The Hut of Gl/Doom Part V- for the unapologetically despondent

The new hut. Ta-da!

This one is a snug little basement World War 2 type nightclub, with dim lighting, snug velvet sofas, red walls and certainly no politically correct smoking bans. Occasionally certain selected men may be admitted at our convenience.

Sit down, make yourselves at home, and never, ever apologise for feeling like shit. That's about it.

Hi All

Herby, don't give up - youre not beaten yet.

Hi Popsy - glad the boarding was good ! We have booked today for skiing (secretly sniffs with distain at the snowboarders herewith... ) so we're off in March. Had a bit of a weep over DH last night as he was umming and aahing about the cost and I said 'Look we have to do this so we are doing something we wouldn't have been able to do if we'd had dc2 last year like we should have done'.

Hi everyone else - how's it going.

DH has certainly pulled his socks up - he did 'his' test last week and even rung for the results today . He is fine, as I knew he would be despite everyone else blaming it on his working lifestlye. So, he said we should go to the doctors to get referred when I had assumed I would go on my own cos getting DH to take time off work akin to asking him to eat worms. Then he suggested we go tomorrow AND that he'd rung our private insurance to check we weren't covered privately.

I had to picked up off the floor.

ladylush · 10/01/2008 19:23

That's great wheely - glad your dh is with you on this

wheelybug · 10/01/2008 19:30

thanks LL - me too. I knew he was in spirit really but he just dragged his heels somewhat over his part ! I think he suddenly feels empowered .

ladylush · 10/01/2008 20:11

Their bits seem so much less complicated than ours - a bit like their existence imo

perkypopsy · 11/01/2008 09:19

Morning ladies, Wheely - fab that your DH is being so proactive - they do get a bit wobbly when the spotlight is on their man bits don't they? DH doing his bit Monday morning so no BD over the weekend...is a bloody relief to be told not to do it ha ha

ladylush has been over a year now so doc agreed to refer me - felt a bit weird about it to be honest cos thought he'd say don't be daft

haven't looked into fertility clinics yet but will do as soon as get this first week back over with - have been so busy feels like not been on holiday at all - jet lag not helping of course. How are you ronny? Good Christmas - how are the girls?

Herby hon - just met up with old pal who is now 6 months PG after 2 MC and 6 years of trying and other friend had MCs for 3 years (basically was either PG or having an MC entire time - sounds exhausting) and now has 2 kids so there is hope (I know you can't believe it will be you til it happens but I really know so many more people that have managed it eventually than have never managed it at all (in fact I only know 1 person like that and she's still of the right age IYSWIM) - anyhoo big hugs winging their way to you (I am now thinking of kittens too)

wheelybug · 11/01/2008 11:07

LOL Ladylush.

Well, we got to the docs this morning and he thankfully agreed 18 months was long enough - although it has to go to their referal committee (beauracracy gone mad ?) but he didn't think it would be an issue. A 2-3 month wait which I think is ok although we're going to discuss going privately.

So a waiting game here - we're not going to be ttc at least this cycle so I'm not pg (ha ha) if we go skiing and will see about the month before skiing as I think AF would be due when we're away so I might risk it. Am going to try and get fit and lose weight in the meantime.

My mum has just been diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. Just been on the coeliac.co.uk website for her and apparenty as a family member I have a 1 in 10 chance of having it....and guess what one of the symptoms is???

Recurrent mc.

Had 3rd one just before xmas.

Am distraught.....

becaroo · 11/01/2008 16:58

..oh, and low birth weight babies.

My ds was low birth weight and he had lots of problems because of it...oh, jesus....

Becaroo - I was tested for Coeliac disease as a friend pointed me in the direction as dd was a low birth weight baby, m/c, trouble to conceive this time. I got the all clear though.

How low was your ds's weight out of interest ?

Skreksmissus - sorry to hear you're feeling low about work .

FlossieF · 11/01/2008 18:50

Becaroo - my mum and aunt both have Coeliac disease, so I had a test to see if I might have it. The test came back negative, fortunately, but I did some reading about it, and as far as I could establish 6 months or so of a gluten free diet pretty much reverses the symptoms and any effects on fertility / pregnancy. A gluten-free diet is no fun, I grant you, and I would have been gutted if I'd tested positive, but it was reassuring to know that it is possible to deal with.

You probably don't have it if you haven't been experiencing any symptoms (lack of energy, anaemia, digestive problems), but it is obviously best to be tested so you could start the diet without further delay in the unlikely event that you need to.

Being hassled by the security guy to leave the building so best go. Shrekmissus & everyone else who is feeling low, hope you manage to have some fun / positive thoughts this weekend.

ladylush · 11/01/2008 19:09

Wheely, glad your gp has referred you. One less struggle to deal with.

Shreksmissus - kind of know how you feel. The only thing getting me through my job some days is the thought/hope that I will be pg one day soon and will have 6 months break from it. Like you, pregnancy isn't a reason to get away from work but wanting a baby so much gets in the way of work and impacts on your focus.

Becaroo, when are you going to get tested? Hope it's negative, but if not at least a gluten free diet should sort it out. My friend had coeliac disease and is a nightmare to go for a meal with (but a totally lovely person!)

Have come to the conclusion that recurrent m/c makes for hypochondria. In the pursuit of a cause, I appear to be trying to mix and match symptoms. Not satisfied with Hypothyroidism I am now thinking ooh, what if I have that too! That's the trouble - so many conditions have similar symptoms eg lethargy, digestive problems etc.

becaroo · 12/01/2008 10:08

Hello all....sorry I logged off last night as I was so upset and then spent a sleepless night.

Wheely, my ds was born at term weighing 4lbs 15oz but went own to 4 lbs 8oz.

Sent my dh to Boots last night for a home coeliac test kit, and I tested negative. Am relieved, but now I am thinking.."are these tess as reliable as a docs test? CAn you test neg and still have it???" God, I am really tunring into the worst kind of hypochondriac and I loathe myself for it.

Thanks for listening x

ladylush · 12/01/2008 10:47

Becaroo, I think it is probably just as accurate. Boots have a good name and I doubt they would put their name to a product that doesn't give reliable results. Have you had your thyroid tested? Did you breast feed? I had terrible problems breast feeding ds but persisted due to guilt. I was feeding him hourly and he would then feed for an hour at a time. If I hadn't, he probably would've lost weight as he was at the top of the 90th percentile for height and only the 50th for weight. I have since found out that underactive thyroid can cause problems breast feeding as it affects milk production (thyroid affects Prolactin levels). However, I don't know if I had the condition then.

perkypopsy · 12/01/2008 18:38

Hi shreksmissus had to write and say i know exactly how you feel. I have been struggling with work ever since the MC. That is a year of going in and just pretending everythingokay - with the deep down feeling that I would just like to walk out the door and not look back til have a healthy baby and have sorted that side of my life out. I also battle with feeling that work stress isn't helping TTC but then if i as at home with no job I'd just be on here all day obsessing about being PG.
I sometimes wonder why has taken it out of me - I haven't been "me" since it happened - the smallest things knock me for six and I still want everyojne to know how bad i am still feeling but they seem to think all okay as so much time gone by - when I talk to friends and family i come away p*ssed off with them as they aren't sympathetic enough - of course they have their own worries but I can't believe they too arenot fretting about me every hour of every day
I wish I could wave a magic wand and make this go away - erase this shitty year and get back to normal but that isn't going to happen grrrrrrrr

AnnieMac I also totally get the celeb thing - I don't know why but it bugs me more than seeing a PG woman on the street - JLo, nicole (x 2), xtina () - i even saw soething about Jen when was in the US and had to stop myself from buying all the shitty mags to read and torture myself with...i am sure many of them (spesh JLo and Nicole K) have had their probs with TTC and MC but I stll want to throttle them - maybe is the writing about it - the journalists rubbing it in ha ha - am totally deranged
best news is got a letter from the hozzy with appt to see specialist on 12/02 - only 4 weeks away yeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaa - i just hope he gives me drugs and doesn't want to inject my tubes with dye like my friend had cos that sounds foul
DH boke wrist on hols - went to ER yesterday (2 week after doing it) and is now in plaster - have been teasing him about sample and wanking hand but he is not feelingvery humerous - apparently his whole manhood is on the line arghhhhhhhh and howwwl howl - whydo we have to be the strong silent ones???
anyhoo off to have a bath and get over raging hangover - managed toget pissed and be a foul grumpy witch last night - need to apologise to all friens but too embarrassed to do so am an evil person!!!

perkypopsy · 12/01/2008 18:40

p.s. becaroo small silver lining to having coeliacs would be getting super thin ....(one can but hope )

wheelybug · 12/01/2008 18:58

Bec - I had a blood test at the docs to check for coeliac disease, so it might be worth asking just to put your mind at rest.

DD was 4 lbs 9 oz at sort of term (37+4). She didn't lose weight but that was mainly because we failed to breast feed so she was mainly ff apart from 7 weeks mixed.

Good news POps on the appointment - I too am dreading the dye injectiing thing and laproscopy.... arrrghhhh....

becaroo · 12/01/2008 19:24

I think I will Wheely....just in case x

Hello ladies.

Sorry I have been a bit quiet over the last couple of days but I got a bfp over the weekend

First cycle after the mc so am very surprised (but delighted/nervous/scared etc)

Thank you all so much for your support during the awful time I had pre-xmas. It is so very much appreciated.

I know how lovely/upsetting/envious etc hearing about others bfp's can make you when TTC so I'm off now as I don't want to upset anyone!....hoping to see you all on the ante-natal boards soon xx

ladylush · 13/01/2008 21:46

Congrats becaroo

perkypopsy · 14/01/2008 11:47

Hi ladies, had to come and see you all - SM I am in the other corner with a pint of absinthe and a packet of B&H. What a crap weekend. Feel so totally down - don't really know why - maybe is the PG anniversary - and 2 years since my dad died
I didn't sleep a wink last night and woke up this morning feeling totally distraught and cried at thought of coming to work. Have called the docs to make an appointment cos think i might need some help - am scared am a real nutcase now cos was signed off work 2 years ago with Dad for 3 weeks and want to get signed off again but think will lose my job (and self respect etc etc)
Always said that depression is just a chemical thing and don't know why people are afraid of taking drugs but feel like if i admit i need them then i have failed in some way... Couldn't tell DH - his test was this morning - I left him wondering what the hell was going on (i was crying as I walked out the door). Got a call saying he couldn't do the test - don't want to go into detail here but sounds like some witch of a receptionist put him through hell
Had students on my back this morning and was as much as I could do not to tell them to f*ck right off and come back when they actually had a problem!
sorry will sod off now and try to cheer up
p.s. well done Becaroo

Oh Pops I am holding you close to my not very ample bosom, stroking your hair.
