince bolognese which I'm just off to dish up now. Hope you've all had a good day x

MrsMGE · 14/01/2020 21:39

Thanks girls ❤️ @tortiecat @Avocuddles
I think generally a spa day is our go to option for a difficult day, isn't it! It does work. I'm glad today is nearly over. Had a cry and I've been a bit clingy with DH which isn't like me. I think I needed a cuddle and he did give me one earlier and held my hand twice today which was very sweet.

I wasn't great with food choices today, it's a write off, but I think it was needed. I'll do my best to be good again from tomorrow. Hope you all had a good day xxx

VenusStarr · 14/01/2020 22:01

Sending love @MrsMGE ❤️

I'm so sorry @Seahawk80 ❤️

Im struggling to stay on plan / motivated. I know why (there's an update on the other thread...) x

MrsMGE · 14/01/2020 22:14

Thanks @Venusstarr. I just read your update. I get where you're coming from, I'm personally scared that I might have to go down the IVF route if nothing happens too, and I'd be taken aback if someone told me this. I don't actually think we need it, the prospect seems scary and unnecessary considering we clearly can get pg naturally.

However, like you said, there's still time before you start the process and things may happen naturally. Secondly (and that's how I'm trying to convince myself), even if you go through it, chances are you'll end up with a healthy baby and you'll be very well supported throughout. I heard first hand stories from one couple having IVF twice on the NHS (she found it hard at times due to hormones) and another one who had it privately (she said it was nowhere near as scary as some say).

I'd like to think that after what we've been through already it actually won't be as bas as it might seem. And you may not even need it. Remember our here and now approach? Roll it back to basics, look after yourself now, one day at a time and regardless of what the future holds, it will help you go through it. You will be fine ❤️ xxx

SunStruck · 15/01/2020 08:48

Sending hugs @MrsMGE ❤️ Hope you had a good time. I'm also going to a spa with DH this weekend (one treatment each - Xmas present!)z ooh what naughty food choices did you make? This is actually more interesting to hear about than our healthy eating 🤣 I'm a massive foodie!

@venusstarr just take a little break - you're going t through a lot and it's fine to eat some comfort foods! You deserve it.

MrsMGE · 15/01/2020 09:20

@SunStruck I'd rather not say cause that might make others fall of the healthy bandwagon.

I was actually quite ok for most of the day, bit emotional, but ok. Today, however, I feel shit. Absolutely shit. I've realised it really is done, irreversible, this baby will never be here and this feels like the first day of the rest of my life, acknowledging this. It's not good. Typically, I'm back in work.

I also weighed myself, huge mistake as I've put on a ridiculous amount after this long weekend.

I feel like an absolute failure, can't even lose a fucking stone, I mean, seriously!!!
