TTC after Cerazette/Cerelle

Looking for some advice/someone to talk to/somewhere to write down my feelings!

I’m 26 and hubby and I have decided we want to try for our first baby.

I’ve been on Cerazette/Cerelle for the last 18 months and in this time I’ve had no bleeding. Before this, I was on Microgynon for 9 years and would have monthly withdrawal bleeds.

So all in all I haven’t really had a ‘proper’ period for 10 years, since I was 16!! At this age my periods were regular.

I came off Cerazette 3 weeks ago and so far have had no bleeding at all... not even any spotting and I’ve been checking for ovulation every couple of days with ovulation sticks and these have all been negative.

I desperately want to be in a position where we can start trying to conceive and was looking for comments from anyone who has been or is in a similar situation, especially those of you who have been on Cerazette and had no bleeding on this.

I was on cerazette for around 8 years and didnt have a period at all in that time. I came off it in January this year and it took 5 weeks exactly for me to have a withdrawal bleed/period since then ive been around 32-34 day cycles.

VictoriaG315 · 06/07/2019 21:49

Thank you for replying mrsc1987. Most of my friends have just been on Microgynon so I haven’t really had anyone to talk to about this. It’s nice to hear that there is some hope of my periods returning! Thanks again for taking the time to reply Smile

I was similar to you- microgynon followed by progesterone pill. Didn't bleed at all on the mini pill. After stopping it took 8 weeks to get my first period. Second cycle was 44 days long. Now on to cycle 3 and hoping this will be shorter still. Some people get pregnant straight away, others have a while to wait for regular cycles. You might just have to be patient- hard when you want to get on with ttc! Good luck!

Ive just come off cerelle too its been 2 weeks on Monday had slight bleeding yesterday. Last time I came off it after28 days I had a big break through bleed and then like clockwork 28 -30 days regular periods. I am a lot older than you too. I am hoping it happens like that again.
I am getting a lot of headaches though which is annoying.

VictoriaG315 · 06/07/2019 22:07

Thanks for sharing your experience Skyla01 - it’s useful to hear other women’s experiences. It is frustrating waiting but is reassuring to be told it’s all normal. I am concerned that I was on the pill for 10 years in total but was also assured by my doctor that it doesn’t have any long-term consequences, just takes a while to get back to normal!

Thanks wannabemum38. It’s lovely to feel supported by other women ;) Fingers crossed that things return to regular pretty quickly for you again this time. Why do us women do this to ourselves!?!

Most people conceive within a year of coming off the pill. It took me 9 months with my eldest. I had been on the combined pill for about 11 years at that point.

When I had my youngest, I fell pregnant within the first month of trying. But I had stopped taking the mini pill about six months before then. So my cycle had been able to get back to normal.

It will probably take a few weeks for your body to adjust. I probably had about a month between finishing the pill and my first period. One thing I always remember was having morning sickness type feelings just before my very first period after coming off the pill for the first time. Apparently it's common to have a hormone surge, which is what causes the nausea. Just be prepared for that.

VictoriaG315 · 06/07/2019 22:21

Thanks for the heads up!

I didn't have any bleeding on Cerazette. I stopped and it took 4 weeks to have a bleed. I wasn't checking for ovulation so don't know if I did that month. I ovulated after the bleed 16 days into my cycle and AF arrived around CD30. Ovulated the second month around CD15 and an now 9.5 weeks pregnant!

VictoriaG315 · 06/07/2019 22:29

Congratulations! That’s wonderful news Smile and makes me hopeful too!

When I had DS I came off the pill after 12-13 years of taking it. Had had a few different types and was on cerazette for several years before TTC. Didn’t have a bleed at all before I found out I was pregnant. Pregnancy was dated from the day after I had taken my last pill.

Don’t want to get your hopes up because I know I was extremely lucky but if you don’t get anything in the next couple of weeks you might want to take a pregnancy test too just in case x

qj17 · 07/07/2019 08:14

I was on cerezette for about 5 years. Came off end of aug and got pregnant in October. Currently on the ward being induced as we speak!

VictoriaG315 · 07/07/2019 08:14

I haven’t wanted to take a pregnancy test because as you say, don’t want to get my hopes up but it is nice to hear some positive stories about coming off the pill and TTC.

Victoria I’d say it’s still a bit early for you to test yet, but OPKs are not always reliable, or so I’ve heard and so don’t assume you haven’t ovulated if you never get a positive.

The only reason I tested was because it was around Christmas time and there was lots of alcohol being consumed so I tested before a night out just to be on the safe side.

CrazyFooLady · 07/07/2019 08:59

Hiya! I stopped taking cerezette 4 weeks ago today. I've had no withdrawal bleed or period but I have had a very faint line on a first response test.
To be honest, the only reason I did the test was because I had really sore boobs and nausea, I still don't believe it as in my mind it's too soon and surely it doesn't happen that quick lol.
All my IC tests still show negative, I think I would believe it more if they were positive if that makes sense....... anyway this is a pic of the test I did on weds x

I can see the faint line but I know what you mean about not wanting to believe it yet. I’m really trying to not get my hopes up either. Perhaps test again in a few days?

@VictoriaG315 yeah I'm trying to hold out for next weds/Thursday. It's hard tho coz I have the crazy symptoms but then think it's all in my head.
I said that to my partner last night until he knocked my boob and the pain sent me thru the roof lol x

Rosieposy89 · 07/07/2019 10:29

I was on cerazette for two years - no periods in that time. Came off in August 2018 took 4 weeks to get a withdrawal bleed and then fell back into 26-28 day cycles after that. It's normal though for it to take a year to get back to normal so don't worry.

Moonstone12 · 20/07/2019 11:25

Hi I'm new here and just after some reassurance from people in the same boat.

I stopped cerelle over 3 weeks ago now (longest 3 weeks of my life!) and had every symptom under the sun but no sign of bleeding. Normally if I forgot a pill I'd bleed within a day or 2. But now I've totally stopped I have had nothing.

I'm already a mum of 3 and I have been incredibly lucky to fall pregnant very quickly. But I'm much older now (38) and it's been 8 years since my last pregnancy.

I think I've just got myself all wound up because of age etc

Anyway it would be great to talk to people in the same situation. We haven't told anyone we are ttc as if it doesn't happen we don't want people to know. And it's so difficult to have no one to talk to about it.

Xx

wannabemum38 · 20/07/2019 13:18

I'm same age as you. Stopped pill 4 weeks ago almost also no sign of bleeding at all. Normally 3 weeks to day of missing even a couple of pills I have a full on bleed for couple of days. But I'm guessing it's too soon and would be a miracle if it happened this quick X

VictoriaG315 · 22/07/2019 21:52

Hi ladies.

I originally started this thread when I’d come off cerazette/cerelle 3 weeks earlier and I had had no bleeding, not even spotting, since coming off.

I’m currently on my period (yay....!)

In the end, it took 4 weeks to ovulate after stopping the pill (I used ovulation tests) and another 2 weeks to have a period. So all in all, I got a period 6 weeks after stopping.

Whether I now stay regular is this the next challenge....!

Moonstone12 · 22/07/2019 22:59

I'm glad lots of people have had trouble getting back to normal since coming off cerelle and it's not just me (if that makes sense)
Fingers crossed we all settle into a routine soon!

Still no sign here and BFN when I test so I assume my body is still trying to work out what's going on.

Turns out patience isn't my strong point 😂😂

VictoriaG315 · 23/07/2019 06:55

Patience clearly not my strong point either!

It is good to know that it isn’t just yourself like you say. It’s lovely to know that there’s support out there from others going through a similar thing.

I'm off it for 2 weeks with the expectation I'd be really chilled out and be "whatever happens, happens" - as if! I've been examing everything my body is doing. It's really uplifting to hear stories of pp getting pregnant soon on the thread though.
