TTC after Cerazette/Cerelle

Looking for some advice/someone to talk to/somewhere to write down my feelings!

I’m 26 and hubby and I have decided we want to try for our first baby.

I’ve been on Cerazette/Cerelle for the last 18 months and in this time I’ve had no bleeding. Before this, I was on Microgynon for 9 years and would have monthly withdrawal bleeds.

So all in all I haven’t really had a ‘proper’ period for 10 years, since I was 16!! At this age my periods were regular.

I came off Cerazette 3 weeks ago and so far have had no bleeding at all... not even any spotting and I’ve been checking for ovulation every couple of days with ovulation sticks and these have all been negative.

I desperately want to be in a position where we can start trying to conceive and was looking for comments from anyone who has been or is in a similar situation, especially those of you who have been on Cerazette and had no bleeding on this.

Still no sign for me been 4 weeks and 3 days since came off pill. Very sore boobs and had bad cramps Monday so presumably AF is on its way. Might test at weekend.

MrsW9 · 25/07/2019 06:19

I came off at the start of June, absolutely nothing for 25 days, then next cycle was 24 days. I also panicked at about three weeks thinking something was supposed to happen sooner, so wanted to share the experience. I think people react quite differently to coming off cerazette. Now hoping these cycles lengthen a bit...

Moonstone12 · 25/07/2019 08:34

It's been 4 weeks exactly today and apart from numerous symptoms ranging from extreme tiredness to cramping, sore boobs and bloating I've still no AF and no BFP.

I too thought I'd be chilled out about everything but I'm not. I think I'd just like AF to turn up so I know my body still works lol.

flossy12 · 25/07/2019 12:05

Hey OP I was on cerazette for around 18 months too, before that had the coil, countless different tablets all in all been on contraception for 10 years too!

I came off my pill on the 28th of April, took me 3 days to have my withdrawal bleed, however don't think I've actually been ovulating until this month as been 3 cycles and no luck for me 👎🏻

Apparently it can take like 6 months for everything to get out of your system 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi, it’s nice to find a recent thread with people sharing a similar experience. I fell pregnant with my daughter in 2016 whilst on cerazette. Put it down to having an IBS flare up.

I’ve been on cerazette again for around 2 years until the 12th of this month. Had what I’m guessing was a withdrawal bleed on the 17th for a couple of days. Not really what I’d call a bleed, just the brown “dregs” if you get what I mean. I’ve had on and off lower stomach cramps and headaches since and get dizzy just about every time I stand up. Probably like most of us I’m googling all symptoms and which relate to pill withdrawal, implantation and pregnancy symptoms Hmm. It’s hard not knowing and having no control over what your body is doing and when you may ovulate for get AF. Fingers crossed we all get a BFP very soon and be blessed with patience, tonnes and tonnes of patience Grin I’ve already done a HPT and it’s only 2 weeks tomorrow since I stopped! Need to sit on my hands for at least another week!

I was on cerazette for a number of years and came off it sometime in Feb I had a normal period 3rd week into March and fell pregnant roughly two weeks later (which ended with MMC) my doctor was shocked I got pregnant so quickly from coming off the pill. I found it give me irregular periods sometimes two in a month

HollyMariaa · 03/08/2019 14:40

Hi ladies,

I was on cerazette/cerelle for about 12 years and came off late May/early June as we are TTC number 1. I was panicking as I had no withdrawal bleed, no positive OPK or BFP results and no period. 8 weeks later (to the day) AF returned, I don't think I've ever been so excited to see blood! So OP I know how you felt.

How long after your first AF arriving did you start ovulating, is it possible to not ovulate the first few months, or will it just be irregular?

Myrtletheturtle01 · 06/08/2019 09:10

AF finally turned up 25 days after stopping Cerazette! So glad my cycle seems to be ok, haven’t had a period in a couple of years so was worried. Time to start tracking ovulation, hopefully that’s ok too. No telling after this pill, some ovulate immediately, some not for a few months. Good luck to all!

xBaxterx · 06/08/2019 21:16

Hi ladies,

I was on cerazette/cerelle for 10 years and didn’t have a period at all in that time! I came off last July to get back to normal before TTC and I’m still not there! It took me around a month to get a period and I’ve been irregular ever since. I’m hoping that things are starting to settle down 🤞 x

HollyMariaa · 06/08/2019 22:22

Baxter have you ovulated in the time you've had irregular periods, have you been tracking it at all? Nice to hear from people who were on cerelle as long as I've been!

xBaxterx · 07/08/2019 06:31

I'll be honest I have no idea! I haven't been tracking anything.. (just been waiting each month for AF to turn up!) AF is here now so my last cycle has been the shortest since I've come off the pill. I've started to use Flo to start tracking and now going to keep a closer eye. Just waiting to see how long AF is here for this time (as the length has also varied) and go from there.

I have no clue about any of this kind of thing as I've spent so long not having to think about it! Any help from you ladies is much appreciated Smile

HollyMariaa · 07/08/2019 11:47

I've been using the ovulation strips you can buy online (about £8 for 50!) to track ovulation, but as I've only just had AF I haven't had any positive results. Fingers crossed this cycle I'll have a positive OPK, it's quite addictive!

VictoriaG315 · 10/08/2019 15:15

Thank you ladies for all sharing your experiences.

I have my fingers crossed that you all get what you want.

It took my nearly 6 weeks in the end to have my first light period after coming off cerazette. It’s now been 3 weeks after that and I’m wondering when I will bleed again... it’s hard to know when to do the deed as we have no idea when I’ll ovulate.

Is there anyone on here who can share how long it took them to get their 2nd, 3rd, 4th periods? How long until they settled into a pattern?

I was on cerelle for 9 years, unfortunately my periods were all over the place when I stopped to TTC - the first one took three months to arrive, and from then on they were anything from 38 to 60 days apart Sad no idea whether the pill contributed or whether it was just masking underlying problems. From what I understand if your cycles haven't settled down 6-9 months after stopping its worth seeing your GP, though from what I've read previously the majority of people seem to settle into a regular cycle well before then. Good luck to all.... Xx

Thanks for sharing @Avocuddles

Hi hope it’s ok to join, I was on cerazette for 10 years without a bleed. Had last pill on 14th July, 4weeks today and still no bleed, can’t help but get stressed.

Moonstone12 · 11/08/2019 20:53

@Sami3969 I understand your frustration. I stopped the pill almost 7 weeks ago and still no period. :(

yellowpurple85 · 11/08/2019 21:27

I felt really good when I first come off, I was sleeping better, my mood was great, lost weight in the first three weeks overall I felt so much better, now I feel like crap cold symptoms, pain in my right side and my heart fells like it's ready to burst out of my chest. How did everyone else feel?

yellowpurple85 · 11/08/2019 21:27

Sorry changed my name from sami3969

VictoriaG315 · 12/08/2019 05:26

@yellowpurple85 my skin has definitely improved but that took about 2 months, at first I actually got quite spotty. I also think I’ve lost a little bit of weight. My sex drive has increased but that could also be because I want to conceive... I also noticed a pain in my side around 4 weeks after coming off cerazette... turns out that was ovulation as I check with an ovulation test which was positive and I bled 11 days later x

OP posts:
flossy12 · 12/08/2019 11:24

@yellowpurple85 @VictoriaG315 been off mine since 28th April, bled 2 days later and have felt great since coming off it! Like oh said @VictoriaG315 my sex drive has increased too! Spots are just starting to calm down, even though I get some due to PMS anyway, I went through the stage of having a cold for about 3 weeks but that's settled down now too, haha periods are no way as heavy as they were before I started the pill or even through me taking it which is a godsend 👏🏼

Makingawish · 12/08/2019 19:42

I was on cerazette for 4.5 years and stopped end of Feb. Took about 5 weeks to get my breakthrough bleed which then just fell into my regular 28 day cycle for the next 5 months and I'm now 4 weeks pregnant. I didn't get periods as heavy as they were prior to taking it so I was worried I wasn't ovulating but took some OPK's and I was 😊
