Coming off the pill side effects

Hi all

I came of the pill (cerazette) 3 weeks ago today and still no sign of AF. I was just wondering how long it took for people to get back into some form of normality and what sort of side effects they experienced? For the last couple of weeks I've had massively sore boobs but that's about it.

We are going to be TTC from October and worried that because I've been on the pill for the last 12 years or so (at least 9 years on Cerazette with no period at all). I am overweight and was wondering if anyone else had experienced issues getting AF back and what you did?

I came off Zelleta mini pill on 5th August and haven't had any bleeding yet, not even a withdrawal bleed. I don't feel as hungry as I did when I was on the pill and I've had quite a few headaches since stopping it.

TtcanotherG · 28/08/2019 15:00

I've finished the pill 1st Aug had withdrawal bleed. I've long cycles. 34days so I just been testing with ov sticks. I've got positive cd21 I think it was.. so if dont catch this month af will be here weeks. So 5weeks this coming off pill. Just takes time to get back now track after pill.

Hayley94 · 28/08/2019 15:39

Following thread as I have just came off pill few days ago. Started tracking ovulation straight away to see what was what but thinking I'm wasting my time this early on x

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 15:50

Hi @Crazymummyto3

I've not had a withdrawal bleed either - there is so much conflicting info so good to know we're in the same boat.

@TtcanotherG

Did you wait for your withdrawal bleed before using OV sticks? Not sure it is worth it yet with not having a bleed at all??

I came off the pill in June and my skin was really bad for the first couple of months and only calming down now. My periods are also a lot heavier and longer.

Margotsmom · 28/08/2019 16:03

It took me about 6 weeks to get my period back after coming off cerazette and then straight back into my 29 day cycle. But I was getting worried about week three when it still wasn’t there and I thought I’d really messed up my body by being on it so long, but alas everything ended up fine and no side effects.

TtcanotherG · 28/08/2019 16:03

@MrsERH yea I started after my withdrawal bleed . I finished a clean full pack off my pill and knew withdrawal would come few days later. I then just started ov sticks around cd 10 just to keep checking. I was getting no Lh line at all. When I tested Sunday I did get one so I tested that eve it was getting dark. Tested monday morning and afternoon when I got my peak. Just keep testing. I hope u get some signs soon. I really noticed my CM changes aswell. It was creamy few days before Sunday and then changed to raw egg white.

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 16:19

Thanks so much @Margotsmom - really good to know that and not to panic.

Never thought I'd be wishing for AF!

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 16:22

@TtcanotherG Ah I didn't get a withdrawal with cerazette at all for 9 years as it's a mini pill. Good to know when to start testing once my cycle (hopefully) comes back!

Who'd have thought I'd be wishing for AF!

Hayley94 · 28/08/2019 16:30

@MrsERH I'm on desogetrel which is s mini pill so will I not get a withdrawal bleed? I was under the assumption we had one regardless of which pill it was? X

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 16:43

@Hayley94 No idea! I know some pills you get a withdrawal bleed every month when you take the week break between packets. With mine it was back to back. I've heard some people say they get a withdrawal bleed that they think is their first AF but then end up only being a day or so.

I guess we'll see when we get anything?!

Hayley94 · 28/08/2019 16:58

Mine was a back to back pill. I'm such an inpatient person 😂

PinkShake · 28/08/2019 17:09

I'm in a similar position so will be keeping tabs on this!

I was on the mini pill and I think I must have missed a few and had a breakthrough/ withdrawal bleed around 6th Aug... I took my last pill on the 8th, we DTD on the 10th and I've had no bleeding since.

I randomly threw up at work last week before lunch and have been feeling very bloated and tired. Also (sorry tmi) I've had a lot of thick white cm the last 4 days... I can feel it and keep thinking it's AF, but no!

Not sure if I could have conceived so quickly and when I should consider doing a test as I haven't had a real period/ have no idea where my cycle is at?! Or if this is just hormonal changes affecting me...

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 17:12

@PinkShake no idea when to test but couldn't harm doing one now I suppose? I considered doing one when by boobs got so sore I coudn't lie on my front and good feel them in my bra but OH reminded me we had been super careful whilst DTD so was probably just a hormone change

Keep us updated though!

I came off cerazette end of june had withdrawal bleed a few days later, got my first period 23rd July and then got my BFP monday🤗

In my experience my body went back to normal loads quicker than when i was on loestrin pill as it took 4 months for BFP when i came off that x

user1906 · 28/08/2019 17:20

Must add that loestrin is a 21 day pill with 7 day break inbetween!!

PinkShake · 28/08/2019 17:21

@MrsERH thanks, you're right! Just checked the NHS and it says to wait at least 21 days since you DTD so I may try and hold out until Saturday...
Hope your cycle goes back to normal quickly for you!x

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 18:38

@user1906 oh wow that's great - congratulations!

Not starting TTC until our honeymoon in October (I'd happily start now but OH is sensible and getting morning sickness on a very long flight wouldn't be pleasant!!) so hope everything is in sync then!!

Hi @MrsERH, I came off cerazette in July last year after being on it for 10 years and hadn’t had a period at all in that time. I didn’t have a period until end of August and it was long & heavy and then didn’t have anything until the end of November and again it was long and heavy. I had another long & heavy period in March and since then i’ve had 2 cycles that were 44 days and my periods are so much better. I don’t want to scare/worry you because everyone is different but that was my experience!

I’m also overweight but I’ve been doing Slimming World since March and that’s when my cycles have gotten better. Some may say at this point I should go to the docs (I’ve read a lot about PCOS) but I’m giving myself a bit longer to see if there is a pattern forming with my cycles! It’s been a long year but I’m getting there haha!

I hope you don’t have to wait as long as I have. If I had known I would have such issues I wouldn’t have started taking it. They never talk to you about this stuff when giving it to people.

TTC1993 · 28/08/2019 19:28

Hey.. i came off that pill after 10 years and fell pregnant before I even had a first period, unfortunately pregnancy ended in MMC at 12 week scan , TTC just now first cycle 🤞🏽

Good luck with baby making ❤️

MrsERH · 28/08/2019 20:57

Hi @xBaxterx

Thanks so much for you honesty. Totally appreciate everyone is different but it's great to hear other experiences as makes me panic less (especially as you came off it exactly a year before me it sounds like!). I'd just like some sort of sign that there are still eggs in there Grin Just taking each day as it comes for now!

@TTC1993 So sorry to hear about your MMC. Good luck with this cycle

Took me 80 days before I had my first AF.

QueenOfPain · 28/08/2019 20:59

If I miss as few as three days of that pill it triggers a really heavy painful withdrawal bleed with big clots and all sorts and the bleeding lasts way longer than my usual 3 day long periods.

AllTheGlitter · 28/08/2019 21:00

But to make you feel better I had blood tests and the GP said my levels were fine. I’ve been regular (albeit 34 day cycles) ever since :)
