How did you get your BFP?

After trying for 7 months, I'm finding the monthly testing and BFNs absolutely heart breaking.

After Christmas, I plan to completely change me eating.

What I want to ask is, how did it finally happy for you?

I've heard the basic, "just stop trying" a lot of people say it finally happens when they had given up?

But did you really give up?
I'm not sure how to have sex without thinking, "what's the date today? Am I ovulating?"
When AF arrives I understand that feeling of "I can't do this anymore". But this month I'll still be hoping..

I've looked into options such as using a syringe? To get the good stuff closer?
Has this worked for anyone?

I've tried using menstrual cups to keep the good stuff up there?

Tried all the positions.

I use apps and ovulation sticks,

I haven't tried tempting?

I tried pregancare but that delayed my period !

I've heard of other victims such as, COQ10, it's meant to improve egg quality but I might ask my GP about this one?

So yes, what has actually worked? Please tell me your stories and how long you were trying?

I was using IC ovulation sticks but the first month I used Clearblue Digital OPKs I got my BFP. They are expensive but take the guessing out of 'is that positive or nearly positive?' x

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 08/12/2019 16:35

Are you using OPKs?
What age are you?

FebMama2Be · 08/12/2019 16:44

I would definitely recommend temping along with digital clearblue ovulation sticks ( can be expensive but IMO worth it)
I had one cycle where I had the positive ovulation test but no temp rise. A couple of days later I had another positive test and then my temp rise. If I hadnt temped I would of just assumed I had ovulated and missed out on valuable DTD timing - Ovulation tests only confirm when you have a LH surge whereas only temping can confirm that you actually ovulated.

I would also recommend either conceive plus or preseed. Read the reviews on them, I really do think they were a big tribute to me getting pregnant.
Good luck !

First time round COQ10, conceive plus and extra D vitamins. It took about 9 months and I was perpetually tired in a very stressful job. I tried ovulation sticks but found that it delayed ovulation and my period (probably stress related as I got anxious about why I didn’t seem to be ovulating). I was starting to get quite worried that something was wrong when I finally got my BFP.

Second time, had sex once but I was much more relaxed and rested. No stressful job and loads of exercise. Much healthier even though I was a few years older so it ‘should’ have been harder.

I genuinely think it was not being stressed and the regular exercise that made the difference second time around.

sassenach84 · 08/12/2019 16:57

Apps, OPKs, vitamins for both and preseed

Good luck x

@CoffeeAndCarbs I was looking at the clear blue ovulation ones that you can bluetooth to your phone? Sounds like it's worth it then :) .

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted
I'm 28, yeah I'm just using amazon cheapies atm. I get a line darker then the test line most months. I say most months cos I've tried not to be obsessive about it every month.

@FebMama2Be oh yes I forgot that one. I've been using conceiveplus for a few months. Handy stuff.
I'm definitely going to give the detail ovulation tests a go.
Maybe we need to be having sex less? Cos we've been having sex every other day and then everyday. Until the strips suggest ovulation is over....

@Lolalovesmarmite I definitely think my diet and exercise plan is going to be a good way forward (after Christmas). And I think I might invest in the COQ10 but it feels dodgy buying that sorta think on Amazon lol. We've been using conceive plus for the last few months. Everything else in life is happy, happy husband and I love my job. So the only thing stressing me out is this ... :(

I wonder if my being over weight is the problem... but I get positive ovulation tests every time I actively test. I think I'm still in shock that it doesn't just happen. Even as a kid I said my biggest fear was not being have to have child..
I know 7 months isn't that long...but you ladies know how hard the journey truly is..

@welshsoph so maybe this month I shouldn't test...and enjoy Christmas. Eat and drink all I want.... then maybe ?

I used Ovusense after 13 months trying and got pregnant the 1st month I used it! May have just been a coincidence but who knows!

meow1989 · 08/12/2019 18:10

We were very lucky and fell the first month of actively trying. We just dtd every other day. I also made sure to take vitamins for at least 3 months before hand.

pumpkinpie01 · 08/12/2019 18:14

Try googling ' how cough medicine helps you conceive ' you will be surprised.

MrsHufflepuf · 08/12/2019 18:17

@pumpkinpie01 oooo.... that's a new one.

MrsHufflepuf · 08/12/2019 18:24

@SuperSimpleSnogs oh God, £99 for the starter back.....
Is it comfortable? I'm rubbish with tampons lol

I feel you... on cycle 7 at the moment. My biggest fear has always been infertility too and I'm getting more worried that will become a reality!
I started off just doing IC OPKs, I've moved onto the clear blue advanced OPKs alongside the IC (ALLL the OPKs haha) which are a lot clearer. It seems I get a peak CD10 bang on every month so I seem to be very regular.
Been on high dose folic acid for 3 months (I have a deficiency tested by GP), started taking Vitamin B complex 2 months ago and added omega 3 with primrose oil last month (only up to ovulation). Also got the DH to start taking zinc.
Like you we have decided to relax and enjoy Christmas, eat what we want etc then start improving our diet and exercise more in January.

MrsHufflepuf · 08/12/2019 19:00

@Makeafamily19 it's so hard isn't. I'm currently researching Ovusense atm. Which someone suggested. I don't know if I have any fertility issues, but this thing seems to be for everyone regardless of stage.
I think it might be a January purchase....

CoffeeAndCarbs · 08/12/2019 19:12

@MrsHufflepuf that's the ones I used, Clearblue Connected 👍 the app is pretty good too for keeping track of how many days of flashing smileys you usually have before you get a static x

MrsHufflepuf · 08/12/2019 19:22

Ok Ladies, I've just ordered ovusense!

OP posts:
SuperSimpleSnogs · 08/12/2019 19:52

@MrsHufflepuf I found it weird initially but actually fine once I figured out how 'far in' to put it lol. Couldn't feel it at all and I could never use tampons til after I had DC! Hope it works for you! The month we conceived i also got very drunk on a city break over ovulation...

MrsHufflepuf · 08/12/2019 20:34

@SuperSimpleSnogs lol getting drink is w common advise I hear. 😜
Thanks, I'll have to stick with it. I'm guess it goes quite far in?? The "tail" looks longer than tampon string. So I think I'll feel a but more confident pushing it up there haha

OP posts:
SuperSimpleSnogs · 08/12/2019 20:55

Yeah it goes further in than a tampon, also when you're pulling it out try to pull from as close to the base of the tail as possible...its stretchy!

Dandelion1993 · 08/12/2019 20:56

I tracked my periods and cycle for 6 months with the app flo before trying.

Fell pregnant the first month.

Makeafamily19 · 08/12/2019 22:30

@MrsHufflepuf let me know how you get on with the ovusense! I have looked into it but I don't like the thought of putting something up there every night, I don't use tampons either so worried I would find it difficult. I did start temping for a while and it coincided with my OPK data and apps. I stopped after a couple of months as I found I just kept waking in the night as I was thinking about it too much.

headsaway123 · 08/12/2019 22:46

I tried for months then used the chest blue digital machine and got BFP first time! My sister in law got hers on her 2nd month of using it

LouH1981 · 09/12/2019 06:35

Hi, I feel your frustration. After conceiving DS1 in the first month, it took 2 years and one miscarriage to get DD2.
I like you was desperate to try anything. So if it helps, by the time I had conceived I had -

  • used Ubiquinol (concentrated form of CQ10) for 4 months
  • using Clear Blue digital predictor kit as well as i/c opks
  • taking Guanefesin cough syrup around ovulation to increase cervical mucus
  • started using a BBT to track my temperature
  • used the Kindara app to put on all my temps etc.
  • Read ‘It Starts with the Egg’ book which has lots of useful tips to increase fertility.
I was trying to lose weight and eat healthy. I wasn’t drinking any alcohol or caffeine. I was also well aware that your body doesn’t function properly under stress but tbh the winging it method used to make me more stressed because let’s face it, we all know timing is everything in the ttc game! I’d also started the ball rolling with the Drs so I think that helped me feel a little more in control. Hope some of that helps. I have everything crossed for you xx
