TTC after loss penguins get fit & healthy in 2020

This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

@SunshineCrocodile That sounds nice. We are having the curried beef and chickpea soup and I’m curious as to what that will be like.

@SunStruck You’ve done well with the gym.

I havent done so well on exercise but I am ok with that as I think I’ve eaten well and I plan to do pilates at lunchtime today and then some kind of cardio tomorrow (I have the day off) and yoga on Saturday...

I hope everyone has a nice day. It’s a bit wet here but still quite mild. I must confess I have found it slightly harder to get up as the week has progressed. I’m convinced the effect lack of sleep is cumulative and every night that I haven’t slept well adds up!

👋 Just checking in, not caught up properly but good to see everyone doing so well!

@Avocuddles I think you asked about slimming world - I go to group and plan to for another 6 weeks and then hoping that I'll be OK to continue on my own. My goal was to lose 7lbs by 11th January and I'm -9lbs now, so pleased with that - especially with Christmas in between!

I'm not back at the gym yet, still got a lingering cough. Feeling very run down. I am managing a lunchtime walk, hoping the rain holds off today!

I'm going for a run Saturday morning - I don't know if any of you are on Instagram but there's a lady who's set up rainbow running club and she is holding one in my area on Saturday - 5k run followed by cake. It's for anyone who's had a loss or struggling to concieve.

I'm finding it helpful to be focusing on healthy eating as I'm being organised. I really didn't want to do much yesterday but forced myself to prepare my lunch for today and that means I can go for a walk because I'm not having to go to the shop to buy overpriced, tasteless food. Today I'm having harissa chicken, roasted veg and Cous Cous.

Have a good day 😊

Good morning all. @BunnytheBlueWhale yes I will definitely go to another meeting. Once a month is fine for me, it was so emotional that I think more regular meetings would be too much.

@LASandOtto yes PT session today at 2pm. Thanks for the good wishes, will let you know how it goes.

Last night was eventful. DH and I were in bed watching something and it made me properly laugh, first time since we lost Isla I think. All of a sudden I went from laughing to sobbing my heart out. No idea where that came from but I just couldn't stop it. I've not sobbed like that for a while. Anyway after I'd calmed down I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from me, I didn't realise how tense I'd been the last couple of days. I slept so well last night. Better than I have for the last two months, no dreams and no waking up. I got 11 hours sound sleep. I feel so much better.

Also just wanted to share with you all that one side affect of our healthy dinner was that we have both been doing some very vicious farts all night. The bedroom stinks this morning! Maybe that's why I slept so well, I gassed myself lol.

SunshineCrocodile · 09/01/2020 11:43

@Shefliesonherownwings sounds like a good cathartic cry was just what you needed, so glad you're feeling so much better. Hope PT goes well and the after effects of the beans have cleared by then

Hi @VenusStarr, wow, you've done so well! The rainbow running club sounds like a great idea, what's her name on insta? I don't really do Instagram but have a vague idea how it works. Hope you're feeling a little brighter x

@LASandOtto so glad you're being well monitored in this pregnancy, and that they're pulling out the stops to keep this one going. I quite like bbq jackfruit btw - I've made it at home before in the slow cooker although it wasn't so tasty that I've done it again! I have another tin rusting in the cupboard though..

@BunnytheBlueWhale let me know how the curried soup is! Hope you get to Pilates today. Lack of sleep is definitely cumulative, fingers crossed you have a better night tonight.

@SunStruck your veggie days sound delicious. It might be an idea to think about iron as well as protein - I say it as I went veggie a couple of years ago and despite eating really healthily - protein, green leafy veg, loads of pulses and varied diet - I ended up quite severely anaemic. Only found out when I went to give blood. Probably less of an issue if you're still eating meat other days but just thought I'd mention it as obviously anaemia and TTC/pregnancy don't go well together!

I'm feeling really happy with myself, I've had a few little slips but mostly maintained healthy meals and very few snacks, and have done two weights sessions and a yoga class so far this week. I can't actually walk now but I'm enjoying the pain in a weird way. Also, at yoga today it was really obvious how much my ability has dropped since I last went aeons ago, and normally it would have really annoyed me. But it didn't, I was just pleased to be back doing something I enjoy. It's not all about the fancy poses after all.

VenusStarr · 09/01/2020 12:22

Thank you @SunshineCrocodile 😊 her Instagram name is motherofone she's posts everything to do with the running club on there. I'm really scared to go but decided I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. Definitely a non-healthy day as there'll be cake after!
Good for you going back to yoga, there's a nice class by me that's every Wednesday... Not quite ready yet, but soon 🤞

VenusStarr · 09/01/2020 12:24

Bugger its changed the Instagram name, will have to do it with spaces : (who knew that's how you underline??)

mother of one her name is Lucy

BunnytheBlueWhale · 09/01/2020 13:09

Yes once a month for me too. I don’t actually go to the closest one to me. I go to one in the city I work and where we had our daughter so it’s about a 45 min drive and finishes at 9:30 on a Monday so I find it a bit of a trek. Wouldn’t be able to do it weekly! It’s good that you had a laugh. It was probably a shock to your system.

@VenusStarr Enjoy your run!

@SunshineCrocodile Made it to pilates and it was really good! Quite challenging and a sort of mix of yoga and pilates. I’ll try to make it a weekly thing. Sounds like you’re doing well!

@SheFliesOnHerOwnWings your farting comments really made me laugh! I am glad you had the opportunity to let everything out (tears and wind!!) and were able to get a decent sleep.

Last full day of skiing today - I have had a lot of fun. Not looking forward to going back to work next week...I am going to look into doing some mediation as some posters on here have suggested, if anyone has any other stress-busting tips other than exercise and running to Rudding Park I would love to hear them Smile

MrsMGE · 09/01/2020 19:41

Girls I've only now left the office and still have to work later at home 😔 so sadly haven't caught up with the thread but saw this on the news and thought I'd share:

Shefliesonherownwings · 09/01/2020 20:45

PT session done today! My word I am unfit. I knew I was but not this much. I shouldn't be surprised as even before I was pregnant I was out of shape but it was a bit of a shock.

It was good though, a nice mix of strength and cardio work and plenty of breaks when it got too much. The PT was super lovely and pushed me just the right amount. I've booked a block of five sessions and then I'll see where I am. DH and I have a few days away booked at the end of februsry so I'm hoping to have lost some weight by then and be back in normal clothes as I'm still wearing maternity jeans right now. I'm going for a spa day tomorrow including a massage and it couldn't have come at a better time!

Mumlili8 · 09/01/2020 20:49

Hello ladies I've finally made it over here.

So me, I'm 39 and horribly over weight.
Unfortunately I have packed on the weight due to 8 pregnancy and losses, I've gone from a size 10 to size 16 in 2 years. So I'm after losing all that weight. So I've dusted off the tread mill, dug out my workout music and purchased new yoga pants. My biggest problem food's are cheese and bread so I'm going to be miserable limiting those. I've charged my fit bit and I'm ready to get started.

LASandOtto · 09/01/2020 21:02

@Mumlili8 yaaaay so nice you're on here!!! Welcome! Really looking forward to sharing our health journeys!

@Shefliesonherownwings so happy you enjoyed the PT sessions! Sounds like you've got a good PT who you're getting on well with and who pushes you! I'm sure tomorrow you might wake with some achey muscles?

I've been running around like a headless chicken today!

Dinner was pan fried chicken breast, with some veggies and a big side salad with avocado, tomato and beetroot! Boring but filling which is what I needed!

How's everyone else doing?

@MrsMGE my work has been madness too! I missed the relaxation of the holidays 😭

@tortiecat how was the skiing and when are you coming back home?

BunnytheBlueWhale · 09/01/2020 21:08

@tortiecat glad you’re having a good time! I think meditation is really beneficial. I’ve only done bits in yoga class etc but want to do more. I just want to try to be more mindful generally as I think that’s what it’s about. I watch tv while I’m getting ready or listen to ana audiobook when driving or on the train. I even read MN and crap on the internet when I’m watching tv! I need to focus more.

PS I really want to go to Rudding Park. I have a friend who has mentioned to me she wants to go (since about 2 years ago) and we haven’t been so I might suggest it 😃

@Shefliesonherownwings I think PT sessions always make you feel like you’re unfit! Spa day sound a lovely!

Hey @mumlili8 I’ve been really enjoying this group. Hope you do too

I’ve eaten quite well this week. Not perfectly. I just had some hotel chocolate chocolate after my meal. FYI the Hotel Choc diary free milk chocolate is delicious! I did also have some crisps earlier as DH worked late and I was really hungry. But otherwise had a small amount of yesterday’s leftovers for dinner and fruit at work. I also did pilates at lunchtime and really enjoyed it. Think I mentioned that...
🤔

Had the curried beef and bean soup (card said chickpea but it came with mixed beans). It was really nice. Tasted a bit like chilli but not as strong flavour as I didn’t use much chilli and no onion... DH said it was the best recipe or the week so far!

I have the day off tomorrow. I have book club and might go to the gym. I’m exhausted from not sleeping well. So glad I have the day off...

I’m off work today and forced myself to go for a run before bookclub. I only did about a mile but it was my first run in over a year so now I have a free afternoon after bookclub... I also think since I only did a v short run it will be easy for me to improve 😂

VenusStarr · 10/01/2020 12:01

Well done @BunnytheBlueWhale!

I'm working from home today, as I was supposed to have therapy but it got cancelled late last night. The cats are loving me being home, one has set up camp in front of my laptop! As I'm at home I haven't made my lunch, need some inspiration!

Avocuddles · 10/01/2020 12:34

Leftover pasta lunch for me with heck paprika chicken sausage and lots of veg.....

@BunnytheBlueWhale well done with the run and yes you definitely should book Rudding Park, the rooftop spa is fabulous!

@Mumlili8 good to see you here! It's a nice positive thread.

@MrsMGE I read an article about that trial this morning, it's encouraging to know that possible new options to support recurrent miscarriage are being researched all the time. Hopefully they'll complete the trials for the diabetes drug quickly as it sounds like the initial results were very promising....

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 13:38

What did you have for lunch @VenusStarr I’m home too so not sure what I’ll have. Has ready made not so healthy pancakes 🥞 for breakfast but I think that’s ok. I won’t buy them again though. Not sure what to have for lunch though.

@Avocuddles Your lunch looks nice and healthy and hearty!

I just got back from book club and my friend has invited me to their running club so think I’ll do that. They do about 1-2 miles at a time from the sounds of it so sounds manageable and I’d like to meet more people from around here!

I also ran into an old teacher. As if you want your high school English Lit teacher in your book club 😂😬🙈 She wasn’t actually my teacher and she is very nice but we recognised one another from about 20 years ago!

Hey everyone, just popping on to say looks like you are all going at it and doing well. I've been terrible, ate a whole tub of Judes ice cream the other night Confused. I'm really struggling to be honest. I've had to pause exercise until the spotting stops. I thought it had and then today had red blood, still only when I wipe but just at the end of my tether with the stress and worry. I thought about booking an early private scan after work today, I'm 7 weeks but adjusted I'm 6+2 and if there is no heartbeat I'm still in limbo as it could be too early. Can't afford to waste £80 so I'm trying to stay strong and wait for EPU on Tuesday. I'm hoping to be able to join properly one way or another after that but to be honest I'm just being kind to myself for now.

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 14:37

Don’t worry about exercise or anything @Seahawk80 just look after yourself and try to relax as much as you can. You’re doing the right thing xx

LASandOtto · 10/01/2020 16:40

@BunnytheBlueWhale sounds like a nice day off!

I've had such a busy first week back at work it's been mental!

Got a work trip to Istanbul in a couple of weeks and hope to not fall of the bandwagon of healthy eating whilst being away! Always find it harder when I'm not in my normal routine and don't have the same food choices available! Any tips anyone?

Hope everyone else is fine?

@MrsMGE I saw that info on that research as well and it's great Tommy's is making such progress, very interesting to see when clinics trials for this medication will commence!

@Seahawk80 just wanted to send a hug and hope you're ok! I can imagine you're concerned but I hope everything will be fine!

Seahawk80 · 10/01/2020 16:58

Thanks guys. I'm going to wait until Tuesday as I thought I'd there was no heartbeat tonight I'd just be hoping it was too early and it would be a waste of £80. I'll update you all then but in the meantime have a healthy weekend!

MrsMGE · 10/01/2020 17:16

Aww @Seahawk80 I'm sorry it's so stressful for you, it's not easy to have to wait at all. What are you doing to keep yourself occupied?

Soooo I managed to leave work on time!!! And no working at home either! 🥳🥳🥳 I actually got so much done this week that I'm going to double my target. Not that it means a lot, however, it comes useful if things get quieter, so I'm pretty pleased this has happened in dark, cold January 😁

I'm on my way to Zumba and then I might have a treat meal, haven't decided yet.

I'm so, so chuffed I didn't give in, I stuck to my healthy eating, didn't have any treats, and even managed to exercise every day this week apart from yesterday. 15 mins HIIT a day is around 120+ calories, it does make a difference if you're not a huge, huge eater, and I feel pumped thanks to doing it. God bless Joe Wicks ❤️🙌

Have a nice Friday evening, girls, I'm now off for a few days and I cannot wait! Spa, exercise and nice time with DH ❤️ Bliss. Xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 10/01/2020 17:25

Fingers crossed for you @Seahawk80

@LASandOtto It is harder to eat healthy when you’re away in terms of meals - not sure what to suggest! But on the other hand I find I’m less likely to snack if not at home or at my desk at work...

@MrsMGE Well done! I’m pleased with what I’ve done this week too.

Really enjoying the group!
