Start TTC November/December, fresh off the mini pill, anybody else?

I’m due to stop taking the mini pill next week and then hopefully going to start TTC properly once my periods return to normal but in the meantime I’m aware that anything can happen and I for one am hoping that I’ll be one of the lucky ones to get a BFP quickly but I won’t hold my breath!

My OH is somewhat less enthusiastic as me so I think I need to proceed with caution and not mention when I’m ovulating or schedule DTD - I’ve waited years for him/us to be ready I daren’t scare him off now!!!!

Anybody else looking to start TTC soon after the mini pill?

Anybody else got any tips on how to proceed in terms of TTC, ovulation kits etc...

Thanks @FutureMrsSmith thanks so much for the advice. Im so clueless with all of this as i was on the pill for years. So never experienced proper cycles. You're right im better off tracking each month. I thought i was in for it this month with AF but she seems to be gone now. Is that normal after the pill?? I think i ovulated two weeks after coming off the pill. That was just over two weeks ago. This is so confusing!!

FutureMrsSmith · 31/10/2019 11:19

I am new to TTC too but have read what feels like every post on here! 😂
I think we have all taken for granted how long after stopping the pill our bodies can take to adjust.
You mentioned your periods been lighter than you had remembered but I believe most people have said they become heavier, was it just spotting? Perhaps that could be an implantation bleed which happens at 6 days + after ovulation.
It's all very complicated. I came off the pill 13th October and didn't have a withdrawl bleed but did have PMS symptoms. I got some OPK (ovulation predictor lots) from Amazon to see what my body was doing and then can see I peaked earlier this week which would make sense in terms of timing. But who knows. I used to be so regular but I may have taken that for granted.

Jam234 · 31/10/2019 11:47

Its like a whole other world isnt it!! I am the same reading everything. I feel like i should be an expert at this stage 😂.
Yes from what i can remember AF used to last roughly 6 to 7 days with mild cramping. I wouldnt say spotting but it was very light and fresh looking for maybe a day and a half now its kind of brown just when i wipe. Sorry TMI. I have no other symptoms that i know of?? 😂 Hmm im guessing from my CM i ovulated around 15th which would make it 14 days?
Did you have a withdrawal bleed each month while on the pill? I have heard you can ovulate before you get your period back so you might be in luck. Its like a battlefield isn't it 😂

FutureMrsSmith · 01/11/2019 20:31

Hi @Jam234
I was taking Desogestrel so never had a break on them and no period / withdrawl each month. I can tell from my OPK that I did hit peak and also from my CM that this matched the OPK and I also had a pain in my left hand side at the same time so there were a few signs of ovulation. I don't be disheartened if month one isn't ours, I wasn't expecting anything and I'd come off the pill 3 months earlier than planned. OH had been asking for almost 9 months for us to try so it felt right for us now.

Jam234 · 01/11/2019 21:00

@FutureMrsSmith i didnt use OPKs as i decided to give my body time to adjust. I dont really know whats going on this week. I have felt quite sick AF only lasted 2 and a half days. I presume my body is just getting used to hormones etc. Yea we decided to come off the pill early too to let my cycle settle. OH juat isnt getting that we cant get pregnant at any time of the month 😂 so are you in the two week wait now?

FutureMrsSmith · 02/11/2019 08:33

The men need a biology lesson before hand I think! 😂
It does just sound like your body getting back into the swing of things really but that doesn't mean you won't ovulate so keep that in mind!
I guess you could say I was in the TTW but I'm not really counting this as cycle one as I know AF can arrive any day... but I'm hopeful that it'll hold off for a few weeks! 😂
I'm usually such a planner, everything has a spreadsheet but this TTC malarkey isn't spreadsheetable! Lol

FutureMrsSmith · 12/11/2019 17:41

How is everyone doing?

Blondeandbroody · 12/11/2019 18:59

I’ve got 2 and a half more weeks of the pill to go! It happens to be a full 28 days worth until we have agreed to come off it, so it’s good to see those little white pills going down on the sheet!

Anybody had any progress this past couple weeks? X

I’m getting sore boobs so I think I may have a bleed in a week or so, if I do I think I’m going to discuss with OH and come off it then because it’s only a week and I can’t get pregnant whilst bleeding either so makes sense! Gives my body an extra week to adjust.

FutureMrsSmith · 12/11/2019 19:49

Sounds like a good idea!
I stopped the pill 1 month ago (today) and no period as yet. I have tested but BFN which was expected so not disheartened at all given it's our first monthly the pill. Hoping AF arrives soon so I can get started properly

FutureMrsSmith · 16/11/2019 10:20

Well AF made her arrival known this morning!
Here's to our first official cycle of TTC!

Jam234 · 16/11/2019 11:10

Hi everyone. I have nothing new to report ha. Im off the pill about 7 weeks now. I feel like i have read every thread on here about TTC. And each persons symptoms are so different. I have already convinced myself i am infertile and pregnant 😂😂
I think i ovulated during the week but only because i had some EWCM all week though? Im stressing myself out trying to symptom spot already.
@FutureMrsSmith im like you i need to plan everything. But this you just cant. I dont even know what cycle day i am on!! Atleast you got your AF now hopefully you can start your journey.

FutureMrsSmith · 16/11/2019 20:25

@Jam234 you should join on a big chat called End Of November, jump on board part 2.
The girls there can offer loads of advise and there are 2 BFPs this month.

Blondeandbroody · 27/11/2019 20:51

Hey guys!

So I’ve come off the pill earlier than planned. Woo hoo!

I am so excited!!
I need to start taking folic acid. Also and I only ask this cause it’s nearly Christmas haha but does anybody stop drinking when TTC or just when you get your BFP?

I had a period last week and my pains were horrific and my OH suggested I come off it because they have all been bad the last 3 months and we’re never this bad before the pill so I stopped taking it a week ago now.

We have had the chat tonight and agreed to just proceed naturally and see what happens.

I’ve been on the pill for years now and my periods have been on and off with it but they’ve been quite regular the past few months so fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long for my body to adjust! A Christmas Day BFP now wouldn’t that be wonderful! Won’t get my hopes up though!!

Also I’m going to start a pregnancy bullet journal when I get my BFP to document my pregnancy and it can be something to give to the little one when they grow up.

Yay @Blondeandbroody welcome to the TTC club! 😍
You should also join the TTC chat called End of November part 3 , loads of advise on there.
What I would say is that the breaks inbetween the pill aren't proper periods, they are known as withdrawl bleeds so just be mindful when symptom spotting (because you will!) that any different niggles to what your used to can get our hopes up!
Definitely start with folic acid, good if your OH will take some too. There are loads of other pregnancy vitamins but Iv read mixed reviews about them messing people's cycles up so Iv decided just to go with NHS advise and just do the folic acid - have a read up!
I don't drink anyway but I did read that during the 2WW you should act like you're pregnant (because you could be!) but given it's your first month and it's Xmas I'd say don't put too much pressure on things and enjoy both 😊

Blondeandbroody · 28/11/2019 19:08

I was on the mini pill so didn’t take breaks and I still bled and it was just like a normal period, same length, same symptoms etc but I don’t really know how it works to be honest it’s all very confusing. I don’t drink much anyways but do love a glass of mulled of two at Christmas so unless I am lucky enough to have a BFP before Christmas I shall indulge myself a little haha!

Acting as if my “periods” That I’ve been logging for the last 6 months are periods and wait and see for any changes to my “cycle” and adjust as needs be x

FutureMrsSmith · 28/11/2019 19:27

It's all one big guessing game!
I don't like how out of control we are when TTC! It's good you've got some data from previous months so you can compare this next period to. My mind has been boggled but I'm so glad there's forums like this where you can ask away without judgement and get all sorts of advise and have people to wait with during the TWW!

Elmlee · 28/11/2019 20:20

Hey ladies hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread too?
I've been on the part 3 thread but I came across this thread.
@Blondeandbroody I think we might be on pretty much same journey give or take a few days! That's pretty exciting 😍 feel like I've found a little buddy!

I stopped on the 23rd of November. Been half arsing my pill anyway tbh. We decided about 7/8 months ago we were ready to start a family.

Have you and your OH been together long? 😊😊

Blondeandbroody · 28/11/2019 21:34

@Elmlee I saw your post on the other thread first. Yay TTC buddies!!! Xx

Me and oh discussed TTC in august whilst on holiday but he was going to be really tied up on a work thing for a few months so we said we would wait til December so he can be there for me in the early days if I’m sick etc. We’ve been together nearly 6 years now and have been waiting for the “right” time for a couple years now. I’ve been so ready for it that whenever anybody around me In real life says they’re pregnant it makes me cry just with pure jealousy! So I’m so happy that we are now finally trying, I’m just so impatient and I’m a planner and an overthinker I’ve already been looking at maternity clothes for Christ’s sake haha but it helps me to soothe my impatience so I don’t care haha I’m not harming anybody with my extraness. I am so glad I joined Mumsnet cause we’re all the same when TTC it seems! Or at least similar degrees of it!

I came off officially on 20th November and we’ve only DTD once since then And technically close enough to ovulation but he withdrew cause we hadn’t officially discussed anything then... so I doubt that’s gonna result in anything. If my app is right I should be ovulating this weekend so you can be sure I’ll be making sure we DTD this weekend haha! i know my cycle is probably all over so I am not expecting anything this month but I can’t help but hope.

Elmlee · 28/11/2019 21:59

@Blondeandbroody I know how you feel about looking at things! Soon as we had the chat 7/8 months ago I was looking at prams and cots 😂

We've been together 8 years and married for a year. He was always fairly anti kids to start... I think since a couple of his friends have had children it's became more of something he's thought about. His mum is so excited she is dying to be a nan!!

I've started to log stuff on the ovia app... have you had a bleed or anything yet? I've been bleeding since Tuesday and spotting since Sunday...

Blondeandbroody · 28/11/2019 22:22

@Elmlee

Well when I came off the pill I was in the middle of a bleed which I think is a period as I had them on and off whilst on the mini pill. So I don’t really know WTF is going on until I get my first AF after coming off.

I can’t help myself it helps me not focus too much on the upset of waiting and being so impatient if I focus my energy on something else haha even if it is planning the nursery or maternity clothes window shopping online haha!

OP posts:
Elmlee · 28/11/2019 22:29

@Blondeandbroody my mum just said don't think about it. She said just enjoy being off the pill and seeing how you feel. She said you'll stress and stress can prolong the wait and delay stuff 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm just going to plod on.. log on ovia and just enjoy time with the hubby in between seeing family, working and preparing for Xmas.. I think we will smash it.. having Christmas to keep us side tracked might really help!

We shall have to keep in touch 🥰

Blondeandbroody · 29/11/2019 23:45

That’s good advice I’m trying really hard because I have a feeling that first AF after being off the pill for a full cycle will crush me. So I could do with trying not to get so hopeful to protect myself from the disappointment I’ll feel if I get my hopes way up, but then my mind starts to think wouldn’t it be nice for it to happen the first cycle, how nice would it be to give the positive rest as a Christmas “gift” to my OH! Haha I’m my own worst enemy, I obsess over things that I’m excited or worried about and I’m both! Excited for the journey and worried it’s gonna take forever!

I have PMed you as well ❤️

@Elmlee that was meant for you haha still not got the hang of this yet!!!

OP posts:
Blondeandbroody · 30/11/2019 11:27

I’ve just bought some folic acid and some pregnancy multivitamins i think I’ll take just folic acid for now and save the multivitamins for when I get a BFP.

Is there anything else I should take?

OP posts:
Elmlee · 01/12/2019 10:05

@Blondeandbroody

I've replied to your inbox ❤️😊

I've got folic and vitamin D combo. It's just from boots.

I'm not taking anything more like you said until I know I need it.

Awww that's would be cute but remember we've left it quite late for Christmas.

Likelihood is you could get pregnant now and you wouldn't 100% know anyway as it's only 24 days away! That's what my MOT said?
